Samantha's POV:
I open my eyes. They're instantly blinded by the silk curtain being wide open, welcoming in the morning sun. This is my favorite part of the morning, when you first wake up. Who knows what adventure the day holds?
"Keep your head up! Do you think that you'll know where to punch if you're not looking?" Alpha Hughes yells. Just like the day before, we're training. And he isn't going easy on me, either. My tank top kept falling off of my shoulder so, I am constantly fixing it. "Either take the shirt off or don't fix it." He states. The other men around me heard him and every one of them that don't have mates, stare. I decided it'd be best for me to keep it on. Ten minutes later and we stop. Someone comes up to Alpha Hughes and pulls him away from me. I start to feel awkward as I'm standing here. "I heard Alpha Hughes killed three guys just for talking to her." "Yeah! One of them actually tried to rape her." "Should we go talk to her?" "Nah, it's best if we stay away." "She's a real beauty." "If she wasn't the Alpha's mate, I'd totally hit that." I stop listening there. Emily, soon enough, walks out sporting a blue sports bra and black leggings and on the bottom of the leggings there's gray. "Samantha! There you are!" She smiles. "What are you doing out here?" I ask. "Well, I'm the best female warrior in the pack and I'm the only person Alpha Hughes allows around you, without him." I nod. "Come on, let's go for a walk or something." Walking with her is peaceful. We don't talk much, and I really get to take in the beauty of this moon shadow Pack. The lakes and the trees are perfect for kids to play on. There are a few bugs flying around but only dragonflies and kissing bugs. "It's really peaceful out here, isn't it?" Emily breaks the beautiful silence. "Yeah, it's perfect." I awe. Emily giggles. "I didn't tell you this, but, this is where Jack comes when he's troubled. He told Philip that he makes him feel closer to the world. It makes him feel like there's hope for everyone, including him." Emily explains. "What does he need hope for?" I wonder. "Well, you can't see it now. So, I'm not going to ruin the fun of figuring it out." She smirks. I playfully hit her arm. We head back about ten minutes later. "There you are! Dammit, Emily! Haven't you learned your lesson by now?" Alpha Hughes fumes. Emily rolls her eyes. "We need to talk. Now!" He growls. I walk with him to his office. "My cousin, Benjamin has a place where she can stay." Dean brings up. Benjamin? If I have to be honest, I don't trust that name. The one thing I'm certain of at the moment is, I don't have a say in the matter. I bite my lip as I fall back into the chair I'm sitting in. "Where does he live?" Alpha walks up behind me. Heat is radiating off of him. It warms my normally cold exterior. Like a warm breeze on a cold fall night. My breathing is uneven. Alpha Hughes doesn't notice it and he stays close to me. My mind drifts elsewhere. ** dream**I stare up at him. "What are you doing?" I smile. "Well, love, I thought you might like it if I installed a library in the pack house." My smile enlarges. I love reading more than anything in the world. Other than my mate of course. "Oh my... It's beautiful." I awe. Books were everywhere. They weren't organized by the Dewey Decimal System, they were organized by time periods. That's my favorite way to organize. I grab my mate's arm. "It's perfect." I snuggle into his arm. He wraps his arm around my torso. "Not as perfect as you." **dream** "Dammit! Samantha! Stay awake." Alpha Hughes is now in front of me. There's a cold scowl placed effortlessly on his face. It's such a shame he's the man he is. If he wasn't such a monstrosity, there's a chance I could've loved him. I am not going to lie, his good looks were deceiving. They reel you in, make you think he isn't as bad as the rumors. It's apart of his aura. Benjamin lives in The Dominican Republic. I hear beautiful things about the destination, but I never got to see it for myself. And if the arrangement works out, I will. "But we can't move her there until the last minute." Philip states. "Why not?" Dean crosses his arm and relaxes his stance. "If we send her now, Michael has more time to find her," Alpha explains. It makes sense. Alpha doesn't talk