Max’s POV
My office door swung open with a bang against the stone wall.
“ALPHA!” Vivi yelled while tears rolled down her cheeks.
“Don’t ever barge into my office Vivi we’ve had this talk” I roared at her.
I’ve never seen Vivi shed actual tears before. These looked to be genuine. Vivi is a theatric. She can play any role and blend like a chameleon in most situations. She makes for a fine official but her lack of boundaries is a big annoyance to me.
“Out with it Vivi I’m very busy and my wolf is already severely frustrated today,” I stated blandly.
“It’s about the girl… Kya… so this won’t be as easy as I thought in the beginning. She is strong but has absolutely no knowledge of it and right now is closer to death than I imagined. But I fear something much worse. From the treatment described she’s been tortured her whole life.”
Vivi bowed her head. I could feel a sad aura coming from her usual bright annoyingly happy self. Whatever happened to Kya must be worse than we could’ve thought.
“Kill them” Artemis whispered.
“Kill them all” he spoke louder.
My eyes blared red and suddenly Vivi was against the stone wall with her trachea beating in my palm. “Al-alpha” she gasped. I dropped her immediately.
She scrambled to her feet reaching into her pocket she produced three yellow vials of liquid and handed them to me bowing. I quickly ingested one and pocketed the other two.
“Tame me all you want but she will be our queen” Artemis growled before he drifted off to gently snoring in my mind, leaving behind a massive migraine. What is wrong with me?
“It’s getting harder to control?” Vivi spoke looking up at me questioningly. As if wondering if I was in my right mind again.
“It’s okay he’s backed off for now but yes since the girl's arrival he’s been acting like a maniac, he listens to nothing and is becoming obsessed with her.” I scratched my head wondering why my crazy wolf had this sudden irrational attachment to a mere omega.
“Have you any proof of the possibility of her being the one of the prophecy?” I need to stay focused.
“No. But it will take time. I won’t know for sure until I see her wolf but I already feel the need to take the place of her guardian. I will act in place until I know for sure.” Vivi stated proudly.
“Tell me why you fear she’s been tortured. How bad is it?” I asked blankly.
“Alpha… I don’t think she’s ever had a meal before. She didn’t even know how to use utensils! She told me she begged for scraps her whole life. Did you see how skinny she is? I think they starved her for long periods….” Vivi let out sadly.
Vivi’s eyes welled up again as if she could feel the pain poor Kya explained. She seemed unlike herself today angry and sad. Vivi has killed many people in war but her bubbly smile has never faded until now.
“She referred to herself as their slave…” she held her hand over her heart clenching it as if in deep despair.
My bones began to crack and break. My clothes shredded around me as my claws and teeth elongated. Artemis was free and he had heard enough. Without thinking we jumped out of the big open window in the corner of my office.
I hit the forest fast and hard pushing the dirt brutally against the earth as I flew through the trees. I stopped and let out a long broken howl. The entire pack went quiet for a moment and howls returned tenfold.
When the alpha wolf of a pack is in pain the entire pack can feel it. They can help strengthen their alpha by supporting me in times of darkness. The energy in the night shifted aggressively.
Alex’s voice rang in my mind “Alpha what do you need? Where are you? I can assemble men immediately just tell me what you need” he sounded panicked.
I fought Artemis to reply “Alex let everyone know everything is fine. Artemis is having a fit, I can’t seem to get him under control!!!” I said quickly. I’m starting to fear the amount of control Artemis keeps claiming over me.
Other alphas have full control over their wolves. They are in sync as one. Artemis and I have always lived in sync until recently. He’s losing it.
“Done and done alpha. I’ll tell Vivi to make something stronger!” The link went quiet.
I found my way to a nearby lake I frequented when needing moments of clarity. Artemis paced in circles until our paws were raw. Growling lowly while our body heat radiated.
“Talk to me old friend what is happening” I asked him calmly in our head.
“Max she’s our queen. You do not understand now but you will. They soiled our hierarchy. They hurt our queen! We allowed our beautiful queen to grow in pain” he howled again in agony.
“Queen, Artemis if she’s not our mate, how can we have a queen?!” He was losing me with this mumbo jumbo.
“You will see.” I slowly started shifting back as he fell silent in the depths of my mind. I pulled out a cell phone “Alex send my driver to the lake. Things are okay now.” I stated.
