Chapter 5: The Wife
“Bring him into the dungeon.”
His order is too cruel. My eyes went bigger as he did not even reconsider listening to my words. I want to be heard but why could not give me the benefit of the doubt?
“Alpha, I really did not do something bad. I am sorry if I crossed the line.” I knelt down and bowed my head on the floor to be forgiven. I do not want to use my last card but I think I need it.
“I am a healer myself. Although I came from the syndicate, I know what is right and wrong. I know I will be pusnish if I cause you harm. What I did to you is not something the cause of your death. I am sorry but I sipped the bad energy inside you.”
“What? Bad energy?”
Andrius and Shahida came. I glance at Shahida and asks for help through her eyes.
“What do you mean bad energy? Do not lie, slave. The alpha is just fine and his illness is attacking him. Why would we believe your nonsensical claim?” Andrius asked angrily.
Even the alpha’s second in command did not believe in me. All I need is Shahida, but she is too fearful of her brother.
“I am telling the truth, alpha. Please hear me out.”
“Brother, Elias did not do anything. I was the one who grabbed him to watch the hearing. I was at fault. Please forgive me, alpha.” Shahida begged him as she knelt down.
She grabbed my wrist which caused me to kneel down too. “Say something.”
With her command, I spoke, “Something.”
Shy slapped my arm slightly. “Are you kidding me? I mean say something. Like an apology. Why are you so innocent?”
How would I know what she was talking about? I did not know that even the alpha’s sister would kneel in fron tof him. How much more if I make mistakes in here?
“Oh, I am sorry.” I gathered my words again and think of anything. “I apologize, alpha. I was to blame. I did not mean to touch you but unconciously I was drawn to you when you were in pain. I apologize for my greediness to make you calm,” I said heartily without facing him.
The alpha did not speak. I do not know why but I know he is still here as I heard him cursed under his breathe. He stood up and glared at us.
Andrius came running through the hallway. He brought something to the alpha but he shrugged. Andrius’ eyes were asking why but he was shocked when he saw us kneeling in front of the alpha.
“You, two. Face me,” he commanded.
As we lifted our chin, we saw an emerald green eyes again. The black flicker disappears as if they were not here in the first place. Even Andrius creased his forehead at the sight. How can a black flicker faded that easy?
“How did your flicker faded into oblivion, alpha?” Andrius asked in surprise.
The alpha glanced at me. “That is what I am asking, too.”
“Elias, did you intoxicate the alpha?” Shahida asked, whispering.
I shook my head innocently. “I am a human. I do not know what has happening. What did I do? Did I hurt the alpha without knowing?”
Liar. I know what I did. It has been years already since I did not use this ability of mine. Seeping bad energy from people could make my life at stake. Even Samael himself did not know I possessed such skill. I pretended to not know.
“Alpha, we need to get out in here. The councils are walking this way. They might see you in this state. We could not risk that,” Andrius informed him.
Indeed, the councils were coming to our direction. But the alpha refused to go and wanted to stay. His eyes were asking and in deep confusion. They are confused as to what happened to him.
“Shahida, you bring him to your room. I just need to check something. And do not leave until I say so,” he ordered. Seeing him commanding his sister like this, I feel like he is being a brother to her; protective and caring. But, Shahida took it the other way.
Shahida’s face fell. She stood up, as if she is expecting this to happen. I stood up after her and followed her way.
“Another week inside my room again.” She chanted as she faced and smiled me bitterly. “What’s new in this lifetime, anyway? It’s not like I’m not used to this.”
She sighed heavily.
We stride ourselves in the pathway to Shahida’s room. Like any other girl I met, her room is decorated with pink stuffs, almost her interiors were pink, which is kinda blinding but understandle. Unlike her brother that it is plain and boring. She has a mini-shelves each side of her bedroom and on the upper wall of the headboard.
“Welcome to my cave!” Shahida exclaimed. “Sit wherever you are comfortable with. And feel at home.”
At home. How does it feel to have a home? I forgot how it feels like.
I took the couch in her vanity table as she spoke, “Did you see how those black flicker fades? That’s not something anyone could do. And it disappeared right after you told him you are sorry. Elias, you calm him. What did you do exactly? Are you the lost mage?”
