Kyas POV
“What’s all the commotion in here!” His voice boomed through the cafe.
“My lord she is paying with stolen money. No one would pay a slave and we all know her status.” The clerk spoke quickly.
Alpha Collin stared into my eyes. His dark green eyes brimming with disgust. He towered over me like a giant with huge muscles and a fierce demeanor.
“So you’ve resorted to thieving now? After all your father did for you, you disgrace him like this?” He scoffed while laughing with his officials.
“Where did you get this money little scummy?” The alpha asked over me menacingly. I felt my heart tearing into smaller and smaller pieces.
Stuttering I tried to answer “I earned it….”
I thought about a lie to say so I didn’t give my only income outlet away, but I had no choice. Lying to the pack alpha is treason and he would certainly have me brutally beaten.
“I worked on the outskirts of the pack, for members doing miscellaneous jobs. None of them knew of my status and allowed me to live normally in their presence.” I breathed out hurriedly.
“So you deceived them and took their money huh? If they knew you are a slave they would’ve given you nothing. You work for your pack. We owe you nothing.” The alpha stated blandly.
“I..I…I didn’t deceive them… I’m not a thief” I bowed and tears fell freely from my eyes. I was shaking to my core with fear.
“YOU DARE CALL ME A LIAR?” The alpha boomed.
A moment later the men moved aside as the bells rang again and beta Charlie entered the cafe.
“Alpha you sent for me, how can I serve you?” He bowed.
Glancing over he realized me standing there surrounded by the alpha’s officials looking pathetic.
“What has the scum done now?” He let out.
“She accuses me of being deceitful.” The alpha stated nonchalantly.
SMACK!!!
Beta Charlie’s hand connected hard with my face leaving a large red welt and burning instantly across my head.
“How dare you?!!! Have you not done enough? You shameless woman why are you even here? You have no home. No friends. No reason to stay here except to be our pack slave and even then no one wants you to even serve them.” He boomed out loudly.
His words were cold… but true. I had nothing here. I started pleading “Alpha please I’m so sorry, I did not mean any offense, this is a misunderstanding.” Tears flowed fast down to my small chin.
“Throw her in the dungeon. That will teach her to steal from and extort my people.” The alpha grinned.
With a wave of his hand, his men gathered me and dragged me out. Exiting the cafe with my head low I could hear other pack members murmuring amongst themselves as the guards took me to the pack house.
“She’s the worst I hear even her father hates her,” one said pretentiously.
“I would too if someone killed my mate and cursed my pack.” Another spat.
Deep in my heart, I used to listen to such ramblings but after 18 years of this hatred, it’s nothing new to me. Many people blamed me for my mother's passing and I can’t help but wonder why the moon goddess did this to me. Why did she give me such a pitiful existence in this world?
As if being born from a Beta and being an omega wasn’t punishment enough she left me with this blasted curse mark and a dead mother.
As we entered the pack house I felt a twinge in my heart. I smelt an overwhelming fragrance of pine wood and fresh linen. It was delectable.
I lifted my head to glance around to find the source of that amazing smell. Then my gaze caught the deep gaze of a man across the room. We locked eyes for a brief moment.
Mate. My wolf became excited.
He walked directly to where I was standing shackled by the guards with my eyes glued to him.
“What has this prisoner done?” Caleb asked his men. “She’s a petty thief and she insulted the alpha” the men replied.
Caleb glared at me. “What a joke.” He smirked and walked away. I could feel my heart slamming against my chest.
I found a mate! It was Caleb!!
My wish…it came true! Unfortunately for me, Caleb was shallow and cold like his father. The look in his eyes told me this was not a good thing. He looked disappointed and disgusted.
They quickly dragged me down the corridor to the staircase at the end. It was a long staircase leading deep below the pack house. The smell was rancid and of urine and feces.
They passed a few cells with prisoners contained. Some with menacing smiles, others old and quiet ready to depart. I held my breath as they dumped me at a cell furthest from the entrance.
Some cells had lights, windows, and a little mat to lay on, but not mine. My cell seemed to be the absolute worst, it was dark almost pitch black in the cell with just a bare cold ground to lie upon.
