Alena's parents were not going to the gala because they had a meeting with some important people regarding business. So, she would be alone with Edmund.
She finished curling her long hair into big, loose curls and doing her makeup. Looking at the time, Fern came to help her put on her dress.
Fern had been working for them for years. Her sister, Avrielle, was only two years old when their father hired Fern. But soon, Fern would stop working for them because she was turning sixty-five in a couple of months, and her father thought it would be better for her to retire and focus on her family and grandchildren.
Alena put on her earrings and stood in front of the mirror to check her reflection. Grinning, satisfied with how she looked, she took a selfie and posted it.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
It must be Edmund.
Would he like her dress? Oh my God, why was she so nervous around him?
She walked into the living room and saw him standing in front of the big glass door, looking out at the garden. She could only see his back. He hadn’t noticed her, and she didn’t know what to do.
Taking a breath, she cleared her throat. He turned around slowly to face her.
"You look perfect," he said, smirking as he walked toward her. He placed one arm around her waist and pulled her close. His gaze locked onto hers as he ran his knuckles softly down her cheek, then moved to her red-painted lips.
"You don't know how bad I want to kiss you..." he murmured, his eyes flickering between her lips and her eyes as he pulled her even closer.
She gulped.
Oh my God...
Could she just die right now?
No!
Okay.
"Let's go." He released her and placed a hand on her lower back as they headed to the car.
The drive was silent. She lowered her gaze to her engagement ring. Willa had given it to her early that morning, but it was Edmund who had brought it.
It was a big diamond. It was beautiful. But she was still disappointed that it wasn’t for love.
"You know, our marriage may be arranged, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter. Like I said before, I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t want to marry you—because I am a man, and I have already been married."
He had been married?! To whom? And why weren’t they together anymore?
She wanted to ask but chose not to.
They got out of the car, and he took her hand as they walked inside. Wrapping an arm around her waist, he pulled her closer.
"Cardinal!" a loud voice called out. They turned to see a man in his forties with a young woman beside him. The woman wore heavy makeup—almost like a mask—and a dress that barely covered anything.
"Rich," Edmund greeted him, shaking his hand. His cold stare was back, his intimidating presence unmistakable.
Rich gave him a nod before his eyes landed on Alena, looking at her with admiration. "And who is this beautiful lady?" he asked, still staring.
Edmund’s grip on her waist tightened.
"This is Alena Nicole Perez Sandoval, my soon-to-be wife," Edmund said in a hard tone.
He knew her full name...
The woman beside Rich didn’t seem to like that, judging by the glare Alena could feel burning into her. Not that she cared—she didn’t even know her.
"Well, nice to meet you, Alena. And congratulations," Rich said, now looking back at Edmund, whose jaw was clenched, his expression unreadable.
"If you'll excuse us, I’d like to show my fiancée the paintings." Without waiting for a response, Edmund nodded and led Alena away.
Well, that was rude.
They entered a large room filled with paintings and photographs. There were people inside, some staring at them with wide eyes and open mouths, their expressions ranging from shock to curiosity. Some women gawked at Edmund, while others threw glances her way. She ignored them all.
The paintings were stunning. She stared at them in awe until one in particular caught her eye—a breathtaking image of Santorini. Gasping, she walked toward it, unconsciously leaving Edmund behind. She had always wanted to go to Greece just to see it in person.
She felt Edmund step close behind her.
"Do you like it?" he asked, his warm breath brushing against her neck.
"I love it. This place is beautiful."
"Have you ever been there?"
"No, but I hope I’ll get the chance someday. I’ve always wanted to go," she admitted.
He moved next to her and pressed a kiss to her cheek.
"Then I'll take you," he declared. "But for now, we should join my family's table."
She nodded.
They were about to enter the banquet hall when a woman's voice stopped them.
"Not so fast, Edmund."
Edmund tensed beside her.
She turned around to see a beautiful woman with blonde hair and hazel eyes, wearing a blue satin dress.
The woman looked at Alena coldly, and Alena met her gaze without an ounce of intimidation.
"Who are you?" the woman asked, staring straight at her.
Alena was about to introduce herself when Edmund cut in.
"She doesn’t need to answer your question. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’d like to go to my family’s table."
Who was this woman?
"Come on," the woman scoffed. "You think I didn’t notice the engagement ring on her finger? Everyone here has been talking about Edmund Cardinal’s fiancée." She snapped, stepping closer.
Edmund immediately moved, shielding Alena behind his back as he faced the woman head-on.
"What do you want, Irina?"
Irina?
