"It was Diana," she says, her voice barely a whisper. "She tricked me. She made me do it."

I watch her, my heart a lead weight in my chest. I know Charlotte,

That's something that doesn't surprise me anymore. Diana has always been cunning and deceitful. And I know that Charlotte capable of making mistakes, of being manipulated, but this… this is different.

She was a very easy target.

"You were scared of her," I say, my voice low and steady. "You were scared because she threatened you when you wanted to give up the original plan."

Charlotte flinches at my words, her gaze dropping to her lap. She doesn't deny it. She doesn't need to.

I know the truth just like everyone else. What happened to her wasn't the first time it happened. It happened to many others before her.

The truth is etched on her face, in the way her shoulders slump, in the tremor of her hands.