“You get the torture cell sense you keep torturing us with your presence.” The guard spit at me and left.
I curled into a small ball and cried. I cried for a long time. I thought I had grown strong enough that these things couldn’t break me anymore but I was always surprised by the cruelty they showed me.
After a while, I sat thinking of my mate. His beautiful body, all the stolen moments watching him train, he could be our savior Athena! My wolf didn’t respond though.
“Athena are you with me” I asked the desolate corners of my mind praying for a response.
”I’m weak Kya. Stop thinking of him” Athena growled bitterly.
What?! She was so happy when she recognized his wolf.
Why was Athena acting like this? Now that I think of it she hasn’t spoken since Caleb approached us. What did she sense…”Athena….”
Finally, Athena responded again “Brace yourself”.
What is wrong with my wolf today? I know it’s been rough but nothing less than what we have endured. Why now would she act hurt and angry?
The stairway had patterns of heavy footsteps coming down them. I stared at the entrance as Caleb emerged. I couldn’t help but smile inside.
He is my only hope.
He walked gracefully past all the prisoners and stopped in front of my cell. He reached into his pocket and pulled the key. He entered my cell quickly without so much as a glance.
I stood immediately trying to gather myself respectfully.
“Hello, little scummy” his words laced with venom.
My nickname never bothered me more than it did at that moment.
“Let’s not pretend we both don’t know why I’m here. So let’s go ahead and get it over with. I Caleb Fierier reject you Kya the cursed. May you live out your miserable life without me”
I shattered inside. My only hope. My only chance for love? Holy hell I am cursed. I never imagined the pain that flowed over my body at that moment could be so excruciating.
I dropped to the ground barely grasping consciousness as my heart tore into millions of pieces. My wolf howled endlessly in my mind.
Caleb stepped away grinning. “How dare the moon goddess try to curse you upon me.” As he turned to walk away I grunted and made it up to prop myself on my knees.
“CALEB” I screamed.
“maybe this will kill you and rid you of us all.” He grinned as he turned back to face me. He didn’t expect what came next.
“CALEB I ACCEPT YOUR REJECTION I KYA THE CURSED ACCEPT YOUR REJECTION. MAY YOU LIVE THE LIFE YOU DESERVE” my screams echoed throughout the corridor.
My voice almost sounded powerful before I blacked out from the pain. Dropping to the hard ground I felt darkness envelop me completely.
Meanwhile, while I was dead to the world...
Caleb stared at me for a moment lying on the ground, then looked up to see the prisoner in the cell next to me was grinning at him.
“Would you like a lesson in manners woman? Avert your eyes!” He stomped away scowling at the prisoner.
She smiled deeply “This pack has no honor whatsoever. I don’t even feel the least bit remorseful for what comes next” the woman cackled back at him.
Two days later…
I withered on the dungeon floor for what felt like months. No food or water was given to me either. I truly thought I was dying a few times while withering and clenching my abdomen and chest in excruciating pain.
In and out of my consciousness I would see my cell neighbor glancing at me. She didn’t look like a beaten-down prisoner but a young beautiful woman.
I heard her murmuring a few times or maybe I imagined it but I think I heard her congratulating my strength. Mine? I must be delusional.
By day three I could stay conscious for longer periods. Rejection could kill an omega like me. How could he? I’ve never done anything to merit a death like this.
I’m leaving. My mind is set I will leave and if I die… I die. It’s better than the option of dying in this cell one day.
A voice broke my thoughts “So you want to leave?” The woman next door sang. “I’m Vivi and I think your right. You should be free of this place.”
Can she hear my thoughts?
“I’m Kya. And yes I think it best I abandon a hope of a life here.” I wiped my eyes and looked around.
It was dusk outside I could see from my cell neighbor's window. My entire body blared in pain. I winced trying to stand.
“Sleep one more day, I guarantee you will not die here. I will bring you with me!” Vivi exclaimed. “Wha what are you….” I passed back into darkness.