"I just wanted to say hello," Irina replied with a saccharine smile. "Is this how I’m greeted now? You sure got over me quickly."
Got over her quickly?
Irina’s gaze flickered to Alena's confused expression before shifting back to Edmund with a smirk.
"After all," she said, "we were married for five years."
Realization hit Alena like a truck.
Her breath caught as she turned to Edmund, whose jaw was clenched, his cold stare fixed on his ex-wife.
Edmund’s cold stare didn’t waver as he looked at Irina. What the hell was wrong with this woman? Was she testing his patience? He exhaled sharply, shaking his head. Irina knew damn well he was short-tempered. But seriously, he didn’t have time for his ex-wife’s drama. "Listen, Irina. My fiancée and I don’t have time for this," he said, grabbing Alena’s wrist. As they turned to leave, Irina’s voice rang out behind them. "Edmund doesn’t want a teenager for a wife. He’ll never take your marriage seriously." Alena stiffened, but Edmund didn’t stop walking. The rest of the event went smoothly, but she barely spoke. She only answered when spoken to, her mind elsewhere. She couldn’t stop thinking about Edmund’s ex-wife. They were married for five years. Why weren’t they together anymore? Was it an arranged marriage too? Did he still love her? Too many questions swirled in her head. "Alena," Edmund’s voice broke through her thoughts. His tone was soft, but his gaze was sharp. "
Alena groaned as she heard her alarm going off. She always liked running early in the morning, only when she was in the mood. Nothing's harder than leaving her bed sometimes. But Edmund's driver is going to pick her up at seven thirty. She went to the bathroom, took shower, then went to her walk-in closet to get her running shorts, a black sports bra under her tank top, and put her shoes on. She looked at herself in the mirror, and tied her hair into a ponytail. She was not a super skinny person, but she has always been confident with her body. She went down to the kitchen, and quickly ate an apple. She ran to the door before Fern had the chance to yell at her to eat. She slammed the front door, and ran to the car laughing as she heard Fern yelling. She could see Paulo, Edmund's driver looking at her with an amused face. She smiled at him before getting in the car, and he closed the door.Paulo started the
Alena showered, then looked at the clothes Fern chose to her. It was gray skinny jeans with a red v neck shirt. Just what she needed. She tried her clothes on, she doesn't know if she was going downstairs or just stay here. After what happened between Edmund her, she was kinda scared to see him again. Their marriage was arranged, so does he need to be all possessive over her?She sighed, and ran her fingers through her hair, then got up to left the room. She made her way down the stairs, and started looking around the house. Then, she entered the kitchen, finding a woman probably in her fifties. The woman looked at her and smiled."You must be Alena," the woman said, smiling again.Alena just nodded, and took a seat on one of the stools."I'm Rebecca, the housekeeper. Edmund told me a lot about you. I'm happy to finally meet you". Rebecca said, hugging her as she hugged her back.
Alena was currently at Vera Wang shop with Willa and Luciana, Edmund's mother. Edmund has been gone for three days, and she still hadn't heard any news from him. What a fiancée.Her dress was almost done. She just tried it on, and there are still things that needed to change. So, Willa and Luciana were taking care of that because she was tired. They have been walking all day, brought the jewelries, and everything. She drew a deep breath. The wedding is now in two weeks. It was fast, but all invitations have already been sent. She looked up when she heard Willa's loud voice. Willa and Luciana were arguing with the man who was supposed to take the details for the cake. Apparently, something went wrong. She was laughing at those crazy women arguing with the poor man when her phone started ringing. She looked at it to see an unknown number. She answered, "
Today was Alena's wedding. She can't believe it's today. She was so nervous. Her 4 bride maids were all here with her. It was of course Penelope, Avrielle, and her cousins Jayda and Maya.Willa's makeup artist Rome was currently doing her makeup, and her hair stylist was doing her hair. She couldn't look at herself just yet because they won't let her."Okay. Now, finally we are done," Rome announced excitedly. She tightened her robe, and then turned to the mirror. She looked at herself and gasped. It was so weird. She can't even believe it was really her. She looked more mature.Willa and Avrielle already told her that she couldn't just act like a teenager anymore. Or like a spoiled kid. And she agreed with them. Right now, her hair was done into a tight low bun. Her makeup was so beautiful with peachy pink eyeshadow and natural color lipstick. And there was a jewelry tied around her bu
Alena just got in Edmund's private jet, and she still doesn't know where they are going. She changed into jeans and a v neck shirt before leaving. She sat in front of him, and looked outside as she was so nervous about the all honeymoon thing. She doesn't know what to do. Did he expect anything from her? She was nervous. They always had the same rule. One of the things her mother thought was, that they weren't to have sexual relationship with a guy before marriage. Even after her mom, Willa has always been pretty clear with it. Reason why she never wanted a boyfriend. She didn't want to be tempted at a young age. She and Avrielle never complained about that tough, because they believed that's what was right and that's what they believed in. She looked at Edmund to see him already staring at her. "You look tired. Why don't you go take a rest. There's a bedroom on the back," he said. She nodded
