Chapter 40

After they finished eating, Arlo leaned back in his chair, watching Lune with a curious expression. He had been quiet during dinner, letting her enjoy the meal, but now he seemed eager to talk. He wiped his hands on a napkin and folded his arms across the table, his eyes warm as they settled on her.

"So," he began, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips, "how was your day at school?"

Lune smiled back, feeling a little more relaxed now that the meal was done. "It was good, actually. I’m getting used to the place, and I think I’m making a friend. Her name is Maya."

Arlo raised an eyebrow, his smile widening. "That’s great to hear. It sounds like you’re settling in well."

Lune nodded, feeling a little proud of herself. It had been nerve-wracking at first, stepping into a new environment where she felt so out of place, but Maya had been a comforting presence. "Yeah, Maya’s been really helpful. I don’t feel as out of place with her around."
