The dungeons are cold, and I can feel the silence down through my bones. A drop of water keeps falling from a nearby pipe. It seems to be the only water source down here. "What's a pretty girl like you doing down here?" I hear a voice. The voice sounded like a snake, mysterious and cold. "W-Who are you?" I get up. "Oh no, darling, that won't matter, won't matter at all." A female voice says this time. "St-Stay away from me!" Then hands grab at my ankles and pull me down.
Whispering surrounds me and I feel as if I'm going crazy. "Who's there?" I try to crawl, but hands keep me down. "Sh, child! They'll hear you!" Snake shushes. Who's he? What's going on? "L-Leave me alone!" I grab at where the voices come from. I end up touching a beard. A small scream falls flat from my mouth. "I thought we told you to hush child." A cold harsh hand hits my face. More whispering and I actually feel crazy. "S-Stop talking!" I join in on the whispering involuntarily. I can see their eyes, wide and tired. "What's your name, child?" The female wonders. I don't know if I should give them my real name, my middle name, or a fake name. "L-Louise, if you may." My great manners came out. "Louise." Snake drags out the name. "Don't lie to us, child." The talking stops. I can feel that the people who were whispering are gone. But safety comes just like sleep does. It doesn't. There's a window. I can clearly see that the sun has risen. Alpha Hughes's instructions are for me to stay down here all night. And I have. This must mean my time's up! "How has she been, Charles?" I hear my mate's voice. "She's been whispering to people all night." Charles answers. "Who?" I see Alpha Hughes's forest green eyes look at me. "I don't know, I didn't hear any other voices." Charles explains. What? Then who was I talking to? There are other people here! I could hear them! "Alright, well, I'll talk to her about it." Then he comes by the cell I'm in. He looks at me and shakes his head. It seems when Alpha Hughes needs to think, he paces. Pacing means that you're anxious, so what's he anxious about? I can see that he's going over something in his head. His eyes tell it all. "What voices did you hear?" He asks. "A man and a woman." I inform. "Okay, okay, well, you were the only one in your cell. So they must have been-" I interrupt him. "They were in my cell. They grabbed my ankles." Alpha Hughes mutters a few swear words. "Don't interrupt me, Samantha." He says with a warning tone. I nod and look down. "Have you heard voice before?" Alpha Hughes wonders. I nod. "It wasn't your wolf?" He questions. I don't answer him. My wolf doesn't communicate with me. The only time I've ever heard her voice was when I met Alpha Hughes. "Answer me!" He yells. "No, i-it wasn't." I mutter. "Dammit!" He whispers and walked out. I followed him. I'm left alone again. I take some time to look at his room. The walls are ivory, his bed as a white comforter, light blue throw pillows, and white pillows. He has a gray sofa in the left corner of the room and in front of that sofa is a wooden coffee table. The coffee table has a mug on it alone with a few other books and a newspaper. Above his bed there is a ceiling fan with lights on it. The room is rather plain, but well decorated. I stay in the room for the whole day. Alpha Hughes constantly checks up on me to make sure Emily hasn't taken me out yet. And each time he comes by, I forget to ask him where Emily is. Normally, she'd try to visit me. Emily hasn't been in my life for a long time, but I know her. And I know she would have attempted to make sure I am still intact. Around noon, I hear a knock on the door. I quickly rush over to the door and pray that it's my lunch. "Jack, I know you're in there!" The familiar voice of Chelsea calls. But instead, I open the door. "What are you doing here?" She eyes me. "I l-live here." I summon all my nonexistent confidence. "Sure you do," Chelsea eyes me some more, "well if I were you, I'd get out of here before he finds out you're in his room, slut." Then she walks away. The next knock on the door is in fact my lunch. The woman who brings me my meals tells me that it's a cheese quesadilla with a side of cilantro-lime rice. It looks so delicious. I quickly thank the person who brought me my lunch and I start to eat it. By the coffee table there's a small television. He has N*****x so I decide to watch Legally Blonde. "What are you doing?" I catch Alpha Hughes's scent. "I-I, um-" I can tell he's a very impatient person because yet again he interrupts me. "I never said you could watch N*****x." He crosses his arms. "I was j-just looking for some-something to do." I stutter. "Just don't do it again." He glares at me before leaving again. Why is it such a big deal if I watch N*****x or not?Samantha's POV:The day goes by slowly, without a single checkup from Emily. I can't believe she didn't come to see me. It's