There was no news about Alfred and his family the next day.

All we knew was that his son bailed him out this morning, and they haven't stepped foot in the mansion since the ceremony. Inorder to make things better, I’d told Grandpa to be fair and give them what they wanted, to which he begrudgingly agreed.

“I’ll take care of it.” He said, “Just enjoy your vacation.”

“I sure will.” I said, “But you take care of yourself. We’ll be back in four days.”

He nodded, before something caught his attention. Following his gaze behind my shoulder, I found Enzo talking to my grandmother. She was examining his wound, gently tapping it to see if it was still tender.

As I glanced back at my grandfather, a warm smile claimed his face, “When we came to you, we were praying to God to let us have a granddaughter in our lives. I think God was sorry for us, and gave us a grandson too.”

His words tugged at my heart. This was the same man who questioned if Enzo was the right person for me just mere wee

Enzo and I checked into our hotel at Positano, a small town on the Amalfi coast, officially kick-starting our babymoon. Since I was the one to suggest the idea, I took it upon myself to make all the hotel bookings and itinerary. So when Enzo casually walked into the room only to stop dead in his tracks, I knew that I’d managed to impress him. “Wow.” He said, glancing at me with surprise filled in his eyes, “This looks amazing. I wonder what the view is like.” As we went into the balcony, we were met with a breathtaking view of the coast, with the sea on one side and the bustling town on the other. It was just like what they promised in the hotel pictures. “How did you manage to get us a room here? That too, on such short notice.” I shrugged. “Do you like it?” “I love it.” He said, pecking me on the lips. “I can’t wait to get out there and have some fun on the beach.” “About that.” I said, grinning. “I’ve booked us a private boat ride at sunset. And we have about three hours to

For dinner, I made a reservation at La Sponda, a Michelin star restaurant. The place was candle-lit with the view of the sea - an entire package of a romantic dinner. Enzo was pleased with my choice as he sat at our table, looking dapper in his crisp white shirt paired with tailored trousers. He looked nothing short of ravishing tonight. As for me, I settled for a simple summer dress in pink, hoping Enzo picked up on the clue. Once we were done placing the order, the waiter asked, “Shall I get a bottle of wine, ma’am?”“Yes, please. A bottle of-” “No, actually. We’re good.” Enzo said, handing him the menu. “Why? Don’t you want some?” “I’ll give you company on your virgin Pina Colada.” He said, “By the way, there’s news from the UK.” I raised my brows, “Okay?” “Raymond got the contract.” I breathed a sigh of relief, “Thank God.” I said, “All that hustle… well, it worked in our favour afterall.” “Yes, and he asked me to thank you specifically.” The waiter came back with our fo

We scrambled inside the bedroom like two love-sick teenagers. “Careful there.” Enzo said as I fell back on the bed, dragging him by the shirt with me. “I’ll be fine.” I said, pulling him in for a kiss. Enzo planted his hands on either side of my head, delving deeper into my mouth with his. His kisses were hungry, yet gentle. There was always a softness with his touch. He never did anything to claim me, to make me feel like I belonged to someone else. Everything he did, he did it with care and respect. And that’s what I loved the most about him. He nibbled at my lower lip, giving it a gentle suck, as though he was playing the bigger game of seducing me. But I didn’t need to be seduced. I was already insanely turned on. I was yearning for him, his love and all I needed was for him to take me. Show me how much he loved me. “Enzo, please.” I said, “Can you get rid of your clothes already?” He sighed, pulling away from me completely. He started unbuttoning his shirt, suppressing a s

The next few days passed like a breeze. Enzo and I explored Positano, travelled to the Amalfi town, and came back to Naples to spend the evening there. And then, it was finally time to head back to Sicily. We would be joining Grandma and Grandpa for breakfast before we flew back home to the states. “Did you guys have fun?” Grandma asked as she sipped on her orange. “Oh, yes. It was a great trip. All the credit goes to Cassie here.” Enzo said, “She even planned a surprise gender reveal for me.” “Really?” Her face beamed. “Yes, Grandma, it’s going to be a girl.” “Another one?” Grandpa said, pleasantly surprised. “Damn.” “Don’t be like that, Albert!” Grandma said, slapping his hand. “No, I’m delighted. I can’t wait to spoil her.” He grinned, “It’s Enzo I’m worried about. It’s not easy having pretty daughters.”We broke into a laugh, and that was when someone approached the table. As I looked up, I realized that it was Axon. “Hello, everyone.” He said, “May I join you?” “Of cour

