Chapt 52: Support System

Ashton was taken aback when he heard what Abby had just said. He scrambled to his feet and sat facing the woman who sat leaning against the edge of the bed.

"You didn't mean that, did you, Abby?" asked Ashton again, trying to convince himself that Abigail was probably playing a prank on him, just like she used to do when they were teenagers—Abby used to tease him a lot, but he always managed to get back at her. However, there was no answer from Abigail; she remained still with a sorrowful expression.

"I'm sorry, Ash. I don't want us to end this relationship. You know, I just—" Abigail sighed, looking at her lover's face with a melancholy feeling. "Will you listen to me first?" She adjusted the blanket covering her chest, took her lover's fingers, and kissed them. "I still have some things to do, Ash. For my parents and my brother."
