The meeting hall buzzed with anticipation as the Alphas settled into their seats. Maria stood confidently at the center, but I could see the flash of uncertainty in her eyes. This was my moment to expose the truth.

I stood up, my voice cutting through the murmurs. "Before we proceed, there are some truths that need to be revealed about Maria."

Maria's confident face faltered slightly. "What are you talking about, Ava?"

I stepped forward, locking eyes with her. "Maria has been found with the bandits on several occasions. She did not arrest the beast of the bandits but instead brought him to fight me. She fought on the side of the bandits, kidnapped Zaza, and came to my palace to kill General Masa."

Gasps and whispers filled the room as the Alphas turned their attention to Maria, their expressions a mix of shock and disbelief.

Maria's face reddened with anger. "Those are baseless accusations, Ava! There is no proof I was ever with the bandits."

I raised an eyebrow. "No proof? How do you

In the evening, there was a knock at the door. My father opened it, and a few of the Alphas stepped in, their faces solemn but determined.“Ava,” one of them began, “we wanted to come and see you personally. Your words today resonated with us. We want you to know that we stand with you. No matter what happens, we’ll work with you to defeat the bandits and bring peace to our lands.”I felt a surge of gratitude. “Thank you,” I said, my voice strong. “Your support means everything. Together, we can achieve what seems impossible.”They nodded, offering words of encouragement and loyalty before leaving. The moment they were gone, another figure stepped into the doorway. It was Alpha Jo, his expression a mix of determination and something softer, maybe hope, perhaps.“Ava,” he said quietly, stepping inside. “Can we talk?”I nodded, leading him to a quieter corner of the room. “What is it, Jo?”He took a deep breath, looking into my eyes. “Today, watching you, I was reminded of the strength

Lita approached me with a sense of urgency. Her eyes were filled with concern, and I knew she had important news."Ava," she began, her voice low and cautious. "I managed to overhear some of Maria's conversations. It looks like she's up to something, though I couldn't get all the specifics. But I did hear the names of two towns mentioned repeatedly."My heart skipped a beat as I listened. "Which towns?" I asked, my voice tense."Rivertown and Darkend," she replied. "I couldn't catch much more, but whatever she's planning, it involves those places."I nodded, taking in the information. "Thank you, Lita. You've done well. We need to act on this immediately."I gathered Karim, Kim, Kint, and a few of our key advisors to discuss Lita's report. The air was thick with tension as we huddled around a map of the region."Lita's information suggests that Maria is targeting Rivertown and Darknd," I began. "We don't know her exact plans, but we can't afford to take any chances. We need to warn th

As I was about to leave Alpha Jo’s chambers, Maria walked in, her presence immediately altering the atmosphere. Her eyes darted between Alpha Jo and me, a calculating gleam in them."Ava," Maria said, her voice smooth but with an edge, "I didn't expect to see you here. What brings you to Alpha Jo’s chambers at this hour?""I came to ensure Nashville's defenses are ready," I replied, not willing to divulge too much.Maria's eyebrows arched in feigned surprise. "Oh, really? And what makes you think they aren’t?"I narrowed my eyes at her, feeling a surge of suspicion. "We've received intelligence that the bandits might attack soon. I needed to make sure Alpha Jo and his men were prepared.""Interesting," she said, a sly smile tugging at her lips. "And what exactly is your plan, Ava? You seem to be taking quite a lot of initiative lately."I glanced at Alpha Jo, who looked increasingly uncomfortable. "My plan is to defend Nashville and protect our people, Maria. Isn’t that what we all wa

When my men gathered for the meeting, I could see the determination in their eyes, their readiness to follow through with whatever plan I had devised. Taking a deep breath, I began to address them, my voice firm and resolute. They looked surprised because they thought I had given them the last instructions and were supposed to be on their way. But I had a change of plans as I was not going to trust Maria fully in going to a battle I felt she had planned.“Thank you all for coming,” I started, looking around at the familiar faces of my trusted allies. “After careful consideration, I’ve decided on our next course of action. We will be splitting into two smaller units to cover more ground and respond quickly to any threats.”Karim was shocked, but he wanted to know more, his expression serious but confident. “Ava, what’s the new plan?”I met his gaze, knowing how much I relied on his support. “Karim, I’m assigning you and a few of our best men to head to the Riverlands. We must secure th

The morning sun had barely risen when Chifo rushed into my tent, his face etched with urgency. "Ava, there's been a coordinated attack on Uptown by the bandits. The soldiers there can't drive them back. It looked like Uptown had been taken over by bandits,"His words hit me like a cold wave, but I forced myself to stay composed. "What are you suggesting, Chifo?"He took a deep breath. "I think we should try and help them. We can't just stand by while they suffer."I shook my head firmly. "No, Chifo. We can only secure one part of the town until the other two teams arrive. If we spread ourselves too thin, we’ll be vulnerable to an attack here as well. We have to hold our ground."Chifo’s face tightened with frustration, but he nodded. "I understand. But what about any news from the other teams? Have we heard anything?"I sighed, the weight of the situation pressing down on me. "No, nothing yet. We can’t make any moves until we know where everyone stands. Our priority is to hold this po

