“He asked you to marry him?” Grace asks, befuddles. “Why would he do that?”
“It’s supposed to help him with business or something, but that’s not important. He does not want any sort of romantic strings attached, it’ll all be just on paper,” Eden replied and then explained what Bennett had told her. She walks back to the bathtub and submerges herself once again.
“Well, that worked out beautifully. Wasn’t that your goal all along?”
“Yes but….” Eden couldn’t think of a single reason why she should not do this.
“But?” Grace urged.
“I don’t know, Grace,” Eden says, tracing her finger around the outline of her knee peeking out of the water.
“Did he do something to you? Do you have any reason to think that he might hurt you?”
“No, in fact, he has been nice to me, except he thinks that I am stupid,” Eden replies.
“I don’t see that a problem. I mean it is perfectly valid why he would think that. What we did was pretty stupid,” Grace chuckled. “But it does not mean that he wants to harm you. He was very decent to us the time we met at your penthouse, I had no hope that he would just let us go without punishing us. I mean, yes there are those favors they want from us but at least we are free, and not their captives.”
Eden thinks about it for a while and grunts in defeat. “Speaking of favors, what did Theo want from you?”
Grace seemed to have forgotten why she was angry in the beginning. “Oh, that jerk, I can’t believe his audacity. If I could I would kill him with my bare hands. Oh, I would love to take that smart mouth of his and-”
“Okay we know you want to torture him, but why? What did he say to you?” Eden asks.
“He asked me to go clubbing with him every weekend for a month and he said I have to look ‘sexy’. I mean, what am I? An escort service? How dare he say that to me.”
“Well, I don’t really see how that is a problem. You go out partying almost every weekend anyway,” Eden tries to make her anger lessen.
“Yes but not with someone like him, you know that. What if he tries to do something to me?”
“Then lay your rules to him, tell him any intimacy is off-limits. And if he tries something without your consent, you will have a ton of your bodyguards around you. Just get it over with,” Eden suggests. “I know it’s not something you would like. But you and I both do not have a say in this, we did mess up badly. I am really sorry Grace.”
Grace sighs. “I suppose there is no other option. And don’t you dare apologize, I would do it all over again if it meant saving you from that monster, Carter.”
“Thank you for everything Grace, but I know better than to put you through this again. Sophia and Natalie are still MIA?” Eden asks sadly.
“Yeah, but they’ll come around.” Grace replies. “Now about Bennett Mason. I did look him up on G****e and I cannot deny that he got one hell of a physique. I suppose this marriage can bring you some pleasure at least.”
Eden could hear Grace smirking through the phone. She was only teasing her, but a moment of images flashed in her mind. Bennett’s body over hers, and their lips once again attached to each other. She thought of the time he had walked over to her to help her open his apartment door. He was so tall and muscular, his body hovering over hers, his cologne spread in the air around her, and the tip of his fingers touching her hand as he handed her the key.
“Eden? Hello? Are you there?” Grace’s voice broke her out of her trance.
“Huh? What?” Eden asks, trying to shake off the unholy images from her mind, mentally scolding herself.
“I asked what will be the, uh, bedding situation after you’re married?” Grace teased.
“Cut it out, idiot. It’ll be nothing like that. I don’t want him to touch me ever,” Eden replies nervously, not knowing if she really meant those words.
“Well, whatever you say, It’s Saturday night, so I better go find something sexy to wear, ugh. See ya.”
“Bye,” Eden hangs up the call and gets out of the tub to dry off.
She walks over to her bed and lies down on it, wearing nothing but an untied bathrobe.
And yet, once again, thoughts of Bennett kissing her at the club came back to her mind. She didn’t want to think about it. She felt that it was wrong to think about him like that. But her imagination went out of control and she started thinking about what would have happened if they took things further than that. What if she never drugged him, what if he took her back to his apartment, what if he touched her more around her waist, her torso, her hips, and her thighs. Her hands started to wander around her thighs, sliding further up.
Before she could go any further, she hears a knock on her door. She scuttles around to close the front of her bathrobe and sits straight, in a decent position.
“Come in.”
A housemaid walks in to inform her that her father is back home and wishes to see her in the living room.
“What does that old bat want now?”
The maid gave her a sorry smile, and said, “I don’t know Miss Brown, he just asked for you.”
“Tell him I will be right there,” says Eden.
She felt pathetic thinking about what she would have done if the housemaid hadn’t knocked. She made a mental promise to herself to never let her mind wander in that direction ever as she got up and started getting dressed for the meeting with her father.
