Aurora:

“So, don’t tell me you actually agreed to go on a date with him just because of that?” I scooped the oat cereal from the bowl on the dining table before bringing it up to my lips.

Trish sat across from me on her seat on the table as she dug into the pasta we just finished cooking less than ten minutes ago. I had gone through the details of Noah’s visit in my office today, and somehow with how she was staring at me, I couldn’t tell whether she was pleased with the idea of me going out on a date with him, or whether she was displeased.

I picked at my cereal, already losing my appetite because of this conversation, while Trish shook her head as she twirled her fork in her pasta, watching me with an expression that made my skin itch.

“Say whatever’s on your mind before you explode,” I muttered.

Trish sighed. “I just don’t get it. You don’t even like Noah. So why waste your time?”

I spared her a blank look, “I already told you the reason. That it stems from his mother push

♛Aurora: I heard the sound of a car pulling up to a stop outside the apartment and a breath I hadn't even realized I was holding before escaped my lips. My gaze trailed over to the wall clock which read 6:45 P.M. Thank goodness I got ready and prepared early, I whispered to myself as I stood by the mirror in my bedroom, trying to wear my pair of earrings. I glanced down at the tight brown dress I was wearing, my fingers brushed against my neck as I fixed the collar of my dress. With one last look at myself I sauntered outside my bedroom door and headed straight to the main door in the living room. The house was very quiet, mostly because Trish wasn't around. Something held her back and she wouldn't be able to come home till later. I picked up my purse on the couch, and slipped my phone inside. When I reached for the door handle, I hesitated, my fingers lingered about it. A small part of me wondered if I should just turn around, kick off these heels, and curl up on the cou

♞ Adrian: The private lounge above was where most of my business meetings took place…especially those that demanded discretion. Tonight was no exception. “We’ll finalize the contract revisions for the Oakridge project by Monday,” I said to the man walking beside me, Raymond Carlo, a long-standing business associate who handled acquisitions and international expansion within our firm. Also, he was an Italian and someone I trusted a lot to handle most of my international businesses. “Absolutely,” Raymond replied, his voice tinged with nervous energy as he nodded in understanding. “And regarding the Singapore proposal, shall I arrange a follow-up with Tripod firm? They had concerns about the zoning ordinances affecting the waterfront development we were working on earlier this year.” I nodded once, not missing a step. “Yes. Get legal to prepare an outline addressing the variances. If Tripod still hesitates, we pivot to Castle light. We can’t afford delays at this stage.” “U

Chapter 33 Aurora: I arrived at the apartment late that night, feeling heavy and drained, with the last look on Adrian's face before he stepped out stuck to my head. I was afraid he was going to say something. But to my utmost relief he left when I told him to, and I appreciated that. A deep breath escaped my lips and I slid my bag from my shoulders, dropping it on the couch before heading straight to the kitchen to get a cup of water. My gaze fell on the cooked meal on the stove and I immediately knew Trish was back. Without much thought, I walked over to the refrigerator and opened it, grabbing a bottle of water before bringing it out and pouring it into my glass. I walked over to the stove and opened the pot to see what Trish made. I wasn't surprised when I saw that it was just the usual. Pasta. Trish’s favorite food if you ask me. I closed the pot before bringing the cup to my mouth and gulping down the water. Placing the glass back to its place, my legs marched out of the

♛ Aurora: “Are you up?” Another message was sent almost immediately, and it read: “Can we meet?” I absentmindedly read the message out loud. A frown curved up Trish’s brows and she looked away from the movie she was watching, sparing me a side glance. “Who the fuck wants to meet you by five minutes to 12 A.M?” She asked, her brows pulled together and her gaze dropped to my phone. I mirrored her expression as I stared blankly at the screen of my phone, wondering exactly what Adrian was supposed to do. Why would he want to see me this late? What was so important that he couldn't leave till tomorrow? I stared at the screen, and answered Trish. “Adrian.” She scoffed, shifting on the couch, and turning her gaze back to the movie, “Of course, it’s him. What does he want now?” I didn’t reply immediately. Instead, I tapped out, “For what?” and sent the message. A response came almost instantly. “It's about the project. ♛ Aurora:People usually talk about marriages that fail because the love was never there, but no one talks about the pain of losing the love that was once there. “I have something important to tell you.” A frown curved up my brows as I read the text. “Don't wait up. Busy with work. Eat without me.” I could feel my heart crash in my chest the longer I read the second message he had sent. No one tells you about the heartbreak of watching a once-loving man drift away. And no one tells you how it feels to watch love wither away because of being neglected. When your husband’s affection turns to indifference. Or where a man who once loved you simply stops trying. Breakfasts on the table aren’t as warm as they used to be. Lunch is skipped ‘cause he got busy with work. While dinner is just me alone with the cutleries in my trembling hands as I stare at the door, waiting for him to show up, only to get a text an hour later that he wouldn’t be able to make it. The good morning k

♛ Aurora: Feeling numb all over me, I lay on the bed for close to an hour after waking up. My head was throbbing with a sharp ache, and my eyes were burning with pricked tears. Why am I still crying? I’ve been trying to stop the tears from spilling out, but the moment I wipe them from my eyes, more keep on clouding and blurring my sight. My heart feels like it’s being ripped out. And that hurts. “Rory!” a loud voice called out to me from outside, but I simply ignored it. It hurts so much that I just want to stab it and end the ache. I feel miserable, and according to Trish, there is no cure for a broken heart; only distractions can help. She said alcohol works like magic; I tried it out and finished a bottle despite my low tolerance to alcohol. It actually worked at first. I wasn’t thinking about Adrian for the first hour, but right after an hour and a couple of minutes, I remembered one of the nights he kissed me to sleep, muttering ‘Amore’ in my ears, and just like that, th

