CHAPTER 180
Ace and Selena sat across from each other on the waiting chair. The chairs were usually used by people waiting for their friends or relatives to buy clothes at Selena's shop. This wasn't the first time Ace had come. He had visited this shop before and watched her from afar, but Selena hadn't noticed.
From a distance, Ace could tell right away that Selena was having economic troubles. Her business was not doing well and Ace knew that her situation was getting worse every day.
Selena, who had been scared from the start, could only crumple the edge of her short skirt as she said, "What do you really want, Ace?"
"I want to know Amanda's weakness."
Ace's words were very to the point, she had indeed come to defeat everyone. His resolve was already made up. And her skills had improved a lot compared to Ace back in school.
Selena pursed her lips hesitantly, then shook her head trying to refuse. "I don't know."
"You really don't know, or don't want to tell, hm?"
Selena swallowed again. She lowered her head, then bit her lip fearfully.
"Ah, so you really don't want to talk huh?" Ace moved his face forward, trying to bring his face closer to Selena who was already sweating in front of him. "Well, I have to take a stand to speed this up."
Selena didn't dare look at what was in front of her, because as soon as she looked up, lifting her face, she heard the sound of a gun ready to be fired at her head. Ace aimed the tip of the gun, and pressed it against Selena's head. Making Selena glare in shock that Ace wasn't messing with his words.
Their eyes met, and Selena could see how Ace wore a cold face that she hadn't seen in a long time. Selena swallowed, glancing at the tip of the gun that was now ready to blow her head off in just one motion.
"I don't know anything, Ace," Selena squeaked nervously.
The girl's face was already covered in sweat, she just wanted to live. But Ace seemed serious about his words.
"If you don't know her weaknesses, let me find out where she gets money from."
"G-get money?"
Ace nodded slowly, "Uh-huh. He's been hiding all this time. So, how did he become so rich while in hiding? He's not a wanted person, why is she hiding? What is she hiding?"
"About that... I can't explain, Ace," Selena said.
But Ace pushed the tip of the gun in his hand deeper, making Selena hold her breath for a few seconds. Ace lifted her face again, then raised one eyebrow. "Where did all Amanda's money come from? I'll count to three before this gun takes out your brain."
It looked like Selena really had no other choice but to answer Ace's question. She couldn't die now. She still wanted to have a decent life.
"Amanda... sells cocaine on black sites, and... she also sells methamphetamine to people in the city."
One of Ace's eyebrows shot up. "How? She has a supplier?"
"She went to a guy called The Fixer. Someone who hides underground, but has a bigger network than I know." Selena tried to explain, although now and then, she glanced at the gun in front of her head. While trying to regulate her irregular breathing, Selena continued, "Amanda doesn't leave her base camp, she pays people to be couriers. That's what I did with Amanda, too. She's already paid my bill."
"The Fixer you say?"
"Yes, but you won't be able to meet him. I've never met him in person, he uses hired people to deliver drugs, and I'll give them to Amanda."
Ace was intrigued by Selena's story. He lowered the gun, and crossed his arms over his chest. "So, Amanda will get the money after selling the drugs?"
The air in Selena's small shop seemed to thicken as Ace processed the shocking revelation about Amanda's forbidden activities. He leaned back, folding his arms as he pondered the gravity of the situation. Selena, who now looked relieved that the gun was no longer pointed at her, watched Ace carefully.
"So, Amanda has been running a drug empire," Ace mused, more to himself than to Selena. "And this Fixer character is the mastermind behind the scenes."
Selena nodded, her eyes still wide with fear. "Yes, Ace. Amanda may not look like it, but she's heavily involved in illegal activities. The Fixer is the key to her operations."
Ace's mind was filled with possibilities. This unexpected thing had the potential to be a gripping plot. The elusive Fixer, a mastermind who organized drug networks, added a layer of complexity to Ace's mission.
"Selena," Ace began, his tone serious, "I need you to help me get The Fixer."
Selena looked surprised by Ace's request. She was almost speechless when she heard something as impossible as that.
