Chapter 68

A few days after regaining her strength, Lune’s memories started settling in, weaving together pieces of the trauma she’d endured. With them came the sorrowful realization of what she and Arlo had lost. As she lay in her hospital bed, Lune’s heart grew heavy, and her eyes filled with tears she had tried to hold back. She glanced at Arlo, who was sitting by her bedside, his hand still intertwined with hers, a protective presence she had come to rely on.

“Arlo,” she began softly, her voice breaking slightly. He looked up, his gaze tender, but as he saw the pain in her eyes, his expression grew more concerned. Lune took a shaky breath, her fingers trembling slightly as she squeezed his hand.

“I’m so sorry…about our baby,” she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. “I should’ve…I should’ve protected them better. I should’ve…been stronger.” Her words faltered, and she lowered her gaze, unable to face the grief that filled his eyes.
