Smith’s POV
Melissa was starting to regain consciousness. I have determined to end them today, even if it means my demise.
However, I have prepared ship for my escape. Once am done with them, I will leave Winster county for good. Probably live off the grid for the rest of my life.
“Camilla, you are obviously wondering what you did wrong? What you did wrong was protecting the son of my mortal enemy: Emma.”
Mrs Stewart’s POV
I don’t know how Emma is the son of Smith’s enemy. I only know that his parents died, then we adopted him. They were Charles best friend.
“Emma’s father use to be my friend in college. But he was the one that spread rumors in school about me. He even narrated that he heard it from Melissa. You know, I dropped out of college because of that.”
By this time, he was hitting his head slightly with his palm as though to forget something or recall something. His face was very dark.
Then he asked me: “how com
Kayla’s POV “Okay, we are back. Let’s catch-up!” Looking at the bumps on his face I stifled a smile. He sure looks pitiful. “You and I know that you can’t wriggle out of this…” “I want a lawyer,” he said. Even though getting a lawyer is the fundamental human right. I felt like smacking his mouth. “So, after all the crimes you have committed; you are demanding a lawyer?” I was getting frustrated. Tanner’s POV I want to stall time as much as I can. Demanding for a lawyer is my way of stalling time. I don’t know what to do again. As I was thinking about what to do, an elderly man walked inside the interrogation room. He looked familiar, I was wondering where I knew him from. I remembered seeing him near old Morgan at the press conference. “My name is Tom, an agent.” This cleared all my doubts. I will never forget that name my whole life. There are two names I vowed never to forget: Morgan and Tom. “
Tanner’s POV If not because I was handcuffed, I was going to kill him and myself. He is even advising me. “You and Morgan were the reason that got me in this mess in the first place,” I said to him. Stanley’s POV Both of them have been in there now for 10 minutes. In as much as I appreciate their catching up. My concern is with the present. “Emma, remember that time is key in rescue mission. Tell agent Tom to be faster.” Emma’s POV I know and understand what Stanley was worried about. Thankfully I gave agent Tom a device for communication. “Remember that time is fast going,” I said to him. His ear twitched in acknowledgement of what I have said. Agent Tom’s POV I understand Emma’s point, but I have to tread carefully; if I want to obtain the information. Vin’s POV We have tried to use the phone we found on him to track Smith. Unfortunately, it is a burner phone. Our only hope now
Emma’s POV Agent Tom persuaded Tanner to give us the address of the place where they have been held hostage. He gave us the address. It was an abandoned warehouse at the outskirts of Winster county. “Kate and Stanley you guys should stay back and wait for us,” I instructed. Then I, agent Tom, Kayla and Vin went for the rescue mission. When we got there, we saw that the door was slightly opened. Vin kicked the door open an I aimed at Smith’s arm. Luckily he couldn’t react on time to miss it. Kayla’s POV I quickly called the ambulance. Mrs Stewart and Emily were the only ones that were still conscious. Melissa and Mr Stewart were unconscious when we got there. The medic came and transferred them to Winster county PD. Finally, Smith was arrested by Vin. Vin’s POV At this point I literally cried. This is the man that caused the death of Old Morgan. Even though we was shot, no mercy was shown to him.
Stanley’s POV I drove at the speed of light. I want to see Emily. I kept feeling guilty, “what if I had stayed back.” That is no longer important. I have to go there and be there for them. Kate was occasionally startled from the various reversals I have been making. Kate’s POV I am cool headed at least. Stanley on the other was driving like a mad man. Finally we reached Winster county hospital in one piece. I thanked my stars. We took the elevator to emergency. Dr Amanda was there. She was obviously waiting for me. “Amanda, how is she?” I asked. “She is doing great so far,” she replied. Even though she is a gynecologist, being a senior doctor in Winster county hospital. She probably knows a bit of everything. It was like I completely forgot about uncle Charles and auntie Camilla ordeals. I stood there looking at Melissa. She was still unconscious. Stanley’s POV I quickly asked the nurses for direction, I was dir
Kayla’s POV I vividly recalled that this case was one of the reasons Emma was demoted some time ago and sent back to Winster county PD as a punishment. He has always been obsessed with finding the culprit of his parents' murder. I was angry as well. But the man we are dealing with is not a normal human but a monster. The next thing he said almost made me throw up. “The cries of your mother Theresa as I slit her throat was very sexy.” In a lightning speed, Emma already seated on him raining punch after punch. The weirdest thing was that he was still laughing. “What sort of human being is this?” He has no humanity at all. Vin’s POV I heard everything going on inside. I was surprised but satisfied with the beating Emma was dishing out to him. Agent Tom’s POV I have handled a similar case before. I know that this kind of people are not easy to break. They would do anything to make you lose your temper. I kno