“Yes sir!” He replied, I cut the call and glanced out over the water. The moon was high in the air gleaming off the water. The woods were quiet and serene with only birds and small creatures paws padding the gentle leaves.
I pulled some clothing out of a hidden trunk we have out in the forest marked by certain types of trees. The air was cold on my muscles calming my body as I slipped on the black sweats.
I took a deep breath as a black car screeched to a halt in front of me. The driver quickly exited and opened the back door with a small bow “alpha”.
I entered the vehicle already missing the peacefulness of the wood. My phone blared again. I shuffled around and the screen read Vivi’s name.
“Speak”
“Alpha I truly did not mean to upset you. We still have much to discuss. Please let me know when you are ready.” She said in an odd voice.
Vivi always surprised me with the level of composure she could keep around my wolf. There was another time when Artemis was a bit out of control and Vivi almost gave her life for it.
I’ll never forget that night.
“Meet me in my office in 15. Artemis is too exhausted at the moment for more stunts” I cut the call and focused on the moonlight spreading the tree line. I couldn’t help but question in my mind over and over...
Queen… could she be our queen? Why would Artemis call her that? Oaf things just aren’t adding up since this girl's arrival.
Later in my office, I found Vivi pacing around like a maniac. “Vivi speak calmly, Artemis has not been in his right mind since Kya's arrival.” I reminded her as I entered and sat behind my desk.
Glancing over all the files and paperwork I realize I have to get my head straight sooner than later. Work never waits. I cannot let any distraction keep me from ruling my pack properly.
“Alpha we will have to take this extremely slow. I highly recommend we capture the escapees and question them thoroughly about Kya's past.” Vivi slowly started.
“I do not think she should know if we find them either as the way the previous alpha son talked to her I think it would be bad for her mental state. She truly thought he was her savior” Vivi was lost gazing out the window as she spoke.
“This is going to be a lot harder than we thought also she cannot know,” she murmured.
Sighing I could feel something deeply disturbing. “Vivi just tell me how to help her, those bastards! I wish I would’ve killed them a bit slower. When I get my hands on that delta and alpha baby I will rip their beating hearts out.”
As my heart rate started to increase I could feel Artemis stirring in the back of my mind. “Vivi we will discuss more later, Artemis needs rest.”
As Vivi turned to leave I caught a glimpse of her expression and it was fierce. I truly could not tell if she was in deep sorrow or about to burn the place down but even I couldn’t help but feel her immense aura. She slammed the door whilst muttering on her way out.
Vivi has been one of my strongest allies for years and for that, I made her one of my officials. Beyond my beta Alex, my gamma Ben and my theta Scott Vivi holds a rank one below my own.
At first other alphas scoffed and laughed I had a woman in my official party, and then we went to war. She swiftly took hundreds of lives beside me in battle without breaking a sweat. I couldn’t help but give her the rank in my pack she deserved.
Vivi would make a fine mate for any wolf but our relationship never progressed in that manner. She stays close to me like family and her goofy personality drives me past annoyance sometimes.
She came here long ago claiming to be sent by prophecy holders. She said her loyalty was now to my pack and she would stay until her destiny came forth. We never delved into it too much but the prophecy she holds seemed worth the risk of accepting her into the pack at the time.
Sitting behind my desk my thoughts came floating back to Kya. How could they not feed their own? Why would they let such a beautiful girl suffer so much? How did she survive the destruction of a mate bond being only an omega?
How did this treasure fall so easily into my hands? I thought grinning slyly and dived into the stack of files before me.
