"Mom you are crying." Her voice was tiny and confused as she stared curiously at her mom's tear-stained face.
She shook her head, despite her welling tears.
"No, I'm not." Then bent down so she was at eye level with her, while the little girl innocently gazed back at her mother. "No matter what you see, do not make any sound, you get me?"
Her big eyes darted to her father's, who was nursing the gun wound on his leg as blood flowed from it seamlessly. Noticing her eyes on him, He managed a smile for her benefit.
"Is daddy going to be okay?"
"Yes baby, yes he will be fine." Her mother coaxed.
"Remember if anything happens." She paused kissing her forehead, "Call Uncle Young, he will know what to do sweetheart."
"Would you come to get me?" She glanced at her mother with trust in her eyes.
"I will."
She lied.
Seconds after, as she peeked from the wardrobe, Three men stormed into the house with rifles.
She watched them hurl her pregnant mother across the stairs, who had stood protectively in front of her husband, her head colliding with the hardwood and splitting into two, her brains pouring out, shuddered at the sound of each gunshot fired at her father's forehead repeatedly but she stayed still.
Her heart refused to believe what her brain already knew.
She stayed in there, in the dark wardrobe, shivering, her eyes wide with fear and teary. A newly orphaned 7 years old, armed with just a paper and on it was scribbled a number of an uncle that was talked about so much but never visited, hoping that her mom will stand up and come get her as she promised.
Chapter 01|Thy shall not kill Jasmine rolled her eyes as Kolade's widow screamed, wailing and thrashing on the floor, her four years old son beside her, moping at her in absolute confusion. Then seconds later, He becomes engrossed in glancing at the casket oblivious to the reality, that the man he calls daddy was lying in there. Jasmine hated two things intensely in her life amongst others. Being emotional and faking being emotional and as she noticed the whimpers of tears, the fake sobs, and overly pitched moans, she could tell that almost everybody who looked teary was dying to just get their damn act over with. Everyone knew Kolade's wife would have thrust a knife into his chest and murdered him in cold blood, one of these days if one of their assignments which had gone horribly wrong courtesy of the dead man, had not. Aside from being an unapologetic cheat, according to rumors spiraling in the Natives,
Chapter 02|Please try not to die "You are doing it again?" She started, rolling her eyes after some minutes of silence. "What?" He asked giving her his perfected confused expression but Jasmine still sees through it all the time. "Stalling. Before making me do a damn hard, high-risk assignment that none of the numerous men in the native can pull off." He sighed, closing his eyes. "You know who killed Kola right?" She smirked. "Now, this is the fun part about my job." "Jesus. Jasmine, you scare me when you talk like that." He said grinning at her. "It makes business easier and admitting you like it, won't exactly make you a monster through the uncle of the year award is way far from your reach since the day you taught me how to use a gun." She whispered, also grinning. He nudged
Chapter 03|Achilles heel She smiled instead, bending to Grant him access to her cleavages, distracting him. At least, he would die, seeing something beautiful, she thought with disdain. Grabbing the blade at her side, and then holding his hand, she inched closer to his ear. "What will daddy do to this bad girl?" She asked smiling as his warm blood hit her face then she shook her head in disgust standing up to clean her face with his mattress, she cleaned the razor next free from her prints, just in case, and spared a glance at the escorts who stared at her gobsmacked, obviously trying to process what had happened. She grinned. As if on cue, one of the men from The Native came in with one of the girls who was originally supposed to be with the murdered man. While the girls just sat on the bed, too shocked to move, their eyes almost bulging from their eyes sockets.
