Aurora:

Eventually, Trish had to drive us back home because I wasn't in the right state of mind to drive. I don't think I've felt this lost in a long time.

Despite the fact that she was usually a menace on the road, always driving fast and bumping into things, she drove slowly today, giving me the chance to rest my head against the tinted window without fear that she might suddenly speed up and make me hit my head.

She hadn't said anything since we left the diner. I hadn’t either. There really was nothing to say, and I appreciated the silence and the fact that she didn’t bring up Adrian.

She just quietly gave me the space to think.

A deep breath escaped my lips as the car pulled to a slow stop in front of our apartment. Without a word, we both stepped out, grabbed the bags from the trunk, and climbed the stairs to the porch.

She pulled out her keys and slid one into the keyhole before turning the lock and opening the door.

Trish stepped inside, and I followed.

♛ Aurora: A simple response on handling the situation was what I had wanted and requested from Adrian. A plan, an email, or maybe a short Zoom call on how to handle the situation. Not this. Not something that would involve me standing outside Blueprint Corp. at eleven the next morning. Edward opened the door for me from the outside, and I stepped out, adjusting the cuffs of my blazer. A breath of air escaped my lips. Beside me, Bonnie checked something on her tablet before glancing up at me. “The meeting is supposed to start in three minutes,” she informed me. I nodded, inhaling the warm Monday morning air as my eyes trailed up the neat and bold lettering on the skyscraper. Blueprint. I pressed my lips into a thin line. As far as I remember, I had never been here before… maybe once, probably, and not significant enough that I could easily remember. I don’t think I’ve ever needed to be in his company. It was something he built while we were facing a hard time in our marri

Chapter 25♛Aurora:I could feel the sharp ringing in my head as I stepped out of his office and he didn't call me back. I didn’t want him to simply whisper my name to himself, or call me the endearments he had always used that have carved themselves to my heart, I wanted him to call me back. And talk to me, regardless of who is around us.It was supposed to be that simple. What on earth could he be keeping to himself that he couldn’t just simply say?Except it was something he didn’t want the media to find out about. I sharply recalled him coughing furiously and painfully at the club that night. Was all this something related to that? I shook my head at the thought.I doubt it was. From then till now I've held to the belief that the reason for the divorce is because the love that was once there somehow wasn’t there again after three years.People usually fall out of love… I just didn’t expect… Actually, all these didn’t matter anymore.A conflicting emotion seared through my veins

♞Adrian: The bed’s getting colder, and she’s still not here. I sit up, dragging a hand down my face, and running a hand over the empty sheets beside me, my fingers brushing over the fabric where she used to sleep. The clock on the nightstand reads at 2:47 AM, reminding me that sleep hasn’t come easy in years. I stared blankly at the ceiling, not realizing how fast the time had gone into the night. I should be used to this by now. It’s been three fucking years. Three years since I signed those divorce papers with my own damn hands. I stare down at my hands… could I just fucking cut them? I believe I should, but then how would I go after Rory when I’m handicapped? I cursed under my breath, recalling every single thing from back then. I told and convinced my self that I was doing the right thing. That she deserved better than a man who might not make it out alive. But I never expected the regret for my actions to feel like this… like a dull knife pressed against my ribs, cutt

♞ Adrian: “From how you handled the issue with the divorce years back, do you think you deserve her forgiveness easily?” The question was sudden. My fingers subconsciously stopped tapping at the armrest of the couch I was sitting on. My gaze trailed outside the window, and fell on the song sparrow perched on the window sill, twitching annoyingly, and tapping the window glass with its beak. The bird must have noticed me gazing at it, it tilted its head. Left. Right, and then left again, before it turned around and flew away. The absence of the sparrow brought back my attention to Iris’s question which threw me deep in thought. There was a particular reason why I had chosen Iris as my therapist years ago. Actually, it goes both ways. She believes she had chosen me herself, while I, on the other hand, know for a fact that I picked her out of the countless options available back then. She had a reputation for being sharp and brutally honest. She didn’t sugarcoat things or

