Aubrey's POV
Eating a bowl of cereal while sitting on the couch, lost in thought, I heard a knock on the door that dragged me to the door, still feeling a bit numb.
There, on my doorstep, stood Xander, holding a bouquet. He looked nervous, and I stared at him blankly, unsure of what to say.
“You weren’t picking up my calls” he began, causing me to eye him up.
I wasn't impressed, and he must have noticed it. Without giving him room to speak, I asked instead, “Why is it whenever I get into trouble with your pals you can’t do anything!?”, my voice rising in frustration.
“You were there but very useless when I needed you, and now you're here trying to make it up to me with flowers?”
“I’ll make it up to you please” he apologized, looking sorry, but I didn’t mind…maybe my mind wanted to create a scenario in which I’d break up with him.
“It doesn't work that way. You can't show up and expect everything to be okay.”
He looked down, his expression full of shame. “I know I messed up,” he said, and it was beginning to sound like an annoying chant.
“But I promise I'll do better from now on, Let me make it up to you, there’s a block party I’d want you to come to”
“When?” I asked less interested.
“Now, Alexis said I should make sure you’d come too,” he pleaded and the eyes I could see glancing at us made me aware that I kept him standing outside.
“Come in and wait, I’d go change”
Reluctantly, I changed out of her pajamas and into a nice dress, determined to put on a brave face for the party.
Then, I went back out to the living room, where Do Xander was still waiting. “Are we set to go?” he asked, and I nodded, still unable to meet his eyes.
When we arrived at the venue, Xander immediately blended in, but I was not too comfortable with the type of people I was seeing at the party.
They were all the same age as I was, but their ravaging hormones were something that extremely amazed me. This was my first time attending a party with Xander, and I was feeling improper at the party, surrounded by a crowd of people I didn’t know or understand.
Xander got a little too comfortable as he drank too much, and I began getting worried that he was going to get himself into trouble.
No matter what I tried saying to him, he just shrugged me off until he was fully intoxicated, worse still Alexis he had said wanted me was nowhere to be found.
I spent my whole time there stopping him from creating a mess, and when it was finally time to go, he weirdly offered me a drink.
“Come on, baby, you have done nothing here but stop me from getting drunk, which you failed too woefully.
“What are you saying!”
“Just one drink,” he pleaded drunkenly, pushing the glass he had gotten from his friend toward me.
I stared at him skeptically, but he urged.
“I promise it won't hurt. You'll feel better, I promise.” I still hesitated, knowing that driving while intoxicated was dangerous.
“My friends are watching, please Just take it, Just this once”, I would rather not disappoint him.
Reluctantly, I took the glass and took a small sip. The liquid burned my throat, and I could feel it going to my head already. I knew I shouldn't have listened to him, but I found myself gulping down the liquid.
When we arrived at the apartment, I was slowly feeling dizzy, and I was bothered about how the liquor was slowly taking effect on me.
As I helped him to the room, my head was spinning, and I felt like I was drifting in and out of consciousness.
The room seemed to be spinning around me, and I was struggling to focus on anything. His words were fuzzy and distant, but I could make out his intentions.
“Just this once baby” he whispered, and I tried to speak, to say no, but my words wouldn't come out. All I could do was watch in horror as he leaned closer. “I need you, Baby”
“No," I finally managed to croak out.
“Please, I'm not ready, Xander.” But it either didn't seem to hear me or chose to ignore me. He kept moving closer, and I felt sick to my stomach.
That was happening, but I couldn't believe what was happening. In a last desperate attempt, I tried to push him away, but my hands were shaking, and my movements were weak. I felt like she was trapped, with no way to escape.
Xander’s expression swiftly changed from eager to furious instantly as his eyes narrowed, and his face turned red with rage.
“How dare you say no to me!” he shouted, his voice booming through the room.
“You're mine, and you'll do as I say! I fucking drugged the drink for this and there is no denying me this"
“I’ve been waiting long enough, and I want you now! l my heart sunk even further, and it was then I realized how much danger I was in.
I swiftly stood up and as I tried to back away, he grabbed my arm and pulled me close. With all the strength I could muster, I pushed him away and ran out the door.
I sprinted down the sidewalk, my heart pounding in my chest with tears spilling down my eyes.
I could hear Xander calling after me, but I didn't look back. I just kept running, trying to put as much distance between us as possible.
Just as I turned the corner, I saw the car coming straight toward me. She tried to stop, but it was too late. The last thing I remembered was the sound of screeching tires and the impact of the collision and I struggled to stay conscious, I heard a familiar voice call out, “Aubrey!”.
And then, everything went black.
