Verania's Point of View

"What do you mean by 'my guy'?" I furrowed my brow and asked.

"Ares," he said succinctly, taking another sip of his wine, which made me wince.

"Where is he?" I quickly questioned.

Upon my inquiry, he immediately grabbed my hand and pulled me away. Well, he was lucky I wasn't in the mood to punch him after all his dragging earlier.

However, I didn't retract my hand since I knew he was taking me to Ares.

As we walked, people greeted him, and they all turned to look at me, grinning as if they were teasing Apollo.

"Apollo!" a man greeted him.

"Not now, I have something to do," Apollo replied, pointing at me.

"Oh, who's this, your new one? Not Blanche—" the man started to inquire, but Apollo abruptly turned to face him, casting a dark look.

Blanche? Who was that?

"You don't know her. I'll catch up with you later, Pius," Apollo said coldly before leading me away from there.

As we walked, I felt a sudden curiosity and decided to ask.

"Hey, who's Blanche that guy menti

Verania's Point of ViewOh my, Ares. If only I loved you romantically, and you spoke like that in front of me, my cheeks might not be able to handle it, and they'd sizzle from the excitement.I redirected my attention to Madam Dorothy, who was still in the middle of her questioning."Have you found anyone you like yet, dear?" Madam Dorothy asked Olivia, who blushed slightly but shook her head in response."Nah, she says," Apollo chimed in."She's just playing hard to get," Ares teased, making Olivia roll her eyes at him."Tss, what a show-off. As if you weren't always heartbroken back then," Olivia retorted, shaking her head at Ares. Tss, he's a lost cause, hahaha."And you, Apollo, think you can escape?" Madam Dorothy suddenly interjected, causing Olivia to grin."How's work? I heard you're working for the Armendarez family now," Madam asked."Yes, Lola, that's correct. The job is going well," Apollo replied briefly."Really? There were rumors among my friends here that you're gettin

Verania’s Point of View "Sorry, Alder, but I have to follow him," I quickly said before running off, not even bothering to listen to Alder's response.Damn, Verania, you're acting like one of those reckless guys in the movies. Just a moment ago, you kissed a guy, and now you're chasing after another one. Nice! But the reason I'm chasing after Ares isn't because I'm interested in him or anything like that. I'm following him because he's walking alone, and it could be dangerous if someone from the suspects' side spots him. He needs protection. My heart raced as I noticed that the path I was taking to catch up to Ares had fewer people, and it was getting darker. I still couldn't find him.I pulled out my phone and tried calling him, but he wasn't picking up!Where could that guy have gone? I could feel my heart pounding with anxiety. Why did he have to be so stubborn? I told him to stay inside, and now he's following me too? Ugh, seriously!"Ares!" my voice nearly echoed in the quiet su

Verania's Point of View"You know I can't possibly do that! I'm protecting you, and what's the point if I leave you?" I exclaimed in frustration, but he just sighed in response."Verania, for now, you should focus on Aunt Andromeda!" he yelled back, making me catch my breath."What if the same happens to you?""Verania, please, just listen this once!" he shouted, and even though it was painful to leave him, I quickly ran to where Miss Andromeda was.I hope you'll be okay there, Ares.I forced myself to move faster until I finally reached the restroom, where the only people present were Olivia, Aunt Charlotte, and Sir Roosevelt. I noticed Claudia, Miss Andromeda's daughter, was there too. I had planned to ask where the others were, but Olivia pulled me down to sit, and that's when I saw the state Miss Andromeda was in.She was struggling to breathe, and I gasped when I saw the shattered wine glass beside her."What happened?" I asked immediately, grabbing my handkerchief to wipe away s

Verania's Point of ViewI couldn't count how many times I glanced at my phone to check the time.Right now, I was racing against two things: time and, of course, Ares, who was being held by their enemies. I needed to hurry for his sake. If I took too long, he could be in danger, and if that happened, I might forget my high-ranking military position.I closed my eyes tightly when the endless line of cars in the traffic startled me. I looked at the address in front of me. My route was correct, so I had no reason to be nervous. Besides, after the next turn, the traffic like this would disappear, as the address given by the guy we caught with Alder earlier was located in a barangay. I couldn't blame the road for getting congested; it had probably been that way for a long time.