She faced me, her hands on her waist like an asian mom who waits her son to come home.
I do not know what to say but I found myself lying. “You’re just imagining this.”
“No, I’m not,” she retorted. The bed lunged as she sat on it. “I feel like I have known you since forever. Have we met before, Elias?”
She took one book from her shelf and flipped pages.
“I do not think we have met. This is my first time in Northcrest after leaving Tillbury and my abusive owner,” I answered truthfully. “Aside from my friends at the sysndicate, I have never met somelike like you… in that status of yours.”
“I am sorry about that. I feel bad for you. You experience those horrible things.” Shahida sighed at the thought.
“You do not have to say sorry. It is fine with me.”
“Still.”
“Why are you so good to me? Don’t you feel scared at me? You let a stranger enter your room. I could just slit your throat right now,” I told her. I am not threatening her but she is very complacent when he does not know who am I really.
But she just laughs at me. “Which you did not do. You know, I am good at judging a character unlike my brother."
Shahida read her book so I shut my mouth.
“You are obviously not into women, why should I bother? Now, it is my turn to ask you.” She dropped her book on her bed and went to my side.
She grabbed me on my wrist. “Do you like my brother?”
I was stunned. She wiggled her eyebrows, teasing me. Her question never reached my mind. Even the slightest pity to the alpha, I did not feel it.
Aside from he is too far from being reach, I have someone in my heart already. I just smiled at that thought and recall Riley.
“No, of course not. That is the most ridiculous decision I will ever make. I like someone else.” A smile from my lips escaped voluntarily.
“Really? Don’t you find my brother attractive or so so?”
“He is charming… but not enough to make me fall. I love someone already.”
“Too bad.”
A loud and consecutive knocks stopped us from talking as Apollo entered with Andrius keeping a distance behind him. Apollo’s eyes found me and glanced at Shahida for a moment before talking. I stood up right that instant and bowed my head to him.
His strength perhaps were retrieved. His aura seemed different. He clenched his teeth as he saw his sister smiling at him. I wonder what these two were thinking.
I stilled when his eyes found mine. He glared as if I made another mistake of my life. Did I do something bad?
When Shahida stood firm, I imitated her. We looked like two servants who was about to get scold by our owner, but Shahida could be that elegant servant.
“Brother, I can stay here for a week but don not touch my books like the last time. I know I was too pushover,” she stated at him.
But, he did not say anything. So, Shahida surrendered, “Okay, fine. But, let Elias stay with me. I have no one in here. If only I have my tutor, I wouldn’t force Elias here.”
“You are the next heir of Northcrest and yet you’re afraid of being alone?” the alpha retorted sternly.
Shahida rolled her eyes in annoyance. It seemed like the alpha was used to it as he didn’t react mad.
She snaked her hand into mine. However, it just made Apollo growled. She pretended she didn’t hear him that she even put her head on my shoulder. What’s with these siblings? Are they going to make my life even harder?
“You don’t have the rights to bargain with me, little sister. You’re at fault here.” He yelled which caused us to whimper.
I saw Andrius grinned at the corner but when the alpha tilted his head towards him, he fakely cough and stood firm behind. The alpha hissed at him.
“He’s going to stay with me,” he admitted.
My eyes grew bigger at his decision. Why would I stay at his chamber?
“What?”
“What?”
Both Andrius and Shy blurted out in shock. Why would I be staying at his chamber? I know he may be protective with Shahida but that’s outrageous.
“No! He’s with me. For a record, he has someone already so he’s not going to do something bad. He doesn’t like you so he won’t be sharing bed with you. Isn’t that too early for the both of you?”
“Shahida, one more lustful words and thoughts and I’d burn your books right now. Try me, little sister,” he threatened.
“Then, why are you so adamant of staying with him?” Shy blurted her complaints to her brother. “He could stay at the servants quarter or in the guest room. We have a lot of chambers unoccupied. Why it has to be in your bedroom?”
I am waiting for his words. Shahida made sense. Even Andrius is waiting for an answer from him. What could be the reason why he would keep me to himself? Does he know about my skill and wanted to use me into his own accord?