much that afternoon. He thinks a lot. I wonder what goes on in an evil brain. I wonder what's got him so hypnotized. I wonder why I care. I don't care. Alpha Hughes is an issue himself. And in a few months, I won't have to deal with him. Oh, the joy! At around seven p.m. Alpha Hughes decides he wants to eat out for dinner. He also informs me that it will only be the both of us. No Dean, no Philip, and no Emily! I can feel my heartbeat go haywire. Quickly, I change from the sportswear and put on something I know Emily would pick. Frantically, I rush to the bathroom and apply a light brown eyeshadow and a nude lip. I decide not to put on too much foundation and blush so, I'm done in faster time than I normally would be. As always, the car ride is silent. Starting conversation scares me. What if he just doesn't care? What if he gets mad? What if, that seems to be the only thing I can think of. Sure, it helps me to be cautious, but it's also gotten me into trouble. Just stay calm, keep your blood sugar levels leveled. I try and soothe myself; it doesn't work. He stares at me the entire time. I stare back. I'm not sure if it's awkward or comfortable. My mind goes elsewhere. What if all these people know they're in the presence of a murderer? It makes me think a lot. He goes to public places, no one knows who he really is. The monster underneath the hypnotic green eyes. My eyes travel all over the room and stop at a little girl. She has strawberry blonde hair, fair skin, hazel eyes, freckled cheeks, and dimples just to add to her cuteness. About five minutes after me looking at her, she turns her head. "Hi!" She smiles at me. I smile and wave back. "Mommy! I wanna meet her! Let's go!" She tugs on her mother's arm. "What did you do?" Alpha Hughes whispers to me."I just looked at her. I-I didn't know w-what would happen!" I confess. My intentions were quite good. Most people you stare at, don't want to meet you.
"Hi! I'm Sophia . What's yours?" Sophia looks up curiously to Alpha Hughes. He tosses her a small smile. "I'm Jack, this is Samantha." He introduces us.I look at her mother who looks back at me apologetically. I mouth, 'it's okay.' "Those are cool names! My friend Chloe has a sister named Samantha. She isn't nice. She calls us little bit-" Her mother stops her from saying a swear word. "Okay, Sophia. We should leave them back to their date. I'm so sorry." Her mother laughs nervously.
Sophia refuses to leave us. "Mommy! No! I like them. Mr. Jack looks mad. Hey, mister! What's wrong?" She crosses her arms. I put my head in my hands. "It's just my face." Alpha Hughes answers with a low growl. "You must have a sad life. Ms. Samantha, does he have a sad life?" She asks me."Uh, no, I hope not." I try to sound sincere. Alpha Hughes looks at me impatiently. "My daddy says, mean men used to be nice men. Were you a nice man?"
Just like it was on cue our waitress comes over with our food. Sophia and her mother leave and I can tell Sophia's telling her father about us. Her words are: The glaring man and the smiling girl. "You shouldn't have looked over at her." Alpha Hughes shakes his head at me. "I-I'm sorry, I just-sorry." I look down at my steak. Maybe he is not bad as I assume him to be.Samantha's POV:The woman and her kid We met at the restaurant ,made me think about kids. And thinking about kids made me think about names. I always adored the name Nick. For a boy of course, for a girl maybe Kayla. The dream was to have two kids, or no kids at all.I never wanted to go through the pain of birth. People die from giving birth. Not until recently, the idea of actually parenting a kid, sounded sweet. Genelia told me that birth is only temporary, it ends. I remember our conversation exactly."What do you mean you don't want kids?" She looks at me with a glint of astonishment in her eyes."It's not like that! I mean, sure kids would be great, but, having to birth a kid won't be." I explain to her. Genelia still looks like she's about to shake me until I want to birth a child. "Your parents did." Genelia argues. "And I love them for it, but I'm still open for adoption." Genelia shakes her head and me and continues to paint her nails . Genelia and I don't talk about it fo
