Elaine

The day was finally coming to an end, but it felt like it would never end. The office was suffocatingly quiet. For the first time since I got hired at Roma, I was looking forward to getting home. My body yearned for rest, and my mind craved escape, even for a short while.

I made my way to the side of the road. Each step felt like a mile. The weight of the day pressed down on me, and I wished I could just teleport to my bed. I let out a deep sigh, trying to push through the exhaustion. If there were a pill I could buy to ease this fatigue, I would gladly take a few just to escape this feeling.

Suddenly, a voice cut through the stillness of the night.

“Elaine! Can we talk?”

I didn’t need to look to know who it was. Tristan’s voice was unmistakable, and it irritated me beyond measure. I kept walking, determined to ignore him, but his footsteps grew louder and closer. Before I could react, he was beside me, gently grabbing my arm.