Kyas POV Awakening to the shimmering sun gleaming in the ceiling-length window from the corner, my eyes peered open. I slowly lazed up then everything hit me. I was truly no longer in my pack. ‘How am I still here? It wasn’t a dream?’ I thought panicking and looking around. The velvet couches, the fireplace, it was all real! That means… My stomach started grumbling as I put my hand on my belly I thought “The food was also real” and I started salivating. I still couldn’t fathom why this pack has brought me here and shown such kindness. My body is slowly recovering already. I can feel a little bit of energy growing within me. After a rejection from a soon-to-be alpha, I still do not understand how my weak body could endure the bond breaking completely. How could Caleb be so cruel? How could the moon goddess curse me even more in this life? For years all I dreamed of was Caleb being my mate, being my savior from the position the pack placed me, being a person in this world to wh
Alpha Max POV It was early in the morning when I awoke in my office. I lifted my head as papers fell from being stuck to my face. I quickly organized them away and pinched the bridge of my nose. My eyes felt heavy as sleep came very little last night. I tried to focus on pack dealings and project offers but my mind kept drifting back to Kya. Her scent alone has me wanting to head straight to my quarters and discover her secrets. I could feel Artemis itching to see her again. Bringing a prisoner here has never caused a situation like this. What has Vivi done!? Trying to get a grasp of myself I went to my private bathroom in my office to freshen up. As the hot water burned over my large chiseled muscles, I hung my head. My member twitched as my thoughts went to Kya's slim figure. My thoughts drifted to seeing her for the first time laying helplessly in my Jeep. Though her locks were matted I could see a gold glimmer from her long hair, her small body quivering in need of comfort,
Max’s POV Staring at the spot where my father died brought my heart to a deep dark place. “Artemis right now is not the time to reminisce the past, it’s unchangeable and I’ve accepted it,” I told my wolf. “I did not bring you here to reminisce but more to make you remember we are the strongest of strong alphas. If we can conquer our enemies we can help our queen” he replied. “Why do you keep calling her that? She’s a mere omega whom we both know has been a slave her whole life. What could be so special about her? Is she the one?” I asked Artemis curiously. Artemis growled in response telling me our conversation had run its course. As I sat in this forsaken spot I took in deep breaths. I felt shaken from reliving the worst memory of my life. Sighing I took in one more breath and stood. My paws are surrounded by lush grass and small flowers. The beauty of this place truly astounded me compared to the scene I see every time I visit. Death. I started back to the pack house lett
Max’s POV I returned to the pack house and went straight to my office. I mind-linked a maid to bring me some food. Though I probably couldn’t eat, the day is already coming to an end and I need to keep my strength. After a few hours and a small meal, I heard a few knocks at my door. “Enter,” I said blandly laying down the files I was going over. My mood was bitter and angry. “Alpha I brought the informant as requested,” Vivi entered with a slender blonde-haired man. “Sit I have a few questions about the emerald west pack” I ordered them as they walked over to the front of my desk. They took seats across from me and the meeting began. “Issac I need to know everything you learned whilst visiting that pack, especially anything concerning a girl named ‘Kya’” I addressed the informant. “Alpha that pack was like no other I have visited in the past. As I’ve told you previously before we attacked they are brutal mean wolves who kill mercilessly and treat all others beneath them.” He s
Vivis POV I exited Alpha Max’s office after our meeting feeling enraged! How could his wolf be so arrogant yet intelligent at the same time? This raises a few problems I did not expect to face so soon. Leaving the pack house on foot I followed a long trail into the forest. The moon was rising into the sky as night fell upon the earth around me. I gazed up at the magnificent power looming in the sky above as the brisk cool air kissed my cheeks. “Thank you moon goddess” I spoke as I said a blessing to the moon goddess. Continuing along the winding dirt trail I took in the magnificent feel of the earth around me. Pine smell permeated the air while woodland creatures chirped in the midst... After a 30-minute venture through the woods, I reached my destination. With a wave of my hand and muttering a few words a small cabin appeared in the clearing before me. It was nothing special just a small bunker I created for my privacy while residing in this pack. Entering the moss-covered, one
Max’s POV That night… I choose Kya over all else. I desired to be near her and as Alpha of this pack, I get what I desire. I made my way back to the hospital to see her against my better judgment. After returning to the hospital I came into the outer room connected to Kya's treatment room and gazed over at her through the little window. I realized my attraction to this beautiful girl could be dangerous. At that moment something inside compelled me to stay with her though I did not know why. Her little helpless body stared back at me. “Go in” Artemis murmured in my head. Not obeying him but my desires I entered Kya's treatment room. I walked to her bedside not taking my eyes off of her. Her cheeks have become a little fuller, her hair less dull and her lips have color returning to them. -knock knock- A gentle knock came from the viewing room door. I glanced over at the door as the doctor entered. “Any updates on her condition doc?” I immediately asked him looking back at Kya.
