Chapter 7

POV

I walk down the hall to where Kira and David were busy making breakfast, they were making eggs and bacon.

David spots me and smiles, he walks over and hands me a cup of coffee. “Enjoy…” he tells me.

I smile. “I’ve a few errands to run today. What are the two of you doing today?” I ask.

“Let’s give mom eggs first okay…” David kisses my forehead as he places a plate of gets before me. I look down at the scrambled eggs and bacon on my plate. There are two slices of toast too.

I’m not used to being taken care of yet alone by David. I had a crush on my husband. I pat my cheeks when he isn’t looking to calm the heat in my cheeks.

I was blushing because David and I’ve never been like a normal married couple. Yet alone in front of our daughter. His sister getting married must have changed David or something that happened while he was deployed.

I didn’t expect him to ask to have more children, I always expected that he didn’t find me attractive. He kissed me. He has never kissed me before. Well, we kissed once before, when we got married. The day we got married at the court, we didn’t even have our own witnesses, they were provided by the court as well.

I dig into the eggs. I moan, gosh they’re so good. I didn’t expect David to be good at cooking. I’ve always done the cooking, it’s nice to have someone cook for me, even if it’s just eggs and bacon, it’s the thought that counts.

He really makes the best sunny side up eggs I’ve ever had. He is the eldest of six children, maybe that’s why he knows how to cook? David rarely talks about his family, and when he does, he’s rarely home for us to have a conversation about family. After Kira he was the only family, I have now.

David is a great man, I’m very well aware that if we didn’t have Kira, he never would have been mine.

I know if we have more children, I would be home alone majority of the time, and I’ll have to take care of everything plus my work. I’m hesitant because of my work, but David is thinking about our family. I have no idea if I should give in or not.

I watch Davis and Kira interact. I begin to imagine what it would be like with two children, a baby in his arms, while Kira fusses over the baby.

I always assumed David would divorce me when he’s ready to have more children.

“Thank you so much for the eggs they were lovely…” I compliment their hard work.

He looks at me for a second before smiling. “So do you have to work today?” David asks.

“I have to go in for a little, but I’m free for the rest of the day… Why?” I ask.

“I was hoping we could go on a hike as a family. We haven’t had any of those. And I think as a family we do…” he says.

“That sounds like fun. Let me get ready…” I say finishing off my food, I place it in the sink. I rinse them off before putting them in the dishwasher. “So, your sister’s getting married?” I ask.

He smiles. “From what I’ve heard she’s already married; this is just a reception of sorts. It’s the first time the family’s meeting her husband as well. Apparently, he comes from a big family, that has a lot of money…” he explains.

I frown a little. “Do you know his last name?” I ask.

“I think it was Hudson.” He shrugs his shoulders.

The Hudson family is known for their wealth and their not so legal dealings.

I only know about them because of the accident Amelia Hudson was in. Or Amelia Sanders now.

I smile before heading upstairs. That family has a lot of enemies. I hope David’s sister doesn’t get caught in the cross hairs.

I get ready for work, like I normally do, skinny jeans and a tank top, a pair of sneakers that have seen better days.

Once I’m ready I get into my car and drive to where Carla is meeting me. I didn’t have much time, but I needed to hand over some of my tasks while David was in town.

The drive to Carla’s house is peaceful as always, I hum along to the song on the radio.

I couldn’t stop thinking about what happened. I was still in shock. A baby? Would that mean we would start trying? Or would that mean we’d take the other route. I know many success stories for IVF. But I knew David didn’t love me. We married for our daughter. I was barely eighteen at the time. A string of unfortunate events led to this moment.

When I’m outside her house I wait for her to come out.

She walks out of the house and gets in the car.

“I hear your husband’s back in town. What does it mean for the schedule?” she asks.

I sigh. “It means I need to work for a few hours a day and then be home after that…” I tell her.

She cringes.

I know I was asking for a lot. But I couldn’t let him know what I was doing. There’s a lot of what we’re doing that wasn’t exactly legal, so we didn’t need people knowing…

“I have a favor to ask…” I tell her.

She frowns. “What’s up…”

“I need Simone Wells. David’s brother wants to hire someone to be his Fiancée until he gets his promotion…" I explain.

Her frown deepens. “And you’re sure Simone could, do it?” she asks.

“She’s one of the only women we have that could pass as a doctor’s wife…” I remind her.

“Rather send in. Quinn Daily.” She says.

I bite my lip. Quinn was gorgeous, long blonde locks, sea blue eyes her entire face was made to be a model. The only problem we had with her was that her clients always fell in love with the role she played.

The last thing I wanted was for my brother-in-law to fall in love with Quinn.
