Peter sat in his study with a glass of brandy with cubes of ice. He stared at the photograph on his desk. " My beautiful Annie, why did you leave me?" a tear slipped his eye. He wiped it away with his silk handkerchief. The emptiness he felt made him cold and angry. How could he feel happy when he lost the love of his life. He had a girl instead of a boy. He felt his world was crumbling before his eyes. He longed to feel her touch and hear her voice. His heart ached for her.
He was already ridiculed by his two brothers for having married poor little Annie. His eldest brother, Andrew, married, Lady Francesca,a beautiful and rich woman. Her father is the chief of security for the president and her mother, a business tycoon in the import and export industry. With this alliance, business was good. His smaller brother Jefferson, married a famous actress, Sierra Mills. Sierra was basically born on a television set. Her parents where famous in the entertainment industry and she started her acting career from the age of one. She was elegant and brought public attention to their business. They both had a son each which were a year apart. Andrew's son Micheal was three years old and Jefferson's son Bradley was two years old. This won great favour from their father Patrick Walters. Their marriages were for money and not for love. Their father had raised them to be business tycoons, and they would do the same to their sons.
Peter gulped down his Brandy and threw the glass against the wall. It shattered, the noise echoed through the passage. All the servants knew the fury of their master and dared not to go close to his study.
"Peter you unlucky b******, you married for love. Poor little Annie. The orphan girl. You loved her endlessly from the day you saw her. But fate has played a nasty trick. Your wife is dead and she left behind a worthless daughter for you" he chuckled under his breath, a cold and mocking laugh. He knew although he would be grieving his siblings would soon rub it in his face. A daughter, like she will ever be capable of running a multi millionaire business.
He couldn't sleep, he couldn't eat, he picked up another glass and filled it with the finest Brandy. This would be his pain killer, his therapy to sooth his wounds. He sat gulping glass after glass thinking about his beloved Annie, regretting deeply, how he could have held her in his arms and said goodbye. He wished he told her how much he loved her. He wished alot of things, things that he could have done and said but he knew it is now too late. It made him bitter and cold. He closed himself off from the world emotionally.
The maid brought Adrianna home. Hearing the glass shatter moments ago she decided to take the infant to her room. She admired the baby. Her soft features were like her mothers. A perfect little nose and plump cheeks. Rosy red lips and delicate fingers. Her hair so golden against her fair skin. Her bright blue eyes watched the maid intently as she fed her milk. After her feed the maid burped her, wrapped her in the pink wooly blanket and rocked her gently. She softly sang a lullaby soothing Adrianna and kissed the top of her head,"You are so precious." Martha cuddled her and held her so tight. Feeling her small body in her arms and hearing her soft breaths, warmed her heart. It was a feeling she could not explain.
Soon Adrianna was asleep and the maid carefully layed her on her soft bed surrounded by pillows. She lay next to Adrianna, closed her eyes praying for her master to open his heart to this precious gem. She deeply wished all the best for Adrianna and promised Annie she will always be there for her little girl.
***4am.****The shrill cry of a infant was ringing throughout the house. Martha, the maid, awoke suddenly and picked up Adrianna and rocked her gently trying to soothe her. The house keeper, Mrs Pots rushed in to the room snatching Adrianna from her arms, instructing her to make her a bottle as master is still asleep. Martha hurriedly walks to the kitchen to prepare a bottle and hands it to Mrs Pots. Adrianna soon calms down drinking her bottle and goes back to sleep. This was new to them.Peter had already risen, hearing the cry. He angrily jumps out of bed and takes a shower. Once he is changed he strides down to the dining room and awaits his breakfast. He is wearing an elegant silver grey suit, a crisp white shirt and a grey tie. His hair is unruly on his head and his face unshaven. After a night of drowning his sorrows he weilds a headache from this unexpected alarm clock. He sits at the large oak table drumming his fingers. The sound can be heard throug
The rain poured down fiercely on the grassy hill top. Peter had chosen a large plot in the private cemetery. They had seperated the land from the other burial plots upon his wishes. It was fenced off with beautiful golden rose designed fences and a small gate. There were red roses planted along the fence line. This was the honorable thing to do for his beloved, he wanted it to be as beautiful as she was . He knew she deserved a respectful send off to the arms of the Lord. Patrick Walters denied him the right of using the family burial garden. He never did accept Annie in life and now definitely not in death. Annie had no family except Peter and their daughter. The Walters family attended as a gesture for their image in the public eye. They knew that this was the current news on television and the paper. All the servants huddled at the far end. Martha craddled Adrianna in her arms under her large black umbrella held up by Russell. They all wept. Annie was loved. She always treated th