Aubrey's POV, Fucking hell! I muttered as my head pounded violently, like a hammer was having a field day. What the hell? I groaned loudly and rubbed my head. A hand touched me and I felt a tingling. Even in my painful state, I knew whose hand it was. Mr. Knight! I finally opened my eyes, My head hurt, and my body ached like I had been run over by a truck. I needed to sleep. The unfamiliar house came into my view and “Don't touch me.” I muttered.Mr. Knight stared at me with hurt in his eyes, and that tugged at my heartstrings. “That's no way to greet the man who saved your life.” Stretching a steaming cup, "Here's a cup of coffee. It's black. Your head must be banging.” He said calmly, and that irritated the hell out of me. “ I don't want it,” I replied and attempted to rise from the bed. I fell flat on my ass. Ouch! I hissed in pain. Mr. Knight was at my side instantly. “ Easy…. Please take it easy.” He said and held my waist to support me. Electricity ran through my body, t
Aubrey's POVThe door slammed shut, reverberating through the house. A rustling sound was heard, and I wondered what he was unwrapping. He returned to the room with clothes; a pair of jeans and a flannel shirt hanging from his hands. What is going on here? I thought.“ You can wear this.” He stretched them forward to me.“ I want to leave,” I said and stood up. This time, my legs cooperated with me. I slipped my leg into the footwear beside the bed.“ You can't leave.” My head shot up at his statement. “ You are holding me prisoner?” He rolled his eyes, "You know what I mean.” I shook my head. “ No, I don't know what you mean. What I'm hearing is someone who wants to keep me here against my will. This is called kidnap, you know that.” I retorted and adjusted my dress. He pinched the bridge of his nose in irritation. “ You are one stubborn lass.” He said.“ That's why you treated me poorly. I am leaving, and you will not stop me.” “ Xander might be at your house.” “ I will deal w
Aubrey's POV " Please hear me out." He jumped up from the bed and walked towards me.I pointed at him," Stop, just stay here where you are. Don't move an inch closer." She said." I don't know what came over me. I'm so sorry, you know that I will never want to hurt you." My heart raced faster when I calculated how fast it would take me to run out of this place. Why did I lock the door?" Babe?" I stood still, "How did you get my key?" He raised a brow, " You gave it to me. It's always under the pot." I guess I had to change it." Please hand it over." He took a step further and I moved a step backwards. " Babe, don't be this way. I was drunk. I'm sorry." I picked up my flip-flop as a shield. It was quite funny but It was the first thing I could think of. " I don't want you around me. Get out of my house!" I ordered. He tried to grab my hand." It's late, I can't go home now. Let's resolve this. I know that I made a mistake." "I will scream bloody murder, get out of my house. I
Aubrey's POV I had never been more happy to see anyone, I jumped into the car immediately, and my heart began to calm down gently."That was the boy who bullied you the other day." He said as he drove on. His fingers drummed against the wheel and I felt anger from him in waves. " Was he bullying you again?" He asked.I turned to face him, his shoulders were taut like a coiled string. Was it my eyes or did his eyes go darker? " They are not important," I said, and he pierced me with a scorching look. As a weirdo, that I am, I thought it was hot. Bad bad Aubrey.Oh my goodness. I didn't know why I was protecting him. Judging from his stance, he looked like he could hurt them. "It was exactly what it was, You are being bullied? Why didn't you say anything?" Hello? Who was I supposed to report to? They were the big boys in the school, I didn't want to attract attention to myself. " I would have a word with those boys." He said." Just let it go. I have it under control." " Hmmm."
Aubrey's POV " You look like a zombie, Aubrey." Alexis gasped immediately I walked into our class the next morning. " Gee, thanks," I muttered sarcastically, all eyes were on me. My face flamed as I trudged to my seat. Thankfully, only a few students were present, and they did well not to look at us. She chuckled when I finally arrived at my seat which was beside hers, " Seriously, you look like shit. I almost couldn't recognize you." She repeated. Then her face tilted into concern, " Are you sure that you are feeling better? We could go to the hospital." She suggested. How does one stay mad at such a person? One minute she was embarrassing you and the next, concerned about your welfare. " Yes, to get your head checked." She laughed heartily, picking no offense, " Are you sure they can handle it? My craziness is top tier." She laughed louder.I shook my head at her antics, " So... What assignment are we doing today?" She clapped her hands gleefully, and I raised a brow. " What?"
Aubrey's POV I met Alexis and Sylvia another coursemate of mine, in his office, when I got there. "You will be the class representative." He said, and Alexis gave me a thumbs up from where she was sitting. I don't want this position! Being in the know that people were watching me, I smiled, " Alright, sir."He returned his attention to the students before him, and I went out of his office. Was that the reason for the drama? I didn't know what they were asking him. My phone buzzed in my pocket, and I swiped the screen angrily. "What?!" " Hey, babe. Who got on your nerves?" Xander replied, and I rolled my eyes. " Why aren't you in school?" I replied. He was supposed to be here." I was caught up with a few things. I had to sort them out. Did you write my name on the attendance sheet?" " I should have known that is why you are calling." " No, It was urgent, I'm sorry that I didn't call. Did you?" He repeated. He was doing stuff that couldn't be spoken about. Well, I didn't care.
Knight's POV " Incoming call from Josh," Siri announced, and I rose from my bed. Today was a weekend, and I needed to hit the gym. This urban community wasn't conducive for me to shift and it bothered me a lot. I guess the treadmill would bear the brunt." Hello, Josh," I said immediately I picked up the phone. What was going on? It was quite unusual for Josh to call this early on a weekend. "A group of rogues were seen at the outskirts of the pack last night. We were able to chase them to the border, but unable to catch them." He explained. I knew it, something bad had happened. " Nobody was harmed right?" My pack's safety was important to me." Yes- No, a few warriors got scraped during the fight." He said." How is Ellie doing?" "Great. She's been filling into her shoes perfectly. It's almost like she was her." He replied, refusing to mention my wife's name because it was a sore topic for all of us. She just left without saying goodbye." Okay, if they appear again, let me kno
Aubrey's POV "What?" His eyes widened a tiny fraction, at my question." Forget that I said anything. I just came to say thank you." I replied and turned to leave. His hand shot out to grip mine, and I felt hot and bothered. What did he mean by that? " What gave you that impression?" He asked. "Ramon is a big bully. He's never afraid of anyone. Forgive me if I think that you are in the mob. You must have done something to make him agree to stay away." I replied. "You are not kidding." He replied."Aubrey!" Xander called from the glass. I jumped and tried to jerk my hand away from his grip.He stared at me, "I told you to leave that boy. He is bad news. "He replied and reluctantly let go of my hand."I'll be the judge of that," I muttered and walked back to the gym." What were you discussing?" Xander asked as we watched him drive off. Then turned to face me. " Why was he holding your hand?" He asked.I squinted, " Why the interrogation? How am I supposed to know?" I replied. He fr
