-Corrine-

I didn’t expect to be back in my hometown this soon.

This place felt both familiar and foreign in my eyes now. The air I breathed felt different and the ground I stood on felt rough under my shoes.

I half-slammed the car door after I got out—Trevor had borrowed one of Andrew’s cars—and while I was waiting for Trevor to come out, I took off my sunglasses and stared at the Alpha house in front of me.

The last time I was here I had a terrible experience. There was still a faint trauma settled at the bottom of my heart, but aside from that, I was fine.

But there was one thing my heart had not prepared for until now; if I ever met my mom again, what was I supposed to do?

“Come on.” I didn’t know when, but suddenly Trevor was already standing beside me. “Dad is waiting inside.”

I shot a glance at him, feeling restless at the thought of meeting Dad.

Looked like Trevor knew what I had been thinking, because he said, “Mom’s not here. She’s—“ He paused for a moment, “—she still doesn’

-Corrine-“Fuck!” I cursed, followed by the sound of my body smashing into the mattress. My ears rang, and a sharp pain stung my arm and shoulder.I wanted to punch the mattress and yell in anger. Why did Andrew ask Leana to train me to fight instead of doing it himself?!I had ignored Andrew for the past three days after his ridiculous decision to assign Leana as my trainer. I even refused to be in the same room as him. Call me childish, but shouldn’t he have known Leana and I hated each other? The fact that Leana liked Trevor didn’t change anything—at least not for me.Ever since she found out Trevor and I were siblings, she had stopped giving me those killer looks. Even her words were not as annoying as they used to be. But still, I couldn’t get over it yet.Leana reached out her hand to help me to my feet. “So, is it true?” she said after I stood and brushed the dust off my sweaty arm. “When you beat me, was that only a coincidence?” I returned her mockery with a grumble, but I c

-Corrine-I was drinking for the second time when I heard Leana’s explanation. I choked so hard that water spurted out of my lips. Leana jerked back to avoid being splashed with the water mixed with saliva.“Where did you get that information?” I asked after finishing coughing. At first, Leana seemed hesitant. She didn’t answer my question right away and instead took a gulp of water from her bottle. I bet she was deliberately stalling for time, perhaps hoping I’d change my mind and stop pressing her for information. But when she finished drinking, I was still waiting patiently. She let out a sigh as she closed her bottle.“Trevor and I traced the Ashbridge family’s history and found a possible location where Andrew’s great-grandfather disappeared during a specific period of a few years.” She cleared her throat, glancing at the door. Her unease made me even more certain that this was a major secret that wasn’t supposed to be known by anyone.I suddenly remembered reading about the Ashb

-Corrine-My anger melted right away under Andrew’s touch.I could no longer think clearly; all I could feel was his hands and lips exploring my body.Andrew kissed my shoulder as his hand moved between my thighs. He gently pushed my legs apart, making me sit with them spread. My grip on the towel loosened, and it slipped down to just below my breast.Andrew didn’t waste the opportunity. He pulled the towel off so forcefully it almost tore, then tossed it far into the corner of the room.“Is this what you were hoping for, Corrine, when you wanted to train with me?” he asked, his voice laced with seduction. He pulled back just enough to look at me while his hand was exploring below.I turned my face away. My eyelids fluttered halfway closed as a soft moan escaped me.“Look at me, baby,” he commanded. “And answer my question.”I didn’t follow his command, so he gently grabbed my chin and turned my face back toward him. “Is this what you want?”“N—no,” I stammered, my voice and breath tr

-Trevor-The forest was a playground for werewolves like me. I had explored every inch of the forest in and outside of Wesgrove. But I had never visited a forest like this. This forest seemed to have a life of its own. Instead of exploring a land full of trees, it felt like I’d entered another world, one filled with invisible creatures. They were watching me from the darkness, from places I could not see.I could hear my heartbeat buzzing in my ears.“I feel... strange,” whispered Leana, as if worried someone might hear us. “Do you feel the same way?”I didn’t want to admit that I felt the same. That would be like admitting I was afraid of this place.I deliberately walked with a straight posture and slightly raised my chin. “Strange? What do you mean? It’s a forest. Forests are the same everywhere.”Leana shook her head, disagreeing with my words. “No, Trevor. This place is different. It’s—” Leana looked around and then pressed herself closer to me. “It feels like someone is watching