Alena and Edmund have been married for a month now. And things aren't really going as she expected. Since their honeymoon, he doesn't look at her, or talk to her or touch her. When she tried to talk to him, he just make the conversation short, and walked away. She doesn't know why, but it hurts so bad."Don't forget about Penelope's parents anniversary today," she reminded him as he was fixing his own tie to go to work. She sighed when no response came from him, and walked up to him. "Is everything alright?" she asked him, putting her hand on his back.He just walked away, sighing. "Don't wait for me. I will be there when I am done with my work," he said as he took his keys, and walked away. She looked at him as he walked out of the room. She started crying silently without even realizing it. She was so weak. She gave him her virginity since the honeymoon. She was starting to fall in love with him, a
It's been two days since the party, and Edmund got back to the way he was. He started ignoring Alena again. Alena doesn't know what the hell is wrong with him.She shook her head, and got up to take a shower. Today, she was hanging out with Avrielle and Penelope.Seriously, she doesn't know what's wrong with her husband. She tried talking to him and did everything she could to get his attention. She think she just going to leave him alone for now.She drew a deep breath, and did her makeup, straighten her hair and put her clothes on. She grabbed her purse and phone, then went to her car and started the engine. After 30 minutes of driving, she parked her car, and went inside the restaurant they were supposed to meet at. Penelope and Avrielle were already there. She hugged them both, sat down beside Avrielle, and started talking."So, how are you doing, Mrs. Cardinal?" Penelope ask
Edmund was in the WalMart for a few minutes, and I still can't find the name brand Pads for Irina. He gave up looking when he walked out. He had a pit in his stomach and felt very nervous at that point, why? He had no idea.He began driving home when he became restless an unsettling feeling riled up inside him, making him drive home faster than ever.Something was wrong with Irina. He thought to himself as he ran into the house."Irina?" Edmund screamed but no voice came answering back.He bolted to the bathroom she was in last, and found a note on the floor. After reading it her heart swelled then after realization hit him. It bursted and broke into a trillions of pieces.Irina was being abused by her own family. She was trying to kill herself because she thought her pain would be end.
"You mind if I sit here?" Iñigo came and sat beside Ana."Sure, you can sit there.""Whats your name beautiful?" He asked, making Ana blush a little. She haven't done that in a while."Its Ana. I'm here for my friend, she invited me. Whats yours?" Ana watched as he licked his lips before speaking."Iñigo." "He said smiling a little showing his dimples that An just now noticing; which are making him even more sexy.He grabbed her hand. "Lets go dance."Ana followed him.She started moving her hips to the beat of the song playing. He placed one hand on her hip. "Get right, Ana! Get right!" She heard her friend Jessy yell from where ever she was."You wanna come to my place, Ana?" Iñigo whispered in her ear sending chills down my back."Yeah, sure." She nodded."Use protection!" Jessy ass yelled as they both Ana and Iñigo made their way out the club. They walked up to this shiny black range rover. Iñigo opened the door letting Ana in, then jogged over to his side. "Do you mind?" He aske
The sound of the alarm clock woke Atasha out of her sleep, shielding her eyes from the light that was coming through the window she made her way to the bathroom where she splashed some water on her face. She was shocked when she took in her appearance in the mirror, she was still in her dress but more shocked when she realised she was actually in her room, and not remembering getting here on her own, She face palmed herself as she realized maybe Iverson or his driver had brought her in, as she vividly remembered falling asleep due to the slow music the driver had been playing. After few minutes of feeling embarrassed, she decided to take her bath and screamed out loud when she realized that she was late for work. After rushing, and cursing, and shouting, and dropping, and throwing things Atasha was finally ready and out of the house. She waved for the taxi approaching and quickly buttoned up her jack cause of the cold. When the taxi stopped in front of her, she hurriedly got into it, a