Verania's Point of ViewShe suddenly froze as she heard me inquire. Slowly, she turned to face me, studying my every detail."They need you... alive," she whispered, then swiftly departed. But why, I wondered? As the woman vanished from my sight, another figure emerged before me, as if summoned by fate. What could possibly be the purpose of this new arrival? When our eyes met, my forehead involuntarily furrowed. My astonishment deepened as I scrutinized her face.Former Mayor? Wait... Is she involved in this too?"Good evening to you," Former Mayor Eduardo Saldivar greeted me with a sly grin.He had served as mayor before Uncle Stan.Even though he had spoken, my face still bore the expression of disbelief. Goodness, who wouldn't be shocked to suddenly encounter someone like him, only to discover their involvement in such activities? Unbelievable! The Mayor who once served our town is also a criminal! Well, if I ever get a chance to escape from here, his reputation will surely be in r

Verania's Point of View Arriving at the hospital, Ares was immediately greeted by his parents, Uncle Stan and Aunt Charlotte. I noticed Olivia was with them as well. I wasn't surprised when our eyes met, and she gave me a disdainful look."Are you okay, dear?" Aunt Charlotte anxiously asked Ares. I shifted my gaze to them, and my lips quivered, especially as Ares looked at me with displeasure while Aunt Charlotte examined him."I'm okay, Mom. We were supposed to go home, but Vera insisted that I should be checked by a doctor," Ares explained, causing Aunt and Uncle's eyebrows to furrow, their attention shifting to me."What about you, Verania? Are you also alright?" Aunt asked, her eyes scanning my body."I'm fine," I replied softly. "Ares needs to see the doctor. He was hit on the head earlier and needs to be checked.""Alright, Verania. Charlotte and I will take care of him for now," Uncle Stan said, reassuringly patting my shoulder before they left.Olivia remained, her gaze still

Mom enrolled him in piano class, and he's been really enjoying it," she explained, and I nodded like a child. We were currently eating when Congressman suddenly arrived. I felt a sense of nervousness; I don't know why, but Congressman Donatelli's presence always felt intimidating. I'm not sure if it's just me who feels this way. However, my eyes shifted to the people following Congressman—was that Clara? As they approached, I realized it was indeed Clara and Sandra. Did Alder invite them too? Or is it just a coincidence that they're coming here now?"Oh, Ares, how have you been?" Congressman quickly asked upon reaching us."I've been good," Ares replied politely, and Congressman turned to us."I'll go ahead, I just peeked in here because there were a lot of people, I thought someone else came. By the way, Ares, say hello to my Dad for me!" Congressman said cheerfully before chuckling slightly and leaving for good."Ate

Verania's Point of ViewAnother pleasant day lies ahead of me. Ares and I were left with the household staff in their home, so I'm starting to get a bit bored. There's just nothing much for me to do here."Ares!" I called out loudly to him.We were currently inside the office and study room in their house. It's my first time entering this room, despite spending a few months with them. It's like a restricted area; I can only enter with permission, like today, when Ares allowed me in."Are there comics here? Or maybe some joke books or something?" I asked, curious, scanning the bookshelves I passed by.He arched an eyebrow and looked at me."We only have novels here and some children's books, but what you're looking for, we don't have," he answered seriously, and I pouted."So, what are we going to do here?" I asked, turning to him quickly.I'm not really into reading, so I didn't bother checking the other contents of their bookshelves."Dad asked me to organize the books in this sectio

Third Person's Point of ViewThe time and hour of Ares' departure has indeed come. He was accompanied by his grandfather, Thaddeus Montero.Just like what Verania thought during the times she tried to convince Ares, he did not join her.Ares texted her that he'll wait at the airport for her before he finally leaves, but Verania didn't even think about going. She knows that she'll ruin everything again once she goes to him. That's why instead of heading straight to the airport, he went to Olivia's bar. It was noon, so there were no people inside, just Verania and of course Olivia, who was serving drinks to the young woman."I didn't think you would choose to drink rather than take Kuya home," Olivia said to Verania, who was playing with the ice in her drink. She's drinking non-alcoholic beverages, which is why she has the confidence to down each glass without hesitation."Is that a joke?" Verania raised an eyebrow when asked that.Olivia couldn't help but laugh when Vera asked such a q

Verania's Point of ViewIt has been a month since the culprit responsible for the harm to the lives of Tito Stan and Ares was caught.I also haven't really noticed the swift passage of the months. Even my feelings, I didn't notice the change.I have missed many things because of the amount of attention I give to what I'm doing, especially at work. Sometimes I fail, but I don't dwell on it and often use those experiences as motivation for what I'm currently doing and for what I will do in the near future.Of course, the elections just finished, and who won the governorship? It's none other than Tito Stan, and it seems that the one who took over the position of Congressman is also quite decent. He is often busy now because of the many things he has to take care of, but even so, his worries have lessened, especially since those who wanted to harm them are no longer free.As for Tita Charlotte, she managed their other sources of income while Olivia stayed in charge of managing their main

Third Person’s Point of View "Glad you asked me that, First Lieutenant," Sid said happily as he turned to Gustavo beside him. "Can I be the one to shoot one of them?" Sid said goodbye with a broad smile, while Gustavo grimaced at Sid's question. "Who among them?" Is Ares there? The tone of the Congressman’s question is lazy. "Oh, I wish it were possible." "Go ahead, before I change my mind," Gustavo responded lazily as he lowered his gun. Meanwhile, Sid tightly gripped the gun and cocked it. He slowly raised his arm and aimed the gun at Ares, startling Verania. Verania's eyes widened and her heart began to race. She didn't know what to do to stop Sid from going through with what he was about to do to the young man next to her. She wanted to run and approach Sid to snatch the gun from him, but with Ares's tight grip on her hand, she hesitated whether to leave his side. That's why, when she saw that Sid was ready to pull the trigger, she blocked her body in front of the young man

