***4am.****
The shrill cry of a infant was ringing throughout the house. Martha, the maid, awoke suddenly and picked up Adrianna and rocked her gently trying to soothe her. The house keeper, Mrs Pots rushed in to the room snatching Adrianna from her arms, instructing her to make her a bottle as master is still asleep. Martha hurriedly walks to the kitchen to prepare a bottle and hands it to Mrs Pots. Adrianna soon calms down drinking her bottle and goes back to sleep. This was new to them.
Peter had already risen, hearing the cry. He angrily jumps out of bed and takes a shower. Once he is changed he strides down to the dining room and awaits his breakfast. He is wearing an elegant silver grey suit, a crisp white shirt and a grey tie. His hair is unruly on his head and his face unshaven. After a night of drowning his sorrows he weilds a headache from this unexpected alarm clock.
He sits at the large oak table drumming his fingers. The sound can be heard throughout the house. He is now impatient. His anger has still not dissolved. Almost five minutes had gone by and his table was still not layed. His butler notices that his master is now agitated and quickly rushes to find Mrs Pots.
At the end of the hall he finds Mrs Pots and Martha with Adrianna and quickly tells them young master is awake and waiting to be served. Mrs Pots carefully gives the butler, Mr George, Adrianna and she takes Martha to the kitchen hurriedly to get breakfast prepared.
They prepare eggs, toast, salad, sausages and meat. Martha and Mrs pots lay the table, adding a large pot of coffee and a white and blue porcelain cup and saucer. Peter looks at them coldly, " So Martha, you have brought it home yesterday. And today it has disturbed my sleep and delayed my breakfast. Keep this in mind, that filthy child must not interfere in your daily chores and disturb my daily routine, that goes for all my household staff!!! ". The air in the room immediately grows cold. His word were sharp like the blade of a samurai sword. They knew they were on thin ice.
Martha and Mrs Pots nodded. They did not dare challenge their master with his decisions. They were unhappy with his coldness towards Adrianna but the sad reality was that they all needed their jobs.
Peter dismissed them to go back to their daily chores and ate his breakfast in silence. Today he had to arrange his wifes funeral. The day he thought would never come so soon. Once he was done, he left.
Mrs Pots called all the staff for a meeting. She was the head housekeeper," We all are saddened by the injustice to Adrianna, but we cannot change our masters mind. The only suggestion I have is to take shifts to watch her and make sure she doesn't cry as it angers the master. Are you all with me?"
The staff all nod. They discussed amongst themselves until each person had a time slot for Adrianna.
Martha took the nights, she felt a deep bond with Adrianna. Being a barren woman, she felt Adrianna was a blessing to her. She silently thanked Annie for the gift. It was her honour to take care of her darling madams child. The rest of the staff split the days amongst themselves. Their chores for the day was split amongst the remaining staff. Everyone pitched in so that void in Adrianna's life could be filled. They did this with the love in their hearts for Adrianna. Her mother was an orphan, they would never wish this life upon her daughter. Even if their master could not see this through his grief, they hoped that one day the love in his heart will be invoked by Adrianna. They only wished him well, for once upon a time he was a cheerful man. No wealth or power could bend his love for simplicity and peace. He was a loving husband, Annie's status never deterred him. He followed his heart even when his parents were against his wishes. He lived his own life on his own terms. He was his own man. They all held hands and prayed for Peter's well being, for God to grant him strength through his hardest days.
Today was the day he needed it the most.
