IRISI heard someone yelling and jumped up from the treasure room bed. "Hello?" I said quietly, but no one responded. I was afraid to move at first but decided I needed to make sure Ryker was okay. I grabbed a phone in case I needed to call the police or the guards at the gate. I threw on a T-shirt and shorts I saw on the bed beside me. He must have sat them there for me when he left the room. When I walked into the hall I was very quiet so no one would hear me coming. "What the fuck do you mean you can't fucking track the call?" It was Ryker who was yelling, so I walked a little faster. I heard him yell, "FUCKING WORTHLESS!" Before hearing a slam. I assume he slammed a phone down. When I got to the room his voice was coming through I was almost afraid to walk in. "Don't spy Iris, come in." He said harshly. I walked slowly around the corner but kept my eyes cast to the floor. The room was dusty, and covered in missing photos and papers, with an office desk set up, some chairs, and a li
RykerThe man was bleeding, lying on my foyer floor. I reached for my phone to call the security team for the house. How did they let him through? "Fuck!" I said under my breath laying the cool metal on the bar. I left him there bleeding and poured myself a drink. I saw Iris come running down the hall from the bedroom. She stopped and her eyes got large. "What.." She couldn't finish her thought. "He would have killed me, Iris, he could have hurt you, I had to take him out." I knew I sounded cold, but this was a first for me. It was me or him, and it wasn't going to be me still standing. I can't wait to talk to my security to see how he got through. I thought we were covered out there. I put the phone to my ear waiting for someone to answer. "Yes, Mr. Lorcane, Did we hear shots? Thomas is headed up to the house. Are you okay?" A frantic man from my security team outside was almost yelling into the phone. Deacon had ordered more security since the wreck, already, replacing the men that w
IRISI heard the voice and recognized it immediately. I jumped out of the car, "Deacon, why are you not at the hospital?" I said running over to him. He was all bandaged up and his arm was in a sling. "I had to come. The security team called me. What the fuck happened?" He sounded worried and angry. "Deac, I told you to stay at the hospital!" Now Ryker sounded angry and worried. I looked from one to the other. "Listen, boss, I am not sitting in that damn hospital while you are having hitmen show up in your house. It was the one from that fucking club? Was he connected to that group there?" He was using codewords probably not thinking that Ryker had told me anything. "Do you think it was her that called? Was it Ivy?" Deacon was still talking. "It sure sounded just like her man. Hell, I don't know. Maybe some kind of voice software?" Deacon was nodding and taking in the information. "Where are you all heading?" he asked looking back towards the security building. "We were headed to check
RYKERWhy does she keep calling me? I slammed the phone down on the table. I had walked out of the bedroom thinking Deacon was calling, I didn't want to wake up my girl. I heard giggles, and then humming in my ear. Why is she doing this? Why now? I searched and searched for her. I sat down at the bar and poured me a drink. I can't sleep like this, I can't relax, and my mind won't stop racing. Why does she keep calling me? The phone rang again, "If you are going to call me bitch, at least have the balls to say something to me!" I screamed out. "Boss?" This time it was Deacon. "She called again, didn't she?" He said quietly. "Why does she keep calling me?" I asked him the impossible question I had been asking myself. "I don't know Ryk, I will find out." He said seriously, telling me he was just as upset by it as I was. He remembers, How dark I got when she disappeared. I thought it was my fault. I thought I had put her in danger. It sounds like she wasn't in danger at all. She left, wi
IRISWhen the text came in, I was still half drowsy. I picked up my phone and stared at the screen until my eyes focused. It was from my mother. Someone had called her, from California, asking questions about me. I sat up quickly. I wanted to shake Ryker, to wake him, I was frightened that someone had found my mom in Ohio. He hadn't slept well, tossing and turning most of the remainder of the night. I walked quietly to the kitchen and called Deacon. "Someone called my mom Deacon. Why would they do that? They were asking about me?" I said scared one of these crazy assasans was looking for a way to retaliate. Deacon was quiet. "Hello? Do I need to wake Ryker? What do I need to do?" I said again, with no response. "Iris, I.." He hesitated. "What?" I said getting impatient. "I called your mother." My mouth must have dropped to the floor, I couldn't say anything. Why would he do that? Why would they be asking my mom anything about me? Why not just ask me? "How did you get her number?" I ask
RYKERReading the letter gutted me. I knew I was wrong for asking Deacon to investigate her, I knew she would be angry. I had to, I had to know what happened, where her nightmares were coming from. Deacon didn't look at me while I read the note, having come to the house to check on me. I got hurt, not angry, but really I understood. If I was a good man I wouldn't try to contact her again. I would allow her to return to school without thinking of me again. How was I going to do that? Could I do that? Part of me wanted to. I wanted her to be a normal college student whose professor had not walked in and took over her life. I wanted her to forget about me, but I was selfish. I wanted to keep her for myself. I wanted her to be mine. I wanted to bury myself in her. In recent days she has become like medication for me. SHe took away my worries, and stress. Her body took away my pain. I am not a good man, I am a selfish one. I looked up at Deacon, my face hot, and my eyes teary. "I know boss,
IRISIt was dark, and cold wherever they put me. I was shot up with something in the car. I must have slept for some time. I couldn't hear much, and everything was dark. It felt like they had some sort of bag over my head. I could breathe but it was laboured. Something was on my mouth, I assume duck tape, I tried chewing on it like I had seen on a tik tok once. It worked some, but hurt my lips. I pulled at the restraints which held my hands, ankles and thighs. They were taking no chance that I would escape. I am guessing the mob assassin's death did not go over well with the boss. I am close to him, which seems rare, so of course they took me. They didn't know I had ended things. Maybe if I tell them I was heading back to the school to leave town they would let me go. I tried to scream but couldn't keep the air in for much. I sounded hoarse and groggy. What the fuck did they shoot me up with? I thought feeling tears sting my cheeks. I decided fairly quickly I wouldn't let them see my p
RYKERIt took me a minute to register the voice, I knew it was Ivy, but i couldnt comprehend why her voice would come through my phone with that name on the screen. I pulled the phone from my ear to make sure she hadnt changed the number somehow. She hadnt, Immediately I couldnt breath, I was filled with terror and rage. "Where is she?" I growled, even I could hear the pure darkness in my tone. "Temper temper Mr. Lorcane. She is fine, shiny and bright, staring at me with her starry innocent eyes. Makes me sick." She said disgusted. "You have made a mistake Ivy." I said calmly. "Oh have I? Really? What mistake is that?" She said amused with my reaction. I laughed along for a moment before getting immediately quiet, "You dont touch what is mine." She laughed louder. "Yours? I thought she wised up and left your crazy ass, like I did?" I didnt give her the satisfaction of a reaction. "You bore me, just tell me what you want?" I said trying my best to control my breathing. I didnt want her