Annie was laid to rest. Everyone returned home. Peter returned to his study to drown his sorrows with a bottle of whiskey. Martha took Adrianna to her room.It was 6pm and the house was silent. Suddenly a loud knock on the door startled Mr Russell. He peeped through the looking glass on the door and sees old Mr and Mrs Walters. He quickly opens the door and welcomes them in, escorting them to the large sitting room. They sat on the large grey and red L shaped couch. It was italian style, soft and very comfortable. They looked around while they waited. The room was designed beautifully. Annie had designed it herself, red and grey curtains. Her paintings hung on the wall. Throughout the house were Annie's paintings. All were unique like her, beautiful and elegant. They massive 85 inch flat screen was mounted above their electric fire place. And a small glass coffee table was in front of them, letters lay unopen on it.Old Mrs Walters instructed Russell to colle
A year passes and Adrianna turns one years old. Martha has watched her grow her first tooth, and take her first steps. She is well taken care of in the Walters mansion. Her grandparents, although very dominanting and bossy are fond of Adrianna.Martha takes her to the garden often. Adrianna loves the outdoors. She has taught her colours, shapes, alphabets and numbers. At one year old, she was smart. Adrianna loved learning new things. She could now dress herself. She was now talking as if she was a five year old, full sentences and complicated words. She was advanced for her age. Her grandmother Felicia secretly enjoyed the company of her granddaughter. Old Mr Walters also enjoyed her company but did not show it. Both her grandparents were proud of her and saw potential in her oneday leading their company. But they also knew that they had two other grandchildren with equal intelligence. They were used to her cheerful banter in the mornings.Adrianna secretly stole their he
Sierra explained her plan to the others before they left Old Walters mansion. She felt so cheerful being the one to come up with this bright idea. She looked at all of them, waiting to be praised, but nothing was said. Instead they all concentrated on discussing the plan in finer detail. The next day Andrew and Jefferson went to Peters house. They knocked at the door and Russell let them in. " ah, young masters, what do we owe the pleasure?"Andrew and Jefferson did not beat around the bush,"We are here to see Peter".Russell guided them to the study where Peter sat, sipping glass after glass of the finest whiskey. They entered, welcomed by the smell of stale cigarette smoke and alcohol. It was revolting but they had no choice but to bear the stomach churning smell.Their brother now looked like a homeless man,a mere pauper. His hair is long and knotted, beird unruly and clothes dirty and crumpled. They were disgusted.Andrew walked over to his
After last nights meeting with his brothers, Peter feels as if he is ready to take on the world. He may not like their entire plan but if its going to win back his favour from his parents, he might as well go through with it. After all his beloved is now gone, he might as well reap some benefits fits from her death. He had a long shower, scrubbing every inch of his body with the Old Spice shower gel. Once he had finished, he dried himself and laid on his king sized bed in his towel. He felt clean and hot after the piping hot shower he had a few minutes ago. He switched on the fan and enjoyed the cool air blowing on his skin. His room was large with built-in cupboards leading to a walk in closet which was for Annie and then into a large en-suite. The bathroom had a large jucuzzi bathtub an automatic shower and a floating toilet. He had only used the jucuzzi once since it was installed, and that was with Annie. His brothers had made arrangements last night for the grooming service to gr
With his new look, Peter strode down the staircase. The confidence that he felt was exhilarating. Adrenaline coursed through his veins, he almost felt like leaping down the stairs. He sat at the dining table and read the morning paper. Mrs Pots served him his morning coffee with a large slice of apple pie and a side of crisp bacon. Mrs Pots watched him intently. She knew this transformation was from the meeting last night. She felt it in her gut that something was not quite right but couldn't put her finger on it.Peter finished his breakfast, put on his hat and grabbed his keys for his lincoln, whistling his way out the foor He took the scenic route, stopping along the way to buy three bunches of bright yellow daisy's. Today he would have to win the hearts of his mother, his daughter and Martha. He needed this. He needed to win favour. He needed to gain his status at any cost.Peter parked at the entrance of the Walters mansion. He entered the large wooden sculptured do
" Father, I would like to take Adrianna back home. She may be a handful and I dont want to burden both of you with her. You both should be enjoying your old age togethe". Peter requested. His mother and father looked at each other, they were still very reluctant since this is the first time they had seen him in more than a year" You do not know how to raise a toddler"."Adrianna will need a mother, there are plenty of young woman out there for you to choose a suitable bride for yourself and a mother for your child" Felicia said with concern. Peter knew this was going to be a suggestion, he was already well prepared for it."I have already found a bride. She does not know as yet but I am pretty sure she will not decline my advances towards her" Peter smiled. He gathered up his daisy's along with his charm and walked down the path towards Martha and Adrianna. He sucked in his breath and calmed himself. He needed to be calm. He may not like Adrianna but this show must go on.