not like she follows Alpha Hughes' rules anyway. Then around six pm, Alpha Hughes comes by again with Emily. I can feel the smile lift on my face. "I'm introducing you to the pack today. Emily if you pull anything. I swear you're gone." He has a tight hold on her wrists. I can see a bruise start to form. We're in my closet and she's going through all the possible outfits. "You don't want to look trashy, but you also don't want to look like you're trying too hard." She whispers to herself. Then she gasps. Whatever it is I'm wearing tonight, Emily finds it.The outfit is actually so me. I mean, my own mother doesn't even know what I like. And I've known Emily for about three days and she's like my best friend. Best friend. Genelia! Oh my gosh, I can't believe that I haven't thought about her that much. But now that I am, I miss her so much. I wonder how she's doin
The next morning I realize that Alpha Hughes is still in bed. I take this opportunity to study his facial features more thoroughly. Like his simple beardwhich he never shaves . His eyebrows are scrunched even in his sleep, it’s as if he’s dreaming of killing someone . His skin is flawless. In all honesty, he’s handsome. But how can someone so perfect, be a murderer?I decide that even if I do absolutely nothing today, I should still put on some clothes. I don’t feel like showering this morning, so I’ll do it tonight. As I made my way to my closet I stop at the sound of Alpha Hughes’s voice.“What are you doing? "He questions. I turn to face him.“I just thought I sh-should get d-dressed, Alpha.”I inform. “Okay, but don’t look slutty again. We’re having breakfast with my Beta. ”I nod and go to my closet.Normally, Emily will be picking out my clothes, but due to the current situation she isn’t. I, of course, have no idea what to wear. Emily always mutters something when she chooses my
Emily makes sure that the driver doesn't tell Alpha Hughes about the visit. Goddess knows he'll be in as much trouble as me. The pack house is in view in about twenty minutes of driving. When we get out of the town car Emily reminds me not to tell Alpha Hughes. Then I remember my question for her. "Do you know anyone named Michael?"Ouch.Someone pushes me against a wall. I can tell by the scent it's Alpha Hughes. "Samantha, what do you know about Michael?" His deep voice presses against my neck. "U-Um, I don't know anything. He j-just told me to t-tell you he-he says hello." I choke out. Alpha Hughes stares me in the eyes. "What did you tell him?" I don't answer. "WHAT DID YOU TELL HIM?" He yells. "I didn't tell him anything, he read my thoughts.""What the hell were you thinking?"For a long time I try to string the right words together. But miserably fail and end up with a mess of words. "I-I, uh, um, well, u-uh-" Alpha Hughes stops my stuttering. "Go to my room. Now!" And I due as
We finally arrive at around six o'clock. Alpha Hughes has hidden weapons all over him incase the witches try something. We walk over to a small cabin. A teenage lady sits on her porch. "Jack Hughes? Surprise, Surprise!" I assume she's Elizabeth. "Hello, Clara, is Elizabeth here?" Alpha Hughes questions. "She's in the backyard playing. I'll show you to her." Clara answers and guides us.Elizabeth's a lot younger than I assumed. "What do you want Jack?" Elizabeth stands tall. "This is my mate, Samantha." All eyes are on me. Kind of like breakfast this morning. Elizabeth examines me. She notices the bruises. "How's the bruise on your side?" She asks. I furrow my eyebrows. "I can see through your shirt and by the look on Jack's face you didn't tell him." Elizabeth smirks. Alpha Hughes grabs my arms and pulls me into his chest."You lied to me?" Alpha Hughes sneers. I contemplate talking and in the end the best thing for me to do is nod, which I do. "Don't talk at all." He instructs. His w
Samantha's POV:I open my eyes. They're instantly blinded by the silk curtain being wide open, welcoming in the morning sun. This is my favorite part of the morning, when you first wake up. Who knows what adventure the day holds?"Keep your head up! Do you think that you'll know where to punch if you're not looking?" Alpha Hughes yells. Just like the day before, we're training. And he isn't going easy on me, either. My tank top kept falling off of my shoulder so, I am constantly fixing it. "Either take the shirt off or don't fix it." He states. The other men around me heard him and every one of them that don't have mates, stare. I decided it'd be best for me to keep it on.Ten minutes later and we stop. Someone comes up to Alpha Hughes and pulls him away from me. I start to feel awkward as I'm standing here."I heard Alpha Hughes killed three guys just for talking to her.""Yeah! One of them actually tried to rape her.""Should we go talk to her?""Nah, it's best if we stay away.""S
