Damien lay in bed with his eyes shut tight enough that they formed lines around his eyes. He had been trying for almost half an hour to fall asleep, but it felt like everything was reminding him of how he felt when Lila stared down at him. He shook and stirred in bed until he finally sat upright in bed.

"I have to do something about this," he murmured to himself as he got out of bed and changed out of his pyjamas. He knew that if he stressed his body enough, he could sleep easily, so he went down to the gym in the basement and began to run the treadmill. He felt tired after a while, but he knew it was not enough to make him fall asleep. He lifted some weights, and then, when he knew he felt a bit exhausted, he got up to rest. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw her eyes staring back at him with so much intensity.

THE NEXT DAY

Damien got out of bed very early, so he could not just fall asleep as easily, and his subconscious had kept him awake for longer, so he thought he would be a

"Let me get this straight," Sam said, jumping down from the stool he had positioned himself on."Get what straight," Damien said almost, gritting his teeth together. He regretted asking him; he wished that Sam could just answer the question and let it go instead of trying to make a big deal out of it. A teasing expression climbed his face, and he knew he would not get out of this one so easily."You are asking me how you can know if you like a third party, isn't it?" Sam asked. He was still trying to control himself, but he was 100 per cent sure that Damien was asking about himself. "A friend of mine is asking, and I just wanted to know." "A friend of yours? I thought I was your only friend." Of course, Sam knew that Damien did not have any other person so close to them that they would think of calling themselves friends, yet he was still so brazen to lie in his face. "You have a friend that I am not aware of?" he added, trying to act hurt even though all he wanted to do was burst i

Evangeline knew her husband was hiding something from him, but no matter how much she pressed him and forced him to speak, he just brushed it off. She had to get the talk out of his mouth as soon as she could, and she was ready that morning to do just that. "Are you really not going to tell me what happened between you and Oliver? Since you came back from the meeting, you have not said a word about it," Evangeline said. When he was afraid of going to meet Oliver, thinking that it was a trap, she was the one who encouraged him, yet there was no feedback so she could know what to do. "I have told you countless times that you would know when the time is right." "And each time you tell me, I also make a duty to remind you that you did not get to these places all by yourself; there was always me who pushed you up. You should not be keeping anything from me. You should be telling me everything at every step of the way," Evangeline said. Gavin could not argue that, but it was not because

FRIDAY NIGHT "Where are you going dressed like that?" Oliver looked up and down at his sister, who had come into the kitchen to get a glass of water. The dress she was wearing barely covered anything, which was rare for her. She had always been a good girl who abided by the rules, and he would swear this was a dream if he had not been living out the entire day. She turned to him, and the extreme makeup on her face scared him a bit. "What?" she asked, looking at him as she blinked rapidly. "I asked where you were going," he jumped out of the chair he was sitting in while eating a boring bowl of plain oats. She had thought he would be snugly tucked in his bedroom, and that was the reason she was ready to leave the house. But maybe this was a good thing; he would see her going out, and she did not need to sneak out. "Oh, I am going clubbing," she said. His face showed horror because clubbing was not something she randomly did; in fact, he had never seen her talk about going out of

"Mr Carson?" Damien looked at the time and then looked down at his phone. Why would he be calling him at this time? Did they become that close? He slid his finger across his phone and put the phone to his ears. "Hello Damien," Oliver's voice rang with family across the line. Damien shifted in his chair, a bit uncomfortable, as he did not understand when they came to be able to be familiar with each other. He cleared his throat and turned his head to the side. "Hello, Mr. Carson." "Do you know what Lila is doing today?" Oliver asked.Damien did not like that he was so caught up with Lila and her family when all he had to do was get revenge. Seeing that Oliver was the one who was calling him, he knew that he had to act shocked. He shook his head to himself. "Seeing how quiet you are, it seems that you are unaware of what is going on; I thought you two got into some kind of relationship." Damien could sense that Oliver wanted him to care; he was supposed to act the part of a caring

