"You see, I needed to see you," he admitted, his voice tremulous but real. "I just couldn't stop thinking about you after today the elevator, the seminar... the whole work."

That just didn't do it for me; it simply didn't account for his drinking, the emotional wreck he was obviously, and the fact that he had barged again into my life without so much as an advance warning.

“It doesn’t explain the drinking,” I said, narrowing my eyes and focusing on him closely.

Grant; he raked a hand through his hair, his usual composure slipping away with each passing second. He looked exhausted, emotionally drained. “Could say I thought it would make things easier,” he murmured, the voice almost unhearable. “Less terrifying to face you. Less terrifying to admit how badly I’ve screwed up.”

On a slow exhale, I took a deep breath, eyes narrowing. This was where I could give in completely to raw anger and fury, only his expression turned me away from that. I had no desire to go vulnerable again. I would

The reminder all these words gave was that for the window frames I would have to move my distance. I couldn’t afford to let myself unravel again. Not now. Quickly scurrying out of the shower, I started rifling through my suitcase. Because the seminar was high profile and either made or broke reputations, I strapped up my luck and took out a fitted emerald green dress; nothing but room for complete contouring. It had a conservative neckline and long sleeves; the perfect middle ground between professional and polished. Black-heeled shoes and simple gold jewelry would make it up nicely, and that would be the required look-to project confidence. Let some soft waves linger around my face and hope they impart to me an air of some control. By this time, I should be a tad more like myself by finishing getting dressed. More composed, yet more confident and prepared to face the day ahead. But my polished outside can't shake the gnawing feeling deep inside the pit of my stomach. While zipp

A huge hall was alive with excitement, buzzing with electrical anticipation as the seminar was peaking. The host spoke into the air, reverberating all over the place to capture the attention of the people filling the seats. But my mind was far away from the oratory speeches or the discussions. Damien's cryptic warnings echoed from my head, a constant shadow over this day. "And now, ladies and gentlemen," announced the exuberant host, "please welcome a pioneer in innovation and leadership, Mr. Grant Wells!" Thunderous applause erupted and swept through the hall like a tidal wave, loud and energetic. It was deafening, but I hardly noticed. It made my stomach churn to see Grant rise from his seat in the front. He moved with an effortless grace, his navy-blue suit impeccably tailored, accentuating his broad shoulders and commanding presence. He adjusted his tie with practiced ease, flashing a polite smile at the applauding crowd. The spotlight followed him as he ascended the stage - th

The crowd buzzed with interest, enthusiastic murmurs sifting through the hall. People shuffled in their chairs, looking sideways at each other, excitement in that kind of glow sparked by the suggestion of something huge and social taking place."Formal attire is encouraged," added the host with a wink as his smile turned infectious, "and don't forget to bring a guest." Let's make it a night to remember! A curious dread stirred deep within me. I had not expected there to be a party, much less conceptualized spending an evening at such a high-profile venue with very random strangers. A gala was not exactly my idea of how to have fun. Mingling with people, almost all of them dressed to the nines, and chatting about the most superficial things was really just leaving me out of place. I hastily gathered my things: phone, notebook, everything that I could stuff inside my bag, ready to sneak away quickly before the big event was forced upon me. In other words, I had no intention of attendi

At last the meeting was over, but I carried with me an unshakable feral gnawing in my breast. No more thoughts of how large or small the numbers look in the firm, snazzy strategies or plans discussed at the conference for hours. I'm consumed by her.Lena. I pushed my chair from the conference table with an iceberg's weight of irritation coursing through me like an electric wire. I kept going back to holding her as Grant at the seminar. I hated the idea of him being tall, charming, smooth, hovering too close to her. She was mine. I don’t share. Yet here I am, thousands of miles away. And I could still hear the sharpness in her voice when we spoke earlier today, when I asked her if Grant was with her. The response had come so quickly it had seemed too fast. No. But there had been something in the way she said it, something that made the words feel unconvincing, as if she wasn't really sure about it. I didn't like it.Then Claire entered the office, carrying a tablet in her slightly pa

Lena's Pov With that, I faced the nightstand, my heart racing at the buzz. Damien. His name boldly flashed across the screen. My hesitation came. Another familiar swirl of guilt and disappointment washed over me.I don't want to hear any more accusations from him, this is paranoia with regards to Grant in his head. But the slight tug of desire to hear his voice even for a moment ground me.I let it ring once again before picking up."Damien," I said, my voice quieter than I meant it to be. "Lena," he breathed, relief flooding his tone. "Thank God. I've been trying to reach you all day." "Busy," I explained while looking towards the dress hanging on the door. "And with Grant?" he demanded, his voice now laced with an edge that made my insides curl. "It's work, Damien," I said, trying to sound firm. "I told you that." "I don't care what you've told me," he said angrily. "You don't know what he's capable of. You are walking into something dangerous, and if you don't know it, well,

  • His to Consume    Too Close, Too Hard

Lena's PovAs the night went on, I was becoming more and more ornery. The merriment felt hollow, and I couldn't shake the feeling that I really wasn't part of it."I want a little fresh air," I said softly to Grant as we stood by the bar.He frowned, his eyes showing concern for her. "Do you want me to go with you?"I shook my head. "No, I will be fine. I just need a moment."He hesitated, then nodded. "Just don't go too far."I slipped outside onto the terrace, feeling grateful for the cool night air. The city spread before me: a glimmering ocean of twinkling lights that seemed to stretch on forever.I leaned against the railing with my eyes shut and taking deep breaths. The far away sounds of the party faded away into distinct silence meant the company of my thoughts. "Already running away?" The voice startled me, and I turned to see Damien standing, a few feet away. My heart skipped a beat. "What are you doing here?" I demanded, my voice sharper than I aimed it to be. He steppe

  • His to Consume    You Came??