Samantha's POV:The woman and her kid We met at the restaurant ,made me think about kids. And thinking about kids made me think about names. I always adored the name Nick. For a boy of course, for a girl maybe Kayla. The dream was to have two kids, or no kids at all.I never wanted to go through the pain of birth. People die from giving birth. Not until recently, the idea of actually parenting a kid, sounded sweet. Genelia told me that birth is only temporary, it ends. I remember our conversation exactly."What do you mean you don't want kids?" She looks at me with a glint of astonishment in her eyes."It's not like that! I mean, sure kids would be great, but, having to birth a kid won't be." I explain to her. Genelia still looks like she's about to shake me until I want to birth a child. "Your parents did." Genelia argues. "And I love them for it, but I'm still open for adoption." Genelia shakes her head and me and continues to paint her nails . Genelia and I don't talk about it fo
Samantha Skylar WrightEver since I was a young girl I have dreamed of meeting my mate, falling in love, having a few kids, and dying old together. And still to this day those dreams are still intact. Many people call me naïve because of it. But what's wrong with wanting to be loved? What's wrong with wanting to be in love? There's nothing wrong with love, just heart break.Today is the first day of the Mating Ball. The Mating Ball is a three day ball where boys and girls come to meet their mates. The rules are that if you meet your mate on the first day you have to wait until the last day to meet them or see them at all outside of the ball. The second rule is that there is zero completion of the mating process during the ball or until the last day is over. There is one more rule, but I forgot it.My mother is very excited for me to be able to attend the ball this year. Since as soon as you turn seventeen you are eligible to meet your mate. My father on the other hand isn't as pleased
"What's his name?""I'm pretty sure it is Alpha Hughes."Gasps fill the limo. The Alpha Jack Hughes? He's the most feared Alpha. I truly feel bad for whoever his mate is. He's a monster. Stories about him circle around in my pack every month. This month he killed a family of six because they didn't obey him. What kind of man does that? "But isn't he like a hottie?""I don't know! If I get ten feet of him he might kill me!""That's preposterous.""No, if he can kill his own parents, he can kill me.""What if he's your mate?""HE ISN'T!"Fear filled in my veins as I make myself listen to their conversation. I know I shouldn't eavesdrop but this is too good to not get in on! How come none of us heard about his appearance at the Mating Ball? "Hey! Sam! Snap out of it." Genelia orders. "Sorry, I was thinking." I apologize. Genelia rolls her eyes and continues her story."The chance of us finding our mate is about eighty-seven percent." Genelia is a wiz with math. I never understood how sh

Alpha Hughes paces around his room for a while, I don't attempt to say anything. "You think I'm a monster?" His eyes were wild. I don't say anything, silence offers enough answers. "Perfect, perfect, fucking perfect!" He yells. Alpha Hughes heads over to the nearest wall and punches it. The punch is loud and hard, so loud I nearly jump. I scream instead. Alpha Hughes looks at me one last time, his eyes black. Then he bursts out of the room. After his outburst, I change. I also take it upon myself to do a little exploring. Alpha Hughes obviously isn't in the pack house because everything seems calm. I walk up to a door and I hear something. "Ah, Philip!" Oh my gosh, did I just hear...?"Faster! Faster!" I need to get out of here. I rush around until I no long know where I am."Nice legs." I hear a deep voice say. My body tenses and I feel vulnerable. "I've never seen you around here before." The boy whispers in my ear. "Do you n-need something?" I try to sound confident and miserably f
Samantha's POV:Why am I thinking about this so much? Sure, Alpha Hughes is my mate, but there's no love. Right? No! No of course not! He's a killer, a murderer. He has no mercy. After I clear up my mind, I head to my closet where all of my new clothes were perfectly displayed. What should I wear?I have all these new clothes. There are too many choices for me to choose just one. But somehow I did. When I picked out the outfit, the first thing I thought about was how proud Emily would be of me. But before I could get into the outfit, I have to take a shower.Even though I had one this morning, I've done a surprising amount of sweating today. This Florida weather isn't being nice to me. The dress I am wearing makes me feel so confident. Who knew that clothes could have such an affect on my attitude? But they do."Knock knock!" I hear the infamous Emily say before opening the door. A small gasp escapes my lips as she barges in."Chill, Samantha. I knew you weren't naked! Everyone's wait