  • I AM ALPHA AND OMEGA   83:   FINDING LOSSES

We started the tiring task of questioning the bandits we had captured. Each one was brought forward, their faces a mix of defiance and fear. We needed answers, especially about Alpha Jo's whereabouts. One by one, we questioned them. Some were hardened criminals, their eyes cold and unyielding. But many were just desperate men, recruited to swell the bandits' numbers. They told us where their camps were, and their merciless leaders, but none could tell us anything about Alpha Jo. Each futile answer only deepened our frustration. As the interrogations dragged on, I decided to search the chambers one last time, hoping against hope to find some clue. The grand hall was eerily quiet, the remnants of opulence now cloaked in shadows and despair. I moved through the rooms, my footsteps echoing against the cold stone floors. Then, in one of the side chambers, I found her. Lita. Her body lay crumpled on the floor, her lifeless eyes staring into the void. My heart sank, and a wave of grief and g

As we settled back into camp, weary from the day’s mission, Karim approached me, his expression a mix of relief and concern. He had just returned from the Riverlands, and I was eager to hear his report.“Karim,” I said, stepping forward. “What did you find in the Riverlands?”Karim took a deep breath before speaking. “It was a small group of bandits,” he reported. “They seemed more like scouts than a full raiding party. We managed to drive them off without too much trouble.”I nodded, absorbing this information. “Did they give you any indication of a larger force nearby?”He shook his head. “No, they were disorganized and didn’t seem to have a clear objective. It’s possible they were just testing the waters, so to speak.”“That’s a relief,” I said, though my mind was still racing. “But we can’t let our guard down. If they were scouts, it means the main force could be planning something bigger.”Karim nodded in agreement. “I’ve left a few men behind to keep an eye on the area, just in

In the quiet confines of our family home, the weight of the past battles and looming threats hung heavy in the air. My mother, with her gentle demeanor and wise eyes, sat across from me at the worn kitchen table. She reached out, taking my hand in hers, and looked at me with a mixture of concern and love.“Ava,” she began softly, “I know the burdens you carry are immense. You’ve faced so much—loss, betrayal, battles—and you’ve emerged stronger every time. But there’s something I need to talk to you about.”I squeezed her hand, finding comfort in her touch. “What is it, Mother?”“It’s Alpha Jo,” she said, her voice tinged with a plea. “I see the way he looks at you, the regret in his eyes. And I see the pain you still hold onto because of what happened between you two.”I looked away, my gaze falling on the familiar surroundings of our home, the place where I had always found solace. “Mother, it’s not that simple. I turned to Maria, who still stood bound and defiant, though her eyes now held a glimmer of fear. "Maria," I said, my voice firm but not unkind. You will not be allowed to sow discord among our people ever again."Maria’s shoulders sagged in defeat, the last vestiges of her defiance crumbling as she realized the finality of her situation. She had lost everything, her power, her influence, her future. As Maria was led away, Alpha Jo stepped beside me. "You've united us in a way none of us could have imagined," he said quietly. When the final letter was written, sealed, and set aside, I leaned back in my chair, feeling the weight of the night pressing down on me. The grand hall of the palace was filled with an air of anticipation. I stood at the head of the room, my face hidden behind a mask crafted to conceal the remnants of the beast that had once overtaken me. Though I had regained control, the scars, both physical and emotional, remained. Before me stood the council, the elders, and the leaders from the Hinderlands, Riverlands, and Borderlands. Each of them had been summoned here to witness a new chapter in our shared history, to hear the decisions that would shape the future of our lands. There was a noticeable tension in the air, the weight of the moment pressing down on everyone present. The flickering torchlight cast long shadows across the room, adding to the somber atmosphere. As I looked out at the gathered assembly, I felt a mix of emotions, pride, determination, and a deep sense of responsibility. In the depths of the forest, I crouched low, my senses heightened and my body still buzzing with the raw energy that had surged through me during the battle. The moonlight filtered through the dense canopy, as I tried to regain control over the beast within me. My breathing was heavy, and my mind was a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions.Karim and Shocy approached cautiously, their footsteps barely making a sound on the forest floor. They had been searching for me, and though I knew they meant well, the beast inside me still surged with a fierce, untamed power. When they finally found me, their eyes filled with concern and relief."Thank the gods we found you," Karim said, his voice steady but laced with worry. He stopped a few paces away, respecting the distance I needed. "You need to come back with us. You can't stay out here."I turned to face them, my eyes glowing with a fierce intensity that made even the most seasoned warriors uneasy. The beast inside me was still close to the s

The dim light of the cell flickered as I sat in the corner, my body battered and weak from the days of torment. Every breath was a struggle, each movement a reminder of the pain that coursed through me. But as I closed my eyes, I forced myself to push beyond the physical agony, to reach deeper into the well of power that lay dormant within me.My mind drifted to Zaza's words, the fierce determination in her voice as she urged me to find my strength, to believe in my abilities. Her faith in me had never wavered, even as Maria sought to break us both. And now, as the cold stone walls of the cell pressed in around me, I knew that I had to tap into that strength, to harness every ounce of power I possessed. With a slow, deliberate breath, I began to focus inward, drawing my consciousness away from the pain and fear that threatened to consume me. I reached for the gifts that had been passed down through my bloodline, the abilities that had always been there, waiting for me to master them.

My body was weak, my spirit battered, but as the heavy iron door creaked open and Zaza stepped inside, a spark of hope flickered within me.She moved quietly, her eyes scanning the room before settling on me.
