Claire leaned against the lockers, arms crossed, watching Liam from across the hall. Beside her, Jason smirked.

“So, Liam’s got a new favorite now?” Jason mused.

Claire glanced at him. “What are you talking about?”

Jason nodded toward where Liam stood, talking—no, smirking—at Adrian Sinclair. The quiet, nerdy tutor. The last person anyone expected to be on Liam’s radar.

Claire tilted her head. “Huh.”

Jason chuckled. “Didn’t take you for the jealous type, Claire.”

Claire scoffed. “Jealous? Please. I just didn’t think Liam would ever take an interest in someone like that.”

Jason shrugged. “Maybe he’s just bored. You know how he is.”

But Claire wasn’t so sure.

She had dated Liam long enough to know his type—and Adrian Sinclair wasn’t it.

So why was Liam bothering with him?

Her eyes narrowed slightly as she watched Liam ruffle Adrian’s hair, making the tutor swat his hand away with an annoyed scowl.

Interesting.

---

Later that day, Adrian sat in the campus café, flipping through his notes when someone dropped into the seat across from him.

Liam.

And he was grinning.

Adrian already didn’t trust him. “What.”

Liam leaned forward. “So, about tonight…”

Adrian sighed. “You’re still on this?”

Liam smirked. “I thought I was being patient.”

“You weren’t.”

Liam chuckled. “Come on, Sinclair. It’s just one party.”

Adrian shook his head. “I don’t do parties.”

“Not yet,” Liam corrected. “But there’s a first time for everything.”

Adrian exhaled. “Why do you even care if I go?”

Liam tilted his head, considering. “Because you could use a little fun.”

“I have fun,” Adrian deadpanned.

Liam raised an eyebrow. “Really? When’s the last time you did something that wasn’t academic?”

Adrian opened his mouth. Paused. Shut it again.

Liam grinned. “Exactly.”

Adrian scowled. “That doesn’t mean I should waste my time at a loud, crowded house full of drunk idiots.”

Liam shrugged. “Fine. Stay home. Be boring. I’ll have fun without you.”

Adrian exhaled through his nose. He knew exactly what Liam was doing.

“Reverse psychology won’t work on me.”

Liam smirked. “That’s what they all say.”

Adrian groaned, rubbing his temples. This was exhausting.

Then Liam grinned wider. “Tell you what—if you show up, I’ll actually do the next homework assignment without your help.”

Adrian blinked. That was… tempting.

Liam saw his hesitation. “See? You’re thinking about it.”

Adrian muttered, “I hate you.”

Liam laughed. “That’s the spirit.”

---

Meanwhile, Jason leaned against the doorframe of the basketball locker room, watching Liam leave the café.

“He’s acting weird,” Jason muttered.

Beside him, another teammate snorted. “Liam?”

Jason nodded toward Adrian, who was still sitting in the café, looking way too lost in thought.

“He’s actually paying attention to some nerd?” Jason scoffed. “That’s not normal.”

The teammate shrugged. “Maybe he’s just using him for tutoring.”

Jason frowned. That wasn’t it.

The way Liam looked at Adrian? That wasn’t just about grades.

And Jason didn’t like it.

---

By the time Adrian got back to his dorm, he was annoyingly conflicted.

He didn’t want to go.

But at the same time… he kind of wanted to see what would happen if he did.

Would Liam act any different? Would he regret asking him to come?

And why did Adrian care?

With a frustrated sigh, he grabbed his phone.

Adrian Sinclair: I’ll go. But if it’s terrible, you owe me.

A response came almost instantly.

Liam Hunter: Deal.

Adrian groaned. What was he getting himself into?