Samantha Skylar WrightEver since I was a young girl I have dreamed of meeting my mate, falling in love, having a few kids, and dying old together. And still to this day those dreams are still intact. Many people call me naïve because of it. But what's wrong with wanting to be loved? What's wrong with wanting to be in love? There's nothing wrong with love, just heart break.Today is the first day of the Mating Ball. The Mating Ball is a three day ball where boys and girls come to meet their mates. The rules are that if you meet your mate on the first day you have to wait until the last day to meet them or see them at all outside of the ball. The second rule is that there is zero completion of the mating process during the ball or until the last day is over. There is one more rule, but I forgot it.My mother is very excited for me to be able to attend the ball this year. Since as soon as you turn seventeen you are eligible to meet your mate. My father on the other hand isn't as pleased
"What's his name?""I'm pretty sure it is Alpha Hughes."Gasps fill the limo. The Alpha Jack Hughes? He's the most feared Alpha. I truly feel bad for whoever his mate is. He's a monster. Stories about him circle around in my pack every month. This month he killed a family of six because they didn't obey him. What kind of man does that? "But isn't he like a hottie?""I don't know! If I get ten feet of him he might kill me!""That's preposterous.""No, if he can kill his own parents, he can kill me.""What if he's your mate?""HE ISN'T!"Fear filled in my veins as I make myself listen to their conversation. I know I shouldn't eavesdrop but this is too good to not get in on! How come none of us heard about his appearance at the Mating Ball? "Hey! Sam! Snap out of it." Genelia orders. "Sorry, I was thinking." I apologize. Genelia rolls her eyes and continues her story."The chance of us finding our mate is about eighty-seven percent." Genelia is a wiz with math. I never understood how sh
"Sam?"I look behind me and there stood my best friend. "Ginny." I cry. "What happened?" She wonders. "He's my mate." I answer. "Who is?" She asks. "Alpha Hughes." She stares at me. Shock in her eyes. "Alpha Jack Hughes?" I nod. "Oh sweetie." She comforts me. "GET OFF HER!"Genelia backs away from me and I could feel that it is Alpha Hughes. "Declare yourself!" He orders. "G-Genelia F-Fosters!" Genelia shrieks. "Leave now." And then I am left alone with the monstrosity that is my mate. "I am the only person allowed to touch you. Understand!" I weakly nod. "Get up." He demands. I get up and look at him. He starts to walk back into the Central Ball and I follow.Alpha Hughes and I are dancing. Many people were whispering around us about the 'Beauty and the Beast' . "Can I ask you a question Alpha?" I ask. He hesitates with his answer but says yes. "After the third day, are we going to mate?" I mutter. "No, we will wait a few months but that's all you get." I nod and we continue to sway
Genelia came over for a sleepover and together we watched movies. The night is so much fun. I rather sit around in pajamas all day than go to the ball and be with my mate. As bad as that sounds, nothing beats Genelia. We finish watching The DUFF and move on to the next movie. "Cher is my spirit animal!" I joke. Ginny shakes her head. "I prefer Dionne." Genelia admits. I drop my jaw. "Well, Dionne is really pretty. But! Cher is really pretty too." I argue with no point.Genelia sleeps over but leaves before I wake up so that her parents don't get mad. This is my last day ever in my room. I packed up all my stuff a week before the ball. All I have left to do is get ready. For the last day we get our on private limos. But four hours fore that, we get our bags taken away and delivered to our mate's pack. Tradition is that the girl leaves with the boy. And I'm not happy because a certain someone left out key information."I need to talk to you." Genelia says during the last scene of The La
