Oliver bit the corner of his lips; he did not know what to say in response. He could not tell her that he had come to stop her from hooking up with any other man because even though he had let her go physically, he was still very much connected with her emotionally and was not ready to let go yet.

"Why did you come?" she asked again. She wanted to hear what he had to say. She wished he would say something that would make her doubt his feelings.

"I was worried," he said.

"About me? Were you worried about me?"

"I did not think nice girls like you and Lila should be in a place like that," he replied.

"What is wrong with a place like that? I do not see anything wrong with a club," she replied, blinking rapidly. He opened his mouth to speak, but she raised her hand to stop him before he could say anything. "You should never have come. We broke up, and I am not your problem anymore, so I do not think that you should be doing things like that even if you are worried about me."

"Do you have any idea how we made it home yesterday?" Lila asked, dropping to the bed and checking out what Oliver had brought for her. "Woah, toast, apple slices, honeywater, and tea?" Lila asked, surprised at the treat before her. "That is a lot." "He makes this for you but forces me to eat plain boring oats." Lila took up a slice of toast and bit from it. "He must have it for you." "Stop saying that; you are giving me hope," Arietta murmured silently. She opened the flask containing the honey water and poured it into the empty glass. She drank from it and was grateful for the taste of it as it lulled through her system. "It is good to have hope; no one ever died from having hope," Lila murmured as she savoured the taste of the well-done toast. "Since you are sticking to honey water, I am going to stick to drinking the coffee." Lila knew that if she wanted to get a good breakfast, she must have done it herself. "Thank you," she followed up, allowing the smell of the freshly bre

Lila looked down at her phone DAMIEN CALLOWAY stared at her from the screen. "What do I say to him?" Lila murmured, looking down at her screen. She raised her head and shook her head. She was not sure what she had done to him yet, so what was she going to say? "Hey Damien, it is I who have a terrible drinking habit of blacking out when I drink, and I decided to go to a club and then drink and embarrass myself in front of you." She groaned and stood up. Arietta told her to act as if she did not remember anything. She had begged her to stay while she made a call, but Arietta said she wanted to go home and get ready for the dinner she was having with her brother. She could not say no since she was the biggest shipper. "Ah!" she shrieked and threw the phone out of her hand on the bed when it began ringing, the sound filling the room. She bent down to look at the screen, and Damien was calling. "Damien?" she murmured. She took a deep breath and sat on the bed, taking up the phone. She t

"We have been driving for a while now. Where are we going?" Lila lifted her head and looked around them. Damien was at the house a few minutes before six, and she was ready to go. She did not want to make it seem like a big deal, so she did not call him back to ask where he was taking her. She just threw on a pair of jeans and a button-down shirt with her hair up in a bun. "I was going to take you to fine dining, but you are not dressed the part, so I am thinking of taking you somewhere else." "Well, I did not know your plans, so I wore what was fitting enough for me." "You should have asked me to know what to wear." "I don't want to make it a big deal," she said in a small voice, looking out the window. She was very glad that she could look out the window instead of at him. "So where are we going now?" she asked. "Someplace," he said with a shrug as he merged into the traffic. "Someplace? Does someplace have a name?" She asked, tilting her head a bit so she could see his entire

"Welcome to my home; I have only one rule." "One rule?" Lila asked as she walked into the house. She looked around and wondered why the house reminded her of their house. Oliver and Damien seemed to have the same idea of home decoration. "What is it?" she asked, pushing down the thoughts of asking him why his house looked so bleak back to his mind. "You are limited to downstairs," he said. Amber's pictures littered everywhere upstairs, and he did not want to know if Lila could remember her face, but he did not want to take any pictures. "This is the best thing you have said tonight," she exclaimed, clapping her hand and smiling. He was glad that she understood and was okay with his terms. "Shall we go to the kitchen?" he asked, pointing her in the direction of where she should go. She held onto the bag in front of her legs, kicking it in as she moved in the direction he had shown."So what are you going to make?" she asked, sitting on one of the kitchen stools. Damien did not know why he had done anything that night. Yes, Sam had asked him to get closer to her, but he could not understand why he was flirting so much with her. When he asked her for dinner, he had his own motives; he had to hear what she had to say without making her think she was uncomfortable. He had no idea why he brought her to his house. He had even winked. He was trying to clear his mind as he cooked, but Lila dropped a few words here and there while he was cooking. He wanted to have the silence, but he was still grateful. He plated the mac and cheese and cleaned the sides of the plate before taking both plates to the dining table. He came back in and tapped her shoulders; she stirred a bit and looked at him. "When did I fall asleep?" she murmured, rubbing the sides of her face. "I wonder when," he said, shrugging as he walked towards the cabinets. "It must have taken you a while to get the meal ready," she said as she let out an extremely long and loud yawn. "But i