Aurora: I pressed a palm to my head and briefly shut my eyes as Trish led me into the loud club room, the loud beat of the music vibrating through the air. People were everywhere. By the wall kissing, by the dance floor, grinding on each other, or getting soaked with a bottle. I felt dizzy from the noise; my head was pounding sharply as Trish led me in. I should have known this wouldn't be a good idea. “You okay? she shouted, trying to keep her voice heard over the music. She spared me a side glance, and a small smile curved her lips. I gave her a small nod, but only half meant it; I wasn't okay. Not at all. My gaze scanned the club, and I suddenly wished I was back in the safety of the bed. Her fingers tightened around mine as she walked over to the bar; my gaze flicked over to the bartender, who was a young man. “Two drinks!” Trish shouted; her voice was barely audible over the loud music playing. He nodded, turned around, and set two glasses on the counter b

♛ Aurora: “Are we there yet?” I asked, looking up from the hem of my dress as the sleek black car slowed down to a stop at the front of the Grand Hotel. “Yes, ma’am,” Edward, my chauffeur, looked up at the rearview mirror and nodded, “Are you still on call?” he asked me. I nodded and shifted in my seat, adjusting my dress with one hand, while the other held my phone to my ear. “I’m just saying honestly. She doesn't exactly look like the easiest person to work with.” Mia ranted on and on, not stopping to take a breath. “But weren't you among the employees that voted to take her in?” I asked, looking through the tinted glasses to see the photographers, journalists and onlookers standing outside the red carpet. Mia let out a strangled grunt, “Unfortunately, I was among. And the only reason I accepted that she should work with you is because she's very diligent in everything,” she sighed, and then added, “Which is quite a bitter thing to express.” I exhaled, looking u

♛ Aurora: My gaze fell on the neatly brushed sleek black hair, before it trailed lower to the pair of dark brown eyes staring right at me. My brows creased into a frown, “Noah?” Noah’s lips pulled up into a warm smile, “Hi. Aurora.” he greeted softly. “I had no idea you were coming around,” I stated, and he simply shrugged at my words. “Had no intention of letting you know I was going to drop by your office.” He said after a moment. How did he know my office? I had no idea. But I don't think it would have been difficult to. He must have asked around. And besides, Astra & Co. was a company one could easily locate in the city. After we saw each other at the charity event weeks back, I hadn't seen him since then, and I was far too occupied. I almost forgot about the fact that I could call him since we exchanged numbers that night. I stepped aside from the door, and gestured, “You can come inside.” He nodded, and without another word he stepped inside the office. He was

♛ Aurora: Despite what I thought, and despite continuously convincing myself to not care about Lucy’s words the other day, I still couldn’t ignore what she had said. I knew for a fact that I shouldn't simply believe whatever she said without confirming it first from Adrian, but still… I ran my fingers through my hair, and let my head fall on the headrest with my eyes closed. Should I just speak with him? That wouldn’t be easy to do, at least on my part but it would make my thoughts stop spiralling this way. A deep breath escaped my lips, and I finally opened my eyes after a long moment. It’s been exactly three days from then, and to my surprise Adrian hadn’t shown up at the site this week, which was really weird, especially considering the fact that he had been the one constantly showing up everyday since we started two weeks ago. “Ma’am, are you listening to me?” My eyes finally trailed up at the sound of Bonnie’s voice I blinked, pulling myself out of my thoughts, and

♞ Adrian: “From how you handled the issue with the divorce years back, do you think you deserve her forgiveness easily?” The question was sudden. My fingers subconsciously stopped tapping at the armrest of the couch I was sitting on. My gaze trailed outside the window, and fell on the song sparrow perched on the window sill, twitching annoyingly, and tapping the window glass with its beak. The bird must have noticed me gazing at it, it tilted its head. Left. Right, and then left again, before it turned around and flew away. The absence of the sparrow brought back my attention to Iris’s question which threw me deep in thought. There was a particular reason why I had chosen Iris as my therapist years ago. Actually, it goes both ways. She believes she had chosen me herself, while I, on the other hand, know for a fact that I picked her out of the countless options available back then. She had a reputation for being sharp and brutally honest. She didn’t sugarcoat things or ent

♞ Adrian: The bed’s getting colder, and she’s still not here. I sit up, dragging a hand down my face, and running a hand over the empty sheets beside me, my fingers brushing over the fabric where she used to sleep. The clock on the nightstand reads at 2:47 AM, reminding me that sleep hasn’t come easy in years. I stared blankly at the ceiling, not realizing how fast the time had gone into the night. I should be used to this by now. It’s been three fucking years. Three years since I signed those divorce papers with my own damn hands. I stare down at my hands… could I just fucking cut them? I believe I should, but then how would I go after Rory when I’m handicapped? I cursed under my breath, recalling every single thing from back then. I told and convinced my self that I was doing the right thing. That she deserved better than a man who might not make it out alive. But I never expected the regret for my actions to feel like this… like a dull knife pressed against my ribs, cut
