Danielle Martin isn't a typical girl in high school. She doesn't wear tight clothes or pounds of makeup, she isn't popular and isn't really a big fan of all the attention. Books and Netflix are her Friday nights, staying home and eating sweets and junk. She's small and vulnerable, shy because she doesn't have the life everyone thinks she does. But that all changes... Now, Blake Daniels is a stereotypical high school guy. Captain of the football team, unbearably attractive, and one of the most popular guys to walk the school. To anyone else, his life is amazing. But to him, it sucks. Family issues and lost battles leave him weak and vulnerable to the ones who want to break him more. But that also all changes... Will their newfound love save them from the struggles they face? Can they survive with all the drama and rumors being thrown at them? It all comes down to one thing in the end. Can they make it together?
View More"What do you mean?" "You know what I mean, Danny." Blair pinches the bridge of her nose, sighing out."Apparently I don't since I'm asking you." I snap. We're currently sitting in her car, having what she calls 'Girl Talk'. "You like Blake." "N-no...I don't." "Cut the crap, Danny. You and I both know that's a lie." She shoots at me. "So what if it is? It's not like he likes me back." I slump further in the leather seat, crossing my arms and staring out the window, rain heavily pouring outside. I'm officially done with this conversation. "Are you really that oblivious?!" She throws her arms up, raising her voice. "What?" I turn towards her, a little bit of anger and curiosity in my tone. "Clearly, he likes you back. You both literally flirt in every conversation." She rolls her eyes. "That's not true." She gives me a pointed look. "Yes. It. Is." "Even if it was, we've only known each other for a few weeks." I really hoped what she was saying is true. I don't want to have
"Alright! Great job today Ladies! Try outs are after Thanksgiving break, so be ready! Alright, break it out." Coach yells, throwing up his hand in the air as we all mimic the same.We break out in our usual chant."Lady Dogs on three! One! Two! Three! Lady Dogs!" And we all walk to the locker room, grabbing our things and leaving. The thought of tryouts makes me nervous and excited all at the same time.I see my moms car parked right next to the field gates. I open the door and quickly hop in, smiling at my mom as she just sits on her phone."Hey, mom."No answer. She takes the car out of park and stars backing up out of the parking lot, driving away towards the house."So, tryouts are after Thanksgiving break. Which is only a few weeks away." I chirp, watching her scroll through her phone and look up at the road.No answer."And I made a hundred on my test in pre cal."Still, no answer."I also skipped class to smoke pot with the stoners." I lie, seeing if she is actually listening.
I hop out of my Mom's car and walk up the front steps of the school as she drives off. A few people stand on the school yard and talking with their friends. I continue to walk on the straight sidewalk towards the front doors. "Danny!" I see Kyla skipping towards me, singing out my name as her blonde hair swings everywhere. "Hey...Ky." I furrow my brows at her peculiar behavior. Why is she so happy? She runs the rest of the way up to me, engulfing me in a big hug. "What's-" "Marcus asked me to the movies this Friday!" She almost screams, her body jumping up and down as she still hugs me. I wrap my arms around her, jumping along. "Oh my gosh, Ky! That's so great!" I smile as we break apart. "Thanks. I really like him." She looks down, a sweet smile on her face as her cheeks blush a deep shade of red. "I'm happy for you." Man, it's been less than a week and she likes him. That's something amazing. It takes her awhile to actually like someone. Me and Blake did a good job. "S
I rush out of the stands, running through the turfed field, frantically searching for one person. Blake. He won the game. Well, he helped them win the game. My eyes drift from each face, people jumping and hugging each other. Congratulating the players. "Danny!" Marcus runs up to me, a huge smile on his face. "Hey, Marcus. You did so great!" I chirp to him, smiling as I still search around. "Thanks..." he notices my attention. "You looking for Blake?" I snap my eyes to him, my cheeks flushing a deep red. "Yeah, I just wanted to congratulate him." It wasn't a complete lie. I did want to cheer him on for how great he played, but I also wanted to do something else. My mind keeps flashing images of that inside my head. Images that make my heart flutter and chills run through me. "Actually, I think he was looking for you." "Really?" My eyes widen, my heart speeding up in my chest. "Yeah, he should be somewhere in the middle of all that ruckus." He nods his head to the big cro
"Let's give it up for our Bulldogs!!!"The crowd goes wild, screams and horns going off every where.Blair cheers with them as Kyla and I stand silent. Blake's jacket now disregarded in my hand.We get dismissed back to class, walking out of the gym and into the misty air. My hands clutching my arms to get any more warmth."Hey." Someone grabs my arm, like this morning. Tingles shooting through where they touched.I turn around and meet Blake's eyes. Confusion and worry in them."Why did you take it off?" He nods to the jacket in my hand."I wasn't cold anymore." I shrug, half lying. It wasn't that I didn't need it because I was warm, entirely. It was because of what I saw. And realized I'm in no position to wear it."I wanted you to wear it for the game tonight." He puts his hands in his pockets."I don't know if I'm going-""You have to go. We had a deal, remember?""Yeah, But-""Just go, okay? I promise it'll be fun. And I know you're cold, you don't hide things very well." He puts