"Thank you so much for the meal," Lila said, sitting on the sofa in the living room. She did not know why, but she felt a bit more relaxed than when she first got there. She was now sitting on the couch with her legs folded under her. "I am glad you liked it," Damien replied. She took a tiny sip from her bottle of wine. She had been drinking the same one since dinner while he was waiting on a third bottle. He thought that showing her it was okay to drink would make her take a bit more or maybe a second bottle, but while he was busy getting intoxicated, she was just trying her best to stay sober. "Your house..." she trailed off. During dinner, they had spoken about random things and even laughed. When she heard him laugh, she suppressed her words down her throat because she wanted to make him feel uncomfortable about it and stop laughing. She could not deny that his laugh was now one of her favourite things about him. He had so many qualities that it was hard to choose anything, but

Arietta sat across from Oliver; they had barely said any words to each other, and at this point, she was waiting for them to get the check and out of there. She did not know why, but he was not saying anything, and just sitting there angered her more. She sort of had high hopes of meeting him that evening, but it seemed like everything was going south. She pressed her lips together and cleared her throat. "If you are eating, then maybe we should be going," she said. If she had had her ride there, then maybe she would have stormed out of anger, but she did not want to have to go through the trouble of getting a taxi by herself and getting home all by herself. She knew now to always bring along a car and driver if she was going to drink. "Already?" he asked, lifting his eyes, and she could swear that this was the first time she had seen his eye since they sat down. The expression running wild in them was weird to her; she had only ever known him as this confident man, but here he was

Arietta pulled away from him and slapped his face. He held his face in shock even though he knew that he had deserved that and even more. "What was that?" she asked, breathing heavily. "I am sorry," he said, bending his head with shame. "You are sorry? If you knew that you were going to be sorry, then why did you do it?" she asked, wiping the tears that had fallen after she pulled away. "I did not ask you to be sorry; I am simply asking what that was and why you did it," she said, her voice breaking as it came out of her throat. "It is..." he stopped talking abruptly and turned his head. "Open the door," she said, her back to him and her hand on the door again."Arietta, please," he let out, and she turned to him with an angry expression on her face. So angry that she knew that her reaction at that moment would be to cry, and she did not want to cry in his presence. It would mean that he had such powers to make her cry. "Pleas? "Damien?" Rosa said as she saw him walk towards her in the garden. "I did not know you were coming over today," she added, and he smiled sadly, sitting beside her in the chair. "I also did not know that I was going to come over; it was kind of an impromptu thing," he confessed. "What is it with that expression on your face?" she asked. "What expression?""You look sad, but it is a different kind from the one I am used to," she said. He always looked sad, carrying around a gloomy face since Amber died. She always thought that it might be a good idea if he found someone who knew and loved him, but somewhere deep inside her, she wanted her daughter to be remembered a bit more. She was afraid that if she told him to do that, he might take it so seriously that her daughter would be a forgotten memory faster than one could think. That was the reason she never suggested it to him. She feared that the expression on his face was him coming to tell her that he had found someone and was goin