“You took your sweet time. You know I barely have time to even sit idle for a minute,” said Alfred Brown, not looking at Eden as she walked down the stairs. “Oh, I’m sorry I thought that you being unavailable for almost the entirety of my life meant you can handle my absence for a few more minutes,” Eden smiled sarcastically.“I am not here to play games. Take a seat this is important,” Alfred’s voice had no emotion, he simply did not care for being there longer than it needed to be.“Lovely as ever, Dad.”Alfred kept staring at his phone until Eden was seated across from him on the couch. He kept his phone in the pocket of his expensive Armani suit, now staring directly at Eden, who sat with her arms crossed, awaiting whatever absurd order he was about to give her.“I am here to make sure that we are on the same page regarding your marriage with Carter. I want no drama, no indecency, and no petty complaints from you,” said Alfred.Eden, at this point, had no hope that her father was
Grace’s Arc“Well, whatever you say, It’s Saturday night, so I better go find something sexy to wear, ugh. See ya,” Grace says to Eden and hung up.She walks into her walk-in closet to look for a dress to wear tonight. She was not very excited to meet Theo after what had happened. Sure he was a decent-looking, handsome man, but Grace knew that he was up to no good. She called her personal bodyguard and told him that she needed him to be extra alert tonight. Sebastian, her guard, was a strict and diligent man, Grace knew she could depend on him. Grace picked a light pink, sequin dress with thin straps. It fit her well enough to accentuate her curves perfectly. She did some light make-up, she didn’t need much, her face’s features were enough to make her look beautiful. She left her wavy hair loose and wore a black high-heeled stiletto. Let’s get this over with. She looked at the address of the club Theo had texted her. It was one of the most heavily packed clubs in the city. She was r
Grace’s ArcTheo did not want to let go of Grace. He had not intended for this to happen, he never wanted to make her feel like this was the only thing he wanted from her. He only wanted to see more of her, but apparently, his subconscious had other plans. He placed one hand on her waist, pulling her closer, and another on her cheek.Grace, too, had never imagined that this would happen. The day they had danced for the first time, Grace had felt a tinge of attraction for him but chose to ignore it for Eden’s sake. She was intoxicated not so much that she was out of her senses. She knew exactly what she was doing and it was her own will, or at least that’s what she thought, that made her fingers run through Theo’s thick brown hair and kiss him like it was the only thing in the world to do.Before either of them could go any further, Grace felt Theo pulling away from her. She opened her eyes to see why he was stopping, only he wasn’t. Sebastian, one of Grace’s guards had Theo in his hol
Bennett puts his hand around Eden’s shoulder and looks at her, smiling. “You want to tell it this time, babe?”Eden looked at him like she was going to swallow him whole. This goddamn piece of shit.“No, babe, I want you to tell it,” Grace fake smiled at Bennett.“Well alright then,” said Bennett and looked towards Alfred. “We met at a party for the first time. It was a mere coincidence that Eden decided to sit next to me. And well, I was absolutely intoxicated by her beauty, it was so addictive I felt like I was drugged, nearly lost all my senses. And then we got to know each other and fell in love. I’ll tell you, Mr. Brown, she really had me trapped the moment I met her.”Eden’s face was going red. He was indirectly talking about the kidnapping. “Oh, isn’t that so romantic,” Alfred commented. His eyes were glistening will happiness but all Eden saw were dollar signs instead of his pupils. “Eden, run along now. Let the men talk.”“What is it, the 18th Century?” chuckled Bennett and
Eden kept pacing around her room on Monday morning. She knew his father and Bennett were in a meeting at that exact moment. If the deal is off between the for some reason, she would be in a lot of trouble. What if I just steal some money and run from here? I am 18 now after all. But no, no my father will have the entire police department looking for me. I need to talk to Sophia, she always knows what to do.Grace picks up her phone and dials Sophia, hoping she was no longer mad at her.“What?” Sophia’s tone indicated she was clearly upset.“Man, you can’t seriously still be angry,” Eden whined.“Oh, yeah of course. Why would I be? It’s not like you almost got me killed.”“Oh come on. We’re all safe, aren’t we?” Eden was getting irritated at all the complaining, but she knew she had no place, knowing that she did get her in a lot of trouble. “Listen, all I need right now is your help. I promise there will be no more crazy schemes and dangerous plans. I am really stuck right now.”Soph
Eden waited in anticipation in the living room as she heard her father’s car pull into the driveway. Her palms were sweaty from nervousness. Her future depended on what happened in the meeting between her father and Bennett. She stands up as she sees her father entering the room. “Well? What happened?” “What happened is,” Alfred looks at her and pauses. “You got yourself a new fiance.” Somehow, Eden was washed over with both relief and nervousness. Relieved because she does not have to marry Carter anymore and nervous because she is going to be seeing a lot more of Bennett now. She could no longer deny that she was physically attracted to him but she knew she would never show it to him, after all, all he needed was her to be his pretend wife with no real feelings. “So what are you going to say to Carter?” asked Eden. “That is not your business. Turns out I will be providing much more efficient services to the Masons, and their project can be initiated soon. So your wedding will
Once again, Eden found herself anticipating the arrival of a man in her living room. It was almost 5, the time at which Bennett said he would be coming. Eden was feeling anxious, not because of the future, but because she was worried her feelings of arousal may surface unannounced once again. I have no reason to be attracted to Bennett, Eden thought. It does not matter that he has the most chiseled, muscular but lean body, a smooth and deep voice, and oh, those thick jungle of hair and that jawline-*ding ding*The doorbell rang, making Eden want to punch herself for getting lost again in her fantasies. He’s still a jerk and I don’t like him, she reminded herself as she walked over to the door. She sighed before opening it.Bennett stood there with a smile and a bouquet of roses. Eden looked at him ludicrously. Why did he bring flowers?Eden gestured him inside, and he walked in after handing the roses to her. “These are for you.”“Um, thanks?” said Eden, closing the door.“Don’t worr
Bennett strummed the guitar. It still sounded wrong and made buzzy noises.“Yeah you are going to need to practice, you’re not pressing the strings hard enough on the fretboard,” said Eden, trying to hide the red in her ears.“With a teacher like you, I’m sure I'll learn in no time,” Bennett smiled, a smile that almost made Eden melt. He keeps the guitar aside and says, “Before, I go, I want to apologize for making those comments on your intelligence. I know that you must have had a tough time with your father. What you did was just a survival instinct, and I respect you for taking a stand.”Eden nodded, looking down at her thighs. She felt like he was condescending to her because she knew that what she did was, in fact, stupid. Her anger toward him surfaced once again. She did not know why she kept getting angry at him for the smallest things. She took a deep breath and looked at Bennett, and said, “Well thank you for your kind words, I would have not known that I was taking a stand
