There was a tale passed through generations, reaching the 21st Century, about a group of werewolves’ special mutation that brings out dormant abilities from a family’s genetic line. They were said to be marked and blessed by the moon goddess for they were the first of her followers. They were given the title of Legacy Wolves, keeping up their tradition and passing on their special traits through their children.
Yet, as centuries passed by, due to their power the group was viewed as a broodmare, only there to keep a line pure and blessed. Due to this, the endangered group of wolves was forced to hide, away from natural werewolf society. Some had eventually forgotten the trait within them, living their life as normal human beings.
There was one family though, that valued their tradition far greater than the rest of their kind. The sole family who still kept up with their belief was the Vailant family, a matriarchal family. It was rare for a legacy family to give birth to two legacy wolves, most of their ancestors only gave birth to a single child.
And yet, the current matriarch of the Valiant clan was blessed in birthing two healthy baby girls, both blessed as legacy wolves. As expected of the family’s heiresses, the two girls were brought up educated with their ways, surprisingly enough the girls were accepting of the traditions that their family holds
“Come out, Come out, Wherever you are little wolf.” A small inaudible whimper left her lips as she pushed herself further into the cupboard as the thundering footsteps and vile scent of a stranger permeated the whole air. She was afraid, her whole body was trembling and she wanted nothing more but her sister and her parents.
She didn’t know how it came to be but the moment she heard her sitter’s yell of ‘Hide’ before a gunshot echoed through the entire house, she climbed out of her bed before running to a secret cellar of the house, mostly used for food storage
The seven-year-old little girl had fallen sick and was left alone at home with a trusted sitter, while the family, particularly her mother and sister were in town to buy supplies and medicine for her. Her father was out of town, on a job, and won’t be home till the end of the week.
“They’re not here.” She heard a voice say, far too close to her hiding spot for her comfort. Another voice echoed through the house but this time she couldn’t clearly hear what was being said. A wince left her body when loud spontaneous crashes erupted in the house, almost deafening her poor sensitive ears. She tried her best not to cry or make any loud noise, using her hands to cover her ears and biting her lips to keep herself as silent as possible.
“Let’s go.”
The little girl didn’t know how long she had stayed in the cellar, sick, trembling, and afraid but she kept herself awake no matter how tired she was, no matter how much her sick body screamed at her to lay down and rest.
She waited and waited until she heard a familiar voice, using the last ounce of strength she had, she yelled for her mother at the top of her lungs. Her last memory of that day, before her consciousness started slipping, was the familiar voice of her mother frantically shouting her name.
“Skye!”
“What the hell were you thinking?!” Those loud words woke her up from her light slumber, indescribable noises left her lips as she stretched her whole body before sitting up, trying to process the world around her. Her body fell back to the bed once more, wanting to catch more sleep only to be woken up again by another round of loud shouting. “What the fucking hell is happening?!” Various profanities left the woman’s lips as she threw off the covers before leaving her room, stomping all the way down the stairs and into the kitchen where her whole family and the loud shouting were coming from. Her fuming was halted when she saw the broken form of her twin sister, hunched over the kitchen counter and crying, cradling her stinging cheek. Their mother was a couple of inches away with her hand still raised in the air, throbbing red. “What did you do?” Her voice accusing and near dangerous as her sky-blue colored eyes instantly narrowed, zeroing in on their fuming mother. “Skye, don’t y
Skye was dreading what was to come. She wasn’t expecting these kinds of turn of events on top of her sister’s unexpected pregnancy. She tried to slow her pace as she held her twin’s hand as their mother lead them to a huge house in the heart of the forest. The double doors opened and their mother was greeted by an elder man, a family butler if Skye was guessing correctly. Their family of four was then led to a dining hall, where five people were already seating. Skye’s eyes instantly met with a pair of the darkest eyes she had ever seen in her life before she was drawn back to the owner of those eyes. Alpha Hakan. Her sister’s supposed to be husband. She let her twin lead her to her seat as her mind reeled on how they got there in the first place. The prior night before the meeting As Skye had promised, their family had settled the matter during dinner, the very same night. Thankfully enough, their parents seemed to have heeded her warning and no shouting or any kind of name-ca
