Maeve rushed down the stairs, her blonde hair flying behind her as she hastily grabbed a muffin from the table, biting into it. “Good morning, dad,” she greeted, her voice muffled by what was in her mouth.

Her father lowered the newspaper he was reading. “In a hurry?”

“Yeah. Noelle is waiting for me outside. I asked her to meet me very early this morning,” she answered. “Okay, can’t talk much, bye!” She said, scurrying out of the house. Just as she stepped out of the house, she noticed Noelle standing outside, dressed in a pair of black pant and a black jacket. “Here,” she shoved her bag into Noelle’s hands.

“Good morning, Miss Casalengo,” Noelle greeted, promptly collecting the bag.

“Where is that dumbass?” Maeve fumed, ignoring Noelle’s greeting. “Oh there he is,” she said as she sighted her driver getting into the car. “Come with me,” she ordered Noelle and the both of them walked towards the car. Noelle opened the door for Maeve to get in then, followed after hers. As soon as the door was closed, the driver started the car.

“My schedule for the day?” Maeve asked, swiping her phone out.

Noelle flipped open a notepad. “You have two interviews at talk show today, and a meeting with Dylan Bass,” Noelle said.

“Good. You have the address of the shows and their numbers?” She asked. “What time?”

“One is by ten this morning,” Noelle flipped the notepad. “Another by two and then, Dylan Bass is expecting you in his home by five in the evening.”

“Okay, that’s perfect then,” Maeve said. “How are the invitations going?” She asked.

“Hmm…..I’m almost done,” Noelle answered.

Maeve narrowed her eyes at her assistant. “You have to finish up before tomorrow,” she said in a sharp tone and Noelle hurriedly nodded her head.

“Miss Casalengo?” Noelle called in a small, timid voice.

“What?”

“I….I was going through the list of the people I’m to invite and I observed something,” she paused. Maeve raised a brow at her to continue and she did so hurriedly. “Mr. Dominic Fitz name isn’t there,” she said. “So I’m wondering if you omitted it and if I should include his……”

“No,” Maeve snapped.

Noelle thought she wasn’t hearing clearly. “No?” She repeated.

“No. I don’t want that man anywhere near my party,” she snapped, her eyes darkening as she glared at Noelle. “I must not see him there. Do not invite him.”

“Yes……yes ma.”

The car rolled to a stop in front of the company’s building. The driver climbed out of the car, turning over to pull the door open for Maeve. She climbed out of the car and the moment the flashes of cameras started pouring in, she slid on her shades, waited for the men in suit to surround her and started to walk into the building, not taking a moment to glance back at her secretary who was struggling to find her way in in the midst of the paparazzi.

They were scattered greetings of “Good morning Miss Maeve,” and “Good morning Miss Casalengo,” which she ignored, heading straight for the elevator. Noelle rushed after her, forcing herself into the elevator before it slid close. She panted slightly, swatting the hair that stuck to her forehead due to sweat.

“Can you breathe loudly somewhere else?” Maeve asked in an irritated tone.

“Sorry,” Noelle mumbled.

The elevator stopped and the doors slid open. They walked out of it and Maeve walked straight to her office, paying no attention to the woman scurrying behind her. She stopped in front of the door and turned slightly. “Why are you so slow?” She snapped.

“Sorry.” Noelle hurried to the front, pushing the door open for her. She stepped aside slightly for Maeve to enter, then followed her in. “Um…..we can’t wait long,” she said to Maeve who raised a brow at her questioningly. “We have to be on our way if we want to get your hair and makeup done before the interview,” Noelle informed her.

“Oh right.” Maeve sighed. “You are right.” She rose to her feet and grabbed her phone. “Come on, let’s go. Text my driver to meet us outside now,” she ordered, walking out of the office and back into the elevator. Once the elevator slid open, they walked out of it.

They left the the building amidst stares from people which Maeve ignored of course. She was an expert at this, ignoring glares or stares from people, avoiding the paparazzi.

Maeve and Noelle climbed into the car with Noelle giving the driver the location they were going. Maeve sunk into her seat and closed her eyes, feeling a slight headache coming on. She hadn’t slept at all the previous night, then, she had to leave the house very early.

“Miss Maeve, I contacted your make-up artist and your stylist. They’ll be meeting us there,” Noelle said, flipping through her notepad.

Maeve’s eyes flew open. “I have a makeup artist and a stylist now? Since when?”

“Oh, I hired some when I was told you’ll be coming,” Noelle answered.

Maeve pursed her lips. “I see.”

