Eden felt herself being tackled from behind and she fell face-first to the floor, and from the corner of her eyes, she saw the same happening to Natalia, Grace, and Sophia. She did not know what this was happening but she knew it had something to do with the Mason brothers because she could see their outline in the smoke, sitting perfectly still, not flinching even once, as if they knew this would happen. Suddenly, a cloth was pressed against her face with a strange smell and she felt lightheaded, slowly drifting off into the blackness.
_____________
About an hour later, Eden woke up, feeling a stinging pain in her hands, back, and ankles. It took her a minute to gain full consciousness of her surroundings. She was in a chair, tied the same way the Masons were tied. She looked around her and saw her three friends tied on chairs the same way. Sophia was looking at her with teary eyes but Natalia and Grace were still knocked out cold.
“Kidnapping. Drugging without consent. Infliction of bodily harm. Threat to life. Do you know how many years you would spend in jail if we press charges on you? Even your bigshot dad won’t be able to save you,” said the familiar voice, the same deep voice that sent shivers down her spine. She looked up to see Bennett and Theo, now without masks, looking at her.
Eden never thought it would come to this. She could feel Sophia’s glare at her. She took a deep breath, plastered a smirk on her lips, and said, “Aw but I thought you were enjoying that kiss.”
Theo chuckles behind Bennett, earning a glare from his brother. Bennett was shocked, Eden was in no position to make jokes given her situation.
“Why did you do it? Who hired you?” said Bennett, ignoring her comment.
“Obama.”
“Fine, you can either cooperate and tell me everything or you and your little friends can spend half your lives in the confines of a jail,” Bennett threatens Eden, hoping to break her attitude.
“Oh for Christ’s sake Eden just tell him, our futures are at stake here and you can’t have enough of being an asshole,” Sophia shrieked at Eden, she has had enough of her stubbornness. When Eden stared blankly ahead, not responding to her, Sophia decided to do it herself. “Her father is making her marry an old creepy dude and that is why she decided to kidnap you and accidentally kidnapped your brother as well. She intended to force you to marry her and pay his father money so he can stop forcing her to marry the guy. Sir, I beg you to understand that they are nothing but foolish little-.”
“Wow that has got to be THE stupidest thing I have ever heard,” Theo said in genuine disbelief, while Bennett just stood watching Eden, trying to make sense of everything.
"Considering how amateur you were in your‘ kidnapping’, I suppose no one would actually hire you to do this. I believe you,” Bennet said to Sophia. “However, this was still a grave mistake on your part, do not think we will let this slide without consequences.”
Eden muttered under her breath, ‘I would like to slide something else up your-’
“What’s that now?” Bennett asked Eden, daring her to complete her sentence. Eden knew better than to do that and didn’t say anything. “I see that stupid as you may be, all four of you are resourceful and rich. At the cost of us keeping our mouth shut about this incident, you owe me a favour, any favour at any time of my choosing.”
“I will do it, but keep my friends out of it. I planned all of it and this is my responsibility,” Eden said, finally giving up on her pride for the sake of saving her friends.
A grunt comes from Grace’s mouth, she opens her eyes to look at her surroundings, her friends all tied to a chair and the Mason brothers standing ahead, staring down at them.
“If that isn’t the masked beauty herself,” Theo smirked at her. “Oh, how the tables have turned. Tell you what, I’m gonna need one favour from this one too. She’s the one who drugged me.”
“You sick son of a bitch,” Grace ground her teeth, giving a murderous glare to Theo.
“That’s enough Theo, let me deal with this,” Bennett said sternly to him.
“Yeah you should, I don’t have time to deal with idiots,” Theo’s eyes scanned Grace’s body head to toe as he said this. “I’ll go upstairs to check on their dead bodyguards.”
The colour on Eden’s face drained when she heard the word ‘dead’. They were guarding the penthouse while the girls and the Mason brothers were in the basement. Two of Grace’s men and two of Eden's, four big, armed men guarding the place were apparently killed by Mason’s guards, as Theo said. Eden never thought any of it would go this far. She felt nauseous and her head started spiralling.