Back to present Skye was given the decision of stepping out as her parents and Hakan’s family discussed things once lunch ended and with how things were going, she decided to step out. Only when she was led to the gardens was she able to let go relax and breathe freely. The tension inside the tea room of the big house was more than enough to suffocate those present. She had wished that she could take her elder twin with her but seeing as the matter concerns her, it would seem rude that she leaves. Skye was able to enjoy a couple of seconds of silence before her mind wandered back to the situation at hand. “What had you gotten yourself into Skye Vailant? You were supposed to finish college, get a job, and travel the world. Now, depending on how the conversation goes, you’ll be either free or caged.” A sigh escaped Skye’s lips as she allowed herself to fall on the wide patch of grass as her eyes stared up at her namesake. “Is marrying me really that terrible?” A deep, baritone voice
“Then it’s decided. Our Hakan and your youngest daughter, Skye will marry.” Those were the conversation Skye had walked in upon returning inside the house, and if she was a lesser being and someone who doesn’t watch herself in front of others then she would have thrashed things by the doorway before rampaging inside the room where everyone was holding the discussion. She was about to go inside the room when she heard someone breathing right behind her, acting on pure survival instinct, she turned around punching the one behind him. Before her fist could even connect with the stranger, it was caught by a hand and Skye was finally able to see who it was. “Hakan. Sorry, I thought you were….never mind.” A sigh escaped Skye’s mouth as she turned back around, just in time for the door opened and out came Hakan’s parents and hers, as well as her twin whose eyes instantly went to her twin before wandering over to the man behind her. “Ah Hakan and Skye, good thing that both of you are here.
Hakan had taken it upon himself to drive, thanking and subtly apologizing to the man that he had scared earlier once he had escorted Skye to the car. The alpha watched as Skye’s demeanor changed once more, this one being her closed and aloof side, as she stood by the car waiting for him to finish talking with the pack member. Skye watched as three muscular men came out of the lush trees beyond the garage. Watching as they made their way over to where Hakan was standing, on the other side of the car. Her sky-blue eyes drilled holes behind Hakan’s head, flashing the three muscular men a smirk whenever their eyes would wander over to where she was. “Then, I’ll be leaving Richard in charge while I go out to the city. Check the borders, I’ve been hearing talks about rogue wolves roaming around the forest from our hunters.” The man called Richard stepped up before bowing his head, as he received orders from his alpha. The three burly men left immediately when Hakan dismissed the group, tu
Skye had opted to listen to the Alpha, knowing full well that it was her clumsiness is the reason why she was alone now and her future husband was running ragged throughout the entire park area just to find some ice. The man’s tall muscular form eventually caught her line of sight as the man walked back to the car with a bag full of things. She stayed seated as Hakan opened the car door once more, pulling out a towel and small ice packets before placing them on her head, holding them with one hand before ruffling through the rest of the contents of the bag. Skye took it upon herself to hold the makeshift ice pack, a surprising grateful smile appearing on the Alpha’s face, as he continued rummaging through the bag. Hakan pulled out a bottle of water, opening it up before handing it over to her, “Drink some water. I don’t know what kind of snack you wanted but I got you a variety of things since dinner is still four hours away.” He said softly, as he opened up the plastic bag that has
Hakan didn’t know if taking Skye to this place was the best decision he had made or the worst because three hours later, they were still in the building and his arms are filled with a variety of stuff. Not that he really hated doing so when the owner of all the things he’s been holding on to for dear life was running around the entire place like a kid on Christmas day. The alpha had brought his intended to the mall, yes a mall, hence the reason why he’s trailing after her with an armful of things. Weirdly enough, Skye didn’t enter the clothing boutiques like he had expected her to do. It was not the clothes, nor the jewelry that attracted Skye, but it was the huge indoor amusement park and arcade in the mall. True it was amusing for the alpha to see how Skye’s eyes widen in awe as she stopped at the heart of the place before she spun around taking everything in with her mouth open wide and her feet doing a giddy step as she continued to look around. Hakan was able to convince Skye t