Lena's povThe room was silent and it enveloped me like a heavy cloak. I took a shaky breath and paced back to the window, the city lights below no longer illuminated simply blurring with tears pooling in my eyes. Damien's voice echoed in my mind."What do you really want?"It had been a simple question, yet I could not answer that. Not really. So concerned had I been keeping the peace trying to sail through the storm created by these two men that I never took the time to really introspect my own desires.Actually, I was afraid. Afraid regarding which I should pick. Afraid of hurting somebody. Afraid of being wrong about what they really were.I pressed my forehead into the cool glass and shut my eyes, allowing the tears to flow.Another soft knock brought me from thought. For a moment, I thought it was Grant coming back to check on me. But when I opened the door, it wasn't the case but I found a hotel staff member standing there with an envelope in hand. • His to Consume    You Don't Even Know Him??

Lena's POV I stood and walked to the window, pressing my palm against the cold glass outside, the city stretched, that sound muted at that height. Outside, the night felt alive, vivid, and chaotic while I somehow fell into a fragile silence like the turning of one wrong screed word would shatter everything. The door-knock broke my thoughts, and I was about to take a step when my heart quite literally jumped into my throat. Was it Damien again? Or Grant, coming to make sure I was all right?Came across the room, lights beautifully reflected as the soft, plush carpet muted my footfalls. When I opened the door, I was both relieved and unnerved to find Grant standing there. "May I come in?" he asked softly, his voice unusually subdued. I nodded and stepped aside to let him in.He went into the middle of the room and turned to meet me with his sight. He had his hands in his pockets and looked chill, but not with those bright eyes of his. They were sharp and watching me like an object th

  • His to Consume    Unmasking Secrets

Ariel's POV I navigated the aisles of the upscale grocery store, tossing a few essentials into my cart while my mind replayed the day's events. I was worried about Lena- sickened from worrying about how far she would go. I sighed and rubbed my temples as I walked toward the checkout. Probably a quiet night alone would help me think. After paying, I stepped out on the sidewalk, shifting my bags around in my arms while raising one hand to flag down a taxi. That's when I saw her.Allyson.Lena's assistant.Allyson was a few feet away, standing in the same manner and trying to catch a taxi. My brows twisted downwards. It wasn't strange for Allyson to be out, but there was something about the way she was standing-an urgent, almost anxious-like it's stopping Ariel right in her tracks. Allyson looked behind her as if she were checking for someone before hastily getting into the cab.Clarity came back in a flash. Something was wrong. I moved without thinking and jumped into the next taxi.

  • His to Consume    The Walls Are Closing in

Lena's POVAriel scoffed. "How generous." I met Sean’s gaze, ignoring Ariel’s comment. "And if I don’t?"The smirk was still there, but now there was a little less shine to it. "Then Cassidy keeps coming. And she won’t stop until you’re drowning." I drummed my fingers against the desk. "Tell me something, Sean/ do you enjoy being her lap dog? Fetching threats and delivering messages like an obedient little servant?"His expression didn’t change, but I knew he was getting annoyed with me."I enjoy working for someone who knows how to win," he replied with a bit of a smile. "And that’s exactly what Cassidy is doing."Finally, I lifted the envelope, ripped it open, and removed the crisp letter. My eyes scanned the words and my jaw tightened.Cassidy wasn’t just playing the media against me; she was making moves in the business world. Pulling strings with my investors, aligning herself with my competitors. If I didn’t act fast, she’d have her hands wrapped around my empire’s throat.I pl

  • His to Consume    The Gloves Come Off

Lena PovThirty minutes later I found myself sitting across from Victor in a private lobby of an exclusive hotel. He slid a thick folder across the table. I opened it and scanned the pages with my eyes. The seemingly immaculate life of Cassidy Graham had a few cracks- cracks not seen until this moment."Her finances are not as clean as she makes them appear," Victor said, a calm note to his voice covering a trace of satisfaction. "There are some shady offshore dealings under one of her shell companies; not illegal yet, but it wouldn't take much to make it look like one."I was tapping my fingers on the table, considering.Victor continued, "Her personal life is the other half. She's been seen with Damien quite often. The media would devour the insinuation of an affair."I raised my brow as I looked up. "An affair?”Victor smirked. "That's how we'll frame it."I inhaled slowly while considering the next steps. The offshore accounts were straightforward; they would definitely harm her r