Kate’s POV When I woke up, the nurse was already in the room for round check-up. I wiped my face. Melissa was already awake but she was weak. She kept repeating a name “Max…Max.” I kept wondering who Max was. “She suffered from mental shock,” the doctor explained. “She will be better after a good best rest,” he said assuringly. Emily’s POV I woke up and found Stanley sleeping by bed side. I was very happy watching him sleep. I kept wondering what would have happened if was not able to see him again. I caressed his hair. He woke up and looked at me with eyes full of longing. We both hugged each other. I kept crying on his shoulders. “Babe, nothing will happen to you, I am here.” Stanley’s POV I was pleasantly surprised that Emily was already up. We both hugged each other. Considering what happened yesterday, I vowed to never leave her side again. “I will not leave you to yourself again babe.” “Let
Emma’s POV I checked my watch, it was already 10am. Damnit! I am already late. I immediately excused myself. I have to go the station. On getting to the station, I saw the mayor in front of the office. The reporters were hounding her. I smiled and sneaked into the office. Mayor’s POV The governor has been on my neck since. I don’t even what to do. I have escaped from the reporters before when Smith was still on the run. Now that he was arrested, I planned to keep a low-profile. I made enquiry and I was told that the reporters were at the station yesterday night. I presumed that they won’t be here today. Who would have known they were here waiting for me? I don’t know what to do. “What do you have to say about the arrest? Are you coming to see your lover one last time? How are you sure you did not know of his strange lifestyle?” The questions kept coming at me. It was really more political. I know my opponents will not p
Tanner’s POV I don’t know that the hotheaded pretty boy detective could be this caring. He was sincere in his words. I saw honesty and pains in his eyes. “What do you want to know?” I asked him. Instead, he advised me not be hasty in my decision. He must have gone through the same frustrations I have been going through all these years. Emma’s POV Initially I thought I was using his weakness against him. But I discovered that those words were my true feelings. I found out that the saying that: “ misery needs company,” is true. I saw the bewildered look on Vin’s face. “What really happened on March 6th?” I asked. He blinked twice as though trying to recall what really happened. “I don’t know who Albert was initially. That evening the boss called me over at the bar, he said he had a job for me. When I came I waited till around 10pm. Later a tall blonde guy came to the bar. By that time, the bar was already empty. H
Emma’s POV I put on the radio, the news was already everywhere about Kate’s running for mayorial office. I was pleasantly surprised by her decision even after everything she had been through for years she still came out better. I am very happy for her. On getting to the station, Kayla, Vin and Lynn were very excited and happy for her. It was like I was the one running for office, I felt huge burden on me each time I remember that. The news turned Winster county mayorial candidates upside down; because right now Kate is the most popular person in Winster county. Stanley’s POV The campaign was hectic for me because she made me her campaign manager. We focused on reaching out to the youth in correctional facilities, women empowerment and environmental preservation. Before the election, Kate already has 70% of the polls. I have not had a good sleep since then, but I was very happy. This is one of the things I love doing. Helping Kate is li
Kate’s POV I was at loss on what to wear. Even though we have dated for long, I rejected his proposal once. Then our relationship became cold. But since I came back to Winster county, my heart has been skipping each time I see him. Finally, I saw the pink gown I have been looking for. It was Emma that bought it for me. It was already 7pm, I dressed up as early as 6:40pm occasionally sweating. Finally, he called me that he has come to pick me up. Melissa was very supportive and excited for me. As I stepped out, I saw him standing near his car dressed in black tuxedo suit. He came forward and took my hands. Emma’s POV I decided to look good today. I even went to the salon to cut my hair and sideburns. I was leaning on my car waiting for her to come out. Finally, she came out. She looks very beautiful in that pink gown. “Where are we going?” she asked. “It is a secret,” I answered. We arrive
Kate’s POV I have not seen Chris for three years. He looks healthy and happy. “I am doing great,” I answered. I saw that he has really changed. He was very excited to see me. “When is your parole coming up?” “Few months from now, after which I will do community service for one.” “Where do you want to serve?” I asked out of curiosity. “Youth correctional facility centre,” he answered. After Chris, the next stop for us was Tanner’s. He looked younger than he was before. Maybe it is because of his low cut hair. “Kate, it has been a long time; you look great,” he complimented. I smiled. “How are you doing?” I asked Tanner’s POV Kate was the first person that ever treated me like a human being. It is such a pity that I was a jerk back then. I don’t deserve her. “I am doing great, I have been to therapy. I am healing and working as well.” Kate’s POV I was pleasantly surprised. “That means that
