86: SEND YOUR SCOUTS

Alpha Jo found me in my chambers as I was pacing back and forth trying to clear my mind. His presence was disturbing because I had wanted to be left alone, but I knew we had an unresolved tension between us. He approached cautiously, knowing our last conversation had left me shaken.

“Ava,” he called softly, his voice laden with concern. “We need to talk.”

I turned to face him, my expression guarded. “What is it, Jo? Hope you have not come to spoil my mood?” I asked him.

He took a deep breath, his eyes reflecting the weight of his words. “It’s about Maria. I am not sure if she is alive, and I believe she has been taken. We need to find her.”

I felt a surge of anger and disbelief. “Why would I want to look for someone who despises me? Why would I want to look for someone who has caused me so much pain? For all I know, she might have planned with the bandits and then lead me into an ambush looking for her. She’s caused enough trouble already.”