“Have you eaten this morning, Miss Maeve?” Noelle asked. “I can get us something when we get there if you haven’t.”

Maeve closed her eyes again. “I’m fine, thanks.”

She didn’t know how long she had been asleep but it didn’t feel long when Noelle tapped her carefully on her shoulder and announced, “We are there.”

Maeve’s eyes flew open and she glanced outside. “Oh right.” She brushed her backwards with her fingers. “Yeah, let’s go.” The door opened and she climbed out of it, walking into the building with Noelle scrambling after behind her.

As they walked in, a middle aged woman with brown hair approached them. “Maeve Casalengo,” she called. “Here you are.”

Maeve recognised the woman immediately. She was the host of the talk show. “Hiii.” The both of them hugged and air kissed each other. “Can I just say how excited I am to be on your show?” She said, silently hoping she looked it. She certainly wasn’t feeling it.

Noelle stepped forward. “Miss Maeve? Your make up artist and your stylist are waiting for you,” she informed her.

The next couple of hours happened in sort of a whirlwind. She sat for her makeup, got dressed, hair her hair styled and in the next few hours, she was on air. Even while on air, it all felt like a rush. At first, she was talking about herself and having fun while doing it - there was nothing that got Maeve going than bragging about herself - and the new thing, the show was over and they had to drive to the next one.

The next one was just as tedious and by the time she was done, Maeve was exhausted. But she still had a meeting with Dylan Bass though and that was a meeting she could not afford to miss. So, the driver drove to Dylan Bass’ house and once the gate was opened for them, he drove into the garage and parked there.

Maeve climbed out of the car and walked towards the building. She pressed the doorbell and some seconds later, the door is opened by a middle aged woman in an apron.

“Hi, good evening,” Noelle said, coming to stand beside Maeve. “We at here to see Dylan Bass? We have an appointment.”

The woman opened the door wider, stepping aside for them to walk in. “Mr. Bass will be down in a minute,” she said. “In the meantime, please take your seat while I get you something to drink,” she said, walking away.

Maeve sat on the couch while Noelle stayed perched on the arm of the couch. There was a short, awkward silence as Maeve typed away on her phone while Noelle looked around uncertainly.

The sounds of footsteps on the stairs had Maeve putting her phone away hastily. She rose to her feet as Mr. Bass appeared at the top of the stairs. “Uncle Dylan,” she exclaimed as the man walked down the stairs.

A smile bloomed on Dylan Bass’ face. “Maeve! You mean, I can see you again, after all these years?” He joked as they hugged tightly.

Noelle stared at them in confusion.

“I’m so glad to see you,” Maeve exclaimed.

“So am I, so am I,” he said as they pulled away and sat on the couch. “So, new COO?” He asked, a teasing tilt in his voice. “That’s amazing. Congratulations, I’m proud of you,” he said.

Maeve beamed. “Thank you,” she answered.

“When did you get back from Spain?“ he asked.

“During the weekend.”

“And you are taking on a new job already? Wow, I like that,” he said. “I like that.” He glanced at Noelle who was behind him. “And this is your assistant?” He asked.

“Yeah. Noelle Gentry,” Maeve answered for her.

Noelle gave him a tentative smile.

“So, Uncle Dylan, I was told about the project you had coming on,” she stated briskly.

“Going straight to business. I like it,” Dylan Bass mused. “Yes, I…I have a project I’m working on and I’d like to hire a company to oversee it.”

“Well, I don’t think I need to tell you what you already know.”

“Which is?”

“That we are the right company to hire of course,” she answered. “I went through the details of this project, and I can boldly tell you, that we are best people to hire.”

“And I don’t doubt that for a minute,” he looked amused, “but don’t forget that you’d still have draw up a proposal.”

“Of course. I’m working on it,” Maeve answered. And she really was. It was one of the things she stayed up all night, working on. “But I’d like you to keep your mind open about handing the project to us.”

“Of course Maeve,” Dylan Bass answered. “However, there are a lot of companies just as competent who have submitted their proposals also. So, you will need to impress me, Maeve, even far more than others.”

“I’m not going to disappoint you. But…..just for the sake of it, can you tell me what other companies have submitted their proposal?”

“Of course. Fitz Industries for one,” Dylan Bass answered.

A dark look appeared on Maeve’s face. “Of course,” she said curtly. “Well, Uncle Dylan, thank you for sparing us time this evening,” she said, rising to her feet.