“Uhh.. hmm.” He coughed. “He knows how to heal an invisible wound. And he could help me by staying with me close.”
“Right. He knew it already. You’re so stupid, Elias,” I thought to myself, silenly reprimanding my subconscious.
Andrius furrowed his brow at his answer and I wonder why. Does he know, too?
“I’ll lift your punishment for a day. Will that be okay?” he told her and Shy immediately agreed to him.
“Then, he’s yours.” She pushed me towards the alpha’s side and I saw his lips curved. Did he smile? The alpha do not smile.
“Did you just sold me out?” I asked Shahida all of a sudden in a soft tone. I was stunned when she pushed me. I thought she’s going to defend me.
“Alpha, I think this is wrong. If this decision would reach the council, you will be summoned again,” Andrius told him with concern. But, the alpha didn’t budge. “You know what will happen if they will report this to Lady Isabelle.”
“That is not your concern anymore, Andrius.”
The beta surrendered as to how bullheaded Apollo is. What he wants, he gets. And no matter how many would block his way, he will deliberately get it in any means. Typical alpha of the town.
I FOUND myself walking away from Shahida’s room with Apollo and Andrius. I was just behind him, making my pace fast because their strides were long and mine is just average.
As we walked on the empty hallway, an elegant woman revealed herself before us, walking with elegance and poise. She’s like an angel on Earth. She’s unbelievably gorgeous.
I bumped my head at Apollo’s toned back as I didn’t know he stopped and so did Andrius. His smell lingered on my nostrils and I was in trance. I didn’t know the smell of mayonnaise I abhor my entire life could be this overwhelming.
“Lady Isabelle,” Apollo uttered between his breathe. His words became soft and low. “How did you get in here?”
I saw Andrius bowed down and told me to do the same. And I did. I remembered her name from earlier. Andrius mentioned her when the alpha decided to keep me in his bedroom. Is she his wife?
But what caught my attention are the words that were coming like an ember sticking on my open wound.
The woman spoke softly like an angel humming, “My Alpha. How are you, my husband?”
Chapter 6: The Signs “What? What do you mean Isabelle is here?” Shahida’s voice echoed in her highly soundproof room after I told her that Isabelle came today. She could not contain her anger towards the situation because of a reason I was not aware of. This woman have so much hatred on her plate. It seems like she was born with anger. “Isn’t it amazing that the alpha’s wife have come home? I mean, she could be of help with the alpha here,” I asked curiously. The alpha and his wife should be together in handling the town as the wife provides emotional and physical support. It is only in Northcrest that the two seemed like have different perspectives on this matter. And even Shahida herself looked so done. She does not want Lady Isabelle here. It is certain. And she is not sugarcoating her treatment towards her sister in law. Other packs’ alpha and respective mates are together in the battle of life and death. But Northcrest looks at this matter differently. I do not really unders
Chapter 7: The Lady Isabelle I am kneeling nervously in front of Lady Isabelle in her office. It has been minutes since she slapped me in the hallway that I did not know the reason why. I could not lift my chin to face her. I heard a clicking of the spoon against the mug. “Do you know why I did that?” she spoke, emphasizing each word she uttered. “If it is about the cockroaches, Lady Isabelle, it was not me. I slept last night without knowing where your room is. I spent the night at Shahida’s and did not leave there until dawn. I am telling the truth.” “How dare you lie in front of the alpha’s wife?” She raised her voice impeccably, her veins popping on her fair neck. Never did cross my mind that the refine young woman in front of me could be this cruel. Shahida must be right. She is not the person whom everyone meet every day. Lady Isabelle must have misunderstood me being with the alpha that night. Perhaps, that was the reason she bursted out and not the cockroaches. But, I wan
