Kian pov My wife and I were slowly becoming strangers in our own house, she wasn't making much of an effort to see me anymore and even though I was checking up on her through the servants, I wasn't personally going to meet her. We didn't even sleep on the same bed anymore and I made sleeping arrangements for myself in my office. The first time my second in command came in and saw them he didn't say anything but the longish way he stared at them and how his eyes would immediately dart to them at any given opportunity just made me fed up and I had to just explain why I had sleeping arrangements in my office.“I'm working out some things in my marriage right now,” I said as I placed more documents on my desk and watched for his reaction. It was the same face he still carried in a moment ago as if the information I had given him made little to no difference when all of them were all hankering for my relationship to end.“Well, fight all the time I'm sure that you guys will settle whatev
Evelyn's pov “Yes, I finally figured it out!” I said with joy as I lifted my head from my desk and rocked back on my chair standing up in the same movement and lifting a small piece of paper with a set list scribbled down. It had been excavated from a mountain pile of some littered around.I was excited to show it to my husband because he was going to be excited as well and I was elated myself because of that, so I went to look for him and one of the guards. He beautifully pointed me over to my husband who at that point was standing at the balcony with his second in command and both of them had a serious aura between them, my instinct told me to stop and think, so I did and then I heard my name gently coming out of my husband's mouth but despite the gentleness there was this coldness to it. My heart ached, I had been bouncing here with so much excitement that he would probably be excited to see me. I clung to the piece of paper in my hand.If I showed him this piece of paper and I to
Kian's pov“This is actually quite brilliant…” the head doctor exclaimed, taking out his spectacles and observing the piece of paper I had given him, running his eyes across it with them almost running out of their sockets.“Are you sure that your wife came up with this?” He asked with astonishment. After taking the paper to the Head doctor for the first time he had looked at it skeptically and then cynically when I told him that my wife was the one that came up with it. The look on his face was more than enough to tell me that he wanted to question the point of even researching the herbs that she claimed could possibly solve the problem at hand but right now I will stretch to my limits and be ready to consider every possibility. “I don't mean any disrespect at all but don't you think that it would be a waste of resources to look into this?” He asked me, and looking straight at him, I asked him if he had any cure for the disease that was ravaging my people. “If you have a cure yo
Evelyn's pov “How is he?” His cool eyes traveled gradually to meet mine, taking his sweet time to show he had minimal desire to do so. “He?” he sighed with an arched brow.“Do you mean your husband?” He said less mechanically, after 2 days of radio silence since my husband decided to test the cure I had come up with. I couldn't hold myself back anymore and my feet found their way in front of his beta's mahogany desk in his office, pleading to know what had become of him. “He's fine…” he practically drilled out then returned back to the work I had found him with. Now the disrespect was far too much for me to pretend that there wasn't any. I slammed my open palm on the table, he looked at me, his eyes filled with bewilderment. He had probably not expected me to do that, nor did I but I needed some way to get his attention and at least a little bit of his absolute lack of interest had flickered away even if I just had it for the moment I would use it. I openly admitted to him that I
Evelyn's pov “I can't tell you how much this means to me. I have been worried sick and I don't know what I'm going to do anymore. I feel like I'm losing my mind…”I said to my husband's Beta as he escorted me through the hospital with a medical professional with us, all of us were wearing protective gear and we were getting closer to the quarantine area of my husband, he had been excluded from the other patients of course, so that the doctor could observe him and see if he was recovering. In response to my gratefulness, my husband's beta checked his wristwatch snappy and turned to me, he told me that we were going to spend exactly one hour and a half here and by the time that was over, all of us were leaving, he told me that he wasn't going to be able to listen to my please if I asked to stay longer.Even though speaking with him felt like I was talking with someone over a wall it was nice to know that he had come to respect me even if it was just a little bit and he was helping me
Evelyn pov After getting that pep talk from my husband's second in command I realized that I was wasting valuable time, instead of staying in the waiting room and moping hopelessly sitting like a dog for things to turn out right I had to do something myself. So I lifted my chin until my eyes were looking straight into his. “Chris I'm going to need another favor from you,” He looked at me surprisingly then after a moment or two he quickly nodded. “Thank you we don't have a single second to spare, Kian's life is on the line and if I am just right about this we can save him…” In a few minutes, he had actually fulfilled the request I made of him. As I was stepping into the lab, the same one that was working on the head medicine that I had made and all of their faces seemed to turn in uniformity when we stepped in. The Beta held up a card that had gotten us through several security and staff and once he put them down with it he ushered me forward to who appeared to be the head of
Evelyn's pov I woke up feeling ache in every single part of my body but the physical pain I was experiencing was little compared to the emotional pain that was truly tearing me apart, that morning the healer had been invited to the hospital but declared the same news along with the head doctor that my husband was in a sort of state of limbo. He had not rejected the treatment and yet his body had not reacted to it either, so he was still being observed right now to see if there would be any improvements or if he would relapse completely meaning that I got another day with my heart hanging on a thread. Which was why I needed to do something. I needed to make myself useful so that I wouldn't spend the entire day moping into the night. I didn't know how long my husband would be in this state but it meant that the position of a leader was being open and even if the people didn't trust me enough to fully lead them, I wanted to at least be able to help them which was why it would
Evelyn's pov I didn't know that I could rush so quickly until I heard the news and the next thing I knew my feet were carrying me over but then that was when I was grabbed suddenly by Chris, as I was stopped from my propelled movement he apologized for abruptly doing so. “Have you forgotten?” He told me and I looked at him with confusion as I blinked my eyelashes. I wanted to see my husband, he had woken up. “Kian doesn't know you are here…remember? He told me to protect you and he would absolutely lose his mind if he found out that you came to this hospital,”Immediately, all the excitement in my chest caved in, I was stupidly rushing over to see him because of my excitement I didn't allow myself to think for a second just how infuriated he would be with his second in command if he found out and I knew that he would grow even colder to me. “I'm sorry I wasn't thinking at all…” I said but that was not enough to wipe away the smile from my face. He was all right. The cure had worke