“Y-you killed my guards?”
“No, my brother has a habit of exaggerating. They are not dead, just knocked out, like you four were,” Bennett explained. “But if you had done this to the wrong person, they might as well be dead, including all of you.”
Eden had her doubts about how calm and generous Bennett was being with them.
“I will let all of you go and this will not reach the police, since this was nothing but a stupid act,” Bennett said calmly. “But to make sure this does not happen to anyone else, my men will keep an eye on you. And you and this girl still owe me and my brother a favour.”
Grace was listening to everything in disbelief, her mind still light-headed from the chloroform they used to drug them. She felt a wave of sudden anger towards Theo, not because he had her drugged and tied to a chair, (ironic because that’s exactly what she did to him) but because she thought she had lost to him in this ‘abduction’ battle.
“Your guards will wake up in about ten minutes and come for your rescue, we will leave this place now,” Bennett turned to leave but stopped right before the stairs and turned around to look Eden dead in her eyes, and smirked.
“And for the record, I did enjoy that kiss.”
Eden stared at the ceiling of her room, lying on the bed with her hands and legs lying limp on the soft bedsheet. She kept thinking about what happened a week ago in the penthouse. It was established at that point that she cannot kidnap anyone else, she had learned the lesson. Sophia was still not talking to her and Natalia was still freaked out and acting distant from everyone. Only Grace understood what this meant for Eden. She would either have to marry Carter or run away and give up all the luxury that was so dear to her.Eden recalls her phone call conversation with Grace a day ago.‘It can’t be that bad, you’ll just have to bear the old sack until he dies and then you will basically be a queen,’ said Grace.‘If you know me at all, you know I will never give my father the satisfaction of making me waste my life on someone I don’t love,’ Eden replied. ‘Besides I don’t want the entire world to think that I am a gold digger.’‘Which you actually are,’ Grace said jokingly.‘Bitch, I’
“Marry me.”Eden was too shocked to say anything. Did he really ask me to marry him?“Don’t get flattered Miss Brown, it’s not like I like you romantically. After what you did, I should be disgusted by you.”“But you’re not. Why aren’t you?” Eden asked, her brain unable to process the situation completely.“You’re really beautiful.”What is even happening?“And young and rich. I need you to be my wife. I can assure you that I have no sexual or romantic intentions. This is nothing more than a temporary solution to both our problems. If I recall correctly, you wanted to marry me too, yes?”Eden could not believe how well this had worked out, but she felt humiliated that things did not go the way she had planned, she wanted to be in control. She felt a surge of anger about the fact that she is the one who is being blackmailed into getting married. She knew well that if she refused, Bennett could easily expose her and ruin her reputation. “Why do you want to marry me? You know my issues,
Like hell, I am going to think about this. How dare he insult me like that. I don't care if I go to jail, at least I won’t be marrying this motherfu-Eden’s thoughts are cut short when a young but tall and muscular man, dressed in all black steps in front of Eden, stopping her from exiting the building of Mason’s apartment complex. She swallows and tilts her head upwards to look at the man’s face. He was the same man who picked her up from her home. She vividly remembered someone of his stature entering the penthouse before she went unconscious.“And what do you think you are doing?” Asks Eden.“Don’t you need a ride home, Miss?” the man asked. His nametag read Buddy.“Listen Buddy boy, if you do not get out of my way this instant you will be the one needing a ride to the hospital.”Buddy’s eyes were hidden under black sunglasses, but Eden could tell they were amused. He smiled and moved aside, motioning her to go ahead. She walks out of the building and towards the main road to catch
