Chapter 1

Grace’s POV

"What took him so long?"

I glanced at the clock on the wall, which was now nine o'clock in the evening. An hour had passed, and there was no news of Jhon's return. I had asked him to come home on time specifically for today because today was our wedding anniversary. I didn't want us to miss it, even though I knew he would never care about our anniversary.

Not long after, I heard the roar of a car engine outside. Without thinking, I immediately got up from my seat to welcome his return. However, my steps stopped when I reached the house's terrace. My gaze was drawn to a car in the yard where Jhon was with a woman.

"Who is that woman?" My eyes narrowed slightly, and I instantly knew who the woman with Jhon was. I felt anger and tightness when I saw them kissing.

It wasn't my first time seeing my husband making out with another woman. But it still hurt my heart to see him. He had broken my heart, and when I tried to put it back together, he would break it again and again. I lowered my head slightly to avoid seeing the scene again.

When I raised my head again and stared at the car, it was at the same time that the woman was looking at me with a mocking smile that she deliberately gave me. It made my mood even worse, and I hated her with a passion.

I stayed on the terrace until what they were doing was over. This was our best day, but he had ruined it. He had indeed cheated on me many times with different women and right in front of my eyes. I was so tired of this pain that I didn't even have feelings anymore. I felt that I had become numb to all of this.

I wrung my hands and thought that I knew what I wanted now. That is freedom. I think I've had enough of this and should stop here.

Jhon and the woman walked together towards me. A tall, slender woman with golden blonde hair, I knew she was a wonderful woman, and that woman was Lily, my half-sister.

Right now, they are standing in front of me. Jhon seems to be hugging Lily's waist possessively, making me annoyed to see him. However, I had to take it all in stride. It's not the first time I've found out that he's cheating on me.

"Hello, Grace." Lily greeted me.

I ignored Lily's greeting and stared at Jhon with a cold look. I was sure my decision was the right one.

"I want us to end this marriage, Jhon."

John frowned at the sound of my voice. However, a second later, he laughed and resumed his steps into the house. I followed him.

"But I don't want it to end, Grace," Jhon told me.

He said it so lightly. His only desire was to make me suffer in this marriage, and it certainly made him happy. Yes, it seemed like he was pleased to make me suffer with this marriage.

Jhon turned his body right in front of me. His laughter turned into a sardonic smile as his eyes looked at me. "I just spent the night with Lily."

Of course, I could see it without him telling me. He even forgot about our wedding anniversary. Lily was clinging increasingly to Jhon's body, which made me have to hold back my annoyance. My hands squeezed each other at my sides.

"Tell me, Jhon. What exactly have I done to make you hate me so much?"

Jhon didn't reply to my question, all he did was stare at me with a sharp, cold look. I could see the anger in his eyes when he looked at me. One thing I didn't understand was why Jhon would be like this. He seemed to hate me so much.

I remember once when we were kids, he was very fond of me. He always defended and protected me from anything. But, now I don't know why he turned to hate me so much. I often wonder what I did wrong to make him hate me so much. But, she was always silent and wouldn't say anything, as if asking me to find out for myself.

"Jhon, tell me... what have I done wrong to you that you can hate me so much like this."

"You should think and find out what you've done wrong, Grace. Not just whining like a stupid child." Lily's words really upset me. I didn't want to talk to her at all. My only business was with Jhon.

"Will you shut up? I'm not talking to you." I looked sharply at Lily, who was also looking at me annoyed.

"She's right, Grace. You should find out for yourself what you've done wrong." Jhon pulled Lily by the waist and held her close.

"Did you hear that, Grace?!" Lily got bolder and bolder at me, sardonically smiling at me.

I shook my head slowly, looking disgusted at the two people before me.

Jhon smiled sarcastically at me as well, then he spoke to Lily. "Just ignore this insignificant woman, Baby. She's an idiot."

Then Jhon led Lily away from me towards the room. I could still hear the sound of their laughter as they slowly moved away from where I was standing. I just silently closed my eyes, feeling devastated.

I let out a rough breath. I couldn't just stand by and do nothing after what they did to me. But, I realized that Jhon would never want to end the marriage or treat me well.

I had lived in that disgusting mud pit for so long, and it was time to change my destiny and find my own happiness. Yes! I had to do something about myself.

So, I decided to take control of my life. I went into my room and changed into a sexy red skirt that looked very daring as if to show that I was ready to be strong and leave my sad past behind.

I would become the new Grace, and there would be no more weak and pathetic Grace.

In the end, here I was, in one of the nightclubs downtown, I, in my sexy red dress, ignored the hungry eyes of the people around me.

"Give me 'Don't Want to Sleep Tonight,'" I said, referring to the drink I ordered from the bartender. The man smiled and nodded his head.

I turned my body and looked around the room filled with people

moving to the upbeat music.

This was me, the new Grace, ready to live my life.