“All’s looking great, Cassandra.” The doctor said as she stepped away from my belly, that has now grown into the size of a giant watermelon. Or bigger, actually. “Nothing to worry about. Everything’s going fine and we’ll be able to get your daughter into this world in two weeks, on your expected date of delivery.” I grinned, looking at Enzo with excitement. But he seemed tense. “I can’t wait.” “Yeah.” He said, “Anything we should know about? Any extra care in these last few days?” “Nothing apart from the usual. Look for fetal movements, eat and rest well. You know the drill.” She said, “Don’t worry, Mr Deluca. You’re doing everything right.” “Thank you, doc.” A few minutes later, we were in Enzo's car making our way home. He was driving me, and while I tried to make conversation with him, he limited his responses to monosyllables. His eyes were focused on the road, but his mind was elsewhere. “Enzo?” I said, “Are you okay?” “Yes,” He frowned, stealing a quick glance at me, “Wh

I picked a red dress for dinner tonight, a classic choice that one can’t go wrong with. By eight o’clock, Enzo and I reached the restaurant, right on time. Enzo held my hand and walked up to the reception, checking our reservation. “Hello, we have a reservation under the name Trent Dalton at 8.” Enzo said. The receptionist was a small, young woman, who was clearly not used to seeing handsome men in her profession. Her cheeks flushed as she spoke to Enzo. “Y-yes. Mr Dalton’s already here. Let me guide you to your seat.” I couldn’t help but be amused at her. She was clearly dazzled. Who could blame her? Enzo looked dapper in his three piece all black suit. Luckily for me, I picked out a classic red dress for dinner tonight, complementing him. As we approached our table, I saw a lovely couple conversing with each other. As soon as they saw us, they gave us a huge grin. “Mr DeLuca.” Trent said, offering his hand, “Nice to finally meet you.” “You too, Mr Dalton.” Enzo said, and put h

It only took three days for my fear to come true. I was writing an email on my laptop when I heard the door bang shut. I shuddered at the sound, and feared if there was an intruder. But I quickly heard Enzo’s voice. It was evident that he was pissed. “Fucking hell.” Enzo said as he stormed into our bedroom, his phone pressed to his ear. He had an irritated frown on his face, and he quickly mumbled a sorry my way. I put my laptop away and sat up straight, noticing the file he threw on the table. “Get me everything you can find on this. I’m letting him have his way with this. He’s acting like a bratty child that was denied his fucking candy.” As Enzo cut the call, he looked toward me. “You were right.” “About what?” “That bastard Trent.” He said, “He’s messing with my UK branch, booking me for tax evasions.” “What?” I said, confused. Enzo flew out to the UK two days ago, and yet, there was no news of his return. His one day trip was prolonged to three days, and now, he was saying there could be more delay. “The damn paperwork, Cassie. Nothing is delivered on time here.” he said, “I can tell that Trent is doing this on purpose. Such a petty loser.” I sighed, thinning my lips at him as I watched his distraught face on facetime. He was sitting in a cafe, having lunch. “Any news about when you will return?” I asked. Kelly stayed with me for two days, but she had to head back home today. Although I was not scared of sleeping alone, it would be better if I had some company. “I have my flight ticket booked for this evening.” He said, “I’m just praying that nothing else comes up before I get on the plane.” I smiled, “And what if something happens when you’re flying and you have to go back?” “Well, fuck it. I took a step back in astonishment. How did he come here? How did he find me? “From the look on your face, I’m assuming you remember me.” He said, “It’s a shame we have to meet like this. Why don’t we grab a bite together, Cassandra?” I let out a shaky breath, “I’m sorry, but I have to go.”I tried to step away from him and walked ahead, but he stood in my way again. Gone was his smile and a serious look claimed his face. He was blocking the door at this point. “I can understand why you’re so reluctant to meet me.” He said, “But if you’ll let me explain, I can-” “What is there to explain?” I said, “You want me to know why you left Enzo? No, thank you. I’m better off not hearing your excuses.” “I am not trying to make any excuses anymore.” he said, “I’m here to fix things.” “I’m afraid you’re a little too late.” I said, “So whatever it is you want to say, I’m not interested. “He what?” I echoed in surprise. I couldn’t understand why he suddenly wanted to make contact with Enzo now. Him reaching out to me in Miami, and now this, none of it made sense. He abandoned him all those years ago without any regret, and he had no right to make an appearance now, especially when everything was finally going well for Enzo. “He reached out to me outside the hospital yesterday, explaining his situation.” Grandpa said, “He regrets what he did. He wants to make amends now, and wants to meet Enzo. He was wondering when we could arrange that.” I scoffed, “What situation? Enzo doesn’t want to meet him.” His brows went up. “You told him?” I sighed, “I didn’t tell him anything explicitly, but Enzo told me that he wants nothing to do with his family that abandoned him.” I said, “Grandpa, I get it. I know we should tell him at one point, but can we wait for a few more days? I mean, things are finally going well for him. I don’t want anyone to take that away from him right

