Chapter 1

Alexandra's POVThe sudden cacophony of screams outside the lab window startled me out of my concentration. I turned to see Davis Beckett, the school's star athlete, surrounded by a gaggle of adoring girls. Though I tried to return to my work, I tried to resist to be drawn in by the spectacle.""He's such a hottie!" Summer gushed, her eyes glued to Davis. I had to admit, he was easy on the eyes, but I couldn't bring myself to swoon like the rest of the girls."A hottie with no brains," I scoffed, my focus firmly on the task at hand. But my words didn't have the intended effect - Summer just rolled her eyes and laughed."Oh, come on! You can't deny that he's got some serious swagger," l couldn't help but roll my eyes back at her. "Swagger doesn't give good grades" Summer,' I said. 'A good head on your shoulders does. That's what we should be focusing on, instead of mooning over a pretty face.'" Suddenly, the door swung open and in walked Davis himself. "Pretty face! She finally ag

Alexandra's POV My dad's cooking always brought back fond memories of my childhood, and it was nice to feel that connection again. But something was missing from this bonding moments, my mother. She had always been the one to set the table, making sure everything was just right. I wished she could have been here with us, enjoying the meal and the conversation, But I knew that was impossible. My mother had passed away a few years ago, and her absence was still felt deeply. I tried to push the sadness away, focusing instead on the moment I was sharing with my dad. My dad cleared his throat and looked at me with a mixture of nervousness and excitement. "I have something to tell you, but I'm not sure how you'll react," he said, his voice shaking slightly. I felt a knot of apprehension form in my stomach, wondering what could be so important that he was this nervous to tell me. "I'm all ears, Dad," I said, trying to sound reassuring. I knew whatever he had to say was weighing heavily

Alexandra's POV As my dad's red Jeep pulled up to the massive white mansion, I couldn't help but be impressed. His soon-to-be bride and my soon-to-be stepmom was clearly filthy rich, anyone could tell from the expensive cars parked around the property and the butlers and maids standing at attention, ready to welcome us. It was all a little overwhelming, and I couldn't help but feel a bit out of my element. But I tried to put on a brave face as I stepped out of the car."Welcome, Mr. and Miss Moore," one of the butlers said, his voice smooth and polished. The butler tried to help me with my luggage, but I politely declined. "I can manage it myself, thank you," I said with a smile. But the butler was insistent. ""Alex, I think you should let George help you with your bag," Roselyn said as she approaches us. She must have heard the small argument I was having with the butler. I felt a bit embarrassed to have my dad's soon-to-be wife see me like this, but I didn't want to be a burde

Alexandra's POV "AHHHH!" I shrieked, jumping back as I spotted the cockroaches scuttling across my clothes. "What the--" I couldn't finish the sentence, frozen in horror.Within moments, my dad and Roselyn rushed into my room, their robes billowing behind them. My dad's eyes widened in alarm as he spotted the roaches. "What the—"he began, but Roselyn cut him off."Zora!" she yelled, summoning the maid. Zora appeared in the doorway, her face a mask of concern. "Why are there roaches in Alexandra's closet?" Zora's eyes widened as she took in the scene. She hurried to my side, her hands clasped together. "I'm so sorry, Miss Alexandra. I didn't know there were roaches in here. I'll get the exterminator right away."Roselyn turned to Zora, her voice stern. "This is completely unacceptable. How could this happen?""I don't know, madam," Zora said, her voice shakingBut I was still reeling from the shock of seeing the roaches. As I stood there, trying to process what had just happened

Chapter 5

Alexandra's POV The holiday break was over, and school was starting again. I couldn't help but feel a sense of dread as I thought about the days ahead. I had agreed to keep my relationship to Davis a secret, but that didn't make things any easier. Every time I saw him, I was reminded of what he had said to me that night at the ballroom. And it wasn't easy to forget. "Davis, quit flirting around!" I heard Drake yell across the quad. I turned to see Davis and his girlfriend, Chloe, making out in the pitch"I know, right?" Summer said, shaking her head in disgust. "He's such a player." But even as I watched them, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy. It was stupid and irrational, but it was there. I quickly pushed the feeling aside, reminding myself that I had agreed to keep things platonic between us. I couldn't let my emotions get the better of me.As I sat there, watching them, I wondered how I was going to get through the next few months. How was I going to pretend that

Chapter 6

Alexandra's POV I stepped into the pool party uninvited, ignoring the stares that followed me. I knew why they were looking; thanks to Davis, my stepbrother, my personal writings, embarrassing, intimate things I’d never meant for others to see, had become everyone’s entertainment. My fists clenched as I pushed through the crowd, eyes fixed only on him. There he was, laughing, carefree, while I was barely holding myself together. “What the hell are you doing…” he started, but before he could finish, my fist connected with his face. “You worthless jerk,” I spat, oblivious to the stares and the whispers that were growing louder around us. “Who’s she?” someone muttered. “The girl with the lusty diary. Freak,” another voice chimed in, the insult piercing through me. I wanted to say something back, but the words stuck in my throat. Maybe confronting Davis here, in front of everyone, had been a mistake. But I was here now. Davis smirked. “You hear that? Freak. If I were you, I’d leave