Samantha's POV:I'm not sure if Alpha Hughes notices my dilemma at first. But the thing I suck at most: hiding emotions. "Are you going to tell me or do I have to guess?" Alpha Hughes exclaims. My heads snaps to his direction and I give out a confusing sound."Samantha." Alpha Hughes warned. "Well, uh, um, okay I'll just blurt it out. Ready? Okay? Uh, well-" Alpha Hughes stops my rambling. "Say it." He sneers. "N-Nothing." I mutter. The thought wanders in my head for the rest of the night. But the night is intense. I somehow get really drunk. It's not like I meant to grab the drinks, I just did. I'm currently rubbing up against some guy. Alpha Hughes isn't here so he can't stop me."Here have another drink." The boy hands me a cup with a devilish grin. I cautiously grab the cup and take a sip out of. I start to feel dizzy and lose consciousness.I wake up but don't open my eyes. Why? I hear punching, kicking, swearing. And all of those things are being done by my mate."Do not ever to
Samantha's POV:I wake up the next morning to the movement of someone next to me. As I open my eyes all the memories from the past three days come back to me. And those were rendering me sad. "Good, you're awake. I have my brother's mate, Emily, coming over to take you shopping. I took a look at your clothes last night and let's just say, you dress like a fourteen year old girl." He insults me again. My mouth is agape. My leg is now fine. After that discussion with Alpha Hughes, he left. He says he has some kind of meeting to go to. I was wondering why I couldn't go with him. So, I get into a shower and did what I always do, dream. He stares at me with his perfect eyes. A smiles lifts onto his face and he can't control it. I can't either. I can feel my heart bursting with love. And I'm 100% sure he can too. Because he's that smart. He's that perfect. He doesn't talk. Talking would ruin the moment-"Samantha! Are you in here!" I hear a voice yell from the bedroom.I don't know who it is
Samantha's POV:Why am I thinking about this so much? Sure, Alpha Hughes is my mate, but there's no love. Right? No! No of course not! He's a killer, a murderer. He has no mercy. After I clear up my mind, I head to my closet where all of my new clothes were perfectly displayed. What should I wear?I have all these new clothes. There are too many choices for me to choose just one. But somehow I did. When I picked out the outfit, the first thing I thought about was how proud Emily would be of me. But before I could get into the outfit, I have to take a shower.Even though I had one this morning, I've done a surprising amount of sweating today. This Florida weather isn't being nice to me. The dress I am wearing makes me feel so confident. Who knew that clothes could have such an affect on my attitude? But they do."Knock knock!" I hear the infamous Emily say before opening the door. A small gasp escapes my lips as she barges in."Chill, Samantha. I knew you weren't naked! Everyone's wait

We finally arrive at around six o'clock. Alpha Hughes has hidden weapons all over him incase the witches try something. We walk over to a small cabin. A teenage lady sits on her porch. "Jack Hughes? Surprise, Surprise!" I assume she's Elizabeth. "Hello, Clara, is Elizabeth here?" Alpha Hughes questions. "She's in the backyard playing. I'll show you to her." Clara answers and guides us.Elizabeth's a lot younger than I assumed. "What do you want Jack?" Elizabeth stands tall. "This is my mate, Samantha." All eyes are on me. Kind of like breakfast this morning. Elizabeth examines me. She notices the bruises. "How's the bruise on your side?" She asks. I furrow my eyebrows. "I can see through your shirt and by the look on Jack's face you didn't tell him." Elizabeth smirks. Alpha Hughes grabs my arms and pulls me into his chest."You lied to me?" Alpha Hughes sneers. I contemplate talking and in the end the best thing for me to do is nod, which I do. "Don't talk at all." He instructs. His w
Emily makes sure that the driver doesn't tell Alpha Hughes about the visit. Goddess knows he'll be in as much trouble as me. The pack house is in view in about twenty minutes of driving. When we get out of the town car Emily reminds me not to tell Alpha Hughes. Then I remember my question for her. "Do you know anyone named Michael?"Ouch.Someone pushes me against a wall. I can tell by the scent it's Alpha Hughes. "Samantha, what do you know about Michael?" His deep voice presses against my neck. "U-Um, I don't know anything. He j-just told me to t-tell you he-he says hello." I choke out. Alpha Hughes stares me in the eyes. "What did you tell him?" I don't answer. "WHAT DID YOU TELL HIM?" He yells. "I didn't tell him anything, he read my thoughts.""What the hell were you thinking?"For a long time I try to string the right words together. But miserably fail and end up with a mess of words. "I-I, uh, um, well, u-uh-" Alpha Hughes stops my stuttering. "Go to my room. Now!" And I due as