“He asked you to marry him?” Grace asks, befuddles. “Why would he do that?”“It’s supposed to help him with business or something, but that’s not important. He does not want any sort of romantic strings attached, it’ll all be just on paper,” Eden replied and then explained what Bennett had told her. She walks back to the bathtub and submerges herself once again.“Well, that worked out beautifully. Wasn’t that your goal all along?”“Yes but….” Eden couldn’t think of a single reason why she should not do this.“But?” Grace urged.“I don’t know, Grace,” Eden says, tracing her finger around the outline of her knee peeking out of the water.“Did he do something to you? Do you have any reason to think that he might hurt you?”“No, in fact, he has been nice to me, except he thinks that I am stupid,” Eden replies.“I don’t see that a problem. I mean it is perfectly valid why he would think that. What we did was pretty stupid,” Grace chuckled. “But it does not mean that he wants to harm you. H
“You took your sweet time. You know I barely have time to even sit idle for a minute,” said Alfred Brown, not looking at Eden as she walked down the stairs. “Oh, I’m sorry I thought that you being unavailable for almost the entirety of my life meant you can handle my absence for a few more minutes,” Eden smiled sarcastically.“I am not here to play games. Take a seat this is important,” Alfred’s voice had no emotion, he simply did not care for being there longer than it needed to be.“Lovely as ever, Dad.”Alfred kept staring at his phone until Eden was seated across from him on the couch. He kept his phone in the pocket of his expensive Armani suit, now staring directly at Eden, who sat with her arms crossed, awaiting whatever absurd order he was about to give her.“I am here to make sure that we are on the same page regarding your marriage with Carter. I want no drama, no indecency, and no petty complaints from you,” said Alfred.Eden, at this point, had no hope that her father was
Grace’s Arc“Well, whatever you say, It’s Saturday night, so I better go find something sexy to wear, ugh. See ya,” Grace says to Eden and hung up.She walks into her walk-in closet to look for a dress to wear tonight. She was not very excited to meet Theo after what had happened. Sure he was a decent-looking, handsome man, but Grace knew that he was up to no good. She called her personal bodyguard and told him that she needed him to be extra alert tonight. Sebastian, her guard, was a strict and diligent man, Grace knew she could depend on him. Grace picked a light pink, sequin dress with thin straps. It fit her well enough to accentuate her curves perfectly. She did some light make-up, she didn’t need much, her face’s features were enough to make her look beautiful. She left her wavy hair loose and wore a black high-heeled stiletto. Let’s get this over with. She looked at the address of the club Theo had texted her. It was one of the most heavily packed clubs in the city. She was r
Grace’s ArcTheo did not want to let go of Grace. He had not intended for this to happen, he never wanted to make her feel like this was the only thing he wanted from her. He only wanted to see more of her, but apparently, his subconscious had other plans. He placed one hand on her waist, pulling her closer, and another on her cheek.Grace, too, had never imagined that this would happen. The day they had danced for the first time, Grace had felt a tinge of attraction for him but chose to ignore it for Eden’s sake. She was intoxicated not so much that she was out of her senses. She knew exactly what she was doing and it was her own will, or at least that’s what she thought, that made her fingers run through Theo’s thick brown hair and kiss him like it was the only thing in the world to do.Before either of them could go any further, Grace felt Theo pulling away from her. She opened her eyes to see why he was stopping, only he wasn’t. Sebastian, one of Grace’s guards had Theo in his hol
Bennett puts his hand around Eden’s shoulder and looks at her, smiling. “You want to tell it this time, babe?”Eden looked at him like she was going to swallow him whole. This goddamn piece of shit.“No, babe, I want you to tell it,” Grace fake smiled at Bennett.“Well alright then,” said Bennett and looked towards Alfred. “We met at a party for the first time. It was a mere coincidence that Eden decided to sit next to me. And well, I was absolutely intoxicated by her beauty, it was so addictive I felt like I was drugged, nearly lost all my senses. And then we got to know each other and fell in love. I’ll tell you, Mr. Brown, she really had me trapped the moment I met her.”Eden’s face was going red. He was indirectly talking about the kidnapping. “Oh, isn’t that so romantic,” Alfred commented. His eyes were glistening will happiness but all Eden saw were dollar signs instead of his pupils. “Eden, run along now. Let the men talk.”“What is it, the 18th Century?” chuckled Bennett and