Hakan opted not to say anything after that revelation. It took the other couple five minutes to come back with Hakan’s request, thanking the couple for their help, Hakan turned his full attention back to his betrothed. Skye was completely out of herself for the first ten minutes since Hakan led her away from Dominic, she was staring out into the open with unfocused eyes and body unmoving, yet his only saving grace was that Skye wasn’t letting his hand go, so he was able to just give her a small sense of comfort with the simple gesture. Hakan stood up from his kneeling position, their hands still attached. He stayed silent for a couple of minutes before eventually placing his other hand on her shoulder, relaxing when she didn’t flinch before carefully shaking her to get her out of her reverie. “Skye? Do you want to go back to the car? Get a little rest before we go to the restaurant?” his question remained unanswered for a couple of seconds before another shake finally returned to S
“I won’t repeat what I had already written in my letter, nor will ever use any other excuse for what I did. I take full responsibility for my words and actions. The moment those words left my lips, I regretted instantly and I know an apology is not enough to cover for the pain it cause you and your sister, so I will continue to carry that mistake all my life.” Skye looked at the man and Hakan stared right back to his fiancée’s blue eyes, determined to show her that he was indeed truly regretting his actions. And it shows, and Skye could see it. The proud alpha that she had met during their first meeting was nowhere to be found at the moment, instead, the man sitting across from her was slouching, hands were hidden beneath the table, probably being played by, and his onyx eyes boring a hole right through her soul. “Hakan, although I must admit, I am still incredibly pissed at you right till this moment, and even others wouldn’t be able to say otherwise. You hurt my sister for someth
“Alpha Hakan, I did as you asked and delivered the box, to Ms. Skye.” Hakan’s hand froze a couple of centimeters away from the paper, his pen in hand, before he righted himself. He put on the pen’s cap, placing it down, before raising his head and looking at his delta, Neil. “Ho-,” he let out a cough, trying his best to push away the embarrassment creeping up on him for letting his voice crack, “How did she take it?” He was NOT, definitely not panicking inside, as he placed his hands on his lap and started fiddling with it. Neil stared at his alpha and he couldn’t help but smile, it was the man’s small action like this that shows that he was still human, that he was not the unfeeling monster that some of the members of their society had portrayed him as, just because he had challenged his father for the alpha position within their pack. “Calm down alpha. Miss Skye allowed me in her home to place down the package and she instructed me to hand this to you.” Neil took out the preciou
“Knew it. This isn’t just ‘some’, Zella.” The elder twin released a sigh, this time of acknowledgment, as she too, stared at the spectacle laid right in front of them, with their father standing by their side this time and the culprit standing across them, wearing the most regretful face they had ever seen from her. “I know.” This time it was Skye who let out a sigh after hearing her twin’s answer before her attention wandered over to their mother. “Mom, what the heck? The table’s about to give up due to the amount of food here. We could eat this for the next three days.” If one was to see what was happening within the Valiant household, one would think it was Skye who was the mother scolding her child, with both hands on her hips, and their mother’s head was bowed and in a submitting position. It had not been the first time their mother had done it, and if the twins were honest, they were very much surprised that their family even had money to support each other. Their mother, ble
To say the least, a personally hand-written apology was not something Skye expected to receive a day after she had just told her betrothed to politely fuck off, not the words she had used but for lack of better phrasing, it was what she did. The letter had come in the form of a familiar tall and bulky man and if Skye was to trust her memory, she had already seen the man and knew full well where he was from. “I told your Alpha not to come here, and he sent you? Smart man.” Richard Aldrich was the beta of the Knox pack, yet he couldn’t help but adjust his stance against the wandering gaze of the smaller woman. “What brought you here? I truly wish it is not for your sorry excuse of an Alpha.” The hate lacing Skye’s voice was more than enough for the beta to take a quick step back. “Alpha Hakan,” another flinch from the man amused the smaller woman to no end, “Has sent me over to give you this.” The man hesitated for a bit but Skye watched as the man squared his shoulder before walking