I slept the entire night and day. By evening my body was starving itself. I felt death was coming sooner than later when suddenly the guards evacuated quickly rushing up the dungeon stairs.
“Where are they going so fast” I asked out loud.
Vivi started bouncing and chanting. “When the time comes Kya come with me, show respect and you will be blessed.” She winked at me.
Growls, screams, and shrieks of horror permeated the air. Even below ground, we could hear something horrific was occurring. I started shaking in fear and hunger.
“Vivi.. thanks for being here with me at the end,” I said quietly accepting my fate. “Oh honey, he’s here. He’s here, he’s here….” She sang loudly. The stairs boomed with feet.
Three large men burst into the dungeon. The men were bigger than most of the men in our pack. They were all muscle with stern strong demeanors. Even alpha Collin looked small in size compared to these men.
“Alex baby you came for me” Vivi played as a damsel as she spun around and fell into his arms.
“Vivi stop the theatrics you knew we’d be here let’s go.” The man responded. The men stopped and glanced at me, the pathetic girl next to Vivi's cell.
“Can we keep her?” Vivi gleamed at the leader Alex. “She looks… yes we shall take her to Alpha. Can she be trusted not to run?” Vivi glared at Alex “Do you think she can even walk?” She snapped at him.
His eyes widened “What happened? What do they do to their woman here?” My appearance made the men angry.
The last few days I lost the little weight I had and became a bag of bones. My cheeks sunk in and my arms were small and frail. There was no way I could stand never the less defend myself against these men.
“They call them scum, reject them and leave them to die in dungeons,” Vivi said casually. The men’s eyes flashed their wolves.
They broke me out and carried me away. As I slowly came out of shock I could smell nothing but blood and earth. As my eyes opened and closed I caught glimpses of dead pack members everywhere.
“Wha what happened?….” I tried to ask before I was shoved into a large Jeep that sped away.
Kyas POV Hours later I woke up in an unfamiliar room. I looked up at the odd ceiling slowly gathering myself to stand up. There was a pitcher of water and a glass on the table next to me. I drank 3 glasses of water before finally standing up and looking around. My head was on fire pounding from tearing in two. I noticed a door and tried it but it was locked. I glanced around and saw another door, upon entering I saw a huge glorious bathroom with all kinds of bubbles and woman potions. A large tub stood before me with beautiful gold claw feet. My body ached, my head still spinning from Caleb’s rejection. “Why am I alive…” “Where am I?!?” Questioning everything I realized that after almost losing my life I might as well live a little. My entire body ached, my nails embedded with soil, and my hair a matted mess. I turned the tub on, maybe I could wash away the pain from the last week. I touched the water with the tips of my fingers and my skin burned and turned red. I’ve neve
Max’s POV “VIVI DID WHAT?!” I bellowed at my officials as they came into my jeep with an unknown prisoner. As if to ruin my day these insufferable people never stop. “My lord she is the one. The one I spoke of. The one from the prophecy!!” Vivi screamed back in my face. I swear making this woman one of my officials was either the stupidest or smartest decision I’ve ever made. “Do you truly believe she is the one?” My tone deepened as if Vivi spoke the truth that would mean everything would change. “Yes, alpha I do. I witnessed it with my own eyes when she rejected her mate.” Vivi stated calmly. “Sh-she did what?” I couldn’t fathom a small girl like her could muster up a rejection. With the men I’ve met from that pack though I don’t see why she’d keep any of them. I didn’t. I killed almost every single member of this forsaken pack and I would do it again. They are cruel ugly wolves who live for sex, money, and fear. After meeting their alpha at the last meeting I knew this pa
Kya’s POV An hour or so went by until I heard a light knock on the door. “Co-come in…” I stuttered. I didn’t realize I had been standing in the same spot he left me. Princess…I’m his?… wait until this alpha gets to know me. I’ll be the new pack slave in no time. I’m a weak wolf and I can barely even hold my head up anymore. As the door opened I quivered not knowing who would knock in the presence of a prisoner. “It’s meeee Vivi!!!” She chanted as she led a brigade of maids carrying trays. They placed the trays neatly along the table and exited quietly. All except Vivi. “Hello, Kya! You must be starving!!!” She beamed at me. This woman is annoyingly happy. Her energy exudes joy and brightness. I couldn’t help but smile a little at her genuine kindness. I’ve never actually experienced kindness except for when I met that wolf in the woods. He let me cry and brought me peace in a time I desperately needed. I didn’t even thank him…. “Why are you frowning? Where are you lost? Do
