The next day, I arrived at the restaurant Jason had booked.

Even before entering the private room, I could already hear the people inside chatting without any reservations.

"If you ask me, Jason, you should've divorced someone as infertile as Barbara a long time ago!"

"That's right! Look at Cara. She's nice and she can have kids. She's already giving you a son so quickly."

Cara even added shyly, "Well, the only reason I can have a baby is because of Jason."

A burst of laughter echoed in the room.

I pushed open the door and strode in. "Oh, you're all quite early."

Everyone's expression changed immediately. Jason's friends, who were talking behind my back, all smiled.

"Oh, you're here, Barbara! Have a seat!"

"You're become even prettier after we haven't seen you in a while! By the way, about that land to the east of the city, I heard your dad's also interested in it… Maybe you can bring us along? You can take the major share, and I suppose we can have a minor share."

"Speaking of which, why don't you introduce us to the investment company overseas you mentioned earlier? With your introduction, it should be easy for us to reach an agreement."

"You're the most capable of us all! Why don't you take a look at my family's new project and make some investment? Don't worry, it'll definitely make a profit…"

"Now that you mention it, we haven't heard anything about my family's projects lately. Can you ask your parents about it?"

"Yes, that's right. We're going to sign the contract soon from my side, too. Why is there only silence all of a sudden? You must be very busy…"

Looking at how they were trying their hardest to please me, it was as if they were completely different people moments ago.

I sat down in the middle. When one of them saw how indifferent I was, he asked, "What happened?"

I sipped the tea from my cup.

"What happened? I'm not happy, so of course I'm not in the mood to worry about business. My husband eloped with someone else and even had a child with her! Just thinking about it is giving me a headache. Once my parents know how much I've suffered, they'll be unhappy too. And when they're unhappy, your businesses will obviously be affected."

As I said that, I turned to look at Cara.

"If only that seductress and the illegitimate child were erased from this world… I'd definitely be in a happier mood."

The moment I said that, all of Jason's so-called good friends exchanged glances before finally looking at Cara, whom they had been so friendly with just now. The way they looked at her was akin to a hunter gazing at his prey, vicious and eager.

For the first time, there was fear on Cara's face.

"You… Why are you all looking at me like that? What do you want?!" she stammered.

"What do we want?" One of them slammed the table and stood up. "We want to render justice in God's name and make Barbara happy!"

Cara shuddered.

Even I didn't expect that they could be so easily convinced by my words. If the men did anything here, however, I would be dragged into the mess too."It's fine, it's fine," I quickly said. "Don't be rash. It's not good to be physical."The men all exchanged another glance, but the aggression undoubtedly remained palpable between them all.Cara hadn't calmed down yet and shrunk next to Jason, clinging to his arm. She burst tearfully, "Jason, you have to side with me! Your baby is in my womb!"Jason's expression shifted, but in the end, he just faked a cough. He turned and looked at all of his friends, slightly vexed. "What do you want to do? We've been friends for so long. That was unreasonable."One of his friends immediately reacted. "Yes, of course. Don't worry, Jason. We're just joking!""That's right!" Everyone tried to downplay the situation. "Don't worry about it, we're just having some fun with her."Only then did Jason calm down and turn to look at me with disdain. "Bar

When Jason heard Cara had been beaten up, he immediately made his way to the hospital. Before reaching the hospital, he didn't forget to question me via phone. "Did you find someone to beat Cara up? Don't you dare cross the line, Barbara! If anything happens to her, I'll show you no mercy!" he roared."Stop making false accusations," I replied, my face frost. He and I reached the hospital almost around the same time. When Jason saw me, he glared at me before entering the ward. Cara's face was all swollen, filled with bruises. She was no longer the pretty girl she had been. Jason was so shocked by what he saw, a hint of disdain that was hard to detect flashed through his eyes."Ah…" Cara cried as she lay on the bed, holding his hand. "You have to help me, Jason! They hit me so hard! It hurts! And they even focused on my stomach… Ah…""What?!" Jason's expression changed. "They've crossed the line! I won't let them get away with this!"I snorted inwardly. After everything that had happened, Jason started to be attentive toward me again. I had moved out from our old residence, but I didn't expect him to still chase after me at my new residence."Honey," he said, demurely giving me a bouquet of roses. "I was passing by the florist. I remembered you when I saw the flowers."I shot him a cold look. "Have you signed the divorce papers? If you haven't, get on it."His expression froze, and then he looked at me in earnest. "Can you give me one more chance, Barb? I promise I won't see Cara anymore. I'll break up with her."He lowered his head, not daring to look at me. No longer was he as confident or smug as before. Jason's confidence came from how I tolerated him again and again. He believed that I wouldn't leave him—not ever. I stared at him, then finally said, "To be honest, you're quite a match with Cara. Both of you are the same type of people—selfish to the core. I feel disgusted just thinking about you two. Do you know, Jason?"

When I met Jason again, he changed his methods of begging for my forgiveness. He would hold a bouquet of roses and hire two people to pull a banner right in front of my residence. No matter how much security tried to get rid of him, he wouldn't leave. On the third day, Jason finally couldn't handle the masochism and fainted on the ground.Security sent him to the hospital. The first thing he did after he woke up was to call the cops, forcing me to make an appearance. When I appeared, I came with the divorce papers. My face was icy and indifferent, with not even so much as a smile. "Sign, and we can separate on good terms."Jason sat on the bed and shook his head, pleading weakly, "No, I won't! Cara and I are over. I won't let her come see me again. There's nothing between us anymore. Barb, can you please forgive me…?"Of course I knew he and Cara broke up. After that day, Jason stayed quiet for a few days. I thought that maybe he had finally cleared his head, but…I didn't expect his parents to find me instead."Barb." Mrs. Graham sat in front of me in the café. After greeting me, she started to counsel me. "You've been together with Jason for so many years, so can't you reconsider? He made a bad decision in the heat of the moment. Can you please bear with him?"When I heard those words, I broke into a cold smile. Had I not indulged him enough? How many times had he thought of me?I shook my head. "It's fine, Mrs. Graham. No need to try and convince me. I don't want to stay with him anymore."When Mrs. Graham saw how direct I was being with her, her face darkened. "Barb, after you leave Jason, it'll be difficult to find a man who's willing to love you like he did. Who'd want to marry a divorced woman? Not to mention, he wouldn't have sought Cara out if you could bear him a child, would he?"I set down my cup on the table with

My disappointment reached its peak the moment Jason returned home from work. He started yelling at me without bothering to ask why I felt the way I did. I bore it all in silence, then turned around to take a deep breath while caressing my slightly enlarged tummy. I couldn't help but apologize to my unborn baby. With everything that was happening, I couldn't keep it. I tried my best to hold my sorrow, but tears still filled my eyes.In a few days, it was going to be Jason's bir