Chapter 04|Playlist from hell " I don't need any break, if I ain't fighting, if I ain't in any adrenaline deriving activity, then I feel lifeless." Her voice rose even higher with each word. "Being on a break makes me lifeless!" "Well forgive me, for trying to introduce normality once again into your psychopathic lifestyle," he shouted, his voice booming and echoing in the courtyard. "You are acting like a freak." There was remorse in His eyes seconds later. "Jas, you know I didn't mean that." He stated, trying to hold her hand. Her eyes hardened and she took three steps back nodding with a smile. "Maybe I am a freak, a monster that derives pleasure from watching people's blood on the floor, did I also tell you that these days I crave the metallic scent of blood? and just maybe I would have appreciated my birthday if it came with a fucking killing spree but as you feel all f
Chapter 05|An eye for an eye She ran into the house, locking herself in her room, and then fell on the bed with a thud. Pretending that her uncle was in his room, snoring lightly she slept off. At midnight, she woke up, and then she sobbed into her pillow till the stream of daylight illuminated her form. *** Jasmine slides down the pole, with the skill of an expert. She had practiced pole dancing when she had once acted out as a stripper on one of her numerous assignments. While she danced under the leering ogling eyes of all the hot-blooded men in the vicinity She couldn't help but wonder why although she hasn't practiced for a while now and it was supposed to hurt, which it did. Her movement was more graceful, her steps more fluid, her body so flexible. Her lips were curved into a sly seductive grin as she flashed the men her pants and they all went wild with want while she reveled in the control she had over the
Chapter 06|I'm the Native, the Native is me .She was almost scared he had passed out, his poker face schooled expression was still on, his lips pressed in a tight line. None of her moves shook him and with each second that passed, while she watched his passive almost bored expression grow, She also grew desperate, angry, and then grunting she gave up exiting the stage. He was immune to her body, dead to her charms. So what next? She thought hurling her lampstand against the wall angrily later that night. *** "Anything?" She impatiently asked Chucks, whose eyes were fixated on his computer. He didn't reply to her, as the clack-clack of the computer showed he was busy. She studied the rows and rows of computers in the team's tech room, in need of something to do rather than impatiently bugging Chucks. "He is almost non-existent until he became Governor. No scandals, no
Chapter 07|The ruled rather than the ruler Jasmine traced the picture of her uncle's picture with her dad laughing while sitting beside each other on the floor. It was her father's 8th year birthday and there has certainly not been a party because in their hands were guns, their body was sweaty from practice and she could almost imagine both boys rolling on the floor, playing like kids were meant to and poking fun at each other. Acting normal. She chuckled lightly even as she dropped the picture to the side and a tear dropped on the next picture she picked up. It was still that of her uncle and Dad on the same day but beside them was her grandfather, they looked nothing like the two children who had goofy smiles that were so wide and even comical. In place of their goofiness was just pure stoicism, their eyes didn't shine with pure delight and more importantly, they didn't look like they knew what childhood tasted like.
Chapter 08|Power reinsertion Jasmine rolled her eyes, fed up with the nonchalant chatter at the back by two of the men while she tried to explain what their weekly routine was going to be like and who was in charge of what. "Obinigwe!" She shouted, calling out the name of the man who was the loudest between the two and the most audacious. He squared his chest as he left his seat, walking towards her and straightening his posture to his six feet something inches, he looked down at her. "Nwanya, when I was serving in the Navy, you were still an infant suckling on her mother's bosom," He started disrespectfully, scorn in his tone, "So don't shout my name that loud, ever." Jasmine knew he had been wanting to tell her this for a long time and that was why he had tried to attract her attention with his chatter. "Obinigwe, do you know who you are talking to like that?" Chidi asked, se
So Good day to everyone of you reading. I'm done with lipsticks and gun hence I present you book 2 of the Lipstick series. It is a sequel and I'll be starting to write that soon. For now this is a blurb: Lipsticks and rings (Happily never Afters) Jasmine and Taiwo's relationship had started with a contract that was solely just based on sex but it had ended with the both of them realizing just how much they felt for each other and now they are as happy as they can be. What could possibly go wrong? One guess. Everything. One secret from Taiwo's past comes barreling down and haunting the new love they were trying to create. Now add in a marriage proposal and a break-up, hurtful words being lashed at each other and a love triangle things are going to get real shaky for the couple as they both are going to be tested on the grounds of the love they claim to have for each other.
Chapter 072|GoodbyeJasmine smiled uneasily at the unfamiliar faces she met in what looked like a frat-house dormitory, who looked nothing like normal school children if their moustache was anything to go by. Deciding not to raise alarm until she has confirmed Chucks was fine and well, she followed one of the acne faced teenagers that had found her at the gate of the boarding school, confused and worried as to why the school administration denied being aware of anybody like Chucks in their school, and had told her he knew where Chucks was while making a mental note to hit her speed dial and call on one of her security guards if she suspected any foul play. She cringed at the torn dirty curtain while clutching her purse closer to her as she stepped into the dimly-lit sitting room. She all but leapt to where Chucks sat, her face glowing with pure joy but stopped when she got to where he was.“What are you doing here?” she narrowed her gaze at Kehinde who just walked into the room and th