Kyas POV I was floating in darkness, feeling severe pain everywhere for quite some time before Athena’s voice came to me. "follow your instinct to the light” she murmured. I let my feet start walking and eventually, everything around me started changing. Blurring into view I could see I was actually on a small dirt trail. Around me, the dark forest is illuminated by full moonlight. I gazed to the sky taking in the glorious view of the moon as it was dancing the night away with all of the stars twinkling and admiring it. ‘This moon's beauty is incomparable to anything else I’ve ever viewed’ I thought to myself feeling lost and unsure of this place. ‘This forest is different than any other. It feels darker and is eerily quiet.’ “Kya welcome” I heard a voice as a large wolf came stepping out from some bushes and trees by the trail. I could barely see her at first, but her white fur grew closer and closer. “Athena!!!” My eyes widened looking directly at my wolf standing before me. “Y
Max’s POV “Calming things the doctor said…” I told beta, Alex. “Well, what do you want alpha? You just keep repeating yourself scratching your chin!” Alex replied. “Goto my quarters and get the lavender candle in the cabinet in the bathroom. Also, stop by the pack store and get the biggest bouquet you can!” I looked Alex dead in the eye “NOW!” ‘I want her to feel calm’ I thought to myself. Anything to get her out of this room. It is devastating watching a young girl so frail before me. I stared at Kya for a long time from the viewing room until Alex returned with my requests. “Alpha you better tell Ben and Scott you requested this stuff! They laughed way too hard at my arrival!” He said over a large bouquet. I chuckled looking at him. The flowers were almost as big as him! “Haha well yeah I’ll get right on that.” I giggled responding to him. “On top of it, I had to carry this thing through the pack as well!!” He held up a pink lavish-looking hair brush disgusted at it. With thre
Kya's POVWe arrived at what looked like a burial ground on the far end of the pack after a long quiet car ride. Something about being around alpha Max has my heart feeling fluttery and uncontrollable. Even Athena is acting weird. Max parked the car and walked around to my door opening it for me to exit. "Follow me, little wolf," Max spoke as he took my hand in his and we walked side by side over to a large opening in the earth. "He died in his wolf form so this is the best we have, if you cannot identify him it is ok Kya I just need to know," Max spoke calmly and cooly in my ear as we approached the grave.Inside the grave lay a partially decayed black and silver spotted wolf. I scanned it closely with my eyes realizing its size alone should have told me right away. "This is the missing gamma..." I whispered covering my mouth with my hand trying to hold back vomit that started bubbling in my stomach. "Thank you," Max spoke quietly as he placed his hands on either side of me and dir
Max's POVThe trip was excruciating as my men carried me home. Being ambushed twice in one night took almost every bit of energy I had, I realized while traveling this was a setup as most of my men agreed all of the wolves had one target.Me.Eager to see Kya I refused to rest traveling home, like a boy with a gift to present I felt gleeful. Capturing Caleb has brought Artemis and me great joy as we traveled home in victory. We proudly returned to the pack and I rushed directly to the pack house. After returning to my pack with our prisoner in tow my leg started healing pretty quickly, entering my quarters I instantly noticed Kya's scent was very faint and almost gone from my room. Looking around my room slowly I notice any sign of Kya has been removed, her clothing is gone, and her bath products too. Artemis started to grow more frustrated as he realized Kya's absence."Vivi!!!!" I boomed through the mind link at Vivi knowing this was probably her doing. "Yes, alpha?" She responded.
Kya's POVVivi charged straight at me without warning, side-stepping I dodged her first attack. Spinning around to face Vivi with my hands raised in front of me I caught Vivi's flying foot that almost connected with my face. Releasing her foot I stepped back but her advances did not come to an end as she lunged forward with a closed fist. This was much more fun than I could have imagined! With no time to focus on anything but Vivi's next attack, I could feel my brain fog clearing. My heart started to feel light again and dare I say it, I was not half bad at this.Drenched in sweat after a couple of hours with Vivi training we stopped to take a break. "Kya you are very very fast, faster than myself I could say with a little more training! I did not know this would be so easy, you are such a fast learner too!" Vivi spoke proudly to me smiling widely as she sat next to me a drank a large quantity of water."I have always wanted to train Vivi I cannot tell you how thankful I am you are do
Kya's POVThe prisoner bellowed with laughter "YOU!" He roared crazily as he started to pace around his cell pointing his finger at me while scratching his head. "Kya who is this man? Was he your old alpha's theta?" Max asked looking back and forth between myself and the prisoner. "He was one of the alpha officials when I was a small child he...." before I could finish the prisoner spoke over me. "KYA? THIS IS THE GIRL? CALEB YOU FOOL!" Zeke screamed from his cell.A response came from a cell at the furthest end of the dungeon "Yessir" followed by maniacal laughing. "Caleb..." I spoke under my breath turning toward his voice. As I went to step in Caleb's direction a large strong hand shot out before me "No” Max's eyes flashed his wolf as he looked deep into my own.'The smell of death was so strong in here how could I have not sensed Caleb's presence?' I asked Athena, to be met with silence. My heart shook with fear and pain as all the previous excitement from this morning disappea