Selena hesitated, torn between fear for her life and her newfound determination. "Ace, if I help you, Amanda will kill me. The Fixer network is dangerous. I heard they have many networks, they have many hitmen. Amanda is trapped, and so am I. I can't betray them all."
"So, what should I do if I want to meet The Fixer?"
Selena seemed to deliberate over what to say, until she finally looked at Ace and said, "You should do business with him. He... likes money."
Ace's eyes narrowed as he absorbed Selena's words. The opportunity to uncover the mysterious Troubleshooter and dismantle Amanda's forbidden kingdom seemed too attractive to pass up. He weighed the risks against the potential rewards, his mind already planning his next move.
"Business, huh?" Ace pondered, a wry smile on his lips. "Looks like I'll have to play by their rules to catch this troubleshooter. Selena, if we're going to do this, I need all the details you know about The Fixer and how he operates."
Selena, who now realized how important her involvement was, hesitated before finally nodding. "I don't know much, Ace, but I'll share what I can. The Fixer rarely meets with anyone directly. Transactions are arranged through intermediaries, and they use encrypted channels. It's an intricate network designed to keep them hidden."
Ace leaned forward, his intensity unwavering. "We have to find a way to break through that network. Any weakness, any weakness that can give us an edge. And you, Selena, will be our guide."
CHAPTER 181Noel put his foot on the gas pedal after Nicholas finished buckling the seat belt around his chest. Meanwhile, Hendrick and Peter drove home in the same car. They both decided to leave after finishing their investigation at Jason's house.Jason Abraham was an American-Arab pawn shop owner who was supposed to help Nicholas find Ace's whereabouts."We have all the evidence, it's premeditated murder and... unfortunately, it's also a serial killer."Nicholas, who was sitting looking at the window, turned his head quickly. He frowned and asked, "Serial killer? How did you come to that conclusion?""Mr. Mr. Abraham was killed and thrown into the water, isn't the pattern the same with Jill? He was thrown into the water, between the beach and the river. Fresh water and salty water. We finally found the similarities, didn't we?"Noel's words were true. They finally had a common pattern among the many murders that had occurred lately. Nicholas bit his lip, considering Noel's words i
CHAPTER 182Nicholas frowned for a few moments. A question popped into his head. Why did he just realize that Hendrick's statement was too brief to explain the chronology of Ace's escape from prison? The man pulled back, Nicholas letting his back which was stiff from the workload lean back. The top of the chair in the leader's room was indeed different from his room when he was a detective. Nicholas' eyes shifted to another direction, he tried to avoid interacting with Hendrick and said, "well, you can leave this room."Hendrick's one eyebrow raised, he was taken aback. But finally, the big man got up from his chair anyway. He nodded politely, then said, "Sure, Chief."Hendrick walked out of Nicholas' room feeling confused. He stared at the door beside him for a while, wondering if perhaps Nicholas was keeping something from him. But Hendrick eventually kept walking, back to his desk. From inside, Nicholas could see Hendrick's movement away from his room. Nicholas' room had a sizable
CHAPTER 183"Why do you think Hendrick did that, Nick?"For the past half hour, Noel and Nicholas had been sitting in the car. They were enjoying the hot coffee they had bought at the Fast Coffee shop while they waited for the rain. They couldn't go back to the police station and look at Hendrick with suspicion on their faces. Noel and Nicholas both needed time to compose themselves, for what one of their colleagues in the division had done."Actually... I was going to quit field duty after solving the explosion at Alicia's parents' house."Not answering Noel's question, Noel pulled out her coffee cup, which was steaming hot. The heat from the coffee didn't last long as the air was so cold, they had to finish the caffeine quickly or else they would lose the thrill of enjoying real coffee. But this situation was too difficult to accept and Noel couldn't enjoy his coffee properly."But as we can see, this case is more complicated than what we know. There are big people involved in it, e