Tessa smiled at her daughter's report, and then she put the phone down on the table. She raised her head to meet Damien's gaze. "What do I owe the pleasure of meeting with Damien Calloway?" Tessa asked, leaning in and using her to trace the edge of the table. "Would you like anything to eat or drink?" Damien said instead of answering her. "It's already past ten; I had breakfast," she replied and then added in a low tone. "I am not an animal after all." "I am yet to have breakfast. I guess I must be an animal, but I need breakfast, so I will get you a cup of water and a few pastries for the table," he said, standing up and going to the counter to order. Tessa wondered why he had so much confidence. She knew him and his father when they suddenly rose to fame and how he changed the history of everything around him. He had been so influential that his past suddenly did not matter to everyone around him. Those who would have nitpicked at everything were comfortable with it all. Damien

Lila wanted to check on Damien to see if he was hurt in the fight, even if it was most unlikely that anything like that would happen. She was still worried, but how would he believe anything if she was calling him up to check on him after brutally breaking up with him and even going the extra mile to try and convince him that she was done? "I never even got to tell him that I liked him," she murmured to herself. She did not know why it was so important to her, but she wanted to tell him at least once that during their time together she had begun to fall for him before she had to do what was right for herself and her family. THE NEXT MORNING"Damien is asking to meet with me," Tessa said as if she were giving morning updates to the group on the table"Why?" Lila choked out, trying not to sound too excited or curious to hear it. She had to first convince herself that she was capable of getting the job done before she could convince anyone else. He walked into the house hoping that Evangeline was already asleep and he did not need to go back and forth with her today. "Why are you just getting back?" "Since when did you care what time I got back?" Gavin was startled by her voice because he had looked around when he got in and had not seen anything but majorly because the entire place was dark. She watched him look around like a criminal ready to steal something when he came in. She wanted to stand in front of him and rain down cursed but held herself back. Tessa had called her and sent images of Gavin with Lila. She told her that she was against it but her daughter was going back to Gavin. He knew that he would not be able to win against this man, but the pride he felt in his heart was not going to allow him to back down. "What do you also think you are doing?" Damien asked, closing the gap between them so that they were now touching chest to chest and their faces so close to each other that if they tipped a bit, they might be kissing. "I asked you first; why don't you answer?" Gavin asked. He knew he should not be doing anything like this, but maybe the confidence that Lila was beside him now was giving him some kind of push. Where did she see such confidence from, and how did she develop it?"With your ex? With the man who married another woman? Are you with a married man?" Damien's voice came out as a mixture of anger and concern for her. She could see that all was wrong, but she had to defend herself. What if Damien began to see her as a loose person who did not care about herself? "It is just a friendly date, and I do not think any of this is your business," she murmured, trying to look away. "You do not think any of this is my business?" He said, taking a deep breath as if to stop himself from exploding. "And what is a friendly date?" he asked with a puzzled expression on his face. "Why? I thought you two looked together," Gavin said. He was brimming with so much joy, but he could not show it. He was supposed to be a married man. How did he show so much happiness just because she was going to be with him if all went well? "We were a good match, but he liked me more than I liked him, and in relationships like that, it is hard to keep up, and as I said earlier, I still loved you; I liked you so much that I could not move on," she lied, and her throat felt itchy as she lied so much. "I am a married man," Lila wanted to call his bluff; he was acting hard to get, and to what end? He had been brimming from ear to ear, and now he wanted to act as if he were faithful to his wife. "I know this is wrong, but are you saying that all of the feelings you have for me are all gone?" She asked, and he stood there, watching her. "If you tell me that you do not have a single feeling for me again, I will not disturb you again." Gavin sat there and watched her without a word. "

She looked at him shocked at his actions; she wanted to ask him why he was acting like such a gentleman and standing up when she got into the room. Pulling out the chair for her? She remembered their dates as a couple and how he was always nonchalant towards her. She licked her lips and shook her head, trying to act as if it were normal for him to act like this. "Thank you," she murmured instead of asking him what had come over him. She slipped into the chair, and he put it on a bit before going back to the seat opposite her. She hated the way they had to sit opposite each other and stare into their souls as if nothing was wrong with it. "You are welcome," he replied, taking up the menu and giving it