Third Person's Point of View"You are so many!" Gabriella's complaint is that she has already tied up and brought down quite a number of their opponents."Miss Gab, we still can't find First Lieutenant Sir Ares, and the same goes for Greg," Tristan said as he approached Gab, who was currently stretching."Search carefully, I know this place is big and has many twists and turns, but you will find them, just hurry up, it's exhausting to avoid the attacks from the enemies here!" The young woman complained, and Tristan quickly saluted and followed Gab's instructions; he informed his colleagues of the young woman's orders to speed things up."Second Lieutenant," called Josefa, one of Verania's group, to Gabriella, who immediately turned around. "Where is Captain Vic?" Verania asked angrily, her sarcasm still evident."I'm kidding if I said I'm letting you go and then I tighten the bonds on you." Verania fell silent when she heard Cristoforo's reply, as if she had been doused with cold ice by what he said to her.She couldn't believe it, she didn't know why he would want to let her go when her father, Gustavo Donatelli, was on his side?Verania's mind started to think that maybe Cristoforo was going crazy."Why are you doing this?" Verania asked without restraint when he finally removed the chain from her foot. There were many padlocks there, so it was no wonder it took so long to remove."I'm a double agent," he stopped removing the chain to look up at Verania. Third Person's Point of View"Boss, someone found us!" a man shouted loudly to Gustavo, causing Verania's face to brighten, as whoever it was could surely save Ares."And how did they find us? Only we know about this place!" Gustavo held his grip firmly as he spoke, his eyes shifting back to the man who informed him of the situation outside."Create a distraction, block whoever they are!" Gustavo shouted again, and the man who had just been there quickly disappeared from sight."Don't let them get here!" he added, prompting the others who were just inside to quickly rush out of the room they were in, likely to confront the people outside. Now, Gustavo's gaze fell on his son, Cristoforo, so Vera did the same. She directed her eyes to Cristoforo."Ares and Vera, we'll take them to the other headquarters where our other comrades are," Gustavo calmly instructed his son Cristoforo, who quickly went to where Verania was sitting. The noise o

Third Person's Point of ViewHe nodded at her, indicating his confidence had eased Ares' heart, so he slowly approached them and attempted to listen to their conversation, for in the eyes of the young Ares, there seemed to be something peculiar there, and like something he delighted in doing, he took out a small notebook from his pocket and a recording pen."What are you doing?" Tirso whispered, but instead of answering, he just gave his friend a very wicked look.He sharpened his ears and earnestly listened to the conversation. Though he couldn't understand it internally, he couldn't deny that he enjoyed this kind of conversation, as many things were revealed.Another dream of the boy's heart was to become a detective like he had read in his mother's book.Indeed, Ares started listing down the things he heard, but instead of using the Filipino Alphabet, he used a code that only he could crack for sure, of course, because he was the only one who knew it since he made it himself.Never

Third Person's Point of View "Why are you doing this?" Vera's voice trembled with anxiety as she asked Gustavo, who was smiling. One by one, more members of the enemy's group entered the room, increasing the pounding in Vera's chest. She didn't know what could be done about them."Why?" Vera's question came out weakly."I've really wanted to tell you everything since earlier, I just waited for my surprises to arrive," Gustavo said, and Verania remained nervously attentive."Because you seem very interested, I expect you to listen eagerly to every detail I'll say," Gustavo added sincerely, and Vera took a deep breath and nodded, prompting Gustavo to start. This thing happened years ago.It all began with a boy named Ares, nine years old and currently in the third grade. That day was one of the happiest events in his life, perhaps the day he made a friend at school who wasn't his cousin. The boy who became his friend was named Alder, and he was even happier when he found out that their

I ignored it and waited for Gustavo, his father, to respond."Ah, don't worry, he's not here," he replied with a smirk, which somehow calmed me down a bit."And I want to tell you something..." Gustavo paused to glance at Cristoforo, whose eyes were still fixed on me."What? What do you want to say?" I asked, not breaking eye contact with Cristoforo."Cristoforo is the gunner of Ares' car. Cris told me you saw his eyes that night."My blood boiled upon hearing what he said.He did what? He's the one who shot? No wonder I felt something off when I saw him. I also tried to analyze his eyes now and that night of Ares' accident. Why didn't I notice? Why didn't I notice they were the same? Why did I blame Alder for this?I'm so stupid!Even though tightly bound, I tried to break free while glaring intensely at Cristoforo."Calm down, Vera. I didn't bring you here to hurt anyone," Gustavo said wit
