“What are you thinking about?” Caspian’s voice pulled Elora out of her reverie.
Elora pulled the cigarette out of her mouth and looked up when Caspian appeared on the balcony. He was only wearing a dark blue bathrobe, just like the current night sky. Elora sat on the balcony smoking a cigarette and enjoying the nighttime parade of lights in Auckland as Caspian showered. Without Elora knowing, she was lost in the memories of her past.
There were so many things she wasted all this time. It was possible that if she had not been so skeptical of the people at the orphanage, Elora could have lived a different life. It wasn’t that Elora regretted her job and her current state. However, Elora’s soul would have been better if she realized the love that people gave her.
“That book,” said Elora. Elora was reluctant to share her guilt towards Maribeth with Caspian, but Elora wasn’t completely lying when she said she was thinki
Elora couldn’t sleep all night. She thought about Caspian’s whereabouts, who had left without his cell phone. Elora hated herself for asking Caspian such a stupid thing. Elora trembled with fear at the thought of Caspian no longer wanting to be with her and leaving Elora ... leaving her alone as before. Loneliness became a scary thing for Elora now. After sinking into despair, Elora roamed the manor suite, which was twenty times as big as her apartment while drinking half a bottle of whiskey she had taken from the minibar. Elora was unconscious after that, and it allowed her to sleep without dreaming bad things. Elora had only fallen asleep when someone shook her body gently.“El, get ready. We’ll be leaving soon.” Caspian’s voice whispered softly in Elora’s ear. Elora groaned and rolled over, realizing too late that she had fallen asleep on the sofa. Elora almost fell to the carpeted floor, but Caspian deftly caught her.
“Your house?” repeated Caspian. He sounded incredulous. “Are you sure?”Elora was very sure. The memory hit her like a storm that suddenly came after the silence. Rumbling and shattering Elora’s mind. It was almost terrible because Elora was remembering part of her past just by coming here and seeing this house. Elora stepped hesitantly, climbing the stairs one by one until she came to a large terrace.“This is my house… I live with my father and my mother, and my brothers.” Elora said it was almost beyond her consciousness. “None of the pack members’ lives with us, because—” Elora put her hand on the closed door. “We are too dangerous.”Almost without a push, the door opened. There was only darkness in it that could be seen through the gap in the door. “People came and went, reporting the condition of the pack members to my father. But they never stayed….” El
Elora sat straight up on Caspian’s lap.“What did you say?” she hissed.Caspian let out a short laugh and then smiled. A sweet smile that melted Elora’s heart in an instant. Caspian didn’t answer, his hands busy reaching into the pockets of his jeans. Elora shifted slightly, so Caspian could do it more easily.Caspian held out his clasped hand, then lifted it and opened his palm right in front of Elora. In his hand was a diamond ring.“I bought it last night.”Elora flinched. “You didn’t buy it after getting drunk at the bar, did you?”“I’m not you.” Caspian joked.“Why me?” Elora folded her arms in front of her chest with a snort.“Drink half a bottle of whiskey and put on your lover’s clothes.”“I told you it wasn’t—”Elora’s words stopped when Caspian covered Elora’s li
A large room greeted them at the bottom of the stairs. Caspian aimed his flashlight in all directions, then at the ceiling. The light couldn’t tell how high the room was. This place was more like an assembly hall than a secret place to lock someone up. They walked to the nearest wall and found intricate scribbles on its surface.Apart from the writings that Elora didn’t understand the meaning of, there were also deep claw marks, as well as large fragments of walls on the floor. Something devastating has happened here.“Do you understand what all these means?” asked Caspian. They looked up and found the scribbles written half the height of the wall.“No.” Elora shook her head. “But everything looks familiar.”They walked to the center of the room and stopped when they found a podium. The podium was just an adult chest-high table, square and as wide as an open book. On instinct, Elora placed her hands on the p
“They will do it today.” Jason, who was crouching next to Elora in the basement's corner, whispered in Elora’s ear as if he was afraid that someone would hear his words. Although there was no one here but the two of them.“Do what?” Elora blinked innocently. She didn’t understand the meaning of her brother’s words.Jason’s black hair swayed lightly as he exhaled loudly. “Repel the creature! The creature that makes your body explode and makes a member of the pack should stay away from our family!” Jason shrieked, still in a whisper. “After the creature is gone, you can sleep again in your room! Mom has decorated your room with pink and stuffed bunnies!”Elora’s eyes widened at Jason’s words. The curve of a smile etched on her tiny lips. Elora glanced at the battered metal bed a few meters away from where she was. Her mother had tried to decorate this place as beautiful as possible