Chapter 8: The Warning My body froze when the three warriors come to get me because of the blood dripping on my pale face. Two of them gripped each arm of mine. They smelt and licked my face as if taking their time. I thought their innate skills were stopped. Did Aunt Isadora lied to me? How come they know there’s a human blood here? I also felt their fear when one of them was uneasy of what he is doing. They are not here to kill me, I am certain. “Keep on licking or else—“ I did not hear what they were talking after when I saw Lady Isabelle on my peripheral vision, amusement written on her face. So, is this her doing? That answers my question earlier. “P-Please, d-don’t…” I begged, almost a whisper. What happened next is not something what I expected would happen. I felt their fangs touched my bare skin and their breathing were uneven. I am crying my heart out, fearing I will die even before I save Riley. I closed my eyes involuntarily and waited for it to dug inside. My whole
Chapter 9: His Hug ELIAS’ POV “I can’t believe him. Is he really my brother? Why is he so stupid?” Shahida had been complaining the moment we reached her room. She continuously speak ill towards her brother as I close the door shut behind me. “You know? Why can’t he see Isabelle’s two-faced act? Even a child could recognize it from afar.” She kept on questioning his brother’s decision with things around the mansion. I wondered if Shahida was like this even before; she knows how to judge a person quickly and I don’t think she’s being irrational. After meeting Isabelle that day, I have come to my senses that she is not a normal wife of the alpha in this house. She is actually intimidating and menacingly evil in all aspect of her body. The bed lunged down as Shahida sat down on it and scrunched her face in annoyance. She looked like the older sibling among them. The difference between these two are Shahida looked the situation subjectively, while Apollo looked at it on the objecti
Chapter 10: The Town Rally “So, what else did you two do? Did you it already? Come on, Elias, tell me!” I mistakenly told Shy about what happened last night in my pad. Alpha Apollo lent his bare body and the accidental hug I did. But, I didn’t expect that Shy would be this interested with what happened. Because we’ve been walking in the market for an hour already yet she didn’t drop the topic unless I’d tell her. “Then, what happened to you feet? You are sprained. Is that the after effect of the two you’re sharing? That is quite… wild.” “Nothing particular happened, Shy. Stop it. I hugged him and he hugged me back. That is normal for me,” I told her, not minding if that speaks for a meaning or not. That is the truth. After a couple of minutes of hugging and when I felt like I could handle the coldness, I was the first one to break the hug. It did not last that long that something would happen like how Shy imagined. Last thing I remember was him, sitting beside the bed, while I
Chapter 11: The Hike Shahida and I went to the nearby shop they called Fortluck. It sells magic potions, accessories they believe could alter their future, and services like foreseeing. The owner lends his bathroom for Shahida to get dressed and fix herself. While in the living room that connects his sacred place where he does his service, he offers me tea he made personally. According to him, it's tea that puts your mind at ease. “Thank you,” I said while smiling. I put the tea cup on the table. The owner stared at me as if I have dirt on my face so I examined myself but I didn’t see any. The man collected himself and smiled at me which I found odd. “Is there something wrong with me?” I asked, fixing myself again. “Were you from Tillbury or were you originally here in Northcrest?” Heban, the owner, asked all of a sudden. Tillbury was outside Northcrest, that’s not under its jurisdiction. I smiled when he mentioned my hometown which is Tillbury. I spent my childhood days there
Chapter 12: The Help ELIAS’ POV My body stiffened as it slides further downwards. Screaming loudly, I thought my soul separated from my body upon the huge impact. I immediately gripped a rock near me and hold on to it tightly. Gladly it was nott that bad but I felt my body ached from the slip. My forehead creased as a jolt of pain from everywhere surfaced as I try to get back. Lifting my body upwards, I held onto the twig tightly. I lowered my gaze down and saw how deep is the cliff I would be fall onto. If ever I would fall, I will be found alive nor dead. I would be drowned into the water or be eaten by a wildlife as a boar waited for me. “Elias, are you okay? Hold on tight!” Shahida shouted at me. Her face looked so worried upon seeing my situation. “I’m okay, Shahida. I… I will climb upwards,” I answered trying to lighten her worries. Even the warrior is fear-stricken. They could not believe I fell down. They offered their help however it was not enough to get me upwards.
