Mr. Adamson Foster, a retired Commander General of Brookfield Naval Force slept beside his daughter, Anika Foster, an eight year old girl who was admitted at room 106 due to sudden vomiting and dehydration. The little girl has been suffering from this for more than three days so her parents decided to confine her at McLeod's Medical institute.
It was September 5, 2015, Anika was widely awake. The clock hand pointed 3:00 a.m. She went down her bed and looked outside from the window. The surrounding was peaceful, she heard nothing but the rustling leaves from a pine tree outside her room.
Suddenly, Anika's tummy started to ache that she can’t bare the pain she was feeling inside her body. Mr. Foster was awaken and saw the horrible scenario happening to her daughter.
There were droplets of blood coming out from her nose, so her dad called the doctor and Mr. Sigmund Morgan run quickly to attend for his patient. He injected Tranexamic Acid to stop the bleeding but her blood continued dropping. Few seconds had passed, she started turning her head from left to right as fast as she could. There were black glitches appearing on her forehead so Dr. Morgan thought that it was the effect of drug he injected. Anika twisted side by side so he injected beta-adrenelgic blockers to stop Anika from trembling. However, the child did not stop shaking, her head was now having little cracks from front and back. Wounds and scratches appeared all over her flesh, in her face, hands and even down her legs. The medical team was not anymore certain about what’s going on. Anika's heart beats suddenly slowed down, Dr. Morgan connected a pacemaker tube to bring back the normal heart rate of the kid. But no improvement happened.
Anika's father was hysterically jumping in tears while watching his daughter dying. After a minute, her stomach turned bloated and an internal explosion in the entire organs ended her life.
“Time of death 3:45 a.m.”
Dr. Morgan felt sorry about his failure to revive the child and he proceed at his quarter. He kept remembering what happened during the operation, but his mind was out of focus. He can’t understand everything. And that was the first ever death he had witnessed in his entire life as an outstanding general practitioner. He received many awards for his expertise in the field of medication. But this time, he questioned himself where part of the operation he failed.
One week later, an autopsy result was released about the death of Anika. According to Felix Cooper Foster, a pathologist for more than 10 years, he found out that the main cause of the child's death was an overdose to drug intake. He eventually confirmed that wrong practice of medication caused Anika’s sudden death.
Upon knowing the autopsy update, Mr. Foster filed a demand at Brookfield’s Trial Court accusing Dr. Ivan Morgan guilty of killing his child.
The Police knocked over the door of Morgan’s residence and it was Angelic Morgan who accommodated them. They presented an arrest warrant for her Dad who was having his breakfast that morning. Dr. Morgan stood up from the dining table and proceed to the police car without any hesitations nor question towards the authority.
Angelic run upstairs to change her clothes and get the car key.
While driving, she can’t figured out how the incident that night happened. Though she knew that it was really her father who did the operation, she was certain that there was something wrong, and it was not her father who murdered the kid.
She found her Dad inside the cell, he will be temporarily detained while the trial was being processed.
Angelic decided to handle her Dad’s case. She was working in a Public Attorneys' Office for five years after notching rank 1 during the 2010 Bar Examination. Private law firms had offered her good salaries but she refused and served publicly for those who can’t afford to pay a private lawyer.
She started interrogating her dad about the incident taken a week ago. However, Doctor Morgan was not uttering even single word. He was on his unconscious state of mind. He seemed thinking so deep that he does not hear his daughter talking.
“Come on Dad! How will I defend you for this case if you won’t say anything? I know you’re innocent. Helped me out to resolve this case, please.”
Doctor Morgan remained silent, no words came out from his mouth but his face was covered with fear and doubts. He was not the same person he was, before the tragic death took place.
Laura left the jail and went to Roosevelt’s Forensic Den where she could hire a private detective to help her over the case. She talked with Sheriff Gregor Smith and asked if he can recommend his best detective to resolve the case. Mr. Smith noted her request and promised to give her the best detective he had as soon as possible.
Angelic went home and proceed to her study room to analyse the incident, she made a comprehensive research about the types of drugs her dad injected to the eight year old kid. The claim of the autopsy report was a concrete evidence to prove her dad's guilt over the death. But she needed to do more investigation to solve the case and save her dad from imprisonment.
Suddenly, their helper knocked from her door and told her about the visitor waiting downstairs. Angelic thought that it was her friend Loren who came.
“Good evening Miss Morgan, I am William Smith, your private detective.”
William Smith was the private detective by Sheriff Smithp, his father. Laura asked him to have a seat and they started discussing about the case.
