Cora and I are outside Grayson’s house, dancing to “Dog Days Are Over” by someone. I completely forgot about this song, but it has such a nice vibe. We were the first to arrive, but everyone else followed quite quickly.I laugh as Cora sings along, but she is getting the words wrong. We are both hammered.“You guys want another one?” Grayson asks me and Cora. She nods and I think for a moment. I do not want a hangover tomorrow, but I also do not want to be sober tonight. I nod quickly before joining Cora with the dance we have practiced. She smiles at me and I sway my hips to the beat.Grayson hands us both a cup with alcohol in it. I think it is Vodka since it burns going down. I shake my head, scrunching my nose up. Ugh, it tastes bitter. Cora pulls the same face.Grayson and some of the jocks are dancing with us outside since the DJ is stationed outside. It is a bold move on Grayson’s part to have speakers inside and outside of the house. I will run from the police if they show up.
Jake’s POV: I let out a tired sigh, leaning my forehead against my cabin’s doors. I am exhausted. This mission has been a failure and we basically wasted our time. The hunters were not where Tyler’s source claimed. I should have known that it would not be that easy. We have been looking for them for over three years. They would never just show up somewhere random. I go to unlock my door, but it is already unlocked. I could have sworn I locked it. Did someone break in? I inhale deeply, a familiar scent filling my senses. What is she doing here? I enter and see her lying on my couch, fast asleep. What the? As I make my over to her, I notice the painting on the counter. Oh no, I completely forgot about that. A soft snore escapes her mouth and I chuckle softly. She must have fallen asleep here. I crouch down next to the couch, my eyes glued to her. She looks as tired as I feel. I glance over my shoulder at the drawing. She must have stayed up all night to finish it. I need to wake h
I trail behind the small group, heading to Grayson’s party. I honestly do not know how Wes managed to convince me to go. And then he chickened out because he remembered he had to study for a test. I pull a hand through my hair. I guess Tyler and Allison might need a designated driver back home or a designated walker. Those two are driving me insane. We reach the street of Grayson’s home and the music is booming through the neighborhood. He is going to get the police involved. How can music be this loud? Allison is the first to rush through the small gate on Grayson’s law, but she bumps into Grayson and he spills some, what I can only assume is alcohol, on her dress. Tyler reacts and I let out a loud sigh. Just because it is mating season and these two are beyond horny, does not mean Tyler can fight every male he sees. I push to the front of the crowd, but someone else beat me. “Enough. Honestly, you always have to ruin parties. What is wrong with you?” I see Kate scolding Tyler.
It looks like she wants to cry. She rolls her eyes and turns to the front, ignoring my calls. I run up to her and grab her arm.“Kate, what is wrong?” I ask while turning her to look at me. She stops and looks me up and down, letting out a sigh. She rubs her face, smearing her make-up. Not again. I cannot laugh at her, not now.“Nothing,” she says, but I know she is lying. I tilt my head. She removes her arm from my hand. “Really, nothing. I am drunk beyond comprehension and I am tired, so please leave.” She looks into my eyes, tilting her head with a soft smile. “I am going to say stuff I should not say,” she mumbles, shaking her head. She continues to walk, but I step in front of her. She huffs out a breath and throws her head back.“Let me at least walk you back home,” I offer. Her head stays back and it looks like she is talking to the sky. She drops her head to look at me.“No, I can make it to my own house. I do not need your help. Stop being nice to me,” she mutters the last pa
Kate’s POV: I groan, pulling the blanket over my eyes. Ugh, I am never drinking again. What was I thinking? My head is pounding and my stomach makes a funny noise. I knew I would regret drinking, but I still did it. I slowly remove the blanket from my face, groaning again when the light burns my eyes and worsens the pounding in my head. I sigh as I sit up, the pounding causing my vision to blur. I need to get some water into my body. With a determined sigh, I stumble out of bed toward the kitchen. I trudge down the stairs, reaching the kitchen with a worsened headache. I notice my dad and mum sitting at the island in the kitchen, both drinking tea in silence. “Morning,” I say as I enter the kitchen. My dad chuckles at my state while my mum shakes her head in disappointment. “Morning. How was your night?” my dad asks. I flash him a smile before I pour water into one of the larger glasses. “It was fun, but I am not doing it again,” I admit, causing my dad to laugh. I down the gl
After spending the afternoon cleaning up the house, I fall onto the couch with a heavy sigh. Jake comes out of the bathroom, drying his hands on his pants. He sits down next to me, yawning. “That was not fun,” he states simply, rubbing his eyes. I hum in agreement, my eyes trained on the clean coffee table. My eyes are teary from the dust and I wipe the tears from my eyes. I wonder when Allison’s mother will wake up. She has not moved since Jake put her on the bed. I glance over my shoulder to the room, waiting for movement. I want to go home but do not want to leave her alone. It feels wrong. “I should probably take the bags to the dumping site. Are you staying here?” Jake asks as he stands up. He stretches his back and a few cracking sounds escape. “I will come with you. Let me just leave my number for when she wakes up.” I also get up and walk to the kitchen. I search through the drawers for the pen I saw earlier. I find the pen and write my number on one of the napkins from ano
I watch as Jake takes my hand and places it on his chest. I roll my eyes.“You just want me to feel your muscles,” I say, a laugh escaping my lips. Jake’s eyes light up.“That’s what you said last night.” He chuckles and I cannot stop smiling. He looks different than the last time I saw him. The dark circles under his eyes are lighter and his usual frown has disappeared, leaving behind a soft gaze.I feel the warmness from him on my hand that is still resting on his chest. And he is actually allowing me to come close to him, initiating the touch. He is not flinching away.He takes my other hand, guiding it to his face. The cold cheek comes into contact with my palm and I cup his face. My heart thumps in my chest as I have to focus on my breathing. I cannot believe it.Jake pulls me closer, his hands resting on my hips. I have a shy smile on my face with heat rushing to my cheeks. I feel like a silly middle-school girl, giggling at his hands on my waist. I have never experienced these
The atmosphere is even more lively than in the previous game. The cheerleaders from the other school just finished their routine and we are waiting for our introduction. My nerves are beyond out of control and I struggle to contain my excitement. The other girls are as excited as I am. When we are called, Cora leads us out onto the field, even though I am the cheer captain. I asked her since this would be my first time cheering and that is enough stress. I do not need the additional stress from leading the girls. My high pony whips as I jog to my place. We get into formation and she lets out a cheer, indicating for us to start the routine. We move effortlessly through the routine and I have a wide smile. I have to admit that this is a lot of fun. It always seemed so difficult, but it is quite easy once you get the hang of the different moves. Cora shouts again and we end the routine with a power stance. Our side of the bleachers breaks into deafening cheers and I look at Cora. She