Chapter 13: The Jealousy Everyone was on their heels again. We crossed rivers, shallow streams, and deep woods. During our hike, I did not feel like he is tired. I even heard him laugh a little but I shrugged it off because my brain tends to play little games. The village was mapped at the belly of the mountain top. The road became flat and more accessible to wheels. We finally reached the village by noon. “Welcome to our village, Alpha… and to you Lady Shahida,” he greeted while bowing his head down. The head villager welcomed us especially Apollo and Shahida. They talked things about what they have been through and what they need. I noticed that these people were traditional one because of how they look; their dresses were somehow related to their culture. There is a hall where everybody were staying. It was made of bamboo and coconut leaves. They were stuck inside because their stuff was in ruins. It was like the place was being wiped out from the map. “Are you sure you can w
Chapter 56: The New LeavesElias opens his eyes in a familiar place. The familiar bed he’s laying, the dark room he’s in, and the familiar figure from the window. One thing sinks in his mind is the alpha’s room.Seeing him from a distant, Elias could nto help but runs toward the alpha’s direction. he hugs him from his waist which makes the alpha stills.“Apollo,” he cries.“Glad what you are touching?”Elias slaps his abs lightly as Apollo chuckles at his shyness. Apollo turns his body towards Elias and faces him with all his heart.“You are late.”“Huh?” Elias looks confuse.“Why did you wake up so late? Everyone has been waiting for our wedding?”“Wedding?” He pulls himself from him.“Yeah. Our wedding. Shahida takes care of everything while Rowan keeps on nagging me because you sleep for an entire season.”“I sleep the entire season?”“Do you have anything to say other than questioning me back of what I have said?”“The last time I check, we are in a war and I died. I met Aunt Isad
Chapter 54: Should I Give Up? “Let Elias leave and you will have your precious daughter back.” Shahida threatens the Senior Council which makes him stands up. Even Andrius himself stops what he is doing with Rico and focuses on Isabelle instead. Apollo never expects that Shahida would make Isabelle a hostage. This is not part of the plan. She is supposed to be in the hideout as of this moment. “Shahida, what are you doing here?” Apollo blurts out. “You’re suppose to be away from here.” “Shahida!” Rowan exclaims. “Drop that weapon.” “I’m sorry, gentlemen, but I could not let you both stay here. This war starts because of me,” Shahida admits. “If I didn’t like Rowan before, we will not be here fighting one another.” Rowan feels guilty. “Shahida, you are so young back then. You have no idea what’s happening. The adults have wronged you, not yourself,” Sergio lectures her who is beside her trying to stop her. Shahida grips Isabelle’s neck tighter with her left arm as her right ho
Chapter 53: The War“Stop!”The warrior from the entrance of the Valencourt mansion cut them from entering the premises. Apollo and Rowan share glances as the warrior comes to inspect what they bring.“Do you have an invitation for the event? You cannot go inside without invitation,” asks the warrior.Because of their cloak and look, the warrior fails to recognize them. Shahida paints them make up for them to look like the Nightingale’s staff—a tavern which sells women and wines.Rowan answers, “We are from the Nightingale and the Senior Council… I mean the new Alpha orders us new goods for tonight. We are runnin late and we need to take them inside.”Apollo should stay silent because his voice is too arrogant and authorative. He will be recognize once he speaks one word.“You can check it if you’re doubting,” Rowan offers, motioning his hand to the closed wagon.“I’ll check the goods, then.”The warrior checks the wagon from the small window. He sneaks and finds women with their silk
Chapter 52: The Preparation The next morning, the training were divided into five and they were spearheaded by Sergio, Rowan, Apollo, Shahida, while other old people helped Elias in making sleeping bomb. Those people whom they saved last night helped in making weapons and since they were warriors who had sentenced in their lifetime. It wasn’t hard for Apollo in the training. They were also given the chance to surrender themselves to the Northcrest and they were automatically be free if they win their battle. If not, Apollo will let them do what they want to do with their lives. Thye just need to stay alive… whatever it takes. Sergio trained some for combat fight. He grouped them in pair and each pair had to fight. Meanwhile Rowan and Apollo took the other to use weapons and tools for fighting. Apollo has expertise in swords so he taught them the proper stance and the correct posture so that they will not hurt themselves. Shahida, on the other hand, taught women physical combat and