CHAPTER 184The sound of knocking on the door made Alicia, who was playing social media, look away. She looked at the round wall clock on the wall, it was one o'clock in the morning. Who was visiting so early? Alicia turned off her phone, trying to keep it in the pocket of her red pajamas. She eyed the door warily when the sound returned.Knock! Knock! Knock!Alicia tried to grab the pepper spray from the table, she had prepared it in case Ace came in unannounced. She then got up from the sofa and, pointing the pepper spray towards the front, made her way to the door.Alicia's hand was already on the doorknob, and she opened the door in front of her."Nick?"Alicia's tense face changed quickly. She breathed a sigh of relief and clutched her chest. "You almost surprised me, Nick." Alicia's blue eyes looked around, Nicholas had come alone. "Why are you here so early?"But Nicholas did not answer. His eyes were blank. His mind seemed to be occupied by something Alicia didn't know. Nichol
CHAPTER 185The noise from the house next to Alicia's flat made Alicia, who was asleep on the sofa, wake up. She blinked a few times, before waking up and seeing that Nicholas was asleep on the other side of the sofa. They were under the same blanket, but sleeping in different directions."You should understand!"The loud voice came from outside, Alicia recognized it as a familiar voice. It was Mrs. Thompson. Alicia raised her neck, trying to peer through the window. But the silhouette of the old woman was not clearly visible. Alicia then lowered her legs from the sofa, wanting to see who Mrs. Thompson was talking to.But that small movement managed to startle Nicholas. He had had a rough day and had not slept well. Nicholas woke up and looked around frantically. "What's wrong, Alicia?""Fuck you!"The voice outside made Alicia and Nicholas both round their eyes, especially because after the shout, they heard the sound of tires squealing. It was an impromptu brake. And other noises th
CHAPTER 186Nicholas wore a sweater over his white shirt. He wore it because it was supposed to be his day off. Tonight was Christmas Eve, Nicholas was supposed to be sitting with Emma and Alan, his parents, enjoying gingerbread cookies and other sweets with Alicia by his side. Instead, Nicholas was caught up in a case that he had no idea how to solve."Have you finished your shower?" asked Alicia, when Nicholas finally joined her in the living room.Alicia had showered first and was wearing a lilac sweater to cover her casual clothes. The girl was eating the salad she had made when Nicholas sat down beside her."I made you a salad.""Thank you," Nicholas said, pulling out a bowl of fresh cut leaves tossed with mayonnaise and mustard dressing. Nicholas started to eat his salad, then continued the conversation, "Is Mrs. Thompson much better?""Yes, I checked." Alicia chewed the remaining food in her mouth, then continued. "But I'm wondering who exactly was the owner of the black car th
CHAPTER 187Meanwhile, Ethan, who had been focused on managing the cash register, couldn't help but be drawn into the heartwarming scene. The sight of Alicia interacting with customers, spreading joy in the midst of a crowded store, made him appreciate the holiday spirit even more.As the little girl walked away with her ice cream, Uncle Chuck turned to Alicia. "You know, Alicia, this store has had its share of Christmases, but this one feels extraordinary. Your presence has added a touch of magic."The smile on Alicia's lips did not disappear, she tried to look cheerful in front of the shoppers. The shop closed early because it was Christmas Eve. Christmas ornaments had already filled Uncle Chuck's shop. Uncle Chuck wanted to celebrate Christmas with his family, so he came out of his kitchen with a box of caramelized bread and milk. While looking at Alicia and Ethan who were also ready to go home, Uncle Chuck said, "I forgot whether I put the rest of the ice cream in the freezer or n
CHAPTER 188After hearing the news from Noel, Nicholas left the hospital immediately. He hadn't even had time to check the information he had gotten from Peter and let Peter catch up from behind. Nicholas drove his car at high speed, not caring about the traffic lights showing red, and how crowded the vehicles were on Christmas Eve. Nicholas would overtake other vehicles, trying to get to Uncle Chuck's shop as quickly as possible. He didn't even care about the horns from other cars after successfully overtaking a few of them."What happened?!"Nicholas' voice instantly filled the room, all eyes now looking at Nicholas who walked over with a panicked expression. His face was covered in sweat, he was trying very hard to get to Uncle Chuck's shop quickly.Nicholas moistened his dry lips, then looked at Noel. "Noel, where's Alicia?" His eyes widened, he was really frantic about losing Alicia. Nicholas then realized that Ethan was still on the floor, Ethan was awake, but he looked dizzy. N