Max’s POV My office door swung open with a bang against the stone wall. “ALPHA!” Vivi yelled while tears rolled down her cheeks. “Don’t ever barge into my office Vivi we’ve had this talk” I roared at her. I’ve never seen Vivi shed actual tears before. These looked to be genuine. Vivi is a theatric. She can play any role and blend like a chameleon in most situations. She makes for a fine official but her lack of boundaries is a big annoyance to me. “Out with it Vivi I’m very busy and my wolf is already severely frustrated today,” I stated blandly. “It’s about the girl… Kya… so this won’t be as easy as I thought in the beginning. She is strong but has absolutely no knowledge of it and right now is closer to death than I imagined. But I fear something much worse. From the treatment described she’s been tortured her whole life.” Vivi bowed her head. I could feel a sad aura coming from her usual bright annoyingly happy self. Whatever happened to Kya must be worse than we could’ve
Kyas POV Awakening to the shimmering sun gleaming in the ceiling-length window from the corner, my eyes peered open. I slowly lazed up then everything hit me. I was truly no longer in my pack. ‘How am I still here? It wasn’t a dream?’ I thought panicking and looking around. The velvet couches, the fireplace, it was all real! That means… My stomach started grumbling as I put my hand on my belly I thought “The food was also real” and I started salivating. I still couldn’t fathom why this pack has brought me here and shown such kindness. My body is slowly recovering already. I can feel a little bit of energy growing within me. After a rejection from a soon-to-be alpha, I still do not understand how my weak body could endure the bond breaking completely. How could Caleb be so cruel? How could the moon goddess curse me even more in this life? For years all I dreamed of was Caleb being my mate, being my savior from the position the pack placed me, being a person in this world to wh
Alpha Max POV It was early in the morning when I awoke in my office. I lifted my head as papers fell from being stuck to my face. I quickly organized them away and pinched the bridge of my nose. My eyes felt heavy as sleep came very little last night. I tried to focus on pack dealings and project offers but my mind kept drifting back to Kya. Her scent alone has me wanting to head straight to my quarters and discover her secrets. I could feel Artemis itching to see her again. Bringing a prisoner here has never caused a situation like this. What has Vivi done!? Trying to get a grasp of myself I went to my private bathroom in my office to freshen up. As the hot water burned over my large chiseled muscles, I hung my head. My member twitched as my thoughts went to Kya's slim figure. My thoughts drifted to seeing her for the first time laying helplessly in my Jeep. Though her locks were matted I could see a gold glimmer from her long hair, her small body quivering in need of comfort,
Max’s POV Staring at the spot where my father died brought my heart to a deep dark place. “Artemis right now is not the time to reminisce the past, it’s unchangeable and I’ve accepted it,” I told my wolf. “I did not bring you here to reminisce but more to make you remember we are the strongest of strong alphas. If we can conquer our enemies we can help our queen” he replied. “Why do you keep calling her that? She’s a mere omega whom we both know has been a slave her whole life. What could be so special about her? Is she the one?” I asked Artemis curiously. Artemis growled in response telling me our conversation had run its course. As I sat in this forsaken spot I took in deep breaths. I felt shaken from reliving the worst memory of my life. Sighing I took in one more breath and stood. My paws are surrounded by lush grass and small flowers. The beauty of this place truly astounded me compared to the scene I see every time I visit. Death. I started back to the pack house lett