"What are you doing here?" Lila asked, running her hand through her hair. Damien looked down at her exposed lap and how firmly the guy sitting beside her was gripping it. Damien raised his head, and their eyes met. The man recognized who he was, but he did not care; this was a club, and he was with this girl first. "What are you doing?" Damien asked, looking down at his hand and then tracing it upwards. "I do not think it is any of your business," the man said, causing a sharp sound to leave Damien's lip. He closed the gap between them, so he was staring at the man in his eyes. "It is to my business?" he asked and then let out a small annoyed laugh. He held his hand and pressed on the side. The man tried to act as if his grip was too tight for him to handle. "How can you touching my girlfriend so sexually not be my business?" Lila was getting drunk, but at least she could understand what was going on. She felt her heart flutter as if it were going to fly away, and she knew that th

"What are you doing here?" Lila managed to let it out of her mouth at once. She smiled to herself as she was proud of her achievement. She raised her eyes to him and noticed how he dimmed his eyes. "I came here to..." He trailed off because he could not explain why he came here. He was promising himself that he had nothing to do with her, and yet he could not stop thinking of her. "Oliver called me," he choked out. "Oliver? Why?" she asked, barely able to keep herself up. He slid beside her and used part of his body to keep her up. "He told me that we needed to come get you because we thought you might be drunk." She did not know if it was because she was drunk or if he was the one stuttering, but his speech was all distorted in her head. "So why did you stop me from having fun?" she asked, pouting. Damien looked away because he couldn't deny that her dishevelled hair, beat-down makeup, and pout made her look cuter than he remembered. The alcohol she had drunk had given her cheeks

"Oh, my head hurts," Arietta groaned as she moved in bed. She felt her throat tighten and knew she needed a glass of water to quench her thirst. She stirred in bed and tried her best to get into a sitting position. She sat still with her eyes closed as she wondered why she drank so much when she knew how stupid she was when she drank and how much she could hold her liquor. Memories from her drinking escapes flooded her mind, but she was not able to put them together. She knew she just had to give herself a little time, and everything would flow to her naturally. Her eyes flared gently, but when she looked around, she could not recognize the room she was in. No room in her house had the secrets she was looking at. "Where am I?" she asked herself, looking down at the thick black blanket that had covered her. She took it off and checked her clothes to ensure it was okay. She looked at the nightstand and was grateful that there was water there. She poured a glass for herself and wiped i

Oliver bit the corner of his lips; he did not know what to say in response. He could not tell her that he had come to stop her from hooking up with any other man because even though he had let her go physically, he was still very much connected with her emotionally and was not ready to let go yet. "Why did you come?" she asked again. She wanted to hear what he had to say. She wished he would say something that would make her doubt his feelings."I was worried," he said. "About me? Were you worried about me?""I did not think nice girls like you and Lila should be in a place like that," he replied."What is wrong with a place like that? I do not see anything wrong with a club," she replied, blinking rapidly. He opened his mouth to speak, but she raised her hand to stop him before he could say anything. "You should never have come. We broke up, and I am not your problem anymore, so I do not think that you should be doing things like that even if you are worried about me." "It is just

"Damien?" Rosa said as she saw him walk towards her in the garden. "I did not know you were coming over today," she added, and he smiled sadly, sitting beside her in the chair. "I also did not know that I was going to come over; it was kind of an impromptu thing," he confessed. "What is it with that expression on your face?" she asked. "What expression?""You look sad, but it is a different kind from the one I am used to," she said. He always looked sad, carrying around a gloomy face since Amber died. She always thought that it might be a good idea if he found someone who knew and loved him, but somewhere deep inside her, she wanted her daughter to be remembered a bit more. She was afraid that if she told him to do that, he might take it so seriously that her daughter would be a forgotten memory faster than one could think. That was the reason she never suggested it to him. She feared that the expression on his face was him coming to tell her that he had found someone and was goin

