[Nowo's POV]

While conversing with Helios, we suddenly heard someone clearing his throat, grabbing our attention. Usually, I wouldn't be concerned about being caught with Helios, but in this particular situation, I wasn't so sure.

Moha found us just as Helios was holding my hand, checking if the scar he caused during our training had healed completely. I could sense Moha's disapproval in his stares. Quickly pulling my hand away from Helios, I greeted my best friend, "Hey," with a smile.

I felt the awkward tension between the two of them, making me extremely uncomfortable. Helios seemed to understand my discomfort, offering a smile and saying, "I'm going now. Thank you for your time, Nowo," before leaving us.

This was exactly what I hoped wouldn't happen. They seemed like dynamite and fire, a combination that needed separation, or else a massive explosion would follow.

Approaching Moha, I pleaded, "Please, don't be mad about it."

"Who says I am mad?" he asked.

"Well, obviously, y

[Narrator's POV] Inside the protective magic of their guardians, Fraise stared at the familiar creatures and remembered the time they faced similar foes at the hunters' mountain. "Raiden and I have fought these creatures before, together with Moha and Nowo," she informed Blaze. The numerous Aqrabuamelus, known for their poison, presented a challenging obstacle. Fraise knew that defeating them required a strong range of light, something her guardian couldn't provide. "Well, I guess they do have some kind of weakness?" Blaze wondered. Fraise nodded and said, "Yes. We need a strong range of light to defeat them. But I'm afraid my guardian couldn't provide that kind of magic." "I can," Blaze's guardian interrupted. "What? Really?" Blaze was shocked to learn about her guardian's capabilities. She had no idea about the extent of Selene's powers. "But how?" she asked. "I honestly haven't tried it before, and I think I would need a lot of time to concentrate on calling this newly disco

[Narrator’s POV] Meanwhile, the fight in the dark realm intensified. Fraise suffered severe injuries, and Blaze, despite her own pain, tried her best to assist. Blaze's wound limited her attacks, frustrating her. "Damn it!" Blaze cursed. Her desire to help Fraise conflicted with her physical limitations. Fraise approached them, suggesting, "I think it would be better if you guys continuously head to the castle." Blaze almost shouted in disbelief, "Are you insane? Are you expecting me to leave you here?" Fraise shook her head, weakly stating, "I'm telling you what is the best thing to do that will benefit our mission." "Do you really think that I am selfish enough to do that?" Blaze fretted. "We have no time to argue about it, Blaze. Don't be so stubborn," Fraise responded. "Let's just hope that Selene would activate her magic before I run out of strength to fight." She shifted her gaze to the approaching Aqrabuamelus. "Fin, now!" Fraise shouted, and Fin pulled Blaze away from t

[Narrator's POV] Blaze finally reached the dark realm. She started sneaking around the place trying to look for the plant they needed to get. It feels odd for her how she couldn't feel any kind of danger around her. She walked through the gloomy balcony and then she thought that finding this plant was kind of difficult due the numerous doors on her both sides. In addition to that, she thinks that checking each door would be risky. "I need to think about an effective strategy to locate it." She uttered to herself. Meanwhile, Raiden and Jack almost reached the dark realm and then a strong range of light suddenly caught their attention. They both quickly headed to it because they have a strong feeling that the female defenders are there. They manage to keep their silent movement and while on their way to the place where an explosion of light happened, they saw a bunch of wet looking dead centaurs. "Woah. Did they cause this mountain of dead centaurs?" Jack wondered. Raiden shrugge

  • Lockers Orphanage   PART SIXTY-EIGHT (2)

[Nowo's POV] I knew myself that I had a point. I mean, if taking the plant from a dangerous place was just a task wherein he wanted them to learn, then he should've made it a lot easier not letting them face such a terrifying situation. But then, at some point, I could somehow understand what he was trying to do. That in order to fix something, then you must be ready to take a risk and try. I think that is what I'm lacking. That I am too afraid of trying, that's why I couldn't reach my goal, which is to fix the relationship between all of us. This is his way of creating a peaceful environment and a strong foundation of people. An idea that never crossed my mind. Alasdair is indeed a great king. He would always be a person that I will look up to. It also made me think that maybe Moha is more capable of leading us, just like his father. I know I shouldn't be envious towards him, but how can I stop myself from getting that kind of feeling? Everyone are eagerly waiting for Blaze, Fra