The rain poured down fiercely on the grassy hill top. Peter had chosen a large plot in the private cemetery. They had seperated the land from the other burial plots upon his wishes. It was fenced off with beautiful golden rose designed fences and a small gate. There were red roses planted along the fence line. This was the honorable thing to do for his beloved, he wanted it to be as beautiful as she was . He knew she deserved a respectful send off to the arms of the Lord. Patrick Walters denied him the right of using the family burial garden. He never did accept Annie in life and now definitely not in death. Annie had no family except Peter and their daughter. The Walters family attended as a gesture for their image in the public eye. They knew that this was the current news on television and the paper. All the servants huddled at the far end. Martha craddled Adrianna in her arms under her large black umbrella held up by Russell. They all wept. Annie was loved. She always treated th
Annie was laid to rest. Everyone returned home. Peter returned to his study to drown his sorrows with a bottle of whiskey. Martha took Adrianna to her room.It was 6pm and the house was silent. Suddenly a loud knock on the door startled Mr Russell. He peeped through the looking glass on the door and sees old Mr and Mrs Walters. He quickly opens the door and welcomes them in, escorting them to the large sitting room. They sat on the large grey and red L shaped couch. It was italian style, soft and very comfortable. They looked around while they waited. The room was designed beautifully. Annie had designed it herself, red and grey curtains. Her paintings hung on the wall. Throughout the house were Annie's paintings. All were unique like her, beautiful and elegant. They massive 85 inch flat screen was mounted above their electric fire place. And a small glass coffee table was in front of them, letters lay unopen on it.Old Mrs Walters instructed Russell to colle
A year passes and Adrianna turns one years old. Martha has watched her grow her first tooth, and take her first steps. She is well taken care of in the Walters mansion. Her grandparents, although very dominanting and bossy are fond of Adrianna.Martha takes her to the garden often. Adrianna loves the outdoors. She has taught her colours, shapes, alphabets and numbers. At one year old, she was smart. Adrianna loved learning new things. She could now dress herself. She was now talking as if she was a five year old, full sentences and complicated words. She was advanced for her age. Her grandmother Felicia secretly enjoyed the company of her granddaughter. Old Mr Walters also enjoyed her company but did not show it. Both her grandparents were proud of her and saw potential in her oneday leading their company. But they also knew that they had two other grandchildren with equal intelligence. They were used to her cheerful banter in the mornings.Adrianna secretly stole their he
Sierra explained her plan to the others before they left Old Walters mansion. She felt so cheerful being the one to come up with this bright idea. She looked at all of them, waiting to be praised, but nothing was said. Instead they all concentrated on discussing the plan in finer detail. The next day Andrew and Jefferson went to Peters house. They knocked at the door and Russell let them in. " ah, young masters, what do we owe the pleasure?"Andrew and Jefferson did not beat around the bush,"We are here to see Peter".Russell guided them to the study where Peter sat, sipping glass after glass of the finest whiskey. They entered, welcomed by the smell of stale cigarette smoke and alcohol. It was revolting but they had no choice but to bear the stomach churning smell.Their brother now looked like a homeless man,a mere pauper. His hair is long and knotted, beird unruly and clothes dirty and crumpled. They were disgusted.Andrew walked over to his
After last nights meeting with his brothers, Peter feels as if he is ready to take on the world. He may not like their entire plan but if its going to win back his favour from his parents, he might as well go through with it. After all his beloved is now gone, he might as well reap some benefits fits from her death. He had a long shower, scrubbing every inch of his body with the Old Spice shower gel. Once he had finished, he dried himself and laid on his king sized bed in his towel. He felt clean and hot after the piping hot shower he had a few minutes ago. He switched on the fan and enjoyed the cool air blowing on his skin. His room was large with built-in cupboards leading to a walk in closet which was for Annie and then into a large en-suite. The bathroom had a large jucuzzi bathtub an automatic shower and a floating toilet. He had only used the jucuzzi once since it was installed, and that was with Annie. His brothers had made arrangements last night for the grooming service to gr
With his new look, Peter strode down the staircase. The confidence that he felt was exhilarating. Adrenaline coursed through his veins, he almost felt like leaping down the stairs. He sat at the dining table and read the morning paper. Mrs Pots served him his morning coffee with a large slice of apple pie and a side of crisp bacon. Mrs Pots watched him intently. She knew this transformation was from the meeting last night. She felt it in her gut that something was not quite right but couldn't put her finger on it.Peter finished his breakfast, put on his hat and grabbed his keys for his lincoln, whistling his way out the foor He took the scenic route, stopping along the way to buy three bunches of bright yellow daisy's. Today he would have to win the hearts of his mother, his daughter and Martha. He needed this. He needed to win favour. He needed to gain his status at any cost.Peter parked at the entrance of the Walters mansion. He entered the large wooden sculptured do
" Father, I would like to take Adrianna back home. She may be a handful and I dont want to burden both of you with her. You both should be enjoying your old age togethe". Peter requested. His mother and father looked at each other, they were still very reluctant since this is the first time they had seen him in more than a year" You do not know how to raise a toddler"."Adrianna will need a mother, there are plenty of young woman out there for you to choose a suitable bride for yourself and a mother for your child" Felicia said with concern. Peter knew this was going to be a suggestion, he was already well prepared for it."I have already found a bride. She does not know as yet but I am pretty sure she will not decline my advances towards her" Peter smiled. He gathered up his daisy's along with his charm and walked down the path towards Martha and Adrianna. He sucked in his breath and calmed himself. He needed to be calm. He may not like Adrianna but this show must go on.