Today is the day.Friday.A day I have been worrying about since I knew what would come. The front of the school is littered with people. Black, red, and white paint covers their faces as the school spirit shows through their clothing.I walk on the straight sidewalk to the front doors of the school, hiking my bag further on my shoulder.A hand clamps on my forearm, turning me to face them.Blake stands, his tall figure sporting his white football jersey over a red sweatshirt. The number 19 displayed on the fabric.I look into his eyes as he smiles down at me. It fades once he takes in my appearance. His face holding a confused expression."Why didn't you dress out?" He looks me up and down, his eyes burning my skin."Where's the school spirit?""I don't own anything like that." I feel embarrassed, of course. For as long as I lived here, I still don't own any clothing for these types of events. Nobody noticed me, so I never thought it was really necessary.Until now."Not even a simpl
"I need you to do me a favor."A familiar voice comes from behind my locker door. As I shut it, I meet his eyes that look even more green than the day before."And what would that favor be?" I ask, eyeing him warily before starting to walk to my next class."I need you to eat lunch with me." He says while falling into step beside me.I snort, earning a vicious glance from Blake."You're asking me to eat lunch with you? Don't you have any other friends?""Yes, and yes. That's why I need you to come. I want you to bring your friend.""Which one?" I ask, looking at him from the corner of my eye.He looks confused, a frown on his face."I have more than one friend, you know?" I huff out."The blonde one you always hang around. My friend Marcus needs a girl and he won't listen to me. I was thinking maybe we could set them up at lunch or something." He sheepishly smiles. I stop in my tracks and stare at him. My mouth agape."You want me to invite my friend to eat lunch with y'all so you can
I stare, horrified at the scene in front of me. The menacing death trap known to all high school students before. Each of its steps jagging out like sharp teeth ready to consume its next victim. Ready to drop you any second."Why the hesitation?" A harmonic voice whispered in my ear, sending shivers throughout my body. The smell of vanilla and cinnamon filling my nose.I turn around, an annoyed look on my face. Then turn back to my enemy."Hey, Blake." I breath out."You didn't answer my question, Danielle." He quirks an eyebrow, looking down at me.+"Because, I hate the stairs.""Why?" He laughs."You never know when you'll trip and just roll down. They're the cause to a majority of deaths now days. That's why people take elevators." I cross my arms, staring in defeat at the long case of steps."Like falling from thousands of feet in a metal box is a much better way to die." He rolls his eyes, the side of his lips slightly upturning."Yeah, yeah. Whatever. I still don't like them."
"Can you help me with the homework tonight?" Melissa asked, her blue eyes frantically overlooking the page of math problems our teacher gave us."Don't I always?" I tease, watching her look up and roll her eyes."I don't understand why he gives us homework! What's the purpose of it?" She complains."Why don't you ask him that?""No.""Then, shut up.""Okay." She whines. We both start walking to our last period of the day, soccer."Ugh!!" She groans out loud."What is it now?" I groan back."I don't want to walk!" She whines again."Melissa, it's just across the street!""And it's so far!"I loudly sigh in frustration until someone calls my name."Danielle." His deep voice causes my head to snap in his direction. There's a smug grin on his face as he leans towards the rolled down window of the passenger side."Need a ride?" He asks as he slowly scoots forward in the long line of cars waiting to get out of the parking lot. His speed matching ours as we walk."We're fine, it's only acros
The wind softly blows, the strands of the hair sticking out of my messy ponytail flailing around. The cold air stinging my cheeks as I continue to walk. The bright sign of the gas station's convenient store cutting through the thick grey mist of another cold day. Looking around, I see other people with their friends. Walking and laughing or just sharing the warmth of a car heater. I sigh, watching the cloud of my breath float into the air. I trudge on, shoving my hands deeper into the pocket of my hoodie. The sliding doors open as soon as I reach them, sending an immediate wave of warmth to me. The smell of freshly brewed coffee and cleaning supplies fills my nose as I walk to the back fridges. There's so many drink selections to choose from. I just stand and feign to make a decision, knowing that I will get the same thing as I always get when I come. A few more seconds pass of me standing and staring at a wall full of beverages. A small new warmth envelopes me as the heavenly s...