Chapter 71|Stay Her eyes were trained on him as she cocked the gun pointing it at her head. "Be careful of what you choose to tell me, Taiwo else I promise you I would blow my brains right away and you'll have to live with the guilt that you're the reason why I'm dead." "Why are you doing this, Jasmine?" "Because you won't tell me the truth if I don't so the clock is ticking, Taiwo. Did you know?" Both their gaze clashed in the room as she placed her finger threateningly on the trigger. 5 days ago Jasmine smiled as Taiwo held onto her even with his eyes closed as she tried to slip out of his bed. “Stay,” he huskily mumbled into her ear making her groan as she wondered how a girl was supposed to say no to such a sexy throaty bedroom voice that turned her brains to mush. “You don’t play fair,” she complained pouting even as his arms wound around her waist and lined her back against his groin so she felt his erection and moaned. “And so tempting but sadly I would have
Chapter 070|Home to her "Love is knowing that the person you have that feeling for just might not be perfect, learning the ugly, the messy, the heartbreaking, the scandalous and still not able to feel differently about that same person." Her breath hitched as she told herself again and again not to have hope, not to get all excited. Not to think he was talking about her, them. "The picture of the butterfly, I can't look at it now without remembering your own crazy interpretation. It hurts so much." Her eyes met his. "So you brought it down?" She asked because that was the right, sanest thing to do unlike her who had made an unhealthy habit of strolling around Surulere like a psycho, her legs digging into the mud and her eyes welling with tears. "Yes, I removed it off the wall." Then he stood up, watching her expression as he walked towards her while she just stared. "I took it upstairs, just opposite my bed, so it was the first thing I saw when I woke up and the last when
Chapter 069|Lover of the yearJasmine opened the door with a smile on her face which fell the minute she noticed the person on the other side. "Why are you here and how do you know I live here?" "How are you doing?" Jasmine smiled a bit as she walked out of the threshold allowing him to walk in. "Good." He held her hand and she shrugged it off. "You have 5 minutes to say whatever you have to say. Like I told you before we have nothing to talk about but if you must take my time and yours make it snappy." He nodded and realising how easily he had made everything intense, he looked away, his eyes now on the wallpaper She wanted to kiss the frown off his face, take off his jacket and tell him just how much she missed with and how surreal it feels to have him in her house, with her but she didn't. She just stared coldly at him, taking a seat adjacent to his thankfully for once sticking to her rationality and not getting her hopes up. For all she knew, he just
Chapter 068|Home is not a placeHe gave her a little unsure smile. "Are you sure because well, you always saw something in me that no one else did." He held her hand. "Nothing feels the same without you anymore." "This is the best decision for everyone, trust me." "Is it? The team is moving, I mean the only home you truly know, your memories with Sir Young resides there, your short but helluva impressive speeches were made in the courtyard of those homes and everything you truly hold dear is in there and I'm being whisked off to a boarding school? And you think that is the best thing?" "Sir Young would always say that home is not a place but in here," she touched the right side of her chest. "That's why wherever you go and whatever you do, it doesn't change how and what I think of you. You'll always be home to me, I'll choose you again and again and again if need be because that's what family would do." "Do you think Sir Young would have approved if he was alive?" "He w
Chapter 067|A freak"But what if I can't rid her of her urge to kill and she can't quit the business or __"Bayo stood up. "Who said anything about you ridding her of the urge to kill. You can't do that for her, she has to make that decision herself besides don't be too sure you still have a woman waiting for you to come to your senses at whatever pace convenient to you." He shook his head amused. "Besides even if she wants to leave all she has known all her life because of you, your track record of being an ass only makes her truly foolish at decision making just like you. Of all the girls in the world Taiwo, you just had to fall for the leader of an outfit. Classical." And then he was walking out leaving Taiwo behind with a goofy grin that soon transformed into a panic-stricken one as he immediately reach for his phone.***She flipped through the tabloids she had bought down the road against her better judgement, Taiwo's picture splashed on the front cover the only thing she cared
Chapter 066|A criminal"How is Jasmine?" Taiwo's steel like gaze was set on the blank wall as he clenched his jaw not knowing what Bayo was playing at but not currently in the mood to deal with it. Going to work every day was tough enough, just gaping at Jasmine's cubicle which was still untouched like a total loser and taking it out on his assistants and work made him completely drained, angry and tired? He didn't want to deal with discussing her, he didn't want to open his mouth and say her name because then the pain in his heart would feel real, and with reality comes fear. He was stricken with fright that he just might never be able to hear that name again without feeling his insides squeezing. "Last I heard about her, she was fine." He managed to say in a tone that suggested he was both uninterested and not willing to discuss Jasmine. "Why have you only been hearing about her and not from her?" He scoffed, giving Bayo a disbelieving glare and sighing, he walks to
Chapter 065|The ghost of itTaiwo finds himself pushing yet another faceless woman off his body. The third in five days. "Just go." He ordered, opening her bag and placing a filled leaflet of a chequebook to her and stands up expecting her to hurriedly leave but he was taken aback by her voice. "Why?" None of them ever speak to him. Ever. It was precise and spelt out. Sex. Money. Nothing in-between. And he regretted not sticking to that routine with Jasmine, no he should have not neglected his instinct and would have stayed the heck away from her and now, he was suffering the consequences with this insufferable ache around his chest he couldn't shake off regardless of how hard he tried, the reason why he couldn't be with any woman, why he went to work and found himself gazing at her empty cubicle not knowing two things if he'll ever get rid of the feeling of expecting her to be there magically raising her brow at him because he was staring like nothing had happened, a sassy s
