Kate’s POV: I groan, pulling the blanket over my eyes. Ugh, I am never drinking again. What was I thinking? My head is pounding and my stomach makes a funny noise. I knew I would regret drinking, but I still did it. I slowly remove the blanket from my face, groaning again when the light burns my eyes and worsens the pounding in my head. I sigh as I sit up, the pounding causing my vision to blur. I need to get some water into my body. With a determined sigh, I stumble out of bed toward the kitchen. I trudge down the stairs, reaching the kitchen with a worsened headache. I notice my dad and mum sitting at the island in the kitchen, both drinking tea in silence. “Morning,” I say as I enter the kitchen. My dad chuckles at my state while my mum shakes her head in disappointment. “Morning. How was your night?” my dad asks. I flash him a smile before I pour water into one of the larger glasses. “It was fun, but I am not doing it again,” I admit, causing my dad to laugh. I down the gl
After spending the afternoon cleaning up the house, I fall onto the couch with a heavy sigh. Jake comes out of the bathroom, drying his hands on his pants. He sits down next to me, yawning. “That was not fun,” he states simply, rubbing his eyes. I hum in agreement, my eyes trained on the clean coffee table. My eyes are teary from the dust and I wipe the tears from my eyes. I wonder when Allison’s mother will wake up. She has not moved since Jake put her on the bed. I glance over my shoulder to the room, waiting for movement. I want to go home but do not want to leave her alone. It feels wrong. “I should probably take the bags to the dumping site. Are you staying here?” Jake asks as he stands up. He stretches his back and a few cracking sounds escape. “I will come with you. Let me just leave my number for when she wakes up.” I also get up and walk to the kitchen. I search through the drawers for the pen I saw earlier. I find the pen and write my number on one of the napkins from ano
I watch as Jake takes my hand and places it on his chest. I roll my eyes.“You just want me to feel your muscles,” I say, a laugh escaping my lips. Jake’s eyes light up.“That’s what you said last night.” He chuckles and I cannot stop smiling. He looks different than the last time I saw him. The dark circles under his eyes are lighter and his usual frown has disappeared, leaving behind a soft gaze.I feel the warmness from him on my hand that is still resting on his chest. And he is actually allowing me to come close to him, initiating the touch. He is not flinching away.He takes my other hand, guiding it to his face. The cold cheek comes into contact with my palm and I cup his face. My heart thumps in my chest as I have to focus on my breathing. I cannot believe it.Jake pulls me closer, his hands resting on my hips. I have a shy smile on my face with heat rushing to my cheeks. I feel like a silly middle-school girl, giggling at his hands on my waist. I have never experienced these
The atmosphere is even more lively than in the previous game. The cheerleaders from the other school just finished their routine and we are waiting for our introduction. My nerves are beyond out of control and I struggle to contain my excitement. The other girls are as excited as I am. When we are called, Cora leads us out onto the field, even though I am the cheer captain. I asked her since this would be my first time cheering and that is enough stress. I do not need the additional stress from leading the girls. My high pony whips as I jog to my place. We get into formation and she lets out a cheer, indicating for us to start the routine. We move effortlessly through the routine and I have a wide smile. I have to admit that this is a lot of fun. It always seemed so difficult, but it is quite easy once you get the hang of the different moves. Cora shouts again and we end the routine with a power stance. Our side of the bleachers breaks into deafening cheers and I look at Cora. She

Something like a . . . song. “What if we ask the DJ over there to play a song, something like . . . “ I trail off. The girls wait for me. I rack my brain for a song. “Like “Sweet Caroline” from Neil Diamond?” I ask with more hope. They all agree and I hurry over to the DJ, whispering to him the idea. He smiles and nods. I run back to the girls and we stand in front of our bleachers to hype our students up. Everyone knows this song, so this will definitely get their energy back up. “Hands, touching hands.”“Reaching out, touching me, touching you.” “Sweet Caroline.” PUM PUM PUM There are a few students who sing along. We only need to keep going.“Good times never seemed so good.”“I've been inclined.” PUM PUM PUMMuch more students are singing along and a lot of them have stood up in the meantime. Ace, this is all we need. Just more of this and then we will have the energy back. “One, touching one.”“Reaching out, touching me, touching you.” The energy grows and I cannot help
I turn to Cora and we both take a moment to register that our team just won. Cora is the first to react and she starts to cheer loudly.“We won!” Cora shouts at the top of her lungs and I let out a loud laugh. The excitement fills me with adrenaline and I cannot contain myself. I run to the field with the rest of the cheer girls and our side of the bleachers. We are still celebrating when “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore starts playing through the speakers. Cora throws her arm over my shoulders and we dance together, singing along as loud as we can.“We won!” Cora shouts again, hugging me tightly. I hug her back and we sway from side to side. I smile widely, realizing that we have also reconnected. Cora pulls back, flashing me a warm smile.“We won,” I repeat. The rest of the cheer girls have joined us and we are all talking over each other. Someone taps my shoulder and I turn slightly to see who it is.Wes smiles at me, his hands pulling me in for a quick embrace.“Well done,” he says w
“What?” I ask, failing to hide my frustration. Jake merely raises a brow at me.“What?” he asks as his eyes bore into mine. I open my mouth to talk but snap it close again. I take a breath, thinking of what it is that is truly bothering me. Ah, the girl. “How do you know the girl from the other school’s cheerleading squad? I remember seeing her at the party,” I say, trying to sound nonchalant. Jake has a skewed smile and he chuckles softly.“She goes way back. She was my friend in middle school. They moved here recently.” I bob my head along, suddenly feeling very silly for being jealous. What is wrong with me? I swear it is this world. I am becoming one with the Wattpad world.“Ah, that is nice. Well . . . “ I trail off, trying to think of something to say, but my head hurts too much. “Thanks for the lift and good night. You had a fantastic night,” I say with a warm smile, turning to the front door. Jake pulls me back again.“You remember her from the party?” Jake asks, his hand’s