[Nowo's POV] Arphen stood up and began to create a portal. It only meant that the four of them had already reached the foot of the mountain. At this very moment, all of us were excited to see them once again. A few hours had passed, and then the portal that was cast and opened by Arphen began to lighten up. A few moments after that, three people came out of it, including Blaze, Raiden, and Jack. I could see a range of emotions through their eyes and on their faces. I started to have a bad feeling about the disappointing look on their faces, but I didn't want to attract any negativity at this moment because, essentially, it wasn't the right time for it. I badly wanted to stay positive to lead them well, so I kept hoping that another one would come out from the portal. But then my hopes fell and began to shatter into pieces the moment Arphen closed the portal. "What are you doing, Arphen? Let us wait for Fraise," I asked him, trying to be as calm as possible. They didn't give me a r

[Narrator's POV] Out of the four defenders sent from the dark realm, only three of them made it back to the base. Until now, the true reason behind Fraise's sudden disappearance hasn't been discussed by any of the three. "Can any of you tell us what really happened to your comrade?" Alasdair asked. "How I wish I knew something about that," Raiden uttered. "But then, Jack and I were a few steps behind them, fighting with some sort of evil creature who kept on adding up." "That's right, headmaster. Blaze and Fraise were the only ones to reach the dark lord's chamber," Jack responded. Alasdair's gaze went to Blaze's direction, and he started to ask her, "How about you? Is there something you wanted to tell us?" Blaze remained dumbfounded. She's not keeping her mouth shut on purpose, but it's just that she wasn't ready to spill any stories about what happened, especially because she's blaming herself for what happened to Fraise. "Come on, Blaze. You need to speak up," Raiden urged.

PART 70[Narrator's POV]After the defenders had prepared for the impending battle, they regrouped at the training ground. Their determination to defeat the dark lord and his servants, especially Raiden, who had lost the woman he loved, was palpable.“Um, Raiden,” Blaze approached the guy who was in the middle of his training. He was trying to concentrate on hitting the small spot on the wall, a few meters away from him. He didn’t utter any response, which left the female defender down.Blaze thought that maybe at some point, Raiden wanted to blame her for Fraise’s death, that she should be the one who died instead. She knew it isn’t right for her to have such a negative thought, especially during this time when they were just about to face their enemies. She couldn't also deny the fact that if only she became a much braver person at that moment, then maybe she could have saved her comrade. But it's indeed too late for her to think about the flaws that have happened. In an attempt to

[Nowo’s POV]Even though the light entered me without causing any pain, I was still scared and thought it had killed me. Endings are indeed terrifying, and if someone were to claim they aren't afraid of something as natural as death, I wouldn't believe them, for there is nothing more frightening. I couldn't recall what happened after that, but I sensed something peculiar about it. It's strange how I can still hear noises, feel the hands of creatures taking me somewhere.I attempted to open my heavy eyes slowly, finding myself in the usual gloomy room I'm accustomed to waking up in. I wondered if this could be my funeral, and my soul was the only thing capable of moving and seeing. "I'm glad you're awake," someone beside me uttered. I tilted my head and saw Arphen smiling at me."What just happened?" I wondered."You passed out," he quickly responded."Oh, um." I could still feel my body aching from what happened, but with all the strength left in me, I forced my body to stand up. "Tha

Like a tragic story, my path didn't end well. I fought in a way that I believed was my best, only to find out that nothing was sufficient. Even one's true self couldn't serve as a ticket to alter fate. The memories of that war are still vivid in my mind, from the moment we prioritized our duties as defenders over everything, including our hearts, to that specific instance when he finally did what he needed to do to save the land. The profound sorrow visible in his eyes remains unforgettable and painful. Although we never had a chance to bid a proper goodbye, at least we knew we did our best for what is right. After that, my messy but joyful life seemed to come to an end. It feels like everything happened just yesterday, yet I know it's been a long time since the terrifying war with the dark realm. I can now feel my entire body lying on a soft bed, which I guess is made of swan feathers. The sweet floral scent in the air suggests daffodils. My hands grip the smooth texture of their ste