Dylan Bass stood up too. “Anytime, Maeve.” They hugged again before they bade each other goodbye and Maeve walked out of the house with Noelle following behind her:

As they entered the car, it took a while for Noelle to realize that Maeve was fuming.

“Dominic Fitz,” she muttered underneath her breath. “Ugh.” She turned to Noelle. “What do you know about Dominic Fitz?” She asked.

Noelle adjusted herself on the seat. “Not much,” she said carefully. “Just what the news says about him.”

Maeve scoffed.

“Should I invite him?” Noelle asked again and Maeve turned to glare at her. “It will be like checking out the competition. You want to keep your enemy close……”

“Don’t invite him,” Maeve snarled. “I don’t care what it is like. I must not see that man anywhere near my doorstep.”

“Yes ma.”

Then, Maeve turned around and pressed her body closer to the door, closing her eyes. If she had just opened her eyes, she would have seen her assistant swiftly typing on her phone. And if she had just leaned very slightly towards her, she would have seen her sending an invitation to dominicfitz@g***l.com.

“That was a successful party we had on Friday night, don’t you think?” Bryan Casalengo asked his daughter, Maeve as she walked down the stairs dressed in a pair of black pants, a white lacy blouse topped with a black jacket. Her heels make a loud click-clack sound as she walked towards her father. “Good morning to you, dad,” She said, leaning down to kiss his cheek before taking her seat across him. “And yes, it really was a successful party.” She had spoken to as many investors as she could, familiarized herself with the bosses of the business world, even made a couple of acquaintances in the entertainment industry; and while some of them still doubted her capability, they thought her charming and sweet enough to want to talk to her. “Good. I think you will do great, Maeve. I believe in you,” He said. “Well, you are one of the few people who think that,” She muttered under her breath. For all her bravado, Maeve was a jumble of mess. The driver climbed out of the car, turning around to open the door for Maeve. He did it so fast and as soon as he opened the door, he jumped back. He had to because Maeve climbed out of the car so fast, she could have hit him without a care in the world, and he knew she was angry. He had seen it the moment they left the Bass Industries. She had climbed into the car and slammed the door close behind her, snapped at her personal assistant, Noelle Gentry and even at the driver. Noelle had silently gotten into the car with her, her hands folded meekly across her legs as she stared outside through the window. She and the driver both knew that any word from the both of them would infuriate Maeve further. As Maeve climbed out of the car, she slammed the door so hard, the car jerked. Noelle quickly climbed out, rushing after her. Maeve shoved her bag into Noelle's arms so roughly that the girl stumbled. Then, she whirled around and stormed into the office. Dominic sat in his car, waiting patiently, his hands on the wheels. He glanced at the time on his phone. It was half past seven. He had been here since half past six, almost an hour ago. In fact, he was very much aware of what time Maeve had pulled into the parking lot. He watched her climb out of her car, lock it and walk into the restaurant. That was almost forty five minutes ago. He knew how angry she would be if he was late and he purposely waited in his car just for that. The moment it was fifteen minutes to eight, Dominic climbed out of his car. He locked the door, turned and began to walk into the restaurant. He had to admit, the restaurant she had picked was a good one – lovely and quiet. When he stepped in, he noticed that all of the booths were private, the perfect place to have a private conversation. He paused for a minute, sighted Maeve in one of the booths and began to walk towards her. Just as he had predicted, she was angry and it was evident on her face. Without eve

They had a meeting scheduled for ten o’clock in the morning and they were both excited about it. Maeve was doing a good job of concealing her happiness though. She had a bored look on her face as she constantly glanced at her wristwatch, waiting for the time to clock quarter to ten before she would get out of the car. Once it was quarter to ten, the driver climbed out of the car, rushing to open Maeve’s door. She climbed out briskly, walking into the building with Noelle scrambling after her. Maeve chewed on her lower lip as she stared at the cover of the magazine. Dominic Fitz was once again on the front page of the magazine for being the most successful businessman of the month. She stared at the cover for a while, her eyes fixed on the picture. She had not seen him in a while, not after their heated kiss in the toilet, which happened weeks ago. Actually, she saw him from afar in a couple of business events and red carpets events and parties, but that was where it all ended. She made it a point of duty to avoid him all the time. It did not help that every time she saw him, she was reminded of their kiss. It did not help that she wanted a replay of that kiss, every single time, even as she was staring at the picture. There was a knock on the door and Maeve immediate shove the magazine under the table, straightening up as the door opened and her boyfriend, Issac, walked into the office. Yup, she had a boyfriend. • Love and Lies   Love and Date Nights