Chapter 51: The Plans “Alpha, our armed forces are not enough for the war you have been planning. We were only few in here. Our women couldn’t fight, especially old and children.” Sergio explained his concerns as Apollo planned to attack his mansion. He had already told Rowan about his plan. However, as Sergio mentioned it would be hard for them to visualize in the real time. Most people here are old and children which are unable to be with them. Their women have no experience when it comes to war and they have been deprive of the Northcrest to wear and bring tools for war. They are only reserved in the kitchen, in the house. There, Apollo realized what he have been missing all these years. The discrimination and culture he preserved for the Northcrest became a sad truth as they only make them investment inside the house. “Our weapon are nothing compared to theirs. You know that, beta Rowan. We will surely lose even we will try so hard. We’ll just go there and die,” the other one
Chapter 50: The Fake Winning Three days after… “The alpha of Northcrest has dead. The alpha of Northcrest has dead!” The news spread like wildfire inside Northcrest, that Apollo---the alpha---left the universe. People at the public market couldn’t believe it. As the news bearer continued announcing while throwing the newspaper into the air. People stopped from what they’re doing. They knelt down on the ground and stayed silent to give the alpha’s soul and commemoration. It was a long silence and the alpha’s apologists couldn’t believe what they hear, especially Heban, who once attended to Elias and Shahida. “The Senior Council must have done this. The alpha won’t die like this. That is impossible.” Heban is a seer. He could see future and feel if the person is dead or not. To his confusion, he can still feel the presence of the alpha. Meanwhile at Valencourt’s mansion, Isabelle ordered everyone to remove all the things Elias used. They fired people who were loyalists
Chapter 50: The Return Shahida was having fun with everyone inside the hideout as Alari and other kids were teaching her shadow play. It’s a game of poor to average people used to play when there’s no light. They make animal shadows through their hands and reflect it to the wall. She was having fun when she heard a commotion outside. “Alari, wait here, huh? I’ll just check outside. Don’t let your friends go out. Understood?” she told Alari who kept on nodding at her. “Yes, Aunt Shahida.” “Good boy.” Shy pinched his fat cheek and went outside. Shahida shut the door closed and roamed her eyes around. Her gaze was fixated to Rowan’s people who gathered around to someone who were lying on the ground. At first, she thought it’s one of the warriors, however when she recognized the ring on its finger, she immediately ran towards the person. “Brother…” she cried as she knelt down on the ground. Everyone bowed their heads, mourning for the death of Apollo and Elias. “What happened to him?
Chapter 49: Heart Stopper Apollo drove his car beyond his usual speed after learning the truth. After he left the hall earlier, he went straight to the sentinel where Lily and Lyla were. He asked the two while kneeling on the floor to speak for the truth. He cried in front of the two which the two didn’t expect. Fearing that they will be killed, the alpha assured them that he will spare them. “The beta told us to never talk,” Lily started. “It was the beta’s order to put poison powder on the food,” Lyla added softly. “Forgive us, alpha,” the two pleaded. Apollo’s veins on his neck popped up in anger. He stood from his feet and gathered all his men to the public market. All he thinks that moment is that getting Elias safe from the sentence. I’m sorry, Eli. I’ll be there. Wait for me. Apollo arrived at the market in chaos and inorder. People were screaming as masked men were slaughtering the Senior Council’s men. Elias was no longer seen on the platform. “Leave these people on m
Chapter 47: The Court Hearing “What do you mean Elias murdered Aunt Isadora?” Rowan’s voice echoed the four cornered room as Shahida told him what happened in the mansion. She made it into detail which made Rowan’s blood boil. He couldn’t believe that after all Venise’s had suffered, she will be on her deathbed again. “Why would Elias do that? She cannot do such a thing. I… I mean Venise.” His face screamed confusion. He couldn’t fathom why would Elias do such thing. After many days of investigating Elias from a distance, Rowan knew how good of a person he is. Even after he discovered at he is Venise. It does not make sense to him. “The evidences were pointed to him. Even I didn’t fo,b vresee he could do it,” Shy explained. “We know how much Venise loved Aunt Isadora. She won’t do it.” Shy shook her head. “I don’t know anymore.” “When’s the court hearing begin?” he asked. Instead of answering him, she asked back, “Where’s the sun right now?” “At east.” “They’re probably sta
