As I sat there trying to register what dad just told me, a lot of questions started popping into my head. Dad looked pretty upset right now and I didn’t really blame him. If he and the Alpha have been trying to work out why that pack was watching ours, I would be pretty edgy too.
“Why the hell would he be watching us? We haven’t done anything to him, have we? I can’t imagine our Alpha would be that stupid. He’s called the Devil for a reason. And why the hell would he want to kidnap me? The Alpha’s son was right there.” I said in a complete word vomit.
I couldn’t help it. I had all these questions and they just started spilling out and there was nothing I could do to stop them.
My mind was telling me to calm down, but my mouth just kept moving.
“Amberly. I can’t tell you any more than what I’ve already told you. And you can’t tell anyone else.” Dad insisted.
My whole head was reeling. I know that it was horrible of me to say that the Alpha’s son was right there, but that made more sense to me.
Why take me when the Alpha’s kid is a lot more valuable than me.
Unless they thought that I was a weaker prey than Ryan.
That had to be the reason. They must have thought that I was weaker and that’s why they grabbed me.
But it was too perfect. Their attack on me. With the fight and everything.
I was absolutely convinced that the fight that broke out was a diversion because no one was looking at me and Ryan and Evan were both standing in front of me. We were in the perfect positions and that bastard grabbed me without them even noticing at first.
Dad stood up and walked over to me and he leaned down and kissed me on the forehead.
“Try and get some sleep. I know that you’re tired. We’ll talk later. Just for now, you can’t say anything to anyone.” He said. So I nodded my head.
So he left my room and I climbed into bed and I laid down under the covers.
I had a lot of crap going through my head right now, but I was too exhausted to focus too hard on it.
I could hear patrols running past our house at more frequent intervals, but again, I just blocked them out.
I eventually passed out and I managed to sleep through the night with no nightmares or anything. It was a really peaceful sleep actually.
Evan and I still had to go for our morning jog but I wasn’t in the mood to mess around like we usually did.
I was unusually quiet and I could see Evan constantly looking over at me.
There was just too much going through my mind right now and I knew that I couldn’t tell him.
I can tell anyone about it. I knew that it was going to drive me insane, but that’s just the way it was going to be for a while.
We jogged past the packhouse and we saw Alpha Matthew standing outside with Ryan, talking about something pretty important.
I guess it was just more Alpha training, but when they saw me approaching they stopped talking.
I wasn’t even near the house, but werewolf hearing was brilliant when you wanted to listen in on other people’s conversations.
And this was one conversation that they didn’t want me to hear.
“Hey baby.” Ryan said, walking over to me.
“Hi. Is everything alright?” I asked as he leaned in to kiss me.
“Yeah. Just Alpha crap. I want to be in bed.” He said.
“I’ll say to you what I say to Evan. Suck it up.” I said.
“Well, I’m not used to being up this early.” Ryan said.
“I can tell. Are you going to be at school today?” I asked.
“Yeah. Why wouldn’t I be?” He asked, confused.
“Well, whatever you two were talking about looked pretty intense. So I was just wondering.” I said.
“I’ll be there. I’ll pick you up on the corner of your house at the usual time.” He said. So I leaned in and kissed him before Evan and I had to keep jogging off.
When we got home we were surprised to walk inside and see dad sitting at the table with mom and a full table of breakfast. Instead of him standing in the doorway with a stopwatch.
Evan and I looked at each other strangely because we were sure we would have to do push ups because of my detour to talk to Ryan.
But we cautiously sat down and dad didn’t do anything. He just started dishing up his own breakfast, so the rest of us did it as well.
We actually ate a really nice breakfast together that morning and no one was more surprised than me.
After the punishment I had received two nights ago, this was a completely different dad.
We met Ryan at the corner at our usual time and he drove us to school and we got out of the car and started walking inside.
“Evan. There you are.” A high pitched annoying voice sounded through the hallway. It felt like nails on a chalkboard.
“Hi Molly.” Evan said. And she draped herself over Evan and started kissing him and her voice was getting more and more annoying as it went on.
Ryan put his arm around my waist and we started walking towards my locker where Tris was waiting.
“Hey. Is everything alright?” I asked her.
“Yeah. Why?” She asked, snapping out of her daze.
“You look a little down.” I said.
“I’m fine.” She said, walking away.
So I turned to try and look at what she was looking at.
It was Brandon who was on the other side of the hallway chatting up a couple of girls. I let out a sigh before I opened my locker and I put my things inside of it.