Maeve was excited. When was the last time she got the opportunity to prep herself like this, she wondered to herself. When was the last time she actually went on a proper date. She did go on a lot of dates when she was in Spain, but most of those ended in one night stand and she never saw them again. But this particular one, she wanted to see him again. She wanted to see Issac after today and she needed to make a good and lasting impression. So, Maeve stood in front of the mirror that morning, prepping her face. Looking beautiful was a strenuous job, she thought to herself, as she carefully rubbed across her face with a face sponge, but it was always worth the job. The process was quite nice too, knowing that once you were done, you’d be getting the necessary result. After taking care of her face, Maeve stepped into the shower to wash her hair. She took her time, washing it thoroughly and slowly, combing her hands through it, and letting the water wash the soap away. Afterwards, she

Maeve could hear the loud sound of the door knocking from her sleep, but she found it difficult to wake up. She twisted her body around the bed, squeezing the sheets with tightly closed fists. A very loud knock sounded on the door, jerking her awake. She immediately shot out of bed, her eyes flying open. The side of her head banged furiously, as she sluggishly climbed out of the sheets, slipping her feet into her flip flops and walking to the door. She unlocked it, opened it and sighed when she saw Imogen at the other end. “Should have known it was you,” she said, turning and walking back to bed. “Good morning to you too, Maeve,” said Imogen as Maeve bounced on the bed. “Don’t go back to sleep, I came to talk to you!”“Go away!”“Don’t be silly, Maeve. This is past ten, wake up.”“It’s Sunday, for fucks sake. Maeve stood in front of the mirror, admiring her dress. Her stylist had really outdone herself with this floral dress. She had paired with stilettos and a small purse. Her hair was parked into a high ponytail and her makeup looked flawless and stunning. She was going to be the centre of attention at the event which was exactly what she was going for. She grinned at herself before walking out of the room. Her father was downstairs, dressed in an expensive black tuxedo, waiting for her. As he saw her approaching, a smile lit up his face, “Ready?” he asked and she nodded. He held his hand out for her and she took it. Together, they walked out to the limousine waiting outside for them. Tonight, Dylan Bass was finally going to launch the project in this exclusive event that Maeve and her father were attending. Maeve slammed the phone down with so much vigor, a small smile on her face. She felt victorious. Dominic really believed he was going to come for her like that and get away with it. Maybe now he would learn to stop playing in her face. She shook her head, still smiling as she grabbed one of the magazines and studied her picture on the cover. She looked amazing, her hair flowing down to her waist, her legs strutted out and her hips bent to the side as she struck a pose. She flipped the magazine open, her eyes scanning through the article written. As she read it, she kept chuckling. She could see how and why Dominic was pissed. The article really painted Fitz Industries in a bad light and exposed Dominic for the fraud he was. Clearly, he didn’t want that. There was a knock on the door, causing Maeve to raise her head up. “Come in,” she called, closing the magazine and pushing it aside. The door opened and her personal assistant, Noelle Gentry, stepped into the office, before closing t

The day started out as normal as usual for Dominic Fitz. He had left the house very early, heading for his office and he was currently sitting by his desk, reviewing a couple of documents. He and Noelle had gotten into a huge fight, early this morning before she left – his mother had called the previous day to invite them for dinner, Noelle wanted to go but Dominic declined for both of them. Safe to say that Noelle was not at all pleased by this and all hell broke loose. She yelled a couple of names at him before storming out to work angrily. Now that he thought of it, he realized Maeve would have to deal with a moody and irritated Noelle. The thought made him smile. Everything went downhill the moment his personal assistant, John, rushed into his office, holding the phone in his hand. “Sir…your father wants to...speak to you…”Dominic sighed, rubbing his forehead with his palm. “Can it wait? What was that saying – where there is family there is love? Well, right now, Dominic was not feeling a lot of love towards his family. He was seated on the couch, fuming inwardly. Across him was his father and mother and at the other side of the room was his step-sister, Noelle. He and Noelle had arrived about ten minutes ago to find his parents waiting outside his home for him.The atmosphere was tense and uncomfortable, and Noelle shuffled around on her feet, itching for someone to break the silence, while Dominic glared at his parents, especially his father. “Anna, how was the journey here?” Noelle asked Dominic’s mother politely, finally breaking the silence. She cringed at the question. The journey here? It wasn’t like they lived at the other side of the world. Although, they did live a good thirty to forty-five minutes away from them. “Oh, it was great, darling, thanks for asking,” Anna answered kindly.