Elora trembled as she stood at the bottom of the stairs. This area had been a forbidden area for her for a long time. Arthur and Sophia always reminded Elora not to go up there. Yet Elora wanted to know what was there. She had seen a flash of light brighter than the crystal chandeliers when Jacinda came in and Elora was near the stairs with Jason.“Come on, El. Come on up,” Sophia ordered softly. “We right behind you.”Elora turned to Arthur and Sophia, then she nodded. One. Two. Three. Elora counted every step she touched with her feet. There were fifty steps in total, quite a number, and exhausting for her little feet. Arriving up there, on the last step, the wall in front of Elora opened by itself. Then she found herself in a small room, again without windows. Elora sighed in disappointment. Did her parents intend to move her here? It’s even worse than the room down there. Down below, Elora could run around—The door across
“Why wasn’t the other book taken too?”“There are many black books in the library, but there are only two journals, and one is at my friend’s place, which is very far from here. If you bring them both, it will take a very long time to get you from down there.”“But I don’t want to go in there again, Daddy.” Elora almost winced as she said that. Her eyes glanced sadly at the stairs that led to the dark place below.Arthur crouched down in front of Elora again. “Hey, El.” Arthur gently caressed Elora’s cheek, which was already wet with tears. “I hope nothing happens, and we can get out of here soon. But, I beg you to obey me if something really happens. I don’t want to lose you.”“I don’t want to lose you either, or Mommy, or Jacinda, or Jason.”Elora embraced Arthur with her small hands and could only hug Arthur’s neck. Arthur returned t
Elora woke up and felt a chill on one cheek. Her hands still tightly gripped the black book Arthur had given her. Elora’s face was wet and sticky with tears and snot. Elora blinked slowly. It took her a while to know where she was now. Elora was in the main room of her house. She could see the double doors opening a few feet away from her.“Daddy?” call Elora. Her voice was hoarse. Elora stood up. It was almost night. Elora smelled burnt. There were black marks in several places on the floor, with piles of ashes flying slowly in the wind from outside. But what caught Elora’s attention now was the scene close to where she lay.Arthur. Lying on the marble floor. A blackish-red liquid welled up around him.“Daddy?” Elora walked over to Arthur, half dragging her aching leg. “Daddy,” she called again. No answer. Elora shook Arthur’s body. Heavy and cold. Elora raised her hand and found her palm covered in blood.
Ten years later….Caspian looked at himself in the long mirror in his room. Today is a very important day in his life. The day he had been waiting for for the last ten years.Caspian deliberately opened the bedroom door, because he was waiting for someone to arrive. As Caspian was adjusting the position of the suit attached to his body, the bedroom door snapped open and someone ran in, screaming.“Uncle!!”“I told you, call him Alpha!”A loud bang was heard, and the sound of a child screaming in pain followed. Caspian frowned, sharing the pain in the boy’s head. “It’s okay, Kate. He’s my nephew, anyway.”“If I let him, he’ll go easy on you, Cas!”“Mommy sucks!” Cooper shouted, then he ran away, leaving Caspian and Kate.Caspian smiled widely and hugged Kate. Kate hugged him back. She gave Caspian a few pats on the back before they let go.
“Elora!”Caspian shouted for her, but Elora kept running. They thrashed the snow under their feet, breaking through dry branches and braving the skin-biting air. Elora was in werewolf form, and she ran faster than Caspian.Caspian continued to chase after her, but all he could see was Elora’s back getting further and further away. Until they came to a dark and almost frozen riverbank. Elora suddenly stopped, then turned around. “Stop! Stay away from me!” she screamed. Caspian stopped a few yards from Elora. His lungs ached, and the wound throbbed like a second heart.“Elora,” Caspian spoke Elora’s name carefully, as if her name was sacred and contained magic. That one word can describe how longed and desperate Caspian is. He walked over, turning himself into a human again. Instantly, a chill shot through Caspian, worsening his condition and making his wound feel like it was being stabbed by a thousand tiny needles.