We went to our first class and Tris was sitting up the back by herself but I wasn’t going to let her deal with this alone. There was no need to. Not when she had me to talk to. Even if she thought that I hadn’t realized what was happening at the club the other night.
I sat beside Tris and Ryan sat on the other side of me. That was so his friends could sit near him but be as far away from Tris as possible.
“He’ll realize what he’s missing one day.” I mind linked her.
“Who?” Tris asked.
“Don’t play dumb with me. Do you honestly think that I don’t know?” I asked.
“Well, he doesn’t seem too interested now. He was all over me at the club.” She said.
“That’s because guys are idiots.” I said. And she looked at me with a smile on her face.
Just as the teacher walked into the room he put his things on the desk and Ryan pulled my desk over to touch his, as he always did, and he put his arm along the back of my chair and played with my hair.
But only moments after the class started alarms started sounding from all around us.
Everyone was up as quick as they could and the teacher had to give the orders on where to go.
Those alarms only meant one thing. We were under attack.
I tried to run for the door but Ryan grabbed my arm and wrapped his arms around my waist, using all of his strength to hold me there.
“What the hell are you doing? I have to go and help the warriors.” I yelled. But he spun me around and stared into my eyes.
“As an Alpha, I demand that you stop fighting me and you do what I say.” He ordered.
Now I was physically incapable of going against anything that he said.
Ryan waited for the whole class to be emptied before he went to the doorway and he waited for the school to be clear as well. He just kept us in that classroom for so long and I couldn’t argue with him. I had to do what he said. He waited until everyone was gone before he held my hand and he pulled me down the hallway and we slipped out the side door. He looked around to make sure the coast was clear and instead of going to the packhouse where the shelter was, or even the gym in the school where another shelter was, he took me towards the forest. I could hear where the fighting was happening and we were running in the opposite direction. We ran for about 10 minutes before we came to another hang out that we didn’t want our parents to know about. They were underground bunkers and we went inside but I was commanded to stay inside since there weren’t any doors on the bunkers. Ryan lit a gas lantern to give us a little light and all the crap from our last party was still here. Empt
As the shock was finally starting to wear off, I looked at Ryan who looked really concerned about me now that I knew the truth. “That doesn’t make any sense. How does he even know that I exist? What does he want with me? I’m no one special.” I said. Ryan walked towards me, slowly this time, and he reached his arms out to cup the sides of my face. “I know that it doesn’t make any sense. It doesn’t make sense to me either. That’s all that dad would tell me. He just told me that the Alpha wants you and that I had to keep you away from the battle. You would be too vulnerable there.” He said. I nodded my head in understanding. Now I know why they wanted to keep me away from the fight, but I was still in shock and confused about what was so special about me. I’ve never even seen this guy before, so how does he know that I exist?Ryan finally moved his hands down to my waist and he pulled me closer to him so he could hug me. I wrapped my arms around him as well. I was welcome to whatev
Mom and I were taken to the waiting room and Ryan got us both a cup of coffee. Alpha Matthew arrived shortly after that and he sat in a chair that was facing us. I looked around and there was no one else in the room so I leaned forward on my arms. “Was it his pack that attacked?” I asked. “The Devil’s?” He asked. “Yeah.” “I’m afraid so.” “Why does he want me?” I asked. And mom snapped her head in my direction. “How do you know that?” Mom asked. “Because I’m a fucking psychic.” I snapped at her. Now knowing that she was lying to me as well. “I don’t know why he wants you. He called me the other day. We’d been talking about an alliance. And he said that he was open to the idea. But only if I hand you over to him. I don’t even know how he knows who you are.” Alpha Matthew said. “Why would you want to start an alliance with that man? He’s literally called the Devil.” Ryan said. “You’ve seen all the trouble that we’ve been having with rogues lately. They’re getting worse. And p
Dad had been ordered to take a few days off, which he wasn’t pleased with. He was going to go crazy if he wasn’t working. But mom said that she would keep him busy. It creeped me out when she said that because I wasn’t sure what she meant and I didn’t really want to know. Evan had been in hospital for two days now and I hadn’t left at all. I wanted to be the first one that he saw when he woke up. His girlfriend had only come to see him a couple of times and stayed for a few minutes. She kept saying that it was boring hanging around the hospital if he was unconscious. So she would leave pretty quickly. She probably only came back to check on him because she knew that we wouldn’t tell her when he woke up. Which is absolutely right. I had no intention of calling that bitch. Ryan had come to see me with some fresh clothes, so I used the shower in Evan’s room and I got cleaned up and I went back into the room where Evan was sitting next to Evan’s bed. “He looks really helpless, do