Tessa smiled at her daughter's report, and then she put the phone down on the table. She raised her head to meet Damien's gaze. "What do I owe the pleasure of meeting with Damien Calloway?" Tessa asked, leaning in and using her to trace the edge of the table. "Would you like anything to eat or drink?" Damien said instead of answering her. "It's already past ten; I had breakfast," she replied and then added in a low tone. "I am not an animal after all." "I am yet to have breakfast. I guess I must be an animal, but I need breakfast, so I will get you a cup of water and a few pastries for the table," he said, standing up and going to the counter to order. Tessa wondered why he had so much confidence. She knew him and his father when they suddenly rose to fame and how he changed the history of everything around him. He had been so influential that his past suddenly did not matter to everyone around him. Those who would have nitpicked at everything were comfortable with it all. Damien

Lila wanted to check on Damien to see if he was hurt in the fight, even if it was most unlikely that anything like that would happen. She was still worried, but how would he believe anything if she was calling him up to check on him after brutally breaking up with him and even going the extra mile to try and convince him that she was done? "I never even got to tell him that I liked him," she murmured to herself. She did not know why it was so important to her, but she wanted to tell him at least once that during their time together she had begun to fall for him before she had to do what was right for herself and her family. THE NEXT MORNING"Damien is asking to meet with me," Tessa said as if she were giving morning updates to the group on the table"Why?" Lila choked out, trying not to sound too excited or curious to hear it. She had to first convince herself that she was capable of getting the job done before she could convince anyone else. He walked into the house hoping that Evangeline was already asleep and he did not need to go back and forth with her today. "Why are you just getting back?" "Since when did you care what time I got back?" Gavin was startled by her voice because he had looked around when he got in and had not seen anything but majorly because the entire place was dark. She watched him look around like a criminal ready to steal something when he came in. She wanted to stand in front of him and rain down cursed but held herself back. Tessa had called her and sent images of Gavin with Lila. She told her that she was against it but her daughter was going back to Gavin. He knew that he would not be able to win against this man, but the pride he felt in his heart was not going to allow him to back down. "What do you also think you are doing?" Damien asked, closing the gap between them so that they were now touching chest to chest and their faces so close to each other that if they tipped a bit, they might be kissing. "I asked you first; why don't you answer?" Gavin asked. He knew he should not be doing anything like this, but maybe the confidence that Lila was beside him now was giving him some kind of push. "What?" Damien let out a surprised laugh. "You must think that you are a big shot now," he added. "You punched first, and for what?" Gavin's eyes darted around, trying to f

Where did she see such confidence from, and how did she develop it?"With your ex? With the man who married another woman? Are you with a married man?" Damien's voice came out as a mixture of anger and concern for her. She could see that all was wrong, but she had to defend herself. What if Damien began to see her as a loose person who did not care about herself? "It is just a friendly date, and I do not think any of this is your business," she murmured, trying to look away. "You do not think any of this is my business?" He said, taking a deep breath as if to stop himself from exploding. "And what is a friendly date?" he asked with a puzzled expression on his face. "Why? I thought you two looked together," Gavin said. He was brimming with so much joy, but he could not show it. He was supposed to be a married man. How did he show so much happiness just because she was going to be with him if all went well? "We were a good match, but he liked me more than I liked him, and in relationships like that, it is hard to keep up, and as I said earlier, I still loved you; I liked you so much that I could not move on," she lied, and her throat felt itchy as she lied so much. "I am a married man," Lila wanted to call his bluff; he was acting hard to get, and to what end? He had been brimming from ear to ear, and now he wanted to act as if he were faithful to his wife. "I know this is wrong, but are you saying that all of the feelings you have for me are all gone?" She asked, and he stood there, watching her. "If you tell me that you do not have a single feeling for me again, I will not disturb you again." Gavin sat there and watched her without a word. "

She looked at him shocked at his actions; she wanted to ask him why he was acting like such a gentleman and standing up when she got into the room. Pulling out the chair for her? She remembered their dates as a couple and how he was always nonchalant towards her. She licked her lips and shook her head, trying to act as if it were normal for him to act like this. "Thank you," she murmured instead of asking him what had come over him. She slipped into the chair, and he put it on a bit before going back to the seat opposite her. She hated the way they had to sit opposite each other and stare into their souls as if nothing was wrong with it. "You are welcome," he replied, taking up the menu and giving it