***One month later***A bright summers day, every girls dream. For Peters second wedding, he wanted it to be plain and simple, after all this was just an arrangement. Old Mr Walters, did not agree at first but after much coaxing from his family especially Felicia, he agreed. Since it was Martha's first wedding, Felicia went all out. She was in the family for more than 10 years and she cared for Adrianna. She wanted today to be special. She genuinely thought Peter had gotten a new lease on life.It was a garden wedding. All white with a lilac backdrop and lilac overlays. She ordered the finest lily's and a live band to welcome the bride and groom. Adrianna was the flower girl. Her basket was full off lilac petals. In the brides room,Martha was nervous. Her smooth brown hair put up in a loose bun, a few tendrils of hair around her cheeks. Her white sleeveless gown hugged her body. Felicai entered" oh, Martha, you look stunning". She put on her veil and

And in return Patrick Walters had stuck to his.He eventually broke the news to them a week before he could pass away.He had traveled the world with Felicia. He finally took the holiday. He finally spent timw with his wife. He did all the things he wanted to before he closed his eyes. Everyone was heart broken but they now knew that he was safe in the arms of the lord. He had one last and final request and they had honored it.He asked to be buried next to Annie. He knew he could not make amends in this lifetime. But he maybe after death he could.
The lights in the hall went out and everyone gasped. As a blue spot light shone on Adrianna only. The bright light now caught her by surprise. She was startled but held her composure.Although......She felt nervous standing all alone, she looked down and John was no longer in his wheelchair. Alex had also disappeared. She felt scared, her breathing was now frantic and her heart was pounding. Her mind was racing, all the thoughts of losing John flooded her imagination, her hands trembled. She felt she was going to have a nervous breakdown when a song started to play. She was taken out of her frantic mind torture. The song started to soothe her. It was a s

Patrick adorned himself in the finest suit. Black with navy trimmings, a navy tie and a white shirt. He looked handsome for his age. For a dying man he looked happy and healthy. He smiled at himself in the mirror. Felicia was brushing his thinning hair. Today he knew that he would sign over his company to Adrianna. He knew that she was the most suited. She had earned it. Felicia had worn a navy blue dress. It was long sleeved and draped the floor as she walked. Her hair was curled and pinned to one side. And around her neck she wore her wedding jewelry set. A bright blue gem set onto a white gold choker. " You look ravishing my darling", Patrick said as he turned around to look at her. He hated lying to her about his illness but he didn't want anyone's pity. He knew he had just few weeks and after tod
Adrianna reached home after her spa treatment and hair appointment. Her skin glowed like a new born baby. It was soft and supple. Her hair had been put up loosely with curls. Her make up was done plain but simple. Her eyes had a gold evening glow eye shadow with a hint of glitter. Her rosy red cheeks were powdered and blended. And her lips had a blood red lipstick which brought out her beautiful features. She looked at her nails, they were french tipped with red roses on them. She sat on her bed and applied rose scented lotion on her body. The doorbell rang and Adrianna answered it,it was the delivery guy. He had a big box and a boquet of roses and a card, all for her. Adrianna signed and took it excitedly, she knew it could only be from John. She opened the card. It was an invitation for a ball in honour o her. She took the box to the room and opened it. Inside was a white silk gown with red roses on the one sleeve, it was gorgeous, Adrianna held it against her and twirled. Her husband had great taste indeed. It had matching glass slippers and matching under garments. Adrianna's face flushed with embarrasment. She picked up the phone and called John,''Thank you, I simply love it''. John smiled to himself at her response, ''You are most welcome''. There was silence before they bid each other good bye. This ball was at 5pm. Adrianna looked the time , it was 10am. She needed to get to a salon and have her hair and make up professionally done. She wa
Two weeks were up and Lady Francesca and Andrew had returned. They arrived at the Walters mansion like a newly wed couple. ''Good morning Father, Good morning mother'', They greeted as they walked through the door. Patrick stood in shock, they were different. They had learned manners. Adrianna was there to welcome them. They hugged her tightly thanking her. Adrianna smiled, they had really changed. Jefferson and Sierra had also arrived and Andrew and his wife embraced them in warm hugs. They all thanked Adrianna. ''The person you need to thank is John. He had done all this to bring us all together as one big happy family'', Adrianna said. ''Let us all surprise him with a visit'', Sierra said. They all agreed and left to the hospital. As they all went into John's room they brought him gifts and were roudy. John looked at them confused. He wondered why they had all come. They dropped gift
Adrianna knew that that this week was going to be the toughest for some of her family members. Jefferson was gone to rehab, Sierra started acting again and Bradley was at work. Lady Francesca and Andrew had gone off to their couples retreat, leaving Michael at the Walters Mansion. Adrianna decided that she would start spending more time with her grandfather. She went to the kitchen and cut fruit slices. She walked out into the garden where she found Patrick sitting on the bench. Adrianna sat down next to him and offered hima fruit slice. Taking a slice of apple he started to talk,'' I don't know why I just could not accept her. She was so innocent and so pure. Humble and kind. Everything we were not, everything my children were not. Everything I had taught them were wrong. I don't know why I denied her space in the family burial plot''. At that moment Adrianna knew he was talking aboy her mother. ''I deeply regret everything, her