Max’s POV I returned to the pack house and went straight to my office. I mind-linked a maid to bring me some food. Though I probably couldn’t eat, the day is already coming to an end and I need to keep my strength. After a few hours and a small meal, I heard a few knocks at my door. “Enter,” I said blandly laying down the files I was going over. My mood was bitter and angry. “Alpha I brought the informant as requested,” Vivi entered with a slender blonde-haired man. “Sit I have a few questions about the emerald west pack” I ordered them as they walked over to the front of my desk. They took seats across from me and the meeting began. “Issac I need to know everything you learned whilst visiting that pack, especially anything concerning a girl named ‘Kya’” I addressed the informant. “Alpha that pack was like no other I have visited in the past. As I’ve told you previously before we attacked they are brutal mean wolves who kill mercilessly and treat all others beneath them.” He s
Kya's POVWe arrived at what looked like a burial ground on the far end of the pack after a long quiet car ride. Something about being around alpha Max has my heart feeling fluttery and uncontrollable. Even Athena is acting weird. Max parked the car and walked around to my door opening it for me to exit. "Follow me, little wolf," Max spoke as he took my hand in his and we walked side by side over to a large opening in the earth. "He died in his wolf form so this is the best we have, if you cannot identify him it is ok Kya I just need to know," Max spoke calmly and cooly in my ear as we approached the grave.Inside the grave lay a partially decayed black and silver spotted wolf. I scanned it closely with my eyes realizing its size alone should have told me right away. "This is the missing gamma..." I whispered covering my mouth with my hand trying to hold back vomit that started bubbling in my stomach. "Thank you," Max spoke quietly as he placed his hands on either side of me and dir
Max's POVThe trip was excruciating as my men carried me home. Being ambushed twice in one night took almost every bit of energy I had, I realized while traveling this was a setup as most of my men agreed all of the wolves had one target.Me.Eager to see Kya I refused to rest traveling home, like a boy with a gift to present I felt gleeful. Capturing Caleb has brought Artemis and me great joy as we traveled home in victory. We proudly returned to the pack and I rushed directly to the pack house. After returning to my pack with our prisoner in tow my leg started healing pretty quickly, entering my quarters I instantly noticed Kya's scent was very faint and almost gone from my room. Looking around my room slowly I notice any sign of Kya has been removed, her clothing is gone, and her bath products too. Artemis started to grow more frustrated as he realized Kya's absence."Vivi!!!!" I boomed through the mind link at Vivi knowing this was probably her doing. "Yes, alpha?" She responded.
Kya's POVVivi charged straight at me without warning, side-stepping I dodged her first attack. Spinning around to face Vivi with my hands raised in front of me I caught Vivi's flying foot that almost connected with my face. Releasing her foot I stepped back but her advances did not come to an end as she lunged forward with a closed fist. This was much more fun than I could have imagined! With no time to focus on anything but Vivi's next attack, I could feel my brain fog clearing. My heart started to feel light again and dare I say it, I was not half bad at this.Drenched in sweat after a couple of hours with Vivi training we stopped to take a break. "Kya you are very very fast, faster than myself I could say with a little more training! I did not know this would be so easy, you are such a fast learner too!" Vivi spoke proudly to me smiling widely as she sat next to me a drank a large quantity of water."I have always wanted to train Vivi I cannot tell you how thankful I am you are do
Kya's POVThe prisoner bellowed with laughter "YOU!" He roared crazily as he started to pace around his cell pointing his finger at me while scratching his head. "Kya who is this man? Was he your old alpha's theta?" Max asked looking back and forth between myself and the prisoner. "He was one of the alpha officials when I was a small child he...." before I could finish the prisoner spoke over me. "KYA? THIS IS THE GIRL? CALEB YOU FOOL!" Zeke screamed from his cell.A response came from a cell at the furthest end of the dungeon "Yessir" followed by maniacal laughing. "Caleb..." I spoke under my breath turning toward his voice. As I went to step in Caleb's direction a large strong hand shot out before me "No” Max's eyes flashed his wolf as he looked deep into my own.'The smell of death was so strong in here how could I have not sensed Caleb's presence?' I asked Athena, to be met with silence. My heart shook with fear and pain as all the previous excitement from this morning disappea