Kya's POVMy mind spun circles as the stress of hearing Caleb being brought here has brought me many unwanted emotions. Thoughts from my childhood started bubbling to the surface as tears silently fell down my pale plump cheeks. As I drifted into slumber my dreams took me away... Scenes started flashing before my eyes. Walking through the forest around age nine I recall Caleb and I coming across each other. After I finished my morning chores I would walk the pack trails to find peace away from my drunken father and avoid the other girls my age who had nothing better to do but harass and attack me any chance they had. "What are you doing out here instead of attending to your chores?" Caleb asked me as he approached a little hidden trail I was walking along. His short chocolate hair was perfectly on his forehead and his mouth made a large grin at me, "My chores are complete, I am just taking a small stroll for some air" I responded quietly bowing to him trying to hide my blushing chee
Caleb's POV Leaving the dungeun in a blind rage I ran as fast as I could out of the pack house. Looking ahead I saw some movement coming from a small wooden shack at the end of the road. ‘I was so focused on confirming Kya’s death how did I miss that!’ I thought to myself staring at the shack as shadows passed by the windows. Hiding behind a nearby tree I warned Charlie through the mind link about the shack and he slowly approached from the rear and hid behind the large tree with me. We observed the area for a few moments noticing no movement outside or around the shack. "Do you think there are any survivors?" I asked Charlie through the link, He responded by walking past me toward the shack. I followed slowly and cautiously. 'Would the dark moon place guards here? Are they coming to claim my pack's land?' I thought as we approached the shack slowly. Charlie nodded at me and went the opposite way around the cabin. Following his lead I went around the other way to check for guards
Caleb’s POV I turned to leave the cabin as Charlie stumbled over the stool and fell face-first onto the ground. “I will return soon” I murmured to him even though he was already snoring. Shutting the door behind me I stood outside the cabin breathing heavily as my head spun from the last few hour's occurrences. Beside the small cabin was a down pine tree I had come here weeks ago and carved a little bench into. This cabin has been a haven for me since childhood, my father being the unpleasant man he was made living with him an absolute nightmare. Even though I was to be next in line for alpha he always treated me as a weak little tag along. Never introduced me to the elders or business partners even though I would plant each evil seed in his head to help him keep our pack afloat. Always pushed me to the side, especially after what he did to my mother… Anger boiled in my veins ‘of course I remember Kya’s mother… She destroyed my family!’ I thought while glancing at the cabin think
Caleb's POV"Caleb we are under attack! The dark moon has infiltrated our pack and is moving in past our borders" My father shouted at me as we both stormed out of the packhouse. 'The dark moon pack devours packs...were doomed.' I could not help thinking about it on our way to the exit. The night was dark and cold leaving an eerie feeling in the air. Our land is one of poverty so attacking us will gain them nothing. It was bound to happen with the pathetic excuse of an Alpha we have. Beta Charlie stood outside the pack house waiting for us to go approach the battle."There are too many of them Alpha if we run now we might survive!" Charlie spoke. "No! No other pack will take us. Not this way!" My father shouted furiously before shifting and heading toward the battle.I followed for a moment then I mind-linked Charlie, "Charlie he made me reject her, your daughter is dead, this pack is not worth our lives." I spoke clearly and sternly."When we reach the battle if you are the smart m
Max’s POVI left the packhouse that night with one task in mind. Finding the man who attacked my home. Finding the pathetic wanna-be alpha who tried to murder Kya. Finding peace for us all. After picking up Caleb’s scent I could not stop Artemis from following him. A small team of elite guards joined me in finding the trader who sent rogues to attack our beloved pack. After traveling for a full day we located the traitor's hideout. The scent led us to a small clearing deep in the forest far away from my territory. Traveling this deep into the forest is not normal for most wolves as all you will find out here are crazed rogues with an unimaginable blood thirst. Ahead a small cabin could be barely seen peeking out of the wood at the edge of the clearing. I stopped my men for a moment to plan our angle of attack. In every battle no matter how big or small you must have a plan for the worst.Splitting my men into two formations we surrounded the hideout easily from the north and south en