Cassie’s POV I watched as Enzo gently took her into his arms, as though she was the most delicate thing he was holding. His eyes were glassy, his face twisting with a mix of emotions. “She looks gorgeous.” He said, coming to sit beside me. “When did she come out?” “About two hours ago.” I said, “You didn’t miss much.” He let out a bitter laugh, “I missed everything, Cassie. This was the day I’ve been dreaming about for months.” He said, clasping his eyes shut, “How did it go?” “It went surprisingly fine.” I said, “It was a normal vaginal delivery. She made me work quite a bit, but she came out crying like a healthy little baby, so it was worth the hell she put me through. Oh, and yes. She also tore my vagina almost till my anus, so we might have to abstain from having sex for a few more weeks than usual.” “Oh, god.” He said, “Was it painful?” “I couldn’t tell.” I said, “But I guess I will when the anesthesia wears off. Childbirth is honestly so taxing. I’m just glad it’s over.

“Another two days?” I asked Peter, my colleague who was helping me take care of my shit at the UK office. “There’s no chance in hell I’m missing my flight this evening.” “Enzo, you’re going to land in a bigger mess if you ignore this right now.” He sighed from the other end of the call. “It’s just a matter of-” “I’ve had enough of this, Peter. We didn’t do anything wrong. I shouldn’t have to sit here and explain that to anyone. This is what you were hired for. This is your job. You better fix this shit.” “Enzo, that’s not fair.” “If you think so, I won’t hesitate before passing on this work to someone else.” I said and cut the call. Fucking hell. No wonder Trent shit all over my place. My employees here were incompetent beyond redemption. They were the reason I was in this position right now. I immediately called Mark then. As soon as he picked the call, I said, “Mark. Get me Lester Lockwood. I need him to deal with this shit in the UK.” “Lester?” Mark asked in confusion, “I t

Enzo’s POV I just got out of my phone call with Peter, my colleague, as the bill arrived. Throwing some notes on the table, I left the cafe. Speaking to Peter never really helped with my mood. He always had just bad news to give. I’d been following his instructions the past couple of days, and yet, there was no progress about the issue. It felt like we kept going in circles with his plans. But I was so exhausted with this that I couldn’t bother hiring someone new to fix this. It was too late for this. So all I did was pray that I could get onto that flight this evening. I was about to head into my hotel across the cafe when I thought I saw someone familiar. To my dismay, it seemed like he was waiting for me, as he started walking toward me. As he came closer, I recognised who he was. “Trent Dalton.” I said, “What a pleasant surprise.” He took off his sunglasses and folded them, giving me a smirk, “You seem to be in good spirits, Enzo. Surprising.” I shrugged, “Yeah. All of t
