Lyla’s POV
“Work on the samples immediately and let me know the result of your experimentations right away,” I ordered the two doctors before pulling the surgical gloves from my hands and throwing them in the nearest trash bin.
Then, we all headed out of the room.
Walking the empty hallway of my secret laboratory with the sound of my clicking heels hitting the tiled floor, I could not help the grin spreading across my face.
All my plans are slowly taking shape.
After my experiments come through, I will dispose of Erin and her worthless mother. Then, with Gavyn’s help, I will ditch my worthless mate, too.
The Red Stone Pack could not serve two masters. And Boris will definitely have to go. That is after I also plan my dear Father's untimely death.
I am clearing the path to my own success - running over anyone who will block my way.
I got out of the secret la
Lyla’s POVI shoved Boris out of the way and ran toward the secret room where I kept Erin and her mother. This couldn’t be happening. I am so close to my goal. I could not allow anything to hamper my plans. It is unthinkable.“No!”I cried so hard when I saw them both gone. My hands shook. Without thinking, I swung it back and forth, flinging everything in my sight. My chest heaved in so much anger. When I stopped, the whole place was in chaos. Everything was turned upside down.“How did they escape?” I asked Boris after I fully vented out. My chest heaves in between heavy panting.Boris’s eyes darted to the side. He refused to meet my gaze, which was quite telling.Eyes narrowed into slits, I watched him when he recounted his version of what had happened. My ears strained for clues.&ldqu
Alaric’s POV“What were you talking about?” Erin asked when she stopped a few inches away from me.Seeing the happy look on her face, I could not help but grab her hips and draw her close to me. I rested my head on her flat tummy. She, on the other hand, wraps her arms around my neck.“My Alpha wants something," she whispered huskily. Her voice was so low that only I could hear.Casting a warm gaze on our son sleeping contentedly in his stroller, I mumbled for her ears only.“I want another pup,” I told her.Erin looked shocked. She pulled my head away from her belly to lift my chin. Our gazes met.“Are you serious, or are you jealous?” She teased, motioning her head in the direction of my Beta and his chosen mate. Her face took on a softened expression when she watched them cozy and lost in thei
Erin’s POVI peeked at the gap through the slightly ajar door of the ward room where my mother currently undergoes a check-up by Dr. Martin. Medical staff in white lab gowns surrounded her, so she could not see me loitering outside her room. Alaric had been inside, talking to her, but I could not move my feet to follow him. Wiping my palms on the front of my jeans, I kept stealing glances inside. Then, the medical staff cleared, and the only people left inside the room were Dr. Martin and Alaric. Mother looks tired and frail. I saw her nod or shake her head in response to Alaric’s questions, but her eyes darted around like she was looking for someone. Finally, her hands lifted. She placed them on Alaric’s to get his attention. At once, Alaric stopped talking. She mouthed something, but I could barely hear her. Then I saw Alaric nod once as if in reassurance. I saw my mate head out in my direction, adding to my nervousness. Alaric opened the door, and I jumped back in surprise
Erin’s POVI was roused from a deep sleep when Alaric moved. Then, I heard the rustle of sheets.“What time is it?” I asked groggily.Alaric patted my cheek. “It’s still early. Go back to sleep.” He coaxed me gently. My ears strained for any sounds from Cirala’s cot, surprised when I looked at the time. It was about this time that Cirala would wake up for his feeding.I sat up, too, watching Alaric as he zipped his pants. He then took a fresh shirt from the drawer and pulled it over his hairy chest.“Where are you going?”He looked hurried and worried.“Fabian sent word. His coven is being attacked by dissenters under Gavyn, and he needs our help.” He told me.It sent me an alarm. “How is Fabian? Has he fully recovered?” Regret laced my voice.
Alaric’s POVWe barely reached the border when boulders started raining on us. They rolled from the top of the mountains in succession at a speed that surprised us.We did not expect the enemy to start early. We have not left our territory yet, but the enemy uses our location against us to pin us down. For a while, we had been busy dodging speeding giant rocks. They were fast, but we were faster. My men trained for these kinds of things. We use our senses to detect danger faster than any other creature.Smoke billowed around us. Dust stings our eyes.It was like an avalanche of giant rocks coming from all sides.“We have to take cover,” I told Ben and the others. The area we are in is like a catch basin circled with slopes. We are on the low point, and every time a boulder rolls down, it creates an ear-splitting sound like the rocks were protesting fr
Erin’s POV“Were you able to get in touch with Ben?” I called Emma to my room, worried because I could not go through Alaric.“I had been trying countless times to open the mind link so I could get word from Alaric, but I could not reach him.” I shook my head sadly, anxious that until now, I did not receive any word from my mate.“The waiting is killing me.” I confided in Emma, who nodded at me in agreement. She, too, had not received any word from Ben.“Where could they be?” I paced the room. My fingers lifted to my temple as I tried to establish a connection with Alaric.I attempted so many times to open the mind link. It was futile. Nothing happened. It remained close, and Alaric was unresponsive.Alaric’s last message was the cocky reminder where he warned me to ravage me when he comes back from their mission. I had wai
“Bring my mate home and the rest of his crew alive, and I will do as you say,” I told my condition before agreeing to her demands. If Lyla would be brazen to bargain with me, what makes her think I will be constrain into keeping the deal one-sided? I have to, at least, have something in return. The old Erin who takes cudgels for her sister is gone. In her place is someone who knows her way to fight back. The hardships I endured made me stronger and hopefully wiser not to become putty in other people’s hands, especially those with a track record for greed and self-aggrandizement. Alaric told me that it’s not a sin to fight for your rights, and right now, I am fighting for my family, for my son to live his future in peace.“And what if I didn’t?” Lyla challenged, breaking into my trance. I eyed the sardonic smirk lacing Lyla's lip
Alaric’s POV“Hmmm,” Erin grunted when I tugged on the blanket under her. After freeing the blanket, I laid it out over her body. Then I got inside to join her, letting the warmth of the comforter and our pressed skin warm our bodies. After our intense lovemaking, we had forgotten to get dressed, and the air around the room had become chilly.I pulled Erin’s head to my chest, and she automatically put an arm around my waist. We stayed like that for a long time.Erin lifted her head from its comfy position in the center of my chest to murmur.“Sleep.” Then she patted my back before resuming her position wrapped inside my arms.I inhaled her sweet lavender scent and felt my heart constrict.Erin and our baby almost lost me. I thought I would not be coming back alive after being tricked by a supposedly weak and helpless warlock.