Instead, I heard the caller chuckle softly and say, “See you soon, Corrine.”Then the call ended.I stopped near the rows of bookshelves. Andrew and Eva, who had walked ahead, also stopped and turned toward me.“What’s wrong, baby?” Andrew asked as he approached me. He gently cupped my chin, lifting my face so we could look at each other. My phone was still in my hand, and now my hand was trembling, either from anger or fear—I wasn’t sure which Noticing this, Andrew quickly took the phone from my hand and slid it into the pocket of his jacket.“Someone called,” I whispered. “They said they’re holding Trevor and Leana hostage, and—” I swallowed hard to moisten my suddenly dry throat. “—and they want us to go to a certain place.”Andrew’s jaw tightened as he listened to my words. “Gary,” he muttered. That’s when it dawned on me—the caller’s voice had indeed sounded like Gary’s. -Trevor-I couldn’t let that bastard take Leana away from me just like that.I struggled, trying to break free from these restraints. Whatever they did to me, it prevented me from shifting. Fuck.It seemed like Leana was experiencing the same thing because all she could do was scratch and kick without shifting into her lycan form. They knew something—some weakness of werewolves—that I didn’t.That man—I was sure he was Gary, the college friend Corrine had mentioned—kept dragging Leana into the darkness until I could no longer see her, only hear her screams.“Fuck, fuck, fuck.” I kept cursing as I struggled harder. The more I fought, the tighter the bindings became around my body. I heard footsteps approaching and saw a group of rogues surrounding me. They bared their fangs and growled.“You think I’m scared?” I spat. “You’re all cowards. Ganging up on someone who’s tied up.” But rogues are rogues. They didn’t care about my taunts. One by one, they leaped at me.I was doomed.*-Corri

She gasped, then grinned as well. “Awesome,” she whispered.I thought she would shift and join the fight with the others, but instead, she clenched her fists and gestured for me to move aside with her. “Let’s save Trevor.”I agreed with her idea, but it still raised a question. “You’re not fighting?”Leana’s eyes trembled slightly, doubt clouding her gaze. “I... -Andrew-In my entire life, I had never passed out. Even when I experienced my first shift, I could endure that excruciating pain—burning through my entire body and blurring my vision. But this time, after Gary did something to my body, I lost consciousness. My vision went dark, and I lost all sense of time, place, and everything happening around me—until I faintly heard Corrine’s voice. She was arguing with someone.“How can you not know what happened to them??” Corrine’s voice rose, but she kept her volume controlled, her words coming out as sharp, hissing whispers.Gradually, I could make out my surroundings. A familiar place. I was in my room.At the foot of my bed, I saw Corrine and Bria facing each other—the source of the small commotion that woke me.“I’m not a fucking sorcerer, little girl. -Corrine-Trevor had told me everything about his conversation with Eva at Mythic Manor a couple of nights ago. I understood why he made that decision. Eva would be the one most hurt if they stayed together and then, one day, Trevor met his mate.Even though I hated seeing Eva sad, this was the best thing for her.“So, do you plan on looking for your mate?” I asked as we drove to Moon Dust for a dinner invitation from our parents. It was a shame Andrew couldn’t join us—he had some family business to take care of.“Not for now.” Trevor shrugged. “I’m enjoying my time alone.” Then he glanced at me. “And I want to spend more time with you, you know. After everything that happened, we barely hang out anymore.”“Yeah.” I nodded in agreement. “You also promised to train me so I could beat Leana.”“Hey, I never promised that,” he argued, “beating Leana, I mean.”“You, too?”“What?”“Because Andrew said the same thing when I asked him to train me to defeat Leana.”“She’s an incredible fighter