I walked out of the hospital for the first time in three days and as soon as I walked out the front I saw Ryan talking to Alpha Matthew. They were a distance from the hospital so I couldn’t exactly hear what they were saying but as I got a little closer I heard them talking about the battle. “We lost 6 warriors.” Alpha Matthew said. “Don’t tell Amberly. She already thinks this battle is her fault.” Ryan said. And Alpha Matthew looked over Ryan’s shoulder. “It’s a little late.” So Ryan turned around and saw me standing there. “Are you really just going to keep everything a secret from me? You do realize that it’s impossible for secrets to be kept in wolf packs, right. The whole place is like a giant high school. Nothing stays private.” I said. “Yeah. I know. I’m just trying to protect you. You know that. I don’t want you blaming yourself for this.” He said. “It’s a little late for that.” I said. “I better leave you to it. I’ll be at the packhouse if you need me.” Alpha Matthew
Trying to keep a low profile in a wolf pack is really hard for almost everyone. But when you’re considered a medical marvel, then it’s even harder. That’s me and my twin brother. Contrary to what a lot of people think, multiple births are really rare with werewolves. We don’t breed lots of litters when we get pregnant. It’s usually only one baby. But we got lucky and my brother and I are twins and we get along really well for a couple of 17 year olds. It’s almost probably got something to do with our father being the head warrior of the pack as well. He got that title when he was only 28 years old and he’s held it for all these years. And I really don’t think anyone will be taking that title away from him anytime soon. And if anyone tries, he’s going to nominate either myself or my brother. That’s why he works us so hard. Just like this morning for example. I mean, it’s only just dawn and we’ve already jogged half way around the pack territory already. “So Amberly, got any pl
Evan and I were looking through the window until mom pushed us away from the window. “It looks serious.” I said. “It’s none of our business.” Mom said. Dad seemed to be outside for ages before he came back inside. He refused to talk about anything that he and the Beta were talking about which was frustrating. I hated being left in the dark about important stuff like this. If they’re minor little crap that we put up with at school then I couldn’t care less. But when it involved my family, I got a little more protective. “Come on you two. It’s time for school.” Mom said. So we grabbed our bags and we walked out of the house. We weren’t saying anything either but when we got to the end of our road a mercedes convertible pulled up next to us and I looked over to see Ryan, the Alpha’s son, driving it. With his perfectly chiseled face, soft eyes and short brown hair. “Want a lift?” He asked. “Hell yeah.” I said, opening the door. I pulled the seat forward so Evan could get in the
As soon as I finished the training session with the kids, Evan met me at the field and we walked home together. Dad didn’t want either of us to have a car because he thought that was just lazy. We could walk wherever we wanted to go. Besides, the pack wasn’t that big so it wasn’t going to be a massive task to walk somewhere. When we got home I put my bag in my room and I went back to the kitchen and I finished helping mom with dinner. The three of us sat down to eat together, but dad was nowhere to be seen. “Where is he?” Evan asked, sitting at his seat. “I don’t know. He just told me that he had important business happening at the packhouse.” Mom said. “Do you know what was going on this morning? The Beta never comes to the house that early in the morning unless it’s pretty urgent.” I said. “I told you everything I know. I’m sorry. Now, stop asking and eat your dinner.” Mom said. I looked back and Ryan and Evan were trying to fight their way through the crowd, but they were trying to fight their way through the crowd. This guy was dragging me towards a side exit. So I grabbed onto a pole that was near the exit and he was pulled to a sudden stop. When he saw that I had a hold of the bar, he tried to pry my hands off of it but I threw my head back and headbutted him.His grip loosened but it didn’t let go of me, so I used my tall sharp heel and I slammed it down onto his foot and I managed to wriggle out of his grasp. He stood up straight again and tried to grab me again when I punched him in the throat and he fell backwards as I grabbed a beer bottle and I smashed it over his head. Ryan and Evan finally got to me and Ryan grabbed the guy by the collar and forced him outside that side door and Evan grabbed a hold of me to check me over. “Are you alright? Did he hurt you?” Evan asked. “No. He didn’t even throw a punch.” I said, confused. I was about to fol