[Nowo's POV]"I didn't know you had that kind of courage to betray us," Algea told me.She became mad at me because of what I did to the dark lord. With the use of the queen's soul, I tried to harness her power to cleanse the evilness inside my father's heart. I wasn't even finished when she suddenly entered my father's chamber and pulled my hair. The dark lord woke up, seeing her pointing a knife at my throat."What do you think you are doing?" he asked her."Why? Is your heart getting soft now? This defender is a traitor!" she exclaimed."Kill me so that you won't be able to use that damn stone," I teased her.She pulled my hair tighter, and then she said, "Who are you to order me around?""I'm the daughter of the queen whom you were envious of and the dark lord whom you loved the most but cannot have," I teased her once again."Do you think you can take all the bad spirit inside your father's body?" she asked me. "Let me tell you something. No black witch has the kind of weak power

[Nowo's POV]After they took her for some treatment, me and Lane went to our room to finally take some rest. We only have a few hours to spend here before we go back to the dark realm, like what I have promised to my father. Algea let me drink a potion, which will soon take me back to that place, like a bubble that pops out from this base."I'm leaving everything to you, Lane," I told her."Can I just go with you?" She sadly asked me.I started to lower my gaze and took a deep sigh, "I won't let them have anyone that is precious to me ever again, and I don't want your life to be in danger," I told her."But, Nowo," I didn't let her finish her sentence."Here," I interrupted while handing her a bottle of potion. "Drink it, and you'll be free from your contract.""What do you mean?" She asked me, stammering."You have to take this potion so that you'll stay alive no matter what happens to me," I explained to her.Lane started crying, and that punched my heart so damn hard. [NOWO's POV]Like the flower sprouted in a small amount of land placed at the center of the continuously flowing river, I have no other places to go to either. Am I ready to fulfill the mission I just found out from where I was destined to die?But far from before, I can clearly understand my purpose in this land now. Those questions are just a part of a normal Nowo who never ran out of complaints and questions in life. Now that I am facing him, not in a safe place but his dangerous place, I know I should never think about going back to our base."What brings you here, my daughter?" One of her hands was placed on her back, and the other one continuously waved at me while she was also lowering her gaze. She almost bumped into me, but then I stopped her tiny body with my index finger. "Oops, sorry, dear," she uttered."It's okay. Will you please raise your head up?" [Nowo’s POV]That was the first time I spent almost the whole gloomy day reading only one book. It might not be for me, but the thing is, it captured my attention. What was written inside, as well as the kind of helpful information it provides, makes me want to put my time into it. It's pretty hard to admit, but I find myself really weird these past few days. I've been so busy thinking about everyone’s betrayal towards me, and I knew at that moment that my decision to just end the darkness is at its final level. I know it is kind of unusual for me to confess it, but I don’t feel like ending someone’s life anymore, even if it’s the dark lord. Given the fact that he is my father, won’t change anything. It’s just that I want nothing but peace, and killing will never be a part of it.“Lane, have you...” I was right about to talk to her and paused until I realized that she’s not here with me, and this is the first time I felt completely alone. No Moha, no Lane, no one that I can possibly

[Narrator's POV]Meanwhile, Helios noticed the unusually quiet person beside him. He creased his forehead and started questioning her, "Cordelia, are you alright?"Not only that she's unbelievably silent, but she was also lowering her head to the point that her chin almost reached her chest. Helios is unable to take a peek at her face because it is hidden, and the dark lord's chamber is too dark as well."Hey, kid," Helios uttered after tapping the female defender's shoulder lightly.Helios found it more strange when her body suddenly shakes, as if she was either crying or laughing. A few seconds after that, Cordelia raises her head and stares at him while flashing a wide smile on her face."Am I being weird if I say that I'm completely thrilled and fired up right now, Helios?" She responded. Her voice was too loud for the rest of the defenders to hear her."Are you being serious right now?"