Kate’s POV I was a bit nervous when climbing the podium, but now all my fear seems to have disappeared. The sound of people’s applause was deafening. I smiled, I believe I did well. People were coming up to me for photos and autographs. “What is going on?” I asked myself. I could see Emma among the crowd. He gave me a thumbs up and winked at me. Even though I rejected his proposal one year ago, he has always been there for me. My heart is beginning to open to the idea of marriage. Vin’s POV I and Emily prepared the venue for the dinner. Emily is always meticulous with such things. We booked a restaurant down the alley of Park Avenue. After the anniversary we all moved there. The old gang: Emma, Lynn, Kayla, Kate, Stanley, Dr Amanda, Emily, myself and Eddie who is joining us for the first time. “Welcome back Kate!” we all chorused as she stepped in with Emma. She was still a bit bashful! Emily’s POV
Emma’s POV We chatted with Melissa for a long time. Albert was playing around the house. It is already 3pm, we have to get going for the requiem mass for sheriff Morgan’s anniversary. “Be a good boy and listen to grandma. Mommy have to meet some friends,” she instructed Albert. He nodded and ran off playing with Melissa. As we were exiting the house we could hear him and Melissa playing and laughing. I held Kate tightly with as we entered the car to attend the anniversary. Kate’s POV When we got there, I was really surprised. The whole place was quite different from what it was three years ago. Interesting! As I stepped out of the car, I saw Kayla. She was the first to greet me. The last time I saw her was when they bid me farewell at the airport. “How have you been?” I asked. My eyes immediately went to the flashy ring on her fingers. “Congratulations to you and Eddie!” I could see the bulge that has began to f
Stanley’s POV “What gave you the confidence to defend Chris and Tanner?” I scratched my chin for answers. “ Everyone has the right to be heard. When I heard their stories, it reminded me of the daily struggles of many indigent teenagers.” “Were you pleased with the results?” she asked.I laughed heartily. “Of course. That was one of my most memorable cases ever. It reminded me that once we put hope in people they are bound to reciprocate it with love.” Emma’s POV “How do you feel about being the new Sheriff?” she asked “I feel nervous and excited at the same time.” “What ideals do you want to uphold as the sheriff?” “Security, peace, hope and inclusiveness,” I answered. She asked Kayla, Vin and Lynn different questions from work to their personal lives and what have you. Finally she turned to Kate and asked her, “what is your plan for the future?” We all turned and steadied our eyes on her. “I want to be
Agent Tom’s POV I wrote to the agency and they gave me a written statement which I submitted to the judges. That was the least I could do for Tanner. As the police were leading him away, he said the three words I have been waiting to hear for the past 19 years: “ I forgive you.” Emma’s POV Today is sheriff Morgan’s burial. We all stood up in our black suit to observe a minute silence for him. All us were sad. But deep down, we are happy that we were able to make Winster county peaceful again. Vin’s POV I was nominated to eulogize the deceased sheriff Morgan. He was like a father figure to me. “For over ten years, he had sleepless nights working night and day to ensure the safety of all in Winster county. I remembered his face each time he remembers his retirement coming up next year June. He would laugh happily and envision the various adventures he will undertake… but we lost him due to inhumanity and despicable
Melissa’s POV I have heard what I wanted to hear. I sat still on the chair as they led him back to the cell. Maybe it would have been better, if I didn’t know what happened. I regretted coming to the station. As I was thinking about it, my head became hot. I couldn’t see clearly again. The next time I woke up, I was on my bed. I don’t know how many hours I blanked out. Kate’s POV I chatted with Emma and Kayla for over an hour. We became worried about Melissa. So we went inside, on getting there Vin was already leading Smith away. Melissa collapsed. Emma and Kayla carried to our car. I drove her back. I called her doctor and explained what happened. He came and administered some medications to her. I have been excited the whole evening because tomorrow is Smith’s trial. Many media outlets will be covering the story. Stanley already told me that the judgment is by 10am. I am sure that the whole or at least three-q
Melissa’s POV I initially planned to go alone. But Kate is a welcomed distraction, if not I wouldn’t have obliged. I kept checking my watch, by 9am I left the house. On getting to the station, I have lots of questions in my mind. I saw Kate talking to Emma and Kayla. After sometime, they brought me inside the waiting room. Kate’s POV I explained to Emma that Melissa is not in her right mind. That they should keep watch. So he assigned Vin to oversee the whole incident. I on the other hand joined in Emma and Kayla in the lobby enjoying the early morning summer sun. Smith’s POV I was surprised when I saw Melissa in the waiting room. The way she was looking haggard made me happy. I smiled and sat across her from the table. Her whole facial expressions and the wrinkles on her face gave joy. “How did you meet Max?” she asked me. I didn’t want to answer before, however now that I know I can’t escape, I