“Don’t move,” said Brittany. She hitting Caspian in the chest with her rock-hard fist.“Ouch!” Caspian groaned. “Brit, you know I’m sick, right?”“No. Your wound should be healed by now.”“I’m still recovering.”“Bullshit.”“Have you ever been shot with a silver bullet?”Brittany stopped arguing. She shrugged and glanced at the nightstand beside Caspian’s bed. “I still can’t find her,” Brittany muttered. “It was as if she had disappeared from this world.”“She’s still alive. I can feel it.”“How about you stop looking for her? It’s been a month, Cas.”“Only a month, Brit.”Brittany took a deep breath, then when she looked back at Caspian, a smile tugged at her pink lips. “I can’t keep mobilizing my members to look for h
“Hëna.”Arapeta’s voice was at the threshold of Elora’s hearing. She felt dead to the world, but she was still awake. Elora could see everything around her, but at the same time, she could not feel her body. Elora seemed to float in another dimension, which looked the same as the world she knew.“No,” someone denied. Zed’s breath was close to Elora’s ear, whispering a doubtful refusal. “Hëna wouldn’t want to meet lowly werewolves like you! She is too sacred to be seen by the ignorant eye!”“Look who’s talking,” said Javier. “You mean the moon goddess doesn’t want to see you?”The sound of bullets cut through the night, and a moan of pain escaped Javier’s lips. “Bastard.” Zed gritted his teeth as he realized his shot had only hit the edge of Javier’s arm.Zed pulled the trigger again, but the gun fell from his hand,
“You can guess the rest,” Zed said. “He confronted me, and since we were both anxious about each other’s secrets, we started arguing. I purposely took him to the edge of the forest, far from the city. I felt that our conversation would not go well, so I prepared for the worst.”“You—you killed Cooper?” Caspian gasped.Elora couldn’t see Caspian right now, but she could imagine how devastated Caspian would be to know one by one the harsh realities that were happening around him.Elora thought Zed would laugh and admit it proudly. However, there was only a cold reaction to Caspian’s question. “Didn’t you hear my explanation? Your best friend sells drugs!! And you’re angry because I killed him?? You should thank me!! I have removed the trouble from your pack!!”“You killed him! You killed Cooper and you’ve been acting like you know nothing?! Have you gone mad?!&rd
“Are you sure?” Cooper asked. He still didn’t believe in Zed’s theory. The pack of The Moon Protectors was long extinct, and there is not enough evidence that they inherited Hëna’s powers. But Zed had done a lot of research, relating events, until he concluded; there was still one werewolf from that pack. And she is a woman.“Damn sure,” Zed replied. They were sitting on the balcony of the Sacred Storm restaurant. It’s a full moon tonight, and because it’s the holiday season, many tourists come here, including single women. Soft prey to satisfy Zed’s passion. Cooper was happy to see Zed in action because he said every woman looked so hilarious when they had fallen for Zed’s seduction. Although Cooper often says that Zed’s behavior is immoral, Zed knows Cooper enjoys it too. Seeing how helpless the women were in front of them.“Then what’s your plan?” Cooper asked again
Caspian didn’t know if the plan he had put together with Javier, Arapeta, Aiden, and Hanupo could go smoothly. Caspian wasn’t even sure what they were talking about together was a rescue plan. After learning that Zed betrayed him, Caspian could no longer expect the members of the Sacred Storm pack to submit to him. Caspian knew some of them had sympathy for Zed.Caspian drove to the abandoned wine cellar in the west. It used to be the territory of the Sacred Storm, but through tough negotiations with the Alphas at that time, they decided that the area would become a neutral area and a barrier between the territory of one pack from another.Caspian left his car on the side of the road. He made sure no one was around before turning himself into a werewolf. The sky was getting darker as Caspian made his way through the woods. The longer Caspian could feel the energy radiate from the other werewolves. There were many werewolves up ahead, and none of them Caspia
Cold. Dark. A faint sweet and bitter aroma.Elora opened her eyes, but she couldn’t see anything. The intoxicating smell of medicine still lingered in her nostrils. After a while, she realized that someone had covered her eyes with a black cloth.“Judging by the way you’re moving, it looks like you’ve come to your senses.” A familiar voice greeted her. That’s Zed. Elora could feel Zed beside her. His breath brushed against Elora’s cheek.“Let me go,” said Elora.Zed chuckled. “Why are you saying such useless things? You think I’ll let you go when you ask me to?”Elora struggled. They tied Elora’s body with ropes to a chair. As Zed ran a finger up Elora’s cheek, Elora rebelled and shivered in disgust. “Get your hands off me,” Elora hissed.“Don’t piss me off, El. Soon we will be husband and wife.”Elora gasped. “What
Caspian drives like a madman after Elora doesn’t answer his calls, and when Caspian calls Javier, that man says he left Elora alone. When Caspian got angry at this, Javier said, “Hey! I didn’t mean to leave her! She insists on being alone!”Caspian parked his car carelessly in the parking area of Elora’s apartment. He rushed to the second floor and knocked on Elora’s apartment door in a hurry. “Elora! Open the door! It’s me!”No answer. Even Caspian didn’t hear any movement in there. Caspian tried to knock again, this time louder. Instead of Elora coming out, it was the residents of the apartment opposite Elora’s apartment who opened the door. An old woman walking with a cane.“She went out with a black-haired man,” she said, half grumbling. “For God’s sake, what happened to her recently? She hadn’t been home in a long time, and last time she made a big fuss. I almo