♛ Aurora: Despite what I thought, and despite continuously convincing myself to not care about Lucy’s words the other day, I still couldn’t ignore what she had said. I knew for a fact that I shouldn't simply believe whatever she said without confirming it first from Adrian, but still… I ran my fingers through my hair, and let my head fall on the headrest with my eyes closed. Should I just speak with him? That wouldn’t be easy to do, at least on my part but it would make my thoughts stop spiralling this way. A deep breath escaped my lips, and I finally opened my eyes after a long moment. It’s been exactly three days from then, and to my surprise Adrian hadn’t shown up at the site this week, which was really weird, especially considering the fact that he had been the one constantly showing up everyday since we started two weeks ago. “Ma’am, are you listening to me?” My eyes finally trailed up at the sound of Bonnie’s voice I blinked, pulling myself out of my thoughts, and

♛ Aurora: My gaze fell on the neatly brushed sleek black hair, before it trailed lower to the pair of dark brown eyes staring right at me. My brows creased into a frown, “Noah?” Noah’s lips pulled up into a warm smile, “Hi. Aurora.” he greeted softly. “I had no idea you were coming around,” I stated, and he simply shrugged at my words. “Had no intention of letting you know I was going to drop by your office.” He said after a moment. How did he know my office? I had no idea. But I don't think it would have been difficult to. He must have asked around. And besides, Astra & Co. was a company one could easily locate in the city. After we saw each other at the charity event weeks back, I hadn't seen him since then, and I was far too occupied. I almost forgot about the fact that I could call him since we exchanged numbers that night. I stepped aside from the door, and gestured, “You can come inside.” He nodded, and without another word he stepped inside the office. He w

♛ Aurora: “So, don’t tell me you actually agreed to go on a date with him just because of that?” I scooped the oat cereal from the bowl on the dining table before bringing it up to my lips. Trish sat across from me on her seat on the table as she dug into the pasta we just finished cooking less than ten minutes ago. I had gone through the details of Noah’s visit in my office today, and somehow with how she was staring at me, I couldn’t tell whether she was pleased with the idea of me going out on a date with him, or whether she was displeased. I picked at my cereal, already losing my appetite because of this conversation, while Trish shook her head as she twirled her fork in her pasta, watching me with an expression that made my skin itch. “Say whatever’s on your mind before you explode,” I muttered. Trish sighed. “I just don’t get it. You don’t even like Noah. So why waste your time?” I spared her a blank look, “I already told you the reason. That it stems from his mother push

♛ Aurora:People usually talk about marriages that fail because the love was never there, but no one talks about the pain of losing the love that was once there. “I have something important to tell you.” A frown curved up my brows as I read the text. “Don't wait up. Busy with work. Eat without me.” I could feel my heart crash in my chest the longer I read the second message he had sent. No one tells you about the heartbreak of watching a once-loving man drift away. And no one tells you how it feels to watch love wither away because of being neglected. When your husband’s affection turns to indifference. Or where a man who once loved you simply stops trying. Breakfasts on the table aren’t as warm as they used to be. Lunch is skipped ‘cause he got busy with work. While dinner is just me alone with the cutleries in my trembling hands as I stare at the door, waiting for him to show up, only to get a text an hour later that he wouldn’t be able to make it. The good morning k

♛ Aurora: My heart dropped to my stomach, and my cutlery fell from my hand, clattering on the plate. I turned to Dmitri, and he was quick to raise his hands in surrender. “I promise you this wasn't planned.” He could be lying, but somehow, I had a feeling he was being honest with me. I simply shook my head and tugged at Trish’s shirt. “Let's leave.” She finally looked up from her meal at the same time Leon did, and it was at that moment they both finally noticed the suddenly still air. “What the hell is he doing here?” Trish didn't hold back, clearly pissed. She threw a displeased look at both Leon and Dmitri. “I knew it wasn't a good idea coming along with you two.” Without another word, I shifted in my seat, picked up my purse, and slid out of the booth. Trish followed. I did well to ignore Adrian’s presence and not turn my gaze to the door where he stood. I didn’t even glance up at him again. Not even when he started walking over to the booth we were standing by.