When the car stopped indicating that they had arrived Atasha exhaled for the tenth time since she had been in the car with Iverson who never bothered to have a conversion with her even when he got off the phone five minutes ago.Atasha's door was pulled open by the man who apparently was the driver. She muttered a little thank you to him and stepped out of the car, that was when she realized that the sun had gone down but it wasn't completely dark yet. They had stopped in front of a restaurant it had an Italian name so Atasha didn't bother reading it.Iverson came and took Atasha's arms in his, which made Atasha hold her breathe, not because he took her unaware whatsoever but because she couldn't believe the mighty Iverson Cardinal knight whom she had only heard about in the news, or seen his pictures on magazines was asking her to marry him, actually he never asked but the thought of this man being her husband was worth holding her breath for."Shall we? Annd please smile," Iverson s
Atasha was surprised, confused and startled at the same time. She was trying to make sense out of the words that where coming out of his mouth.Marriage? Atasha had no plans of getting married not now maybe next year and when she does, she was planing on getting married to the love of her life, to a man that loved her and cherished her, she wants to have a happy home, a home full of love and happiness like her late parents. She had always admired how her parents loved each other to the extent that they died together, that was the kind of marriage she wanted to be in, a contract marriage had never been on Astaha's plans hell no if he hadn't mentioned it she wouldn't have imagined it ever till the day she died. She never wanted to be in a contract marriage besides she had read books about them and the marriage was never a pleasant one to be in, no love nothing, the thought of it was horrible more especially, she didn't even know the man.Why her? Was the next question that came to her m
The noise of pages turning was the only sound heard in that room until there was a sigh. It was a sigh of tiredness that had left his lips, unable to take in the situation."So there is no other way to get the property?" Iverson asked, looking at the lawyer with a cold expression. The lawyer smiled nervously glancing at the person sitting beside the cold man."No," He replied meekly not wanting to upset him because he was very well capable of destroying him."Read that clause again." He ordered leaning back on his chair and staring at him intensely. The lawyer fumbled through the pages before getting to that clause and reading it out loudly."Transfer my entire property to my youngest son, Iverson Cardinal which includes 4 mansions, 3 farmhouses, 50% share from my company, and the neighbouring land, but only after it is made sure that he has a son or daughter of his own. If at all he remains single when he turns tweny-seven, all of my property must be transferred to a trust." He compl
After Edmund was down beating the guy to pulp I pulled him off to the library."Where are we going?" He asked as I tug on his arm.I don't answer but keep trudging along pain searing through every vein."God, Irina. What happened? Why the hell are you wearing shorts?" Edmund asked and I stop in my tracks, tears already brimming my eyes."Fuck! I'm sorry, I didn't mean it to-" he noticed I'm crying, so he pulled me into a hug. I hugged him back knowing my plan is working."I-I'm sc-scared. I-I don't wa-want t-to live l-like this any-anymore!" I yelled to him gripping onto his shirt for balance."It's okoy. You can live with me in our house, it'll be alright. Nothing will happen to you, I'll make sure of it," he assured, and that makes me rethink my plan.He doesn't matter, no-one does, do it a voice says, and I listen to it. "Take me to your house please?" I said, wiping my tears, and letting go of his shirt."I will." He smiled, and leads me to his car.**A few weeks passed and I gre
This was ultimately the worst beating I've ever had, it was the best one I've ever had.My dad jumped on my stomach, he's about 250 pounds, what do you think happened to me? You guessed it, I heard and felt cracking in three different places, I'm sure he broke my ribs.Prima had a small knife in her hands as she turned me over and sliced into my back, it was painful even though the cuts were shallow. She decided to slash at my arms and legs also drawing blood from almost every inch of my body. After kicking and punching me several times they went up into my room and took out all my pants replacing them with shorts and replacing all my sweaters with t-shirts.It was going to be horrible at school tomorrow, but I deserve it, anything they their at me is because I deserve it, and they let me know that. It's been carved into my brain the first time they hit me.People were going to stare and ask if I'm okay, I don't need their pity and I'll tell them that.I'm so beaten and worn out that
"How would you even put this on?" I asked Edmund, holding up two pieces of fabric that would barely cover any part of my body.He laughed, and puts the bikini back on the shelf, walking over to another he pulls out another one that looks."How about this one?" he asked as i look at it I become more infatuated with it.It's yellow and simple, it almost looks like a pair underwear and a bra."Let me try it on," I said, walking over to the dressing rooms."Can I help?" Edmund asked seductively and I blush deeply."N-no. . ." I stutter out as I walk into one of the rooms.Okay, I would've loved for him to help me, I think I'm falling for his charms! I can't though, he's the campus bad boy, my father would be more than furious and try to kill him, though I wouldn't be surprised. I just can't fall for him. It's so annoying how safe I feel in his arms or how our hands mold perfectly together, I can't take it, I just know I'll be falling for him soon. Why must I love so easily.I don't even k
