CHAPTER FIFTY: More Problems to Face

I sit tensely on the couch, sandwiched between Carter and Mr. Montgomery in the living area.

“I’m so sorry, Mr. Montgomery,” I say, ashamed. “I couldn’t stop him from coming inside.”

Mr. Montgomery gives me a nod of understanding, his expression kind but strained.