Kya's POVMy mind spun circles as the stress of hearing Caleb being brought here has brought me many unwanted emotions. Thoughts from my childhood started bubbling to the surface as tears silently fell down my pale plump cheeks. As I drifted into slumber my dreams took me away... Scenes started flashing before my eyes. Walking through the forest around age nine I recall Caleb and I coming across each other. After I finished my morning chores I would walk the pack trails to find peace away from my drunken father and avoid the other girls my age who had nothing better to do but harass and attack me any chance they had. "What are you doing out here instead of attending to your chores?" Caleb asked me as he approached a little hidden trail I was walking along. His short chocolate hair was perfectly on his forehead and his mouth made a large grin at me, "My chores are complete, I am just taking a small stroll for some air" I responded quietly bowing to him trying to hide my blushing chee
Caleb's POV Leaving the dungeun in a blind rage I ran as fast as I could out of the pack house. Looking ahead I saw some movement coming from a small wooden shack at the end of the road. ‘I was so focused on confirming Kya’s death how did I miss that!’ I thought to myself staring at the shack as shadows passed by the windows. Hiding behind a nearby tree I warned Charlie through the mind link about the shack and he slowly approached from the rear and hid behind the large tree with me. We observed the area for a few moments noticing no movement outside or around the shack. "Do you think there are any survivors?" I asked Charlie through the link, He responded by walking past me toward the shack. I followed slowly and cautiously. 'Would the dark moon place guards here? Are they coming to claim my pack's land?' I thought as we approached the shack slowly. Charlie nodded at me and went the opposite way around the cabin. Following his lead I went around the other way to check for guards
Caleb’s POV I turned to leave the cabin as Charlie stumbled over the stool and fell face-first onto the ground. “I will return soon” I murmured to him even though he was already snoring. Shutting the door behind me I stood outside the cabin breathing heavily as my head spun from the last few hour's occurrences. Beside the small cabin was a down pine tree I had come here weeks ago and carved a little bench into. This cabin has been a haven for me since childhood, my father being the unpleasant man he was made living with him an absolute nightmare. Even though I was to be next in line for alpha he always treated me as a weak little tag along. Never introduced me to the elders or business partners even though I would plant each evil seed in his head to help him keep our pack afloat. Always pushed me to the side, especially after what he did to my mother… Anger boiled in my veins ‘of course I remember Kya’s mother… She destroyed my family!’ I thought while glancing at the cabin think
Caleb's POV"Caleb we are under attack! The dark moon has infiltrated our pack and is moving in past our borders" My father shouted at me as we both stormed out of the packhouse. 'The dark moon pack devours packs...were doomed.' I could not help thinking about it on our way to the exit. The night was dark and cold leaving an eerie feeling in the air. Our land is one of poverty so attacking us will gain them nothing. It was bound to happen with the pathetic excuse of an Alpha we have. Beta Charlie stood outside the pack house waiting for us to go approach the battle."There are too many of them Alpha if we run now we might survive!" Charlie spoke. "No! No other pack will take us. Not this way!" My father shouted furiously before shifting and heading toward the battle.I followed for a moment then I mind-linked Charlie, "Charlie he made me reject her, your daughter is dead, this pack is not worth our lives." I spoke clearly and sternly."When we reach the battle if you are the smart m
Max’s POVI left the packhouse that night with one task in mind. Finding the man who attacked my home. Finding the pathetic wanna-be alpha who tried to murder Kya. Finding peace for us all. After picking up Caleb’s scent I could not stop Artemis from following him. A small team of elite guards joined me in finding the trader who sent rogues to attack our beloved pack. After traveling for a full day we located the traitor's hideout. The scent led us to a small clearing deep in the forest far away from my territory. Traveling this deep into the forest is not normal for most wolves as all you will find out here are crazed rogues with an unimaginable blood thirst. Ahead a small cabin could be barely seen peeking out of the wood at the edge of the clearing. I stopped my men for a moment to plan our angle of attack. In every battle no matter how big or small you must have a plan for the worst.Splitting my men into two formations we surrounded the hideout easily from the north and south en