The next day, Angelic and William went back to the hospital where Anika Foster died. The first thing they did was to review the CCTV footage, but no odd image from the monitor was recorded. William suggested to see the room where the child has been admitted for more than three days. The room remained untidy, there were still blood and fluid on the floor, William took his micro cylinder to get some specimens, including the blood, fluid and some strands of hair scattered on the floor. The room was stinky but they continue finding things that could help them for the investigation.Angelic looked down the bed where Anika slept for three nights. There was a weird ambience she felt, she took up the pillow and saw a candy under it.“William, look at this.”William came over the bed and observed the candy. It was not a typical candy, there were holes inside, perhaps the rat beside ate it. They thought that it was just a newly manufactured candy,
William took an old file case on his table, the case was too old and covered with thick dust. He put all the documents out and scattered it so that Angelic could help her find the document they are looking for. They started to scan every detail written on the dusty papers.“LITTLE GIRL FOUND TORTURED TO DEATH AT MCLEOD’S MEDICAL INSTITUTE, September 5, 2005.”William was shocked after reading the headline from the dirty newspaper. Now, he remembered the case he handled 10 years ago. And that was the case that would connect questions in their minds. He took a strong and tight grip on the newspaper, Angelic asked if he was all right but William excused for a moment and went inside his bedroom. There was a scene flashing on his mind, a scene he never wanted to see again.Ten years ago, William Smith handled a case about a little girl who was found dead at McLeod’s Medical Institute. It has been three weeks since Doctor Morgan's detention and everything in his life was altered with just a blink of an eye. He was not used to the dusty wall and rusty grill surrounding him. It was a new world he never expect to enter. He almost lost his normal weight from 55 kilos to 45, he had not eaten well for the past weeks though Angelic never forget to send her healthy foods, he would not eat them, instead he would give it to the other detainees. One rainy night, he was feeling uncomfortable on his bed, there were rats under it making little noise which sounds irritating. He opened the light to check the underneath portion of his bed, the light flickered on and off. He thought that there was something wrong with the electric line so he turned the light off and returned to his bed. He gently closed his eyes and a cold breeze of the wind blown inside his cell, suddenly, the wall clock hung on the wall dropped and made a shocking sound. He opened the light again to
Early in the morning, Angelic came to visit his father. She brought him clean clothes including his medicines for hypertension, Bible and rosary. She reminded his dad to always take his medicines on time and eat proper foods since he was loosing weight. Angelic was in a hurry for she needed to pick William at his house. She was about to leave but Doctor Morgan told her about what happend the other night."Anika Foster visited me and she was begging for help."Angelic was surprised and felt glad that her dad had finally speak. But, she was bothered about what she had just heard."Anika Foster?" she asked."Yes... She was running the whole time around the cell, she was laughing and chucking. Angelic was really bothered about her dad's condition, she thought that he got traumatized with what happened. As much as she wanted to always stay with him, she has to accomplish the case investigation as soon as possible. She drove her car and went to William's house to pick him. It was almost lunch time when she arrived, and she was not eating yet. William took out the plate from his dish cabinet and gave it to Angelic."No, it's okay William. I'm not hungry."But William heard the sound of her starving tummy so they laughed and Angelic sat down beside the dining table to have her lunch."Well, the evidence is concrete Angelic."They laughed again, Angelic tasted the food delicious so she asked for more rice. The buttered chicken was really tender and mouth watery, so Angelic can't get much of it."The food is really good William. Thank you!"William asked Angelic to wait for a moment for he was going to change hi
William and Angelic looked for Mr. Arthur Soleman in the hospital but they found nothing. One from the sanitary staff told them that Mr. Soleman was having his lunch in his house. They went out from the hospital and search for the old man's house. There was a tiny 'nipa' hut fifty steps outside the hospital and they thought that it was the house of Mr. Soleman. They knocked on the wooden door and an a wrinkled man opened it for them."Who are you looking for?" asked the old man."We are looking for Me. Soleman. Do you know him sir?" William answered. The old man asked them to get in, the house was untidy and crowded. There were disposable cups scattered on the floor and dusty rugs on the table. They sit on a wooden chair slowly since it looks old and weak already. The old man begun asking questions."Why are you looking for Arthur Soleman?" he asked."We need his help. There is an important record of a patient, and we need
Angelic and William found no record from the dirty storage room, so they decided to return the key back to Mr. Soleman's house. They were about to leave when the old man called them. "Wait," he said. "Is this the record you are looking for?" William and Angelic wondered why he had kept the record of Marie Anderson. "How did you know that, that was the record we've been looking for?" asked William. The old man invited them inside his house again to discuss things he knew about the record. "I was cleaning room 106 that time when Marie Anderson died. It was the fifth day of September, they were about to leave the hospital since Marie was already fine. However, they were not allowed to go home unless they settle their account. Her father went out to find some money and when he returned after paying the remaining balance he barrowed from his friend, there was a knife stabbed on his daughter's neck. Marie has the ch
