Happy Birthday Hayley

"Happy birthday Hayley!"

I froze in my steps, their words ran in my head over and over again.

It was my birthday.

And they were celebrating it.

"What?!" I breathed out.

"Wait, it's your birthday right. Yesterday your mother said it was but we could not tell whether or not it was true. It's your birthday," Lance asked, his shoulder tensing up as he did.

"Um...yes, it is," I replied, still stunned by the surprise.

"Good," he said, wearing a birthday cap on my head and his.

My workshop was decorated, I wanted to complain about why they moved my hard earned work but what they replaced it with was way worth it to talk.

"The cake is almost here–"

"There is a cake?!" I shrieked.

"Yes," Lance smiled.

There was going to be a cake for me, people were around to help me celebrate my birthday. It had never happened in such a long time.

The last time it did, I was seven years old. It was the same year my brother died and the same here my parents stopped treating me like a person.
