"Principal Dolan?" Shawn called out as he arrived at the principal's office. The secretary, Mrs. Ahmed, was nowhere to be found so he walked in. The office smelt of mint, thanks to the peppermint plants grown in every corner of the room. Principal Dolan sat at the other end of the table, his back turned away from the door. Even though he had tried very hard to wash it out, Shawn could still see the traces of the paint on his head.

"Principal Dolan," Shawn called out again and Dolan turned on his chair to face him. Shawn noticed that his oval glasses which normally hung down his nose, making him look stricter, were now a little bit higher, covering his eyes. But, he could still see the redness in his eyes. His face softened as a thought came to his mind. Principal Dolan cried.

The clearing of the throat from Dolan brought his senses back and he took a seat opposite him. "Sir, I'm here on behalf of Jade Adler. I would like to apologize about..."

Dolan interrupted. "Save your breath. Nothing will save her from expulsion this time. If her father wants to use his power, he should use it to get her into another school."

Shawn sighed before speaking. "Sir, I know Jade crossed the line this time. No, she has crossed it every time but, please give her some time. You know that there was a time when she was among the best. Grief changed her. She just needs more time."

Dolan scoffed. "Mr. Beckett, don't you think that line is overused? You've been saying that since her first mischief. But, it's not going to work this time. I'm going to do what I should have done the day she almost burnt down the school. I will expel her."

"I'm sorry sir but if you do that, you'll have to expel me too."

"What? Do you know the complications of what you're saying?" Dolan huffed, visibly annoyed.

"I do and I'm willing to bear the consequences. If Jade gets expelled, then I'm leaving as well." Shawn reiterated.

Dolan gave a slight frown as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "Hmm... You have placed me in a tight spot, Mr. Beckett. You're our best student. Losing you will be a great loss. I'll think about giving her another chance. But, are you willing to bear her punishment with her?"

"Yes sir. I take responsibility," Shawn replied, feeling hopeful.

"Two weeks suspension for both of you," Dolan said as he scribbled something on a piece of paper and handed it to him. "I hope you'll be able to handle things at home and have enough time to talk sense into her."

"Thank you, sir," Shawn said as he stood up to leave. He was about to walk through the door when Dolan stopped him.

"Both of you are very different. You're what I would call polar opposites. Why would you keep hanging out with her, knowing it would bring ruin to you?" Dolan said, adjusting his glasses.

Shawn simply smiled at him and walked out of the room. If he didn't hang out with Jade, who would? Besides, opposites attract, don't they?

Jade curved her lips up into a wry smile as she stared into the mirror at her reflection. Her black hair which was dripping with water, stayed glued onto her smooth skin, making her look like a goddess - or so she felt. She had washed off her Gothic makeup all that was left was the angelic-looking beauty in the mirror. The innocent-looking face that had ruined her life. She smirked as she turned on her feet and walked out of the bathroom into her room, with only a towel tied around her chest. She got to her dressing table and was about to apply lotion when she heard a knock on the door. Frowning, she went to open the door, wondering who it was. It definitely wasn't her stepmother - as she had warned her to stay off - and it wasn't yet time for her dad to return home. Unless he had been informed of her current mischief. She looked through the peephole and on seeing Shawn, she shuddered. What was he doing here? She opened the door and he walked in. His eyes widened wit

She gave a light chuckle as she wiped her hands and caressed his hair with one hand.

Jade rolled her eyes for the umpteenth time as she watched Shawn giggle softly at something Marie said. Just a few minutes ago, he had gone to return the permission card and had ended up leaving the cafeteria with her for a while. She had overlooked it as she didn't want to seem clingy but he had returned now and was sitting with her while she sat here waiting for him to come back so they could get food. She cringed as she watched him lock eyes with Marie, slowly reaching for her hair and picking out something from her afro puff. He blew it off into the air, still maintaining eye contact with her. She noticed changes in Marie's body language, her formerly relaxed smile was now tense, along with the rest of her body and she subconsciously began to wipe her hands against her skirt, indicating nervousness. It looked like a scene straight out of a drama. And, this was the scene where the female lead begins to fall in love with the protagonist. Not on her watch. This protagonist was he

She threw it across the room and it landed on the floor close to the door, increasing the litter of crumpled paper and broken pencils in the room. Closing her eyes, she tried to picture a face, Tiger's face - that was what they called him but she knew his name began with the letter H. However she was only met with an empty space and a heaviness in her heart that was trying to drag her down. She tried to remind herself of him - his lifeless gray eyes, his hair and beards that smelled like shampoo, the scent of his unfamiliar cologne, his cold lips, his strong muscular arms, his large callused hands, and his burly chest that had the tattoo of a tiger. She still couldn't remember his face. Just like the first day after she woke up. Her therapist had said it was due

So if you don't put that phone away for the rest of my class, I'll hand it over to Principal Dolan to add to his collection for the year.” Shawn sighed softly and switched off his phone, putting it into his bag. “I'm sorry, Miss V.” “Don't apologize to me. Her skin was hurting from all the scratching. And even though she couldn't see it, as she had been locked up in a very dark room, she knew it was bleeding. She could feel the warm liquid under her fingernails. But she didn't care. In fact, she wanted to peel off her skin completely. Maybe that would make her feel better.Or would it? She thought to herself, her body shaking as she cried even harder. These people. They had killed her mother. In the most inhumane way possible. They made her suffer before she died. And she slept through it all. If she had been awake, maybe she could have stopped them.Stop them? She mocked inside her head.

Jade hummed happily as she removed the chicken from the oven. She carefully carried it and placed it on the counter. She carried a tray containing Mac and cheese and put it in the oven. The only person in the house who walked that quietly was Sally. She never forgave Sally for ruining her parents' marriage and she had planned on making life as miserable as she could for her. However, she had promised to be nicer to her and while she didn't know how to go about it, she knew it involved not chasing her out of the kitchen. “Uhm... It was always like this, she would try to engage her in a conversat

Jade shut the door after Jacob left, biting her lip as she walked to the bathroom. She stared at her reflection in the mirror, tears falling from her eyes. She hated the person she was becoming - an irritable person with no interest in life who keeps pushing away everyone from her. She didn't want to spend the rest of her life alone but she knew she probably would. Everyone she knew hated her. Rachel, Sergio, Principal Dolan, her teachers, and her classmates all hated her. Sally only pretended to like her because she was her father's wife. Lewis only protected her because he was paid to. Jacob couldn't wait to be rid of her. And Shawn - she had no idea why he was even pretending to like her. She closed her eyes trying to imagine a life where nothing went wrong. A life where her father didn't cheat on her mother. Or one where her mother forgave him. She would probably still be alive and Jade would be a carefree youth with a perfect family. A straight-A student whose goal is

  • JADED   25 - HER FATHER'S DAUGHTER

Shawn trudged slowly along the street, his phone in his hand, praying for a call from Jade. He hoped she'd stop being difficult and let him by her side. Even though he knew it would never happen, he still wished she could go back to being the carefree yet lovable girl he used to know. He wished he could reverse time. He would make sure she never got hurt. But these were all wishful thinking. Jade had changed and was never going to call him back and if he doesn't return to his home, he'd have to sleep on the streets. He hated the idea of returning to his home. Being in it made him feel caged up and now that he had tasted freedom, he was reluctant to go back to his cage.He groaned, coming to an abrupt stop. It was the middle of the night and he was stuck outside with no money on him and nowhere to go. Heck, he hadn't stayed up this late intentionally before. Thinking about it made him want to cry, but according to his father, real men don't cry - only sissies do.
