The car raced down the dark road, the smell of smoke still clinging to Sasha’s hair. Her hands trembled as she clutched the seatbelt, her heart pounding in her chest.

“Turn around!” she yelled, her voice breaking. “We can’t leave him there!”

“We’ll die if we go back,” Ethan snapped, his knuckles white on the steering wheel. His usual calm was gone, replaced by raw fear.

Marcus, seated next to her, looked grim. “Alex can handle himself. He ordered us to leave for a reason.”

Sasha shook her head, tears streaming down her face. “You don’t know that. Kane was—he was too strong. We can’t just abandon him!”

“Sasha,” Marcus said softly, placing a hand on her arm. “If Alex doesn’t make it, he’d want you safe. That’s all he’s ever wanted.”

The words hit her like a knife, but she refused to accept them. “He’s alive. I know he is.”

The car swerved suddenly as Ethan cursed under his breath. “We’ve got company.”

In the rearview mirror, Sasha saw the headlights of several vehicles gaining on them.

Something that shouldn’t have woken up?Ethan paced the room, his wolf-like agitation evident in every movement. “You’re telling me there’s something worse than Kane’s pack? Worse than the crap we’ve already been dealing with?” He stopped mid-step, his amber eyes narrowing on Alex. “What aren’t you telling us?”Alex leaned heavily against the wall, his chest rising and falling as he caught his breath. “There are legends,” he said finally, his voice hoarse. “About an alpha so powerful he became more than a wolf. They called him Fenrir. Most think it’s just a myth, but I’m not so sure anymore.”“Fenrir?” Sasha repeated, the name foreign on her tongue but dripping with menace.“He’s supposed to be bound,” Alex explained, his gaze distant as if he was reliving the stories he’d heard. “Cursed to sleep for eternity because no pack could control him, not even his own. But if he’s

The memory of his glowing eyes, that haunting mix of human and wolf, burned in her mind. She couldn’t lose him, not now.“Sasha, we need to focus,” Ethan said, his voice cutting through her thoughts. He glanced back, his gaze sharp but concerned. “Thinking about him won’t help if we don’t survive the night.”“I am focused,” she snapped, pushing a branch out of her way. “I just refuse to believe he’s gone.”Ethan stopped abruptly, his broad frame blocking her path. “I’m not saying he’s gone. I’m saying that whatever’s inside him now is dangerous. You saw it. That wasn’t just Alex.” His voice softened, his hand brushing her arm. “I know you love him, but—”“Don’t,” she interrupted, her voice cracking. “Don’t say it like that. Like he’s already lost.”Ethan sighed, his expression unreadable. “I’m not trying to hurt you, Sa

His head snapped toward her, his gaze predatory for the briefest moment before his expression softened. “Are you hurt?” Before she could answer, Ethan groaned from where he was sprawled on the floor. The wolf’s blow had left a gash on his temple, and blood trickled down his face. “I’m fine,” Ethan grumbled, dragging himself upright and retrieving the sword. “But what the hell is going on, Alex? They’re not just after her. This is bigger.” Alex didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he crouched beside the lifeless wolf in the study, his fingers tracing the distinct markings carved into its fur. His jaw tightened as recognition dawned on him. “They’re not hunters,” he said grimly, his voice barely above a whisper