  • His to Consume    No Mercy

Lena's POVI dropped the call and let silence embrace me as my heart regained its calmness. The anger churning in my gut, however, remained unbridled, scorching beneath my skin. Cassidy had drifted in, taunted me before drifting away like a winner. But she was mistaken. I walked to the window and gazed down at the city below. Streets stretched below with the pull of life, unaware of the war that was rising from the shadows. I had built my empire in this city, made my name untouchable. And Cassidy thought she would take it away from me? No chance. I turned back to my desk, flipping through the reports of the latest damage control efforts. The media had been relentless on me. The headlines cast me as a tyrant, my employees as victims, my business as a decaying empire. Some of my top investors had already withdrawn, and those still holding on were betting on my ability to weather this storm. I would. A knock sounded at my door. I didn't look up. "What?" Marie came in, her steps hes

  • His to Consume    Face Off Between Two Queens

In the charged air between us, we both stood on our ground, studying each other for a fight. Cassidy had the guts to walk into my space, my office, as if she owned the place. And yet she didn't bat an eye. No hesitation marked her steps, nor was there any flicker of doubt in her gaze. She wanted this confrontation.Fine. I would give her one.I leaned back on the desk, arms crossed, as I met her ice-cold glare. "You've certainly grown bolder," I said flatly. "All that time spent scheming in the shadows must have done wonders for your confidence."A tinkling laugh escaped Cassidy. She sounded light, but the undertone was sharper. "Oh, Lena. You act as though you haven’t been doing the same. The difference is I don’t hide behind boardrooms and PR firms. I fight my battles head-on."I scoffed. "Is that what you call it? Lying? Poisoning the media against me? You are not a warrior, Cassidy. You are a snake, slithering in the cracks while waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike."He

  • His to Consume    Face Off With The She-Devil

Lena's POVDamien closed the door behind him and leaned against it, crossing his arms. "You are driving straight into a downward spiral, Lena." His voice was low but firm. "And it is pathetic."I shot him a glare. "Excuse me?""You heard me," he said, stepping closer. "Look at you. Scurrying frantically to try and hold on to power, chasing shadows, and lashing out at everyone around you. This is not the Lena I know!""You don't know me," I shot back. "You have no idea what I've been through, what I've had to fight for."Damien's eyes narrowed, and his jaw clenched. "I know you've always been ruthless, but this? This is desperation, Lena. And desperation will make you sloppy."A flare of rage shot up through my chest. "If you're here to lecture me, skip it. I've had enough of your advice.""You need something," he said, his voice slicing into my defenses like a knife. "Because right now, Cassidy's winning. And if you don't stop acting like a cornered animal, she's going to run you out.

  • His to Consume    A Little Misunderstanding

Lena's POV I hung up without another word, mind a million miles ahead of the present situation. This was going to be the start of a legal spate; I was determined to tell my story and remind them how I am the queen of this industry.I spun around toward my laptop, typed up an emergency statement that had to reach each and every national publication before daybreak: Good-naturedly offering recognition of the challenges, some non-essential regrets for "misunderstandings", and reaffirming my commitment to excellence. This was a standard maneuver, creating an impression that had worked in the past any number of times. But it felt wrong. Cassidy was not only trash talking me; she was actually shredding the very fabric of what I stood for. And deep inside, I knew this was no tale about her being hurt or displaced. It was a simple tale of revenge.Sitting paralyzed before the luminous screen, a thunderbolt hit me: Why shouldn’t I play for both sides? Why must I let Cassidy run this fight? No

  • His to Consume    The Mess i Made

Lena's POV Opening the door to my office unceremoniously, there was the loud creak of the hinges shattering the fierce silence. Grant walked in, his usual authoritative self almost hazed with agitation. Clad in his immaculate tailor-suit as ever, the tautness of his jaw and the flickering unease in his eyes gave him away."What do you want, Grant?" I asked as irritation escaped my voice. He shut the door behind him and took slow, steady steps toward my desk. "I'm here to talk about the mess you made, Lena."Leaning back into the chair, I drummed my fingers against the armrest. "The mess I made?" My voice was bitter. "That's something to say coming from you."Grant's expression darkened. "Don't even go there. The tabloids are not exactly kind to you. The Graham family is furious, and now the investors are asking if you are even worth the risk."I sprang from my chair, the heels clacking sharply against the marble as I closed the distance between us. "Don't lecture me about risks, Gran

  • His to Consume    A Snitch Within

Lena's POVMy heels clicked sharply against the cobblestones as I exited the sleek black car, approaching the glittering glass facade of my flagship store. It shimmered like a fortress of success, a tangible testament to everything I had built with my sweat, ambition, and many sleepless nights. But today, even its imposing beauty felt diminished, its big façade cracking only visible to me.I had a holiday from the unending chaos inside the Parisian resort, after my disastrous fashion show. It was a happy place, so peaceful between grittiness. I had sat beside tranquil waters and overdosed on luxury, but even there, a weight of failure pressed down on my chest. And it was an illusion; the calm turned to an ache, that as soon as the real world came in, cold and sharps always were waiting, like an old friend. My empire..the one I had built from scratch, brick by painstaking brick-was under attack, and I knew exactly who the enemy was.As I stepped inside, the same humming environment gre