-Trevor-I thought I would be able to breathe for a moment and ignore this whole love triangle problem. But these two girls gave me no choice but to keep thinking about it.Honestly, I wasn’t really interested when Corrine invited the four of us to spend the night out somewhere. But since I was a good big brother and wanted to see my sister happy, I agreed.I deliberately took the wheel to avoid Eva and Leana, but the Moon Goddess knew I couldn’t avoid them forever. As soon as we got out of the car and walked toward the race area, Eva and Leana immediately trapped me between them. Corrine often said I was dense, so I tried to break the awkwardness with a joke—but not a single one of them laughed. It seemed I had made the wrong move.“Look at them, flirting and all,” Leana grumbled as she watched Corrine and Andrew walking ahead of us. “Life must be so great when you’ve already found your mate.”“I heard you used to like Andrew?” The question slipped out of my mouth before I even had t

-Corrine-This was also an issue I had been thinking about since yesterday. With the attack and kidnapping incident, the battle to determine the next Alpha had been postponed. I had already expected that Dad would bring this up sooner or later.I hadn’t discussed this with Andrew yet, but I had already made up my mind.“I’m not going through with it,” I said. With both hands tucked into my pants pockets, I looked at Dad, Mom, and Trevor. “Let the pack know that I’m stepping down, and they can fight among themselves to determine the next Alpha.”Andrew placed a hand on my shoulder, making me turn to him. “Are you sure?” His voice was gentle, without any concern or disapproval. He truly just wanted to know if I was certain about my decision.I smiled at him and nodded. “Yes.” Then, I turned back to my family. “After everything that’s happened, I just want to live a peaceful life. At least until I graduate from college—” I briefly glanced at the campus building. “—and if you’ll have me,

-Corrine-When I said that almost all of my problems were solved, this was the one that remained unresolved. I didn’t know why my mother suddenly wanted to meet me and Andrew after everything she had said and done to us, but I hoped this was a good sign. For everyone’s safety and comfort, we didn’t meet at Moon Dust or Andrew’s mansion, but instead in Golden Valley.Andrew and I arrived first and headed straight to Houghton Commons. We chose a quiet spot outside, near a large shady tree. The weather was quite windy today, so most people preferred to sit indoors.I pulled my jacket tighter around me and waited, occasionally glancing toward the entrance.“You seem nervous,” Andrew said. I turned to him and frowned, trying to see his eyes behind the sunglasses he was wearing.“Are you not?”“Why should I be? She’s your mother, not mine.”“Right. But she’s going to talk to us, not just me. You still remember how much she hated you—so much that she even worked with Jerome to—”The distant

-Corrine-The next morning, when I opened the window and looked at the clear blue sky, I still couldn’t believe that it was all over. All of my problems were solved—well, most of them—but the danger had passed, and I could finally live in peace.I stretched out my hands and inhaled the fresh scent of the trees, closing my eyes and letting my body soak in the warm sunlight.I smiled, and my smile turned into a wide grin when I felt Andrew behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist and kissing the crook of my neck.“Morning,” he whispered in my ear before giving it a soft bite.I rested my head against him. “Morning.” My voice was hoarse. I closed my eyes and took in the scent of his shampoo lingering in his messy hair. “Did you finish your business yesterday?”Last night, after dropping me off at the mansion, Andrew had left to return to the forest. He wanted to make sure everything was truly settled, including mobilizing the lycans to search for Gary’s body. Andrew wanted to see wit

There was nothing I could do except stay still and let him try to save me.Relief washed over me like cold water, bringing down my adrenaline as Andrew successfully pulled me to safety. He immediately hugged me, repeatedly calling my name.“I’m sorry, Corrine. I’m sorry, baby, I’m late.” His face was buried in my hair, and his lips pressed kisses against my ear and cheek. With trembling hands, I cupped his face and looked into his eyes. “You’re not late.” I smiled weakly. “You saved me.”We stared at each other in silence for a few moments before both of us burst into laughter. Laughter that born from the lingering fear of facing death and the joy of having survived it.“I