The next morning I realize that Alpha Hughes is still in bed. I take this opportunity to study his facial features more thoroughly. Like his simple beardwhich he never shaves . His eyebrows are scrunched even in his sleep, it’s as if he’s dreaming of killing someone . His skin is flawless. In all honesty, he’s handsome. But how can someone so perfect, be a murderer?I decide that even if I do absolutely nothing today, I should still put on some clothes. I don’t feel like showering this morning, so I’ll do it tonight. As I made my way to my closet I stop at the sound of Alpha Hughes’s voice.“What are you doing? "He questions. I turn to face him.“I just thought I sh-should get d-dressed, Alpha.”I inform. “Okay, but don’t look slutty again. We’re having breakfast with my Beta. ”I nod and go to my closet.Normally, Emily will be picking out my clothes, but due to the current situation she isn’t. I, of course, have no idea what to wear. Emily always mutters something when she chooses my
Samantha's POV:The day goes by slowly, without a single checkup from Emily. I can't believe she didn't come to see me. It's not like she follows Alpha Hughes' rules anyway. Then around six pm, Alpha Hughes comes by again with Emily. I can feel the smile lift on my face. "I'm introducing you to the pack today. Emily if you pull anything. I swear you're gone." He has a tight hold on her wrists. I can see a bruise start to form. We're in my closet and she's going through all the possible outfits. "You don't want to look trashy, but you also don't want to look like you're trying too hard." She whispers to herself. Then she gasps. Whatever it is I'm wearing tonight, Emily finds it.The outfit is actually so me. I mean, my own mother doesn't even know what I like. And I've known Emily for about three days and she's like my best friend. Best friend. Genelia! Oh my gosh, I can't believe that I haven't thought about her that much. But now that I am, I miss her so much. I wonder how she's doin
The dungeons are cold, and I can feel the silence down through my bones. A drop of water keeps falling from a nearby pipe. It seems to be the only water source down here. "What's a pretty girl like you doing down here?" I hear a voice. The voice sounded like a snake, mysterious and cold. "W-Who are you?" I get up. "Oh no, darling, that won't matter, won't matter at all." A female voice says this time. "St-Stay away from me!" Then hands grab at my ankles and pull me down.Whispering surrounds me and I feel as if I'm going crazy."Who's there?" I try to crawl, but hands keep me down. "Sh, child! They'll hear you!" Snake shushes. Who's he? What's going on? "L-Leave me alone!" I grab at where the voices come from. I end up touching a beard. A small scream falls flat from my mouth. "I thought we told you to hush child." A cold harsh hand hits my face.More whispering and I actually feel crazy. "S-Stop talking!" I join in on the whispering involuntarily. I can see their eyes, wide and tired
Alpha Hughes paces around his room for a while, I don't attempt to say anything. "You think I'm a monster?" His eyes were wild. I don't say anything, silence offers enough answers. "Perfect, perfect, fucking perfect!" He yells. Alpha Hughes heads over to the nearest wall and punches it. The punch is loud and hard, so loud I nearly jump. I scream instead. Alpha Hughes looks at me one last time, his eyes black. Then he bursts out of the room. After his outburst, I change. I also take it upon myself to do a little exploring. Alpha Hughes obviously isn't in the pack house because everything seems calm. I walk up to a door and I hear something. "Ah, Philip!" Oh my gosh, did I just hear...?"Faster! Faster!" I need to get out of here. I rush around until I no long know where I am."Nice legs." I hear a deep voice say. My body tenses and I feel vulnerable. "I've never seen you around here before." The boy whispers in my ear. "Do you n-need something?" I try to sound confident and miserably f