The moment he had gone home, he knew he had fucked up. He didn’t know what had come over him but when he heard Skye’s words and how it was phrased, his wolf had come out even before he could suppress it and as a result, it had lashed out to the woman against his own will. Admittedly, he regretted the words that escaped his mouth the moment it happened. It was unbecoming of him, especially adding Zella to the conversation when the woman was just trying to help both of them. “I need to apologize to Zella, but god knows when Skye would allow me to ask for her forgiveness.” As far as he was concerned, how much he had grown to know Skye. She was the type of person who would hold grudges, especially against those she cares for, which unfortunately for him, was her twin, someone with whom he had lashed out with his uncouth mouth. Even if Zella did forgive him, a chance that he was slowly doubting by the second, Skye wouldn’t. He was sure of that, a hundred percent. She wouldn’t hear hi
“Come on, Skye. Just a little more.” A nasty groan of pain erupted from the woman as her blue eyes stares right back to the pools of a dark abyss before a cry left her lips and she let her head fall forward, hitting her head on the table with the loudest ‘bang’ that had the two other occupants of room winced at the sound. “Skye,” the aforementioned owner of the name suddenly stopped banging her head on the table, only to look up and meet an almost identical, yet slightly bit darker-colored pair of her own eyes, “stop hurting yourself, please.” It was not a request but an order in the form of a request if how hard Zella was looking at her younger twin was any kind of indication. “But, who in their right mind, that is, would torture themselves learning this.” Hakan would have laughed because frankly speaking the scene in front of him was amusing to no end. He had been trying – and spectacularly failing – to teach and get his betrothed to understand the subject but to no avail, it seeme
“All right. Food’s ready, one platter of cream pasta and freshly baked garlic bread for everyone!” it was unusual, to say the least, for the alpha to see this side of his betrothed. He had only seen her smile a couple of times during the days that they were together and even during Skye’s fun time in the amusement park dims in comparison. Hakan watched as Skye took both of their plates before giving them a serving with two pieces of garlic bread each before disappearing once more only to come back with a pitcher with red liquid and one with water before she went around the table pouring the both of them a glass. “Go ahead and dig in, I am just gonna check something back in the kitchen.” Zella stared at her twin with a knowing look before eventually starting to eat. Hakan followed after the elder twin while keeping his eye on the door adjacent to the room. “Don’t worry about her, she’s probably just cleaning around the kitchen before she eats. God forbid any of the things she used t
“You do realize that you’ll continue to get embarrassed the longer you hide in here.” Zella’s words were a dagger that sliced through the silent atmosphere inside Skye’s room, the elder twins’ eyes were lazily wandering around every now and then and would stop right on her twins’ crouching figure on the bed. “Shut up. How would I know that he’ll be coming here all romantic like that.” Skye growled back at her sibling, sending the elder a small glare before continuing to hide her tomato-red face on her pillow, the blue, five-foot-long teddy bear lying right beside her on the bed. “Go to the bathroom and wash your face, I’ll go down and tend to our guest while you calm yourself.” Zella pushed herself off of the wall before leaving Skye’s room, making her way back down the stairs, nodding at the Alpha’s direction before detouring back to the kitchen where she prepared something to drink for the Alpha. “Skye will be down in a moment, she just needed to wash her face. She wasn’t, well w
Hakan was torn. He was debating with himself whether to stay with his betrothed or will this thing be considered inappropriate, but seeing that they were to be wed in less than a month if his parents and Skye’s parents’ time agreement goes through. Hakan finished his sandwich before carefully taking both his plate and Skye’s plate back to the kitchen, washing and drying it in the process. He returned to the living room a couple of minutes later, opting to stay in the room with Skye, not wanting to leave a sleeping and defenseless fiancée alone. Hakan managed to keep himself entertained by surfing through his phone and reading the available books that Skye’s family had in the living, for more than three and a half hours. Lunch was approaching fast for them and the alpha was so torn between ordering a meal for the both of them or cooking one, himself, in the kitchen. “Ah, fuck it.” A barely roared whisper escaped the alpha’s mouth as he silently made his way through the living room an
